It went ok. I had to reschedule the original May apppointment due to an emergency and when I called to rescdule he had lost an employee so they were not able to come back out until the July. He did a great job when he did come out.

They did an excellent job on that. I have to wait a little while but the gentleman came in with a helper and they knew what they were doing and they did a really top-quality job. I was very impressed with the job they did. I was very pleased with the job they were doing.

Robert was due to arrive at 9am. He arrived before that, and we went over the handyman list. He was at work on the projects by 9! In the 3 hours he was there he did the following: hung 3 bulky prints replaced 2 curtain rods drilled a hole into and added a knob to a drawer fixed weather stripping on a storm door diagnosed the problem with the ice maker worked on leaky faucet (He discovered a specific replacement piece was needed, and I went to the hardware store to get it, but they were out of stock. Will put it on the list for next time.) measured for some carpentry work I'd like done in the future.

Purchased an Angies's list deal for 2 hours of caulking. Chris came out and was very nice. I told him on the phone that I thought that I had all of the caulk and grout that he would need. It was my understanding from an earlier conversation that he would have a truck with his own caulk supplies as well. When he got here he did not have a truck and I did not have a caulk gun, just the tubes. He did his best without the gun. The thing that I didn't like was that I felt that he rushed the job. I paid for 2 hours so there was no need to rush. He only did the areas that I specifically pointed to. There was a strip in front of the shower that I did not point to but would have thought that he would have done as part of the shower. It certainly looked like it needed to be redone. I also thought that he could have done a neater job with the grout in the kitchen especially since he had plenty of time left over. He left more excess on the back splash than I would have liked..

The caulking on the vanity backsplash was sloppy. In removing the old back splash there was a transition "line between the painted drywall and the "raw" drywall under the old backsplash. In the places where the new backsplash did not quite cover the transition line, the workers caulked over the transition. However, the painted portion of the drywall "curved away" from the portion below it and stuck through the caulking. Also, the new pipes installed with the new faucets leak. Very sloppy job!

Communication was difficult. It always took duplicate or triplicate voice mails/emails to get a response. The installation of the tile at the corners was shoddy. A gap up along the bathtub was filled with grout and some caulk. The transition between the bathroom and the carpet was not well done and a transition strip won't secure (I think the underlayment extends out too far). The quarter rounds were mutilated and not put back into place properly. A call and email to request the transition be corrected was not returned.

Went well, had to return to fix a few problems. They acted promptly. One problem remained , one sink still has minor leaks not sure if its related to hardware used. Installer was very helpful and prompt in trying to repair. A few hidden costs, but overall a good value. Will be looking for additional coupons.

We purchased an Angie's List special for two hours of grout restoration/repair. The contractor spent about half an hour working on the shower and he applied a layer of grout to some cracked/stained grout. I was hoping he would file out the old grout but he said that would take far longer than two hours. We had time left so we asked what other work he could do. He did a good job with several other small tasks and worked hard for the entire two hours.

The project was an extensive one with lots of components. Josh has been completely professional, communicative whenever I needed to discuss something. The job looks fantastic, the neighbors are jealous and we are very pleased. As with all jobs they take longer than anyone plans or wants. We struggled with a rainy late spring and early summer which slowed the process down. Josh has responded to every concern and made it his priority to get the job done to my satisfaction. He has not nickled and dimed me for every change and the whole project has gone as well as these sorts of things can go. I am very pleased and will use Commonwealth Curb Appeal for my next project.

