I thought he gave me a realistic estimate. He seemed to know his job and I like that about him but unfortunately he did not get back to me with the quote. So far the person was personable and right on time. He expressed himself well. He didn't get back to me with the quote but I was happy with his level of expertise. I don't know the reason why he didn't call me back. I would like to use them in the future as long as they get back to me.

They were very professional and up front about the work they did and how much it would cost. Although this turned out to be beyond my current budget, I appreciated their no-nonsense approach.
Description of Work: They listened to my description of the problem and gave a detailed explanation of how they would solve the problem and how much it would cost. This let me know that our current budget wouldn't cover having this done correctly at this time. We will keep them in mind in the future.

Mark was extremely professional, responsive and easy to work with. I would definitely reccomend him to others. His quote for the work was reasonable, and he gave me candid feedback about what he thought would or wouldnt work best to solve my leaking foundation wall problems. Furthermore, the work was completed in a very timely manner.
Description of Work: D.E.S. identified and solved two problems that were the cause of water leaking into our basement during very heavy rain showers (because our backyard is down slope from the homes behind us) - in addition they rebuilt an unsafe stairwell retaining wall adjacent to where the water was leaking into our basement. Specifically, they excavated the dirt, then demolished and removed the retaining wall which held back the dirt in our backyard for the exterior basement stairwell. Our rear basement wall is completely below grade, so the stairwell retaining wall is 8 feet below grade. It needed to be removed because it was bowing in several inches from years of water pressure. D.E.S. rebuilt the stairwell wall, waterproofed the wall and installed drain tile to a buried pipe and drainage holes in the new wall. They also discovered a very large void (as in 1.5 feet deep by 3 feet long where there was no dirt under the concrete steps from years of erosion) where water was collecting/pooling against our foundation wall, and properly packed/filled/sealed it (Problem #1 solved) Then they excavated a 12 foot section of our foundation wall adjacent to the stairwell, found a crack in the foundation where a LOT of water was leaking into our basement during heavy rain showers, sealed the crack and waterproofed that entire 12 foot section of foundation wall (Problem #2 solved). Lastly, they excavated another section of the foundation and installed plastic liner to insure proper runoff, buried a downspout and added pop up emitter down slope, and regraded all of the above areas to promote water flow away from our foundation.

DES was the fourth landscaping outfit I tried. The three from homw I had previously proposals and estimates proved unacceptable: one was incompetent; one wasn't interested because the job was too small; and one was expert but very expensive. DES proved to be excellent in every way. Within two day after I contacted DES, co-owner Mark Lane came to assess the situation, and he understood the problem immediately. His proposed solution was similar to what the expensive company had proposed, but at half the price. Because the water problem was causing health problems in my household, Mark juggled the DES commitments to get this job scheduled in less than a week. DES contacted Miss Utility to mark the buried cables. The DES crew came on time, worked quietly, completed the work exactly as planned, and cleaned up. And, although the DES's long-time foreman closely supervised the work in process, Mark himself returned for final inspection. My drainage problem has been solved, and I intend to use DES again later this year for landscaping work. I recommend them very highly.
Description of Work: My problem was severe water drainage from adjacent property, which often flooded my yard, and recent heavy rains made the situation catastrophic. French drains need to be installed behind my property, with dual PVC pipes extended nearly 200 yards to the street so the surface water could be caught before entering my yard and redirected to the community storm drains. The narrow grassy area where the drains and PVC pipes had to be installed was jammed with below-ground electric, gas, and cable wires.

I wish doing business with everyone was as easy as it is with Drainage and Erosion Solutions. They have done three projects for me; most recenly they dug down to the footer of our raised foyer house to apply waterproofing along about 8 linear feet of wall; they redefined a swale that had filled in over the years, and added topsoil and mulch to an eroded slope. I called them on Tuesday and they came out on Saturday to do the work. Of course, they'd been out twice before, had drawings made for a job they did last fall, and it was a slow time of year. But still, they get A+ in responsiveness for this one. I got their name from a very nit-picky friend who will not sumit a report to Angie's list, but who sings the praises of Drainage and Erosion Solutions because his basement never gets wet when it rains anymore.. Update May 2013 - After DES finished waterproofing the foundation of my house and improving drainage in the yard, I waited an entire year before having the damaged walls inside the house repaired, just to be sure the problem was solved. Another year or so has gone by, water doesn't collect near the house, and the new walls have remained dry.

