Affordable Door

We received estimates from four different garage door companies regarding the replacement of our garage door. All were vendors with excellent ratings from Angie's List. We went with Affordable Door because they were one of the cheapest, most highly rated, and offered to replace the existing hardware. Upon getting all estimates, we called Affordable Door and they sent someone to collect our deposit. While the staff member who showed up was courteous, he had no idea how much money to collect (quoting me the wrong total price initially) and did not have a way to give me a receipt to show that he received payment. We called the main office together after looking at my estimate to verify the amount he should collect. I suggested that he sign the initial estimate so that I could have proof we paid him the half down deposit. I had to scan the estimate and give him a copy. That should have been our first red flag. He left and told me that the door would come in about 4 weeks and that we would get a call once it was in and ready to install. At just over a month, we still had not received a call so we called to follow up. After much confusion and digging into things on their end, Affordable Door confirmed that they placed the order for our door but did not realize that the company required a full deposit so no door was ever received. If we had not called, we would have never received our door and they would have not known the difference. So they had cashed the check, but did not have our door in their possession. We were told it would be another 3-4 weeks before the door could be installed once the issue was fixed. They offered us $100 off the total price and offered to come out and brace our door if needed. Once the door finally came in, we had the installer come out. He did a great job and was super professional. But upon inspection, I noticed that the door did not match the other garage door and was missing an exterior lock that had been on our original estimate. The installer was not aware of the lock and when I showed him the original estimate, he confirmed that they had messed up again with the order. I also noticed that the door was missing the black rubber seal at the bottom, and he confirmed that it was missing as well. So they will come back again to install the lock and attach the rubber to the bottom of the door. There was once again confusion about the price because he had no idea that we were promised $100 off the original quote. I have requested additional money off for the lock screw up, but it does not look like that will be provided. I refused to provide the balance until the work is completed and no word when that will happen. Affordable Door has amazing reviews on Angie's List, but we have had a horrible experience. Not sure where things have fallen apart on the office/administrative side, but if you have the chance, use another company. Getting a garage door replaced should not take over 2 months and cause such a headache.

It was fine. They cleaned up after they finished. They did the job quickly.

Excellent interaction with office and scheduling. Installer was on time and worked rapidly. New garage opener was installed in just over an hour. Included internal and external switches with code and two remotes. Shannon spent extra time trying to help me get the opener coded to my car - we were unsuccessful. Was an overall excellent experience. There were two minor issues. First, he probably could have done a better job sweeping up the wiring clippings after he as finished. Second he should have explained the timer on the sensing remote. When the floor sensor is tripped and the garage light pops on - there's a fairly easy adjustment as to how long it stays on - the default setting was very long. He came back and adjusted it back down to 90 seconds. I would definitely use them again

The service was great. There were no additional charges. They were lovely. It was my first time using them. They were just particularly nice and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend them. They were good on the price.

My priority was getting the existing door back into operation. However, the main interest of the provider was in replacing the door (which was quite old). While I appreciated them educating me about the dangers of keeping the existing door, and explaining to me my options for replacing it. I would have preferred if that conversation had been secondary to making the existing door operable.

When the appointment actually happened, it went well. The opener is nice and quiet and installed well as far as I can tell. The reason I gave them a B and not an A is because they did not show up for the inital appointment. When I called to ask where they were, they said that their technician had called in sick and they had tried to call me to let me know that. I did not have a call on my home or cell phone from them and had to reschedule for the following week.

The technician arrived on time; installation of the opener and tuneup of the door went smoothly; and the technician explained what he was doing and answered all my questions. Included with the 8550 were a keypad, two remotes and an Internet Gateway. The quality of the Liftmaster 8550 is excellent, and I have had no problems with it, the keypad or the remotes in the 15 months since installation. I have not used the Internet Gateway which allows you to monitor and control the opener from an internet-enabled computer or smartphone. I had occasion to contact Affordable Door recently when I thought there was a problem with the garage door. The technician arrived within four hours of my call to the company, inspected the door and determined there was no problem with either the garage door or the opener; the problem was caused by a recent paint job on the exterior of the door. The technician explained how to correct the problem and did not charge me for a service call!! Both times I have used Affordable Door, they contacted me on the day of the service to confirm the arrival time and name of the technician. Both technicians were very pleasant to deal with, conducted themselves in a professional manner, and were very knowledgeable about the operation of the Liftmaster.

The technician arrived later than the appointment time. I called the office to ensure he was coming (you know how it is sometimes when at the end of a very long waiting period they say, sorry, he got busy, have to reschedule), and they assured me he was. And in fact he called me enroute to say he was still on the way. I felt bad when he arrived because it turns out they sent him out from Springfield to our place in Gainesville via I-66 on a late Friday afternoon !! Hmm, might try to arrange the schedule so he's heading back towards town in the afternoon. But once there, he did a great job, took a couple of hours to adjust the door spring tension, assemble the unit and get it all set up. Very nice guy, very good explanation of how it worked, etc. Gave us his card and said to call if we had any problems whatsoever. Definitely recommend these folks.

See above Bad customer service. I work so to have to have two appointments broken with out any notice was disappointing. Does anyone have time like that to waste anymore.... no we don't.