I called them on a Wednesday, May 29, 2013 and spoke with the owner J.B. Sipe. He came on that following Friday, May 31, 2013 and gave us quote. We wanted to have to work completed for a July 4th event that we were planning. J.B. told us that if we could let him know by Monday, May 3, 2013 he would be able to get us put on the schedule before our July 4th event. He stated that this would be a 3 day project. I called J.B. on Monday morning and we got an email from him that evening with the contract. There were a few minor details (Angie's List coupon and # of colors) that we had discussed when he gave me the quote that were not listed in the contract. I sent him an email and we got the new contract that following Tuesday, June 4, 2013 . I signed the new contract and emailed it back on Wednesday morning. I called J.B. on Friday, June 7, 2013 to confirm that he had received the contract and to make sure that we were on the schedule. He called me back and confirmed that he had received the contract and that we were on the schedule with a projected start date in about 3 weeks. I called J.B. on June 26, 2013 to get a status update and he told me that they would be out on Friday, June 28, 2013 to begin the project. They started clearing the areas for the patio on Friday and I met with Luis to pick out the design and the colors. They finished all the framing that evening and planned to start pouring the concrete on Monday, July 1, 2013, but we got heavy rains for the next 2 days. They were able to pour the concrete and cover it on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 before we go hit with another heavy rain that afternoon and evening. Since the next day was the 4th we figured it would be Friday at the earliest before they would be back, but to my surprise while I was cleaning off the deck for our event the guys showed up that morning at about 9:30 am and were finished by 2:30 pm. We are very pleased with the results and the fact that they did everything they could to meet our deadline. After the sealant dried (5 hours), we were able to use the new patio and walkway later that evening. J.B. came by on Saturday, July 6, 2013 to complete the install the lights. We plan to use them again.
Description of Work: Commonwealth Renovations added a stamp concrete patios (12'X8' & 10'X10'), sidewalk (3'X45') and carport pad (18'X19'). They also installed low voltage lighting lights to my patio and existing deck steps.

Right after I bought Mr. Sipe's services (3 hours of handyman work for $99) on February 23, I send him an email outlining what I wanted him to help with. I needed him to replace a broken window pane, to re-attach a post lamp, and, if there was time, to re-attach a section of fencing. I included photos and indicated that I would like the work completed by the first of April. I did not hear back from him, but I got busy with a new puppy and didn't get back in touch until May 14. I resent the original email and photos and asked him to call me. He did not. I called him on May 30 and left a pretty detailed message and asked him to call me. He did not. In the meantime, I have fixed the things that needed fixing myself. So, even though the experience (my first with Angie's List) was totally unsatisfactory, and even though I am out $99, I did successfully replace a window pane and came up with a solution for re-installing the broken post light. I had fixed the fence piece much earlier. I expect that Mr. Sipe offered this Big Deal in order to expand his client list, and, had he been responsive and had he completed the work efficiently and in a timely fashion, I would have likely used him again in the future. But, as things stand, that is not going to happen.

Robert arrived around 9:30. He called ahead of time to let me know what time to expect him. We reviewed my "to-do" list and he made several excellent suggestions which saved me money on materials. I needed him to purchase materials as I did not feel confident doing so. He also needed a taller ladder to replace an outside light fixture. Leaving for materials took several hours but was necessary. When he returned he went right to work and finished everything on my list except the replacement of the outside fixture. I paid $45 for an additional hour of time. Installing the new posts and lattice took most of the time. I paid $200 for materials but did not see the receipts This seemed like a fair amount, but I realized afterwards I should have asked for receipts for my own records.
Description of Work: The provider installed several fence panels by shed, installed lattice around heat pumps, changed ceiling light bulbs in basement and garage. The above cost includes service and materials.

Repeated calls to contact listed in deal, but could only leave messages which were not returned. Contacted Angie's List requesting credit or another provider because I did not want to use this company. Angie's List evidently contacted provider because 2 days later I received a voice message from an employee rather than the owner of the company apologizing that they had lost my voice message (strange since I left multiple messages). Due to the non-professional impression I did not want to continue with this provider and have requested the services be performed by another provider or a credit for the services.

They told me it would take two weeks, but it only took them less than a week. When they finished the work, it looked good except I didn't like the spacing around the dryer vent and light fixture on the back of my house. I thought the siding should be closer against it. I gave them a call in April so they could address those issues and they needed to replace some of the railing on the deck. I hadn't heard from them, so I emailed the comany owner and explained that I needed someone to come out. Chris came and looked at it and said they would have to order more siding for me because they don't have anymore on hand. I emailed them in April and May saying that they needed to come out and do this work. He said that Chris was gone on a cruise and would be at my house on Friday and that has been over a month ago. I haven't heard from the company or from Chris. The wood on my deck was starting to split and they said I needed to seal it. When I was doing this, I noticed more issues that needed to be addressed. I also noticed there is some mold underneath the deck.