We had a clogged downspout that had caused extensive water damage in our basement. We repaired the inside ourselves but there was still a long-term drainage issue outside. Ken was great to work with and very knowledgeable about all of the possible problems and solutions. They installed 2 window wells with drains underneath and along the side of the house. They put gravel and stone in each well to facilitate drainage. In addition to working well to drain, the window wells provide a TON of additional natural light into our lower level (which is a walk-out basement). For each yard drain, they terminated it at our tree line and did an extra good job because they put river stone at the bottom of each drain. It prevents it from clogging and also looks great! The french drain on the other side of the yard works well and prevents water getting into the other side of the basement (which was an issue as well). They dug up a substantial portion of the wall and inserted waterproofing material as well as tarping. It has been 1.5 years since the work was done and all is working as designed! Highly recommend Drainage and Erosion Solutions.....excellent knowledge and efficient installation work.
Description of Work: Installed 2 window wells on 1 side of the house. Installed a french drain on the other side and did all the outside drain lines. Also added stacked stone around a front window well to make it more attractive.

Mark Lane et al. did an excellent job. He completed the original crawlspace job per specifications. Mark made additional recommendations regarding restoring the grade and we requested pressure washing of the siding and some basic landscaping. Overall he did and excellent job.
Description of Work: Removed and disposed of all trash. Graded soil then installed vapor barrier and R-30 insulation in crawlspace. Installed and compacted 5 yards of soil to fill holes and to restore positive grade away from foundation. Installed new window well for crawlspace entrance. Landscaped the front of house including removal of dead plants and trimming tree. Cut in new flower bed, planted azaleas, and installed mulch.

The job was done quickly and professionally. They came out one day to give an estimate and when I called him back we scheduled a date in December to do the work. About 3 men came out about 9 a.m. and dug around perimenter of basement awall, removing bushes carefully along with grass. They put a plastic barrier around wall and returned the dirt and bushes carefully. Also they installed a downspout to carry water away from the wall to a popout where water escapes in the lawn. The whole job took about 6 hours.

We are VERY UNHAPPY with their work. They created a surface water problem we never had before, and we have had to hand-dig and throw away the dreadful soil they installed. Problems include: 1) Company proposal said that gravel would come up to 12" of the surface, topped by soil. They would then "re-grade all disturbed areas & place topsoil & sod to restore yard. Haul away all extra soil from job site". Instead, they took away our topsoil and re-graded with the sub-soil clay that caused the original problem. Every time it rains, the soil cannot "perc" and the surface floods. After sending them photos of flooding, they sent a different crew to re-dig, remove a narrow strip of soil and replace with another layer of pipe, more gravel, plus the 1" of topsoil and sod. At the next rain, the surface flooded again. We are still digging out the awful soil they packed on top of the ditch. 2) Their work scattered several inches of the impermeable sub-soil in all our garden beds. We have had to remove it, bit by bit. The re-grading in no way resembles the original topography, but has a sharp drop to the trench area. 3) The latest problem is a "sink hole" at the right side of the house over the trench path, which seems to be spreading. We don't know what is causing this erosion. 4) They left unbelievable scarring on the driveway that they used for their equipment
Description of Work: We live on the down-side of a hill. Heavy clay soil beneath the surface doesn't allow water to "perc" after heavy rains. Company Installed a trench drain along the back side of the house & around the right side to the street. The trench was dug down to below basement level -about 9', lined with gravel and 2 layers of perforated pipe. The trench was then backfilled with the impermeable clay sub-soil that created the original problem. A VERY thin layer of topsoil -about one inch- was placed on top with sod.

