I am very happy with the result. They did a thorough job. My shower and bathroom in general look very nice. Definitely recommend and will use in the future.
Description of Work: Removed old caulk in MBR shower, full length of two corners, all around the bottom. They spent some time cleaning up mildew that had accumulated behind the old caulk. He gave very good suggestions on how to best clean the grout. They also re-caulked around the toilet and the bathroom sink. I got an estimate for possible future work.

Good overall. Pricing and estimates are challenging to understand at it's hourly labor with materials separate. I believe what I paid equalled earlier fixed price quotes. Quality of work was very good. Restored antique garage doors and windows and fitted them nicely.

Anderson Construction did a good job overall. They got straight A's from me except for the cost category. Like I stated in my ratings, I was impressed with their professionalism and quality of work. The only problem is that I bought the $99.00 dollar discount in order to save myself the effort (as I had done in the past) of regrouting my bathroom. If I had realized that the cost would eventually rise to $935.00 (due to some mold) I would probably have done it myself. They are a good company overall and I recommend them.

***Update*** After initial frustrations of trying to get on the schedule for a big deal for a couple of reasons, Anderson Construction is now at my house performing the service. They arrived early and were very friendly. They xare using drop cloths and have given me excellent advice in the best way to repair/patch the bathrooms that they are working on. I plan to update this review once the service is complete.

Mike was awesome! He listened to my concerns and was able to work in most of the "dreams" in a way that stayed within the budget. I met with a cabinet designer and picked out cabinets and colors. Once all the details were in place I received digital drawing showing my new kitchen and the price list. I had already picked out appliances and printed pictures of what type of design style I preferred. Due to family events I wasn't able to have the work done but now know what I want and how much to budget for. Dos: I would give Anderson Construction my business.
Description of Work: Dos: They did an in-depth inspection the kitchen and adjoining rooms. Professional and courteous. He asked what I had envisioned for the area. Asked great questions of like what would my dream kitchen would look like. Then we talked about what was realistic with in my budget within the structure of the house. Don'ts: None

I used the Angie's list deal to get 3 hours of work toward grout restoration for my tub. Do your pricing research first! The deal will not get you a complete job. I had to pay for additional hours of labor and supplies. That said, Mike and his partner made my dingy shower look bright and fresh for far less than replacing the tile. They also came during the holidays to make sure the project was done in time for my open house. I got nothing but great reviews about the look of the bathroom, and the place was under contract within a week! Definitely recommend.

Michael Anderson came to the house to determine what equipment and crew was needed to remove the damaged portico. He called me in FL, explained that he needed a jackhammer to remove the posts, replace the front porch stone pieces, and take away the damaged materials. He is simply the best. He was responsive, professional. Also, we discussed repairs to the rotting wood on the front door, windows and refinishing the wood deck.
Description of Work: I called Michael Anderson from FL b/c the front door portico was sagging and I was desperate to have it removed. This was a safety issue. My neighbor sent a text with photo of damaged portico. I spoke to Michael Anderson, texted photo of damaged portico. Michael rearranged his schedule to assess the problem.

I called Michael from FL, desperate to have the sagging front porch portico removed. I had never used his services, or spoken to him before. We r so appreciative that Michael rearranged his schedule to help us out with a dangerous situation, a sagging front porch portico. The portico was built in 1960 and most likely weakened by previous snows, bad weather. We have been in FL for months caring for a terminally ill family member and Michael came to our rescue. Michael and his crew perform quality work. Because of his responsiveness, professionalism, and kindness, we hired him for remodeling projects. Michael is SIMPLY the BEST.
Description of Work: Michael Anderson and his crew removed the damaged wooden front porch portico. This included removing the portico posts cemented into the front porch tile and the tile pieces. He took away these materials that included a substantial amount of wood.

The work took a little longer cost quite a bit more than we anticipated after our first conversations with Mke Anderson. That said, the bathrooom looks pretty good now, and, after a few hiccups, everything works well. The hiccups included a leaky tub drain, a damaged shower door, and a leaky toilet drain. Mike Anderson came by and fixed the leaky tub drain as soon as we discoved the issue and sent him pictures. The shower door was purely asthetic (the saw skipped when trimming the overhead bar, causing it to scrape the surface). Replacing the scratched overhead bar took several months, but last week Mike was able to fix that as well. The toilet drain has been a different sort of problem. Mike Anderson noted that the toilet flange in our exisitng plumbing is"oversized" and did not match the toilet. He performed what he deemed a temporary makeshift fix, which worked for a few months but had to be redone last week after it started leaking. He informed us that actually installing the correct part, which he says was not available when the inital work was done last year, will cost at least another $300.

This required the floor to be leveled and extensive adjustments be made to the walls. With all the finessing that had to be done to make 12"x36" porcelain tiles work, I would have to say Mike Anderson is in the category of a craftsman.

