We looked into quite a few options for builders and went with Moss based on the cost, Angie's List reviews and our meeting with Jason Hampel. Our process got off to a bit of a rocky start with the architect but once plans were finalized everything went extremely smoothly. We are incredibly pleased with the quality of the work that was done and as far as we're concerned our project manager Matt Alspaugh is worth his weight in gold. He was incredibly responsive throughout the project and whenever we had concerns or if there was an issue he was quick to respond and come up with a solution. My husband is rather particular and Matt always made sure he was happy with the way things were coming together. We were always comfortable with the contractors who were working in our house and we were pleased with how much most of them took pride in their work. Michael Pico built us some fantastic cubbies for our mudroom that deserve a special mention. We had a baby during the renovation (don't necessarily recommend that part) and Moss even went so far as to send us a baby gift which we felt was beyond thoughtful. We would not hesitate to recommend Moss and look forward to using them again for future projects.

that the check for our refund of $499 will be in the mail. We never received it and will NEVER refer anyone to this company. In fact, they stated that work was completed in our home, when nothing was ever done. This is a lie and made both of use look like idiots. Because of their long and unacceptable backlog, we declined an appointment and demanded a refund, TWICE. I was told over the phone that the check is in the mail. It was never sent and this proves that Moss has absolutely no integrity. I will be calling Angie's List Monday morning, Oct.20, 2014 to demand a refund once and for all. **** We will not be purchasing any more Angle's List deals as a result of these horrible experiences. ****

Stan was great to work with. He explained every step and gave us options on how the repair could be done. When we need handyman services in the future we will use Moss Building and ask for Stan.

Communication - very good. Greg called and was very helpful, courteous and professional - he set up a date and time and explained everything to me. (I had called him before purchasing the deal and explained the work I needed done). Top notch customer service! The Job - Very, very good. The service tech (Dolan) showed up early and ready to go to work. He explained everything in laymans terms and listened to me, addressing my questions and concerns. I feel like Dolan took the extra step to thoroughly go over the job with me. He was extremely efficient and his work ethic impeccable. He installed both the wall and base cabinets and the job nothing less than perfect! This company and their staff are awesome and I will use them again!

I was very pleased with Moss Building and Design and the service provided by their representative Mr. Greg Ives. The quality of his work and his professionalism are exemplary. He was efficient and immediately started performing the work upon his arrival after a brief conversation regarding the order of tasks which need to be done. Throughout the day, he kept me apprised of any details/concerns that he thought I should be aware of or required my input. His attention to details was impressive. Once done, he placed all the furniture back in it's original location, cleaned all the debris. He even asked me what I wanted to do with the light fixtures packaging. My experience with Moss Building and Design is probably one of the better ones in recent memory. Most home service companies we'll do what's minimally expected. The folks at Moss Building and Design went above and beyond. I will definitely be doing business with them again.

The project went extremely well. Moss was responsive and courteous in setting up the estimate and actual work. On the day scheduled, the workman showed up at a reasonable time, discussed what I wanted, and then went to work. Repairs were completed that day and I was pleased with the work. I will use Moss Home Services again and would recommend them.

I bought a coupon for 8 hours of handyman services to do some projects in preparation for selling my condo. Moss called promptly to schedule. Dolan arrived right on time on the appointed day. He was very polite and respectful of my home while he worked and kept me informed of his progress. All the work was completed and done well. Everyone I dealt with at this company was courteous and well informed. Communication was great and other kept every promise they made. I would gladly use their services again.

Moss Building and Design is fantastic! We used them last year for a major remodel to our new house, and we were very pleased. This year we wanted to make some major changes to our daylight basement. We again went through the process of soliciting bids from four solid remodeling companies to make sure that we had a good sense of cost. Based on our prior experience with Moss, their great employees and management, practical design, and price, we picked Moss again. Like last time, they were not the lowest bidder nor the highest in terms of price. (Note: This is the FIRST remodeling contractor that we have ever chosen to do business with a second time.) One of the owners, Justin, came out to the house and confirmed that we could have the same project manager again. We requested Bob Keene, as well as the same customer care manager, Kristen Corbett. Why? Because they had done such a great job last time and because they have always been pleasant, honest, flexible, and direct with us. So, Bob and Kristen helped us again with numerous design and materials decisions. They and the entire Moss team helped us stay on track. Moss, as a company, and as individual employees, knows how to keep a project moving forward and completed in the agreed upon timeframe. They were flexible when we decided to add crown molding to the scope of work. We were flexible in that it would take a bit more time. End result: Our daylight basement is stunning! The bathroom now has a great layout and is aging-in-place friendly and gorgeous! Our laundry room now works for us too. Bottom line: Moss does outstanding work by skilled, permanent employees; provides superior service (Bob and Kristen always took my calls or called me back on the same day), and offers a fair price. We would choose them again without hesitation. Check their references, and you will see lots of repeat customers.

Everything went smoothly, he arrived on time and as we had everything ready for materials, we got all our projects done and then some! I really liked the fact that there was no need for them to see the project first and it went so well, absolutely no complaints!

They showed up on time, everyone showed up and was very pleasant. Very professional and seemed to do a good job.

