Commonwealth Renovations

They were good. We had a good experience with them. He finished the job in an hour. He was just incredibly friendly and professional and he did such a good job. I had to provide the materials. He also took care of little annoyances that we've had for many years. We would definitely consider using them again. We are looking at doing possible big projects. The manager came out a day or two later to give us an estimate on some other work. The price that he quoted us was much lower than anything else we've ever heard.

They never completed the work. They accepted the bid deal coupon but there were additional charges than what coupon covered. They didn’t return phone calls and things like that to get things finished up. My experience was not good so I might give a biased opinion, other people might find him perfectly fine. They were recommended to me by friends who used them a number of times and they were satisfied which surprised me because from the beginning I did not like what they did. I had to have a power wash and they did a lousy job and you never know it was cleaned and he had to come back and do a second time and it was not done very well. They had to do some other work in the house which was not up to my standard. Initially they were responsive. They arrived when they said they were going to be there.

I had some initial communication problems with two of the painters, as to the priority of the areas to be painted, but once that was ironed out, they did a great job. We are very pleased with the work and very impressed with the follow-up to make sure that we were happy.

Hinges were changed on all interior doors and one vanity mirror was removed. The work turned out fine except on one of the doors there was a chunk of wood taken out of the door frame. I felt like Commonwealth should have repaired that issue, but instead pointed it out to the other contractor that was doing the majority of the renovation work and just said "sorry about that." This was not brought to my attention until a few days after the work was performed.

The work started on time. I had to go to the hardware store to get glazing putty for the window, and then had to go back for another pane. The first one I bought was too small. The new storm door and window look great.

My husband and I were satisfied with the job. We do wish he had hammered a few nails back in. Again we were not home when he arrived and started.

Excellent service from start to finish.

It went well. I was especially pleased that JD was willing to extend my coupon's expiration date by a week. This was a huge help! The individual doing the job arrived a few minutes early and stayed 20 minutes or so beyond the two hours. Never a bad thing! The only objection I had was that he smelled strongly of cigarette smoke to which I am highly allergic. So I didn't feel very well for a few hours but my bathroom looks great!

I used the Angies List Deal. He did a great job and even repaired the water damage. We couldn't be happier.

They started by being 15 minutes late. They only re-grouted the master shower floor, did nothing with the tile grout on the walls. They left a 1 inch gap uncaulked between the wall and the floor, when they caulked the guest bathroom shower/tub. We requested an estimate to completely re-tile the master shower, and have still received no contact (after 30 days). They left a mess in every location that work was done. It took me 30 minutes to get the grout off of the bathroom sink.

Serviceman arrived on time without any caulk saying I needed to provide it. I explicitly explained to the gentleman who called to schedule the service that I had hired them because I was unsure what to use and was not capable of 'neat caulking'. The serviceman was responsive and when to a nearby hardware store and purchased the correct caulking. He returned and caulked the show and around the tub. He completely missed the back edge of the tub, which needed it worst. In the shower the caulking was less than neat. KInd of a gloppy thick application.

I had purchased the offer for 2 hours of handyman services with the intent of having recessed lighting fixtures installed in my family room. He showed up at the appointed time, but told me that the work requested was beyond the scope of what the offer was for. I would need to have the owner of the business, an electrician, come by to give me an estimate for that job and I could not use the "coupon" for it. I live in a villa community where all outside maintenance is provided, and I didn't have much else for a "handyman" to do. The bathtub had been draining very slowly lately, so I had him clean the drain of hair and soap scum which had built up over time. That solved the problem nicely, but took only about 15 minutes. I also had him clean out the P-trap from the kitchen sink to help reduce a foul smell we had noticed lately. He found no blockage, which was reassuring. But that took him no more than 30 minutes. There was nothing else I needed him to do, so he left after saying he would have the owner call me to set a time to come by for an estimate to do the electrical work. It's been 3 weeks now and I still haven't heard from anyone.

Personnel arrived on time and completed the work in a timely and professional manner.

My interaction with Commonwealth Renovations did not proceed pass the original estimate which was the result of an attic inspection. Up to that point I was satisfied with the proposed work, however, once the estimate was received the communication began breaking down. The estimate was not detailed and some of the work was not included. Commonwealth admitted the oversight, apologized and agreed to send a corrected estimate which I never received. I took this as an indication I should look elsewhere to have the work done. I did not contact Commonwealth to question the revised estimate nor did I hear anything else from them.

Everything went splendid. I have no complaints other than the time it took to coordinate with the actual painter. All of that was made up for by the beautiful work they did. They were also very punctual, here 10 minutes prior to our appointment ready to work. Very good experience.

