Description of Work: They handled a full kitchen remodel (updating from 1950s to today), which included updating the electrical to have ground fault interruption (which I was quite horrified to discover was not there already in half of the room though the plugs all looked GFI). The kitchen remodel included new cabinets, granite counters, tile backsplash, and high quality vinyl flooring. In addition to the kitchen, they also handled scraping and refinishing hardwoods in 3 main rooms (and hallways/a foyer), painted 4 main rooms and a stairway and entryway. They replaced aging carpet with hardwoods in a partially finished second floor. They removed the same carpeting from the stairway area, repaired and painted the stairs. Additionally, they replaced an exterior door that had been hung backwards (hinges outside - clearly I purchased a fixer upper). Much of the work they did while I was not nearby (part of it while I was in a remote location for work with only sporadic email access). They are a very professional and very talented group of contractors.

+ 0 moreWitten Brothers Contracting is a local company owned by two brothers, Caleb and Trey. Caleb was referred to me by another professional tradesman. I already had quotes for a steel ramp and aluminum ramp and was looking for something a little less "institutional" looking that was still going to be long-lasting. When I first spoke with Caleb he listened to my needs and came over within the week to look at the house. He measured, took pics and gave me some options. When we were finally ready to move forward, he came over again to nail down the final design and sign the contract. Caleb took care of all the permit issues with the city. The project was delayed a couple of days because of bad weather which had pushed them behind on other days. When Trey and his crew arrived to dig the post holes it was sunny. By late morning it was majorly downpouring. Trey rigged up some tarps so they could keep digging as the inspector was already scheduled to come out the next day. The actual building of the ramp was pretty quick. It took about a day and a half (not counting the day for pouring concrete). The ramp is nearly 5 feet wide and has a very gentle 1:12 slope. They used concrete for the last 10" or so due to the slope of the driveway. The sides are done with pickets and Caleb gave the handrails a nice beveled edge. The ramp goes from the driveway to the front porch. A threshold ramp was also built. The design of the ramp is perfect. It preserved the already existing landscaping and light posts. One of the guys even transplanted two bird's nests from a couple limbs that had to be cut back. The ramp extends less than 1' into the driveway so I did really lost any space. They are extremely clean and organized. They took every scrap, nail and food/drink container with them. They swept the ramp, sidewalk and driveway. I could not have been any happier and look forward to using them again for some additional accessibility improvements in the house!
Description of Work: Witten Brothers designed and built a handicapped ramp at my home. It meets all ADA guidelines and looks fantastic. Caleb and Trey had gave me several great options on design and placement to minimize the loss of driveway space.