It started out with having them replace a big tub with a shower. They did some very fancy tile work and glossed in the shower as well. After that project I had them come out again and replace my countertop with granite and two sinks. They also added some new faucets. He later came out and installed some grab bars for me.

I had my floor in my bathroom redone due to water damage from a leaky pipe throughout the years. Mike was referred from a family friend and my decision to go with Anderson Construction looking back was worth every penny. The prices that other companies were providing didn't exactly meet my budget. Mike was very understanding and military friendly therefore reducing the price to a more manageable amount. He was very friendly and thorough in his work explaining each step of the process in its entirety. With nearly 40 years of Construction experience Mike has mastered the trade and his work proves it. I would highly recommend Anderson Construction for anyone who expects quality work. Thank you
Description of Work: Master Bathroom remodeling: Consisted of tearing out old floor tiles and installing new ones. Installed a new "water friendly" toilet that saves money on my water bill. Installed and molded a new larger tub that fit perfectly in my master bathroom. Installed new vanity to include base boards and wood trim. Removed all the old caulking to include in my shower and replaced with new. Provided friendly tips that keep the normal wear and tear in my bathroom at a minimum.

We did not have the work done because we ultimately decided that we might be moving too soon to take advantage of the deal. However, Mike Anderson took great personal interest in ensuring that we would be happy with the deal. Because of our travel plans, we had to postpone our meeting. He was most accommodating, working with us to schedule an appointment that would work for us. He then spent the better part of an afternoon with us, talking through all of the options, surveying the site meticulously, and estimating exactly what would be required for the job we were interested in. He was personable, professional, thorough, and obviously competent. His job knowledge reassured us that we had talked to the right man. Mike even went so far as to order some of the materials in advance to be ready for the job. Although we did not follow through with the work, we would definitely hire Mike Anderson for a future job if we should stay here in Arlington.

Here are the facts: Original purchase price = $5,999 (supposedly equal to $11,199 value for time and materials to renovate a standard 5? X 8? bathroom) Additional cost for time and materials: $11,283 $17,282 TOTAL COST (plus an additional amount owner purchased for miscellaneous items including medicine cabinet and lighting fixture) Total construction time consumed at least 14 days over a total of about a month during which time a family member had to remain on premises. I am not entirely sure about cost to remove and replace all drywall beyond that covered in the contract, but time to complete was more than 3 days beyond that covered by the original purchase. Since this was not included in the original contract, the additional days for drywall appeared to be billed at $120 an hour, the standard contract wage rate for time not covered by contract price which I was told was programmed for 5 days completion time. Additional time was required to remove and replace tile accent band which was installed incorrectly. Other days beyond expected contract time was consumed by tile installation, crown molding (not part of contract), and other material and equipment installation. Bottom Line: - Final product for tile and equipment installation, paint, etc. was of good quality with some minor imperfections. - Time and money management was difficult. - Final cost for project was 35% more than $11,199 purchased value some of which can be attributed to high quality fixtures and cabinet, but the final cost is somewhat beyond what a bathroom renovation of this size and quality would justify and would exceed the amount I would be willing to pay using a standard estimate process. - Although the $120 per hour labor costs are written into the contract and are legitimate, they exceed any costs for contract work of this type of quality and scope that I have dealt with in the past. - Caveat Emptor. A final comment concerning Angie?s List Specials is warranted. I have yet to pay for a List Special that did not end up with additional, sometimes significant, costs above and beyond that specified in the Special. The comparison between a Special price and putative value (i.e., savings) is highly suspect and difficult to quantify. Although most offerings are legitimate, they frequently appear to be structured with the idea that the offering is a low end and would require some upgraded material or additional necessary tasks to be a wholly satisfactory project.

