Description of Work: Remodeled bathroom. Took much longer than expected to complete the job. The workers seemed to be unorganized and didn't know what each other was doing.

Description of Work: I used the kitchen & bathroom remodelling service of Macco. They remodelled a bathroom shower that was leaking. They had to take it apart and basically re-install it. They changed a water valve that was defective and a thermostat for a towel dryer that was not working properly.

+ 6 moreMACCO worked with me throughout the repair process. They were truly interested in working with me as a partner to repair my home and insure that the problem would not reoccur. For example, they modified the slope of the rubber roof to provide additional drainage, enlarged the drainage hole, and cut channels in the 2x4s that supported the deck to minimize future water accumulation. Because a rubber membrane can be damaged by a variety of chemicals (e.g., oil-based stains), MACCO had to research which stains, and associated wood preparation chemicals, could be used to stain the deck. MACCO consulted with several paint manufacturers to ensure that any chemicals or stains that dripped on the rubber would not harm the new membrane. I would definitely use MAACO again and recommend the company to my neighbors. Note: the price of cedar siding, which MACCO passed on to me at its cost, accounted for approximately $2500 of the total $8000 cost.
Description of Work: Heavy rains, following a hurricane, caused a rubber roof over my dining room to separate and allow water to damage the dining room ceiling and stain the walls. The rubber roof had a wooden deck installed on top of it. The wooden deck was only six months old and had not yet been stained. MACCO removed and replaced the wooden deck. Removed and replaced the rubber roof. Removed and replaced the vertical siding that covered the section of the rubber roof that was installed beneath the siding. Repaired the dining room ceiling drywall and repainted the dining room ceiling and walls. Replaced insulation in the dining room ceiling. Stained the wooden deck as well as another deck.

+ 1 moreOverall the job went pretty well. The men were very nice and did a good job on things that they could do well. Once or twice they did not show up and didn't call to tell me they weren't coming. They also took a month more than they estimated to do the job. We kind of anticipated this so it did not bother us. We also learned to write down every detail of the job you would like to have done before you sign the contract. In our case, we thought a couple of things would be done because they were discussed at the very beginning before Mike did an estimate but then he forgot that they were mentioned and we had to pay extra for them. The one other thing that we were disappointed in was we were told that the stairs would be made to look like new but they were only painted and the flaws were not corrected. We are going to replace them someday so this didn't bother us too much but it might bother someone else.
Description of Work: Macco completely redid our basement starting from scratch. The only thing that was keep from the old basement was the tub. They built new walls, installed insulation, put in closets, added a new feature of french doors into the bedroom that was built, put in a new bathroom and tiled all of the floor and the walls around the tub. Subcontractors put in all new electricity and did the painting. The biggest problem was that they really didn't know how to tile well nor grout as well as a professional tiler would, therefore I would not reuse them for any job requiring tiling. Mike McCarthey and all his men were very nice and friendly and willing to fix any mistakes they made. They did an excellent job on the new walls and mudding and all the other jobs needed to be done except tiling.