He came and did the inspection and he determined we needed a new garage door opener. So, I was able to purchase the other Big Deal and save on that service. He was able to complete everything in that one call.

They did a fine job. They were on time, they were friendly and the work was very efficient. I would recommend them.

Service provider arrived within the specified time limits, and proceeded to discuss the project. He did tell me what was involved, the fact that better rollers would help lengthen the life of the garage door and so forth and told me the prices for the replacements, the safety cables and the rollers. I told him I had two coupons - one for a senior discount - and the other for an Angie's discount. He said he would accept one or the other. The Angie's listing on their page did not indicate "one or the other". He (Robert) added up the bill and gave me the larger discount, but not both. If that is the company policy, then it should be clearly stated in the Affordable Door description so a customer is informed prior to acceptance and receipt of service. Also, when the job was completed, there was no review of safety features and some hardware which affixes the hinges (10 of them) to the door was not tightened. Also, one angle bracket was bent I discovered (on the broken spring side), and no idea whether this should have been replaced or straightened. Summing up, I think the price was a bit high, the final checks and insuring all the nuts and bolts were tightened and reviewing all that had been done was incomplete at best. I think Robert could have spent another 5 minutes in a final review of the work accomplished as my wife and I are both senior citizens (I am a veteran) and heavily depend on the garage doors working properly. I also think for the price of the job and for good faith as a first time customer, that the Angie discount ($15) should have been included. If future garage door work is required, I would probably select another vendor. I would have rated this vendor a solid B-, but not quite a C.

Garage worked after the visit, but hung crooked. Provider did come back and re -hang at no cost, but acted like it was a silly request. Our wheels popped off a month or so later, but I don't know if that was related to the service.

It went smooth. The technician was awesome and very courteous.

I needed to fix my current garage door and needed to add a powered door opener. Alex was on time to show up and explain me in detail what involved as well as provide me a quote for new door plus the door opener. I compared the price with other garage door companies and found it reasonable. He ordered the parts after I decided to go with Affordable door and came day after as scheduled time. He is very punctual and always called ahead before showing up. Alex is very professional to do his work and clean up afterward. He really did a good job with replacing the old garage door. - Imran

The reason for my D overall rating is that, the same day as the motor was replaced, we also decided to purchase a whole new door at a cost of $1800. We paid a $900 deposit on APRIL 3RD, I gave Rob the details of the new door design over the phone and we were told the door would be installed in about two weeks! It is now JUNE 13TH and I still don't have my new door. About two weeks after I paid the deposit and hadn't heard anything from the company, I emailed them. Twice. No response. So then I called them and were told our order was no-where in their system. Turns out Rob hadn't submitted it - but yet my credit card had been charged for the deposit. OK...So they apologized, Rob called me personally, and we got things back on track. He stopped by a few days later to get a signed contract and I was told someone from the office would call me to schedule an installation date. A few days before the end of May I got a call saying that they apologized for having scheduled the install on Memorial Day - they hadn't realized it was a holiday - and that they could do it on the Wednesday after Memorial Day instead. I said fine - I'd never been informed that a Memorial Day installation was planned anyway, and Wednesday worked for me. Then, on the Tuesday after Memorial Day I got a call from their office saying that the door still wasn't in from the manufacturer and that they would call me as soon as it was delivered to them. And since then, I've heard nothing in almost 2 weeks. I will probably call and cancel the order at this point. I am REALLY disappointed. I told the office staff that I was going to write a review on Angie's List at some point and told them I'd give them time to redeem themselves, but it never happened.

My garage door broke at 8:00 in the evening. I called this vendor and a technician was sent out immediately that evening to replace the broken spring. The technician was very professional and was able to take care of the job within an hours time. I would highly recommend this company.

Impressed with Liftmaster 8550; this model is considerably quieter than the Liftmaster we replaced. Great price. Installation was promptly scheduled at our convenience. Service representative (Shannon) was very knowledgeable, courteous, professional & friendly. He clearly articulated what he was going to do (remove existing opener, replace & calibrate new opener, inspect & service existing garage door & mechanics, e.g. rollers). He also volunteered to assist in programming our vehicles' integrated garage door openers.

Visit went well, they did a good job, had a lot of helpful advice, no complaints.

It took several rescheduled appointments on their end to finally have them come out but was very happy with final overall service and performance of workmanship.

The estimator was very late (45 minutes past the window of time scheduled) and after the work was completed, I called the office and the manager was supposed to call me back, but he never did. The person answering the phone is very polite and competent, but the manager failed to call me. Choice of payment options were not available at completion of work. We were forced to write a check.

Very satisfied with the garage door; however, it took several weeks for them to finish the job because the installer measured the trim across the top of the door incorrectly - too short - and had to order new trim. We scheduled 2-3 different times for the installer to return to replace the trim and he did not show up or leave message about why. Left several phone messages which were not returned. When he finally did show up to complete the project, he explained that there was a delay in delivery of the trim material.

Our garage door would not open, and they came the same day (within an hour) of me calling. They assessed the problem and completed the job quickly. Service was friendly and professional.