The company took two weeks to respond to me after I had paid for the Big Deal service. On the other hand, when they did respond (after I called to complain that I hadn't been called) they scheduled me within a couple of days, for a Saturday morning, which was fine. About 2/3 of the work necessary was completed within the two-hour prepaid visit, which was fine. The handyman used a 5-in-one tool to remove grout, though, even though I had my own grout saw sitting right there. About a hour into it he switched to my grout removal tool, having damaged his 5-in-one. I would have thought that he would have brought a more appropriate tool, or used one available to him, however he was courteous and a hard worker.

Not Pleased, I requested that the contractor get the sprayer on my kitchen faucet working. He tried to diagnose the problem but was stumped on how to fix it. He had to finish up by replacing a nozzle in my master bedroom. it worked for a while but has since gone back to function badly as before his replacement.

Took a while and a few phone calls to get estimate for services, but once we connected, service was performed promptly and professionally.

Had a small leak during terrible rain storm. Contacted JB Sipes and he sent an emergency cover up crew who stopped the leak from getting worse. The leak was detected in the dark of night and the wind was howling. The crew came and buttoned the job down in a couple of hours. The whole proceedure was fast and done well.

The two workers (not the owner) arrived a little bit late but they called to let me know. They removed the existing vinyl flooring in a medium sized bathroom. They laid waterproof sub flooring and laid 12" ceramic tile for the floor. The owner had me choose the tile I wanted (within a cost range) and the grout color I wanted. The materials were purchased by the company. The workers spent about 4 hours of labor. At first glance the tiling looked good. I was left with the easy chores of removing the grout haze and sealing the grout the next day. As I started to wipe down the tiles I realized that the grout was not right--in fact, it wasn't even grout, but more like a caulk. I also noticed that the tiles that reached under the overhang of the sink vanity were cut too short. The workers a dumped a puddle of the caulk to cover their error. They also used caulk to affix the quarter-round trim along the tub. If they had asked me, I would have not put the quarter-round on the tub. It looks rather strange. I am a bit afraid to pull off the quarter-round at the point because I think the grout/caulk on the tiles will be an eyesore. I called the owner and sent him pictures of the issues, and he had the same workers come back and fix all the issues (except the quarter-round, which I didn't mention). They did repair all the issues well enough. I'm not convinced that they every measured to make a plumb line. If you look too long you will start to notice that the tile is not plumb with the walls (or are the walls uneven?). I have done my own tile work in the past and I probably should have not gone for this Big Deal. I'm disappointed in the workmanship.

The work was being done at the same time as other work by different contractors. Try as I might to schedule so that there were no conflicts, there were times when this workman could not work because another contractor was in his way so the job took longer than expected. The work was performed as quoted and the workmanship is good.

The entire process went well. Quick on returned calls, timely and accurate estimate and work done when and how we agreed! I would recommend to any family or friend. They were even accommodating when I made a few changes along the way!

I was pleased with the response time, the paint job, and the painters. I especially appreciated Tommy's sound advice concerning the job...and I enjoyed that he was personable rather than just being a guy here to get a paint job done. I highly recommend Tommy and his services. He has years of experience, he is expertly skilled, and honest. I come from a family of contractors (although they are all out of state now) and understand the challenges contractors face....and I can readily acknowledge good contractors from the so-so. Call Tommy - I sincerely believe you will be happy with his services. We plan to have him back to complete a few more painting projects. Dewey Elder Powhatan

I bought the deal from Angie's List because we had some caulked areas in our shower that had become discolored and rough and were impossible to clean. When the handyman showed up, it turned out that the job would take MUCH less time than I had prepaid for. He indicated that he could do any kind of handyman job that we needed. We did not need much done, but he removed a damaged moulding and checked underneath for termite damage (none, thankfully!). He also gave me advice on tentative plans we have for installing ceiling fans and kitchen remodeling. Sadly, I ran out of things for him to do or ask about before our time was up, so I said good-bye. I would not hesitate to use Commonwealth Renovations for future services, and have definitely put them on my short list for the projects we are planning.

After a delay on my part I contacted Commonwealth and was able to get an appointment on the day I wanted and at a time that acceptable. The mechanic was running late because of service calls ahead of me, but I was called and kept in the loop as to his schedule and potential arrival time. I had two bathrooms with some grout work to be done. I was advised that floor tile would not be able to be done because of the large amount of grout that would have to be dug out before re-grouting, and I had only a two hour window from the Big Deal. There were areas in both bathrooms that had repairable areas. In one bath needed areas around the floor and along the tub. The second bath has a shower with grout repair needed at the floor and corners. Work in these areas was done and appearances are good to my eye. Oh, but wait ... there's more. In checking on the work I found that the grout area above the soap dish was not done. And there was no discussion, but it stands out. Also I now see an area of brick on my front porch that appears to have been used to scrape off the mechanic's float. I now have to see if it can be cleaned.