Unfortunately, this client was very difficult to work with and made our job a lot harder than it should have been. The negative comments as stated above are exagerated way out of proportion and we responded quickly to all their complaints. No one is perfect and we strive to correct our mistakes, but we honestly do not know what else we could have done to please this client other than not perform the work that was requested and simply walk away.

I got the first estimate back in about a week or so. It was very detailed but did not include a price for the primary water abatement piece (parging around the foundation). I emailed him back, he responded with a price, which he said was a deal since he hadn't included it in the initial quote. I spent a couple of weeks thinking about what I wanted to do. Called him, said 'this is what I want to do (about $4000 worth of work), send me a revised estimate with just these elements and a second estimate for some front yard work' and that was the last I heard from him. $150 was a lot for what turned out to be a drawing of my yard and a price list.
Description of Work: I asked them to come out and do an estimate for helping to reduce/eliminate water standing in my crawlspace. The engineer, Ken, came out and spent quite a bit of time discussing the project with me and making a detailed drawing of my yard. I wanted a wide range of choices from barebones, keep the water out, to fabulous yard make over. I know that was asking a lot but they told you up front that the 'consultation' would be $150 so I figured I should find out what my choices were.

We had major problems with our front yard turning into a 6" deep lake during heavy rain. Our yard is the lowest in the block and all storm water run-off from both sides of the street is channeled into and through our front and back yards. (Would not have bought the house if we'd realized this!) We also had basement flooding (fixed with major waterproofing and installation of 2 sump pumps). Dave, the estimator, conducted a thorough inspection of the entire yard. He even determined the path water takes when it comes down the driveway. He measured, asked questions, made suggestions. We received full cost estimate in 2-3 days. The crew worked hard all week. We needed 12 tons of rock for the swales. The new stacked stone 5x7 front porch and flag stone steppers leading to it look great. The regrading around the house looks great. They also removed a rotting privacy fence, moved 3 bushes from the front of the house to the side, and filled in several shallow holes in the front yard. The end result is beautiful. Dave kept us informed throughout the process. He also instructed us to call if there are problems because the company will address problems if we find any. We haven't seen a heavy storm to observe the swales in action.
Description of Work: Regraded front, side and part of the back yard. This included clearing an old raised bed garden, increasing the soil depth by several inches, and mulching. Created rock swales and sod-covered swales to deal with yard flooding. Cleared and widened the exit for water that runs through the yard. Extended and buried 2 downspouts and 2 sump pump drain pipes to so they discharge into the rock swale. Removed and replaced sidewalk and front porch.

I didn't contact the company until late in the fall and it was December before they were able to perform the work; it poured rain as they were doing the grading and I felt sorry for the workers mired in mud. But the job they did has solved the problem and the cost was not much more than I'd paid another contractor for a solution that did not solve the overall problems. I am pleased with the job they did, will hire them again myself, and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: I hired this company to solve a leak in the basement wall after another contractor's work only partially solved the problem. DES dug down to the footer of the foundation, cleaned the wall, parged the wall and applied a coat of waterproofing agent. After refilling and compacting the trench they installed a catchbasin under the window well and a drain which they connected to the existing French drain; regraded under the rear deck, installed geotextile fabric topped with 2" river wash gravel; installed wall and footing drainage system behind a brick retaining wall and extended a buried drain pipe to an existing swale; removed damaged concrete pad and installed flagstone at threshold of side door.

I made an appointment with Dave Robey who showed up on time. He's very knowledgeable and helpful. It was peak season for exterior work, so we had to wait several weeks to get on the Drainage and Erosion Solutions calendar. The workers came on schedule, worked hard, and did an excellent job. They were neat and cleaned up their area. Drainage and Erosion Solutions, also called Ms. Utility, obtained a work permit. We are thrilled with our new egress window and would recommend Drainage and Erosion Solutions to other homeowners.
Description of Work: Drainage and Erosion Solutions excavated and removed a small well window. They installed a large code-compliant egress window(ScapeWel Window Well #4862-54). They installed 4'6" tall by 4' wide slider window(Anderson #244GW40464). They installed interior window trim. They mulched around the exterior window.
