Mr. Mitchner was excellent in ordering our door. Based on his recommendation I chose a manufacture for the door and the color. It was made to exact fit for our doorway.

here's what i needed: a rake, leaf bags, a cleaning solvent, and a few miscellaneous household items. No one knew where the rakes were: outside? inside? didn't matter because they were out of rakes and did not know when they would get them. Leaf bags: found them while looking for the rake. Cleaning solvent: no one knew where that was, though we guessed house cleaning product section. No. Outdoors? No. By accident, one salesperson heard what i was looking for and said they had moved that one item to the paint section. I want to like Home Depot because by and large I think their salespeople are trying to help ....but it's always an exercise in futility. I spent 45 minutes and most of what i needed i could not find. I ended up at the local hardware store...and probably paid $10 more, but i got everything i needed in about 10 minutes.
Description of Work: The folks working at Home Depot are by and large very friendly and very nice. However, they do not know where things are and for the most part can't answer basic home repair questions.

I met up with Mary Beth - a kitchen designer at Home Depot. I told her I wanted to renovate my very small galley kitchen by replacing my 1970s kitchen cabinets and countertops with new cabinets and granite tops. She showed me various brands cabinets and doors in my preferred wood (cherry) and gave me rough estimates of the cost of each option. I paid $39 for a HD contractor to go in and do the precise measurements for the cabinets and counters - the contractor provide estimated labor cost to do the renovation. Due to his excessive cost estimates, I ended up hiring my own contractor. I went back to the store and finalized the design and type of cabinets and granite, Mary Beth came up with a great design to utilize the limited space in my kitchen and to maximize storage. She recommended one of the cabinets be glass faced and recessed (which provided excellent space right above my sink) and looks great. Due to the bulkhead issue in my ceiling, Mary Beth came up with a solution for the sometime useless cabinets above the refrigerator. She came up with a measurement for those cabinets that fit within the bulkhead limitation but came out far enough that I can actually utilize the cabinets. For $6,000, I received a great design, solid hardwood cherry kitchen cabinets, gorgeous granite countertops (which were installed beautifully by an excellent granite vendor (CIA counters - I have a separate review for them), and a stainless steel sink. I'm very pleased with my kitchen.
Description of Work: Bought new Kitchen cabinets and granite countertops.

I felt like it was good. It did take a little bit of time for them to get the materials. There was only 1 installer, so it took 3 days. Everything looks great. He went above and beyond. He put in a support for my existing countertop it was kind of an extra.

They did a pretty good job. They did tear some of the linoleum. You have to cut it out around things and some of the tear tore but that wasn't a big deal because it was down in the basement behind something. It was torn a little bit when they cut it. I'm sure it was a good price or we wouldn't have done it. It was fair and it was comparable to other providers. Their responsiveness was good. I don't think we're going to use them again in the future.

We were very pleased with that. The contractor was really nice but he really wanted us to set up a date with them but we wanted to wait and decide on a future remodel. These free estimates are not what they seem, there is something attached to every one of them. They want you to make the decision right then and there. I was not very pleased with the contractor. I think they need to license a better contractor. I will not use them in the future.

I went to their store for the quote. I went there and they did the quote for me there. The quote was approximately for $2000. It was a pain as there were very few people there and so, I waited forever for a person to pay attention. I was all ready to go with them but I went ahead with a local business as they were able to match the quote and also because they were committed to being environmentally friendly. Home Depot also had the same carpet as they too had a line of environmentally friendly carpets and I saw what I wanted. However, they were very hard but they did make a follow up call and I may have told them that I was in a decision making process or that I was not going to do it at that time or something for which they said okay and that was the end of it. They never called me back. Their responsiveness wasn't great in the store but I guess that it was okay when I finally got someone. I would use them in the future not necessarily for carpets but for the other things. I did not do that much better financially as there wasn't a dramatic difference in the price compared to the other service provider that I finally went ahead with but it was a commitment to explore a local business that was committed to being environmentally friendly.
Description of Work: I received a quote from Home Depot in June 2011 for the carpet installation in my hallways, staircase and two bedrooms.

The price was more than I could afford, but they did a fine job. I would rate them high on quality. They are nearby. They appear to get good sub contractors who can talk with people. They put on the tiles very nicely. They are easy to work with. I wouldn't recommend anybody else. I would tell people to do the same as they always do to check whether the price is the best price. They'll probably get a good job done if they go with Home Depot. Their punctuality is very good. They are not really great, but they are satisfactory. I probably will use them again as they are just down the street.

Everything went very smoothly. The sales person at the store wasn't too helpful, but we basically knew what we wanted, and asked the questions we needed answers to. We received a cost estimate at the store, based on our estimated dimensions for the room. It was very close to the final price (less than $100 off). The store placed a request for their measuring subcontractor to come out and take exact measurements. The day of the measurements, we were given a three hour window, and the measurer was on time, and worked very quickly, finishing in less than 20 minutes. We received an exact quote the following day and placed the order. Our carpet came in 7 days after that (as estimated) and we were able to schedule installation over the next few days, on the day we wanted. The actual installers showed up on time -- it was two very hardworking guys who had our old carpet out in no time, and worked steadily over the next two hours or so to install the new bedroom carpet, which was great. We were very happy with it. For the stairs, they took appropriate measurements, let me see the carpet to ensure that it was the correct carpet, then took it back to their warehouse to be bound on the edges (we didn't have wall to wall on the stairs). They came back four days later (as requested) and installed the carpet on the stairs. It was the same team, and once again, they were on time and very hardworking. We were very happy with the overall experience.
Description of Work: We had carpet replaced in both our bedrooms and on our stairs. We chose a midlevel carpet with the a midlevel pad. We had Home Depot remove our old carpet and pad and install the new ones.