Reviewing the facts: A standard bathroom is 5' X 8' and the customers bathroom was 5' X 9' -The coupon only covered 3/4' for floor removal for $59.99 -The floor in the customers bathroom was 1 1/2' which did not apply to the coupon -My company installed 3/4' plywood with thin set and also installed tile board and thin set that down -Dry wall was completely removed from bathroom down to bare stud, coupon did not cover to remove drywall completely out of bathroom -New plumbing was installed into floor for tub drain assembly and was not included in coupon -Framing box was installed in shower -Plumbing for two part system (shower faucet & shower head & shower sprayer with slide bar ) took an additional two days for custom plumbing (estimated shower assembly for material alone was $1600 Customer gave permission to install and then changed his mind on height of both units which then had to be moved -The coupon services was listed for 5 days but our services was given for 7 days, 6th day was not billed at $120 -The customer payed out $120 for two workers (and four different days, three workers at a time), after that it went day after day, and ended up being less than $35/hour per person after the coupon was applied -Total days past coupon was 12 days, the company was more than reasonable on the time frame to complete the job and the job was completed to customers needs step by step -The tile was installed with elongated tile, which was not covered with the coupon -Borders were installed and customer gave permission and then changed his mind and had it taken out and reinstalled (took two days to install border and was not included in the coupon) -Electrical work was done which took two days -Dry wall was installed and finished with three coats -Medicine cabinet was framed to size -All drywall was primed and painted complete bathroom -Additional tile bars were installed on wall -Crown molding was installed and painted -New door trim was installed and painted -Customer also had waynescoat installed on all walls as well as tile tub to ceiling which was passed the square foot which was given in coupon -All new plumbing for vanity was installed from wall out -The products quality was the best and was the most expense of this job -The allowance was $1600 that was taken off -The contractor bought additional items out of pocket that totaled up to $675 that the customer was not charged for -The workers cleaned everyday and tarps were placed to keep cleanliness Overall the finishing product was perfect and my company enjoyed working with [removed member name], very nice people and hospitality was great! Working with Mike was a bit frustrating, as it took a while to get an estimate from him. I also was surprised that we were expected to purchase all of the materials needed for the project. That said, we actually cancelled the work because of my husband losing his job and have decided that we need to conserve funds due to our tenuous job situation.

The coupon that the customer purchased did not cover free consultation and also contractor spent a lot of time to make plans for the bar. The contractor supplied the material list for customer, which was not included in coupon to pick material up.The contractor provided customer with additional estimated time to finish for additional work that exceeded coupon. The delay was Reico because of the design and the questions we had that was not fulfilled and the estimate that the contractor gave was not included to build the cabinets and that was the problem. Although there was change about the cabinets for contractor to add extensions to cabinets it did not change the price, it remained the same. I enjoyed coming out to [removed member name]'s home and thank her for the grade and hope she will reconsider to an A because a lot of time was spent to meet with designer twice at Reico and to meet customers needs.

When we hired Anderson Construction it was based on the impression we got from its owner, MIke. He seemed knowledgeable, fair in price, and not too intimidated by the job, which several other contractors had been. Our project was basically rebuilding part of a room/covered porch that had been damaged due to wet rot and improper initial construction. All the while we did not want the new roof torn off or the room torn down to the ground. The first day things went alright I guess and we were extremely impressed by the work done by the laborers themselves. As the job progressed we began to not only loose patience with Mike, but get extremely mad. The things that came out of his mouth at the end of each day seemed to imply the work was going to take a lot longer and cost a lot more than we had initially discussed. However this was not what we ourselves saw ,nor what the laborers told us when we spoke with them at the end of each work day. Additionally getting Mike to commit things on paper, such as price, job duration etc. was difficult despite the fact we had agreed to all those things prior to the job start. Another constant annoyance was Mike's inability to keep track of his supply needs. He regularly asked me to fetch him supplies, which included construction trash bags and all the siding supplies. When he finally asked me, and keep in mind I am a 5'7" female, to go and get a 4'x8' piece of plywood from Home Depot for the job by myself I quite literally could not believe my ears. I do have to say that the workmen and women he hired for our job were excellent. They showed up on time, knew their stuff and did very high quality work. Plus they were drama free. If I had the option of hiring them without having to deal with Mike I would do it again. We ended our job in accordance with the time frame we had originally proposed, but prior to the job being finished because we had had it with the drama. We didn't care that it wasn't finished. We were pretty sure that if we let Mike finish the job it would have run into June and cost us a fortune.

The workers and the owner worked no more than 4 days and within those 4 days -the room was framed -doors and windows were installed -most plywood was removed and reinstalled -stairway was disassembled -rotten headers were taken out -floor plywood was cut and new plywood was installed -building was wrapped in ice guard around windows and doors -all trash was hauled by contractor -contractor also picked up materials that was not included in the price (it was labor only) The final part of job was siding and j channel which would have only taken another day and a half. The company was ready to go straight through to finish product. On the fourth day customer told contractor that they could not proceed due to shortage of money. The final project would have been completed on May 24th Overall Anderson Construction enjoyed working with Mr and Mrs [removed member name] and hope that they reconsider their grade that was given, because we really put in a lot of effort trying to fulfill the customers needs.

They were very knowledgeable and helpful. The work was great and I got excellent value for the money that I spent.
Description of Work: They fixed a leaking shower, a leaky washing machine, and estimated more bathroom remodeling.

Response from Anderson Construction
The company came out to do all the tasks that were asked. The customer bought a $595 coupon and two workers and the owner came out to the job site. It did not cover plumbing which the contractor did. He also ran for material and did additional time and the customer was not charged for it. The shower was also worked on which was not included in the coupon. Overall we did enjoy the hospitality of the customer and completed all projects and hope that the customer will change their mind about the grade that was given.