Response from Commonwealth Renovations
Initially, she requested an estimate on her entire house and I told her it would be 2 weeks to complete. It wasn’t in her budget so I charged because it needed to be done but was not in her budget. (removed member name) was very happy with the siding & deck. A couple of months later she called about the spacing around dryer vent and light fixture. I explained that it was a different installation from aluminum siding where everything fits tight & with vinyl you leave a small space for it to expand and contract. The install was correct. Against my recommendation, she requested the panels be replaced, so to satisfy her I agreed to do that. The siding is not a stock siding but a special order. I have ordered and paid for a box but am still waiting on it. They will only deliver full truck loads and I have no control over that. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this has cause her and I have every intention of replacing the panels but the material is not yet in. I have assured her that no water or bugs will get behind the siding. I feel this is not a legitimate complaint because I have done everything to try to satisfy her (even against my recommendations). There is no need for an outside company to handle this because I have already paid for the siding and am just simply waiting for delivery.

The first thing that strikes me is they are a very good company. They are keen to do a great job. My interaction with the handyman was pretty good. I got the impression, he was a contractor because of the surge of work due to the big deal. He knew the owner fairly well and he did a pretty good job. I was clear on the phone, this was a third story repair and he did not bring a long enough ladder even though I told him to. He said to me, "Most people, don't know how big the ladder needs to be. I assumed you were exaggerating." He had to leave and we had to reschedule. I also asked him to build the door in a certain style. I wanted the gate with two doors and hinges on both sides. He said we don't need that. We just need one door and I will build it this way. He proceeded to built it to his specification and not the way I had requested. It did not serve my needs. It did not look right. I called him back and I said, he needed to fix this. He came back and kind of fixed it. There was a problem with the latch and I had to build the second door. He did not do the latch very well. He did not have pride in his work and if it was his house, he would not have done the work like that. He really did not care about how it looked. So, to that extent, I am a perfectionist, so I don't know if I would have gotten anybody to get it exactly how I wanted. I felt like he was rushing the job and he had way too much work to do. He came after hours. He was not excited about being here. This happens a lot with these big deals. They sign up for the deal, and they don't realize that their will be a big surge in the level of work for their company.
Description of Work: I used Commonwealth Renovations for handymen. I bought a big deal for 99 dollars for general handymen services. I did not spend anymore than the 99 deal. I had a piece of sliding, that had come separated from the peak of my roof. It was super high. I could not get to it. He replaced that. We had a vent screen on the top floor of my house. That had come off and he replaced that. He built gate doors so we could use the area under the front porche as storage.

We live in a 1200 sq foot L-shaped rancher, and used an Angie's List coupon for a 2000 sq ft roof for our new roof, which we needed badly. We added replacing the gutter on the front porch to our order, as the current one has been banged up by storms, tree limbs, etc. We felt due to the size of our roof, the coupon should give us some cushion if there were any extra charges. And there were. They had to replace 3 sheets of ply-wood on the roof. The roof looks great and has done very well in the storms we have had recently. The guys who worked on the roof were prompt, courteous, and cleaned up well after themselves, as promised. The only disappointment is the gutter was not replaced, but they did get the dings out of it, so it does look better than before. The other thing is it took a while after the roof was done to pay Mr. Sipe. We kept leaving messages for him to call us or send us the itemized invoice so we could pay him, and he must be really busy...it took a while for him to get back with us. We did not get an itimized invoice, just the proposal with the amount filled in for $900 more than the coupon. The roof was on, I was not home, and my hubby paid with no questions asked. I do not know how much the plywood cost (or the labor to put it on), but it's done & paid & we are happy with our roof.

I was a little disappointed with them because I called them probably a month and a half after they were here because I noticed a scratch on my tub. They came out and looked at it but never got back in touch with me. From his attitude when he was here I can sort of tell that he felt that his guy didn't do it but he never got back in touch with me either. I just thought that it would have been nice for him to close that loop. He was very nice about coming over and setting time to come over it's just that he didn't follow up.

There were extra charges aside from the deal that we purchased. There were some issues that came so we asked them to do extra work on top of it. I would never recommend them to do the work. The guys were really nice and did the job but I told the contractor that the guys that did the work seem very rushed to finish their work. So that reflected in the actual work that was done. As a result, we had to have them come back a couple of times to fix some things that they didn't do right the first time. There was also a leak in the ceiling and they had to come place a push over ceiling because there was a leak form the tub with something that they didn't put together right. So there were a lot of issues surrounding the job that they had done. They got a job done but it was a lot of headache. We also didn't have a breakdown of what the charges were. I asked the contractor several times for an itemized bill and he still has not sent it to me. We just wanted to know exactly what we paid for. They responded well when we called them about the leak. They came right away.