They did an excellent job from initial design ideas through completion. Workmen were professional and did high quality work. We ran into a major delay in the middle of the project due to late delivery of a window provided and installed by another contractor but Moss was able to work around the problem. We solicited 3 bids. One was considerably higher, and the other was slightly less than the Moss bid. We went with Moss due to the design and designer, a detailed list of the work to be performed, literature provided, website photos of previous work, and good reviews. The old bathroom was completely gutted and new drywall and sub-flooring had to be installed in places. This created considerable fine dust that was difficult to contain in the bathroom. Moss tried to minimize the dust using plastic sheets over doorways but it spread throughout the house via the HAVC duct work. Moss was responsive to changes as the project proceeded and price adjustments were made along the way. We were provided a project book that listed each item to be completed as part of the contract along with "allowances" for purchase of items. This provided a way of tracking work progress and ensured that there were no misunderstandings. Moss was flexible, allowing us to purchase some items that they installed for us and other items they purchased and installed from their own suppliers. Since we are retired we had the time to research various options and suppliers to get the best price and then purchase and supply the item to Moss. Project work was not continuous as the schedule depended upon availability of workmen of different skills; plumbing, electrical, drywall, carpentry, etc. so occasionally workmen arrived on short notice and there were days when no work was done. They provided a lock box so they could come and go as needed when we were not home. Moss took care of all the required permits and county inspections. Alex, the overall project leader, came by occasionally to check on the work and see if we had any questions or issues. The fact that he wasn't there frequently was a concern at first but we soon realized that his crews were very skilled and knowledgeable and minimal oversight was needed. He was always available by phone. At the project conclusion, Alex came by and made a short "punch list" of items that needed some final attention. Those were taken care of in a couple days and a final cleaning was done. We were very happy with the results that exceeded our expectations.

I am entirely thrilled with the results. Michael Pico did the work and he took great care with all details and the results are fantastic. He was very thorough and professional. I definitely will use Moss again.

Excellent. We had Brad, their electrician. Brad was punctual, came on time, and worked on all our issues.

First off, we solicited estimates from a few bathroom remodelers. We received the "used car salesman" pitch from a few. That is the "if you sign now we will give it to you the special price" tactic. We had to repeatedly ask one guy to leave. Funny thing is that all estimates were pretty much around the same price. That shocked my wife and I because we had no idea how expensive a bathroom remodel can be. Moss was totally no hassle. Our designer met with us to talk, took some measurements, showed us some ideas and then left to crunch the number. She returned the following week with the remodeling packet complete with an itemized cost estimate that showed us exactly where the money was going. No one else did this. They just through out a figure and dropped it by X dollars if we signed right now. Moss gave us 30 days to accept the offer with no pressure. We did exempt after a few weeks. Moss proceeded to set up appointments for us to meet with designers at many locations to pick out materials. That process went smother than expected. The job was done professionally and quickly. They completed the remodel two weeks ahead of schedule but had to wait for Loudoun County inspectors. We will use Moss again for any contracting needs we may have in the future.

Everything went very well. Stan explained each step of the way the extra work that was required to get all the doors to fit. The finished work was perfect.

We recently completed a home addition project which doubled the size of our house. Over the years, I have worked with other contractors on smaller projects in other houses and I have never worked with a finer team of professionals than Moss Building and Design. Everyone we worked with?from the architect to our project manager to their sub-contractors-- provided us with timely updates, met tight deadlines and were extremely prompt and responsive to any questions we had. We especially appreciated their sense of partnership when working with us. From our first meeting with Jason Hampel to our day-to-day dealings with our Project Manager, Matt Alspaugh, we never once wished we had picked another contractor. We now have a beautiful home, the craftsmanship is of the utmost quality and most importantly, we worked with wonderful individuals who truly cared as much about how they worked with us as they did about the quality of the work they provided.

I couldn't be happier with this experience. My husband and I were not quite handy enough to finish the laundry remodel ourselves, so we called Moss. Dave (the handyman) was prompt, professional, and polite, and the work is great. We had already had the plumbing roughed in, the drywall up, and the painting completed, so the remaining tasks were the installation of the counter, cabinets, and sink. We did have a small problem with one of the plumbing fixtures; it was faulty and leaked. When I called the Moss, they even sent another handyman to swap the parts out free of charge!! I would definitely recommend this deal.

I purchased the Handyman for 8 Hours Big Deal and could not have been more pleased. From the excellent coordination and communication with the Service Manager, Greg Gardner to the simply outstanding work done by Dolan Sims -- everything was top notch. I've hired many contractors over the past twenty years and this firm rates in my top two for professionalism, quality workmanship, care taken to protect owner's property surrounding work area and clean up. I will definitely use Moss Home Services again.

Mike was right on time and very excellent with his work and clearly enjoys what he does!

They were so nice and professional. I had asked him to separate out somethings on the proposal but he didn't do that. The price was maybe 4 times what others where quoting for the same work. I am sure they are wonderful just very expensive for some of the more general work that needed to be done.

We had a good experience working with Moss. They were courteous and professional, and performed high quality work. They assigned a manager to our project, which provided us a single point of contact for communication and addressing concerns. As with any construction project, we had a few issues. When we brought them to the attention of the manager, he addressed all of our concerns to our satisfaction. This included working with subcontractors to address some of our concerns. Moss was good about sticking to their original estimate and didn?t haggle over minor adjustments. For example, we did not like the column wraps that we picked out. They installed one of them, and after we decided it was too big for our house, they helped us pick out a more suitable option, which we love. The only area where we would recommend improvement is in more timely responsiveness. It was sometimes difficult to get timely responses from the project manager and some inquiries required reminders to get sufficient answers. We see this as an area that needs improvement. However, we were overall very satisfied with the work that was done and the eventual outcome of all events regarding this home improvement project. We would definitely recommend using Moss Construction and actually plan to use them in the future.