Their price was good. Their responsiveness was good. The quality of the carpet was also good. Everything was fine except that when the installation was done a minor rod in the bathroom was damaged. It was pulled away from the wall and the wall board was cracked. Nothing could have done that apart from the furniture that they showed into the bathroom to lay the carpet in the bedroom. They denied any responsibility. We went to Home Depot several times and finally talked to an assistant manager. We were willing to go through the entire process of getting that repaired. We were having a time frame to put the house on the market. They finally made everything right. They told someone to fix it and bring them the bill so that they could reimburse it. It was a happy ending but initially they denied everything and that was frustrating.

We decided on hardwood instead so we did not use them. They were very professional. They came and measured, showed us where we had some unevenness in the floors, emailed us the quote, and told us what we would need to order in terms of carpet; they were very thorough. We were expecting the price to be a little less but it may have been higher because of the unevenness. They came with all of the correct tools and equipment and they knew how to measure the room correctly.

Overall, it is a spectacular window. It looks beautiful. They did a little bit of damage to wall which they did not tell us about. We did not find it until a month later because it was hidden behind curtain. I wish they would have given us the heads up and told us about it. They did a great job with the sale. They provided all the information and options. I knew what I was getting into. They were very good at the time of sale. I also appreciate that it came lifetime warranty.

Done quickly and professionally...and we got 10% off (from a coupon)...the only glitch was in ordering they undercharged us (b/c of a less than trained cashier who wasn't familiar with special orders)...SO...days later we ended up coughing up another 150 (included in my estimate)...then I saw it for less at another home improvement company...and they agreed to price match...took some effort...but the quality and price made it worth it.

Carpet manager at the Seven Corners store was very knowledgeable in providing us with the +/- of the various carpet choices relative to the samples that we brought with us (from other stores). With a super special on the carpet and a 199/installation special, we scored a quality carpet at a great price. Installers were prompt and professional.

Local hardware box store with every widget and mouse trap. It seems like since Home Depot beat another local store out of the market, the quality of the goods at Home Depot has gone down. Yes, the selection is affordable, but that also translates to cheap. Home Depot should complete not just on price, but also on quality. Too many products are just too flimsy - pushing me to other hardware stores.

Phillip Hendrickson came to my home to write up an estimate. When he came in he immediately asked if he could use my restroom (more on this later). He was very informative and helpful. When I balked at the $4500 price, he gave me an option with a lower grade window that was much cheaper. I followed up later and Home Depot was offering window installation at $199 per window installed. However, I found out that these are really unattractive and poor quality windows -- the AC-12 line; they feel very flimsy. Also there are many hidden charges -- if you want the outside wrapped in PVC it's $85 extra and it's $60 extra if the windows are on the second floor. The way they label their products is also very confusing. There is the 8500, 6500, 3000, and AC-12 lines and I couldn't get a straight answer as to the differences to these lines. I spoke to a manager at one point and he gave me different information than Phil did as to specs. I'm not sure if they are being deceptive, but perhaps the employees are confused themselves about the specs of each product. Also, when I've gone to the store to inquire, the salespeople working in windows really have no idea of what's what. All in all, I think their prices range widely as does their quality, but since they didn't inspire confidence I choose not to go with Home Depot. Now, this is the weird part of the story. When Phil left my home, I noticed that he had a large wet spot covering the back and front of his jeans. Remember that he had asked to use the restroom? I returned to the chair that he had been sitting on -- an antique dining room chair, mind you -- and found that it was wet...I'm guessing Phil soiled himself and I felt embarrassed for him, but I sure would have preferred if he told me so that I could cover the chair -- or better yet he could have just told me he had to come some other time! Weird.
Description of Work: Gave estimate for $4500 for replacement of 8 windows, and $3000 for lower grade windows. They also have time to time specials of $199 per window installed, but there are hidden charges.

I'd like to believe that I'll never do business with Home Depot again, but it's probably unavoidable. The door we bough cost $3100, a 50% increase over an identical door we bough 3 years ago. The labor to install the door would have cost $1200, if we hadn't argued with the manager at Home Depot for about 2 hours about their pricing. The labor quote estimated an addition $300 of "other labor" that no one could explain other than to say "that's what this stuff costs." When I asked "how many days" it was going to take to install the door, the manager said "less than two hours." So, $1200 for two men, for two hours. You do the math. Do you know anyone other than Home Depot's contractor's that earn $300/hour? I don't. The work was fine, but for $300/hour they wouldn't even come on a Saturday. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR DIGNITY. Buy windows and doors from someone local, who does this for a living and actually cares.
