Dolan arrived on time, reviewed the list I had provided and we discussed my priorities. After agreeing on what would could be done, he began work. When ever he had a question, he asked - did not presume to know what I would like. I did not have all of the items needed to complete the work so he happily visited the local Home Depot for the bits and pieces required to complete the jobs. I do not believe I have met a more polite and considerate young man! He was very knowledgeable, completing all items I had listed and then some. The work area was left tidy and replaced items were removed. All in all, a very pleasant experience I will gladly repeat if I have a need for a handy man in the future.
Description of Work: Handyman services to include carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work: outside faucet replacement, inside faucet installation, shower head installation, electrical outlet replacement, handrail installation and repair, outside light receptacle replacement and realignment of lockset on door to prevent drafts.

Had previously used Moss to do a kitchen remodel, so I was a return customer. Overall I had a wonderful experience. Everyone was professional and pleasant to deal with. The project manager (Bob Keene), who also managed the prior kitchen remodel, is great to work with. It is very easy to get hold of him and he always returned any of my calls. Kristen was also great with the material selections. Would recommend them for any similar work.
Description of Work: Renovation of laundry room (new vinyl floor, new sink and beadboard). Removal of bar in family room and replaced with closet). Closet involved patching of existing hardwood floor. Lastly a complete gut of master bath (w/ double vanity, heated tile floor removed tub and replaced with glass enclosure shower and moved linen closet to location of old shower.

Maria called and explained how the deal worked and we determined that I would need a carpenter and plumber to do the work. She did an excellent job of explaining how they charged so that I knew up front what to expect. On the day scheduled Stan the carpenter arrived right on time at 7:30AM and got right to work on the doors. He was very efficient with his time and did an excellent job doing all of the described work in only 6.5 hours. Frank the plumber arrived as scheduled around noon and completed the most critical plumbing jobs in a timely manner and agreed to come back and work on my sluggish drains later. Both workman were very experienced and explained what they had to do and did quality work. I have some other work to do and will definitely hire Moss Building and Design again and ask for Stan and Frank again.
Description of Work: The carpenter put up 10 bi-fold closet doors and one interior door. He also evaluated a warped door frame, installed a peep hole and shimmed up an exterior door that was misaligned. The plumber installed hot and cold cutoffs and a new bathroom faucet and rebuilt a toilet. He is returning to snake out two drains later.

Maria, the scheduling manager was great. She was prompt, courteous and answered all my questions. The only thing I wish had been better was the wait time to get scheduled and even that was acceptable. I explained what I needed done and Maria suggested the right mix of handyman and electrician and scheduled me for the first available appointment. Both gentlemen where punctual, courteous, professional, and knew exactly what they were doing. When I needed to schedule a follow-on set of repairs (install of another fixture, repair of toilet and fixing the shower valve), Maria got me on the schedule right away and again the right expertise showed up. Very happy with their services and will be using them again in the future.
Description of Work: Worked through a list of handyman repairs including light fixture replacement, lowering of a large chandelier, installation of a safety bar into tile, repair of shelf, replacing a dimmer switch, troubleshooting a shower valve, troubleshooting a sticking toilet handle, fix a clogged garbage disposal, and installing 2 hose reels in brick wall.

I purchased deal but based on what I needed it would be more than a days work. I figured I could pay the difference for the extra hours. I was given a call and an email. I replied to email but no response so I called and got voice mail. We finally contacted a few days later but the provide couldn't guarantee the work could be completed as requested and would require a consultation prior to starting but do to holiday and response to Angie deal they were unable to schedule until after thanksgiving and could not guarantee they would have the material or the time to schedule the work. I didn't understand why we couldn't pencil the project start time as the only thing needed was drywall and tape.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Unfortunately, the installation items listed for your project would have taken more than 8 hours of the handyman deal. It was also necessary that these items receive an in-home estimate prior to the beginning of the job so that we could accurately perform the work. We are sorry our consultation schedule did not meet your needs, but we wish you the best in your home improvements.

He performed the work in just under an hour and it looked great. Best of all, Moss had extended a $100 credit to me for referring my neighbor so the work was free.
Description of Work: The technician replaced a fence post. He performed the work in just under an hour and it looked great. Best of all Moss had extended a $100 credit to me for referring my neighbor so the work was free.
I had a list of items that needed to be completed inside and outside my house. The plumber and electrician were scheduled a week out from my initial call. They were on-time and even called in advance of their arrival. The work was done quickly and without any issues. During the plumbing work, it was noted that my main valve was not shutting off completely; additional work was scheduled and that was handled in the same professional manner. The exterior work was a little more challenging. The exterior handyman quit the day before he was scheduled to start my work. Moss Home Services (in particular Maria and Michelle) did an excellent job finding a replacement. There was a slight delay to the start of the work; however, Maria stayed in contact with me and kept me updated. While the work was being done, I had to be out of town. Maria was thorough in passing along photos, answering questions, and ensuring that I was kept updated on the progress of the work. I would hire Moss Home Services in the future and would recommend them to my neighbors.
Description of Work: Plumbing, electrical, and handyman repairs - repaired mixing valve on shower, replaced main water valve (to include removing and re-installing hot water heater in order to gain access to main valve), repaired electrical switches replaced rotted wood around front door replaced rotted wood around windows replaced rotted wood around garage power washing driveway, stoop, and deck apply clear coat to deck paint metal railing removing rust as needed paint front trim (doors, windows, garage)

I have nothing but good things to say about the work that was done by the entire Moss Team. From the first contact with the owner to working with the kitchen designer, project manager and their crew, it was nothing but professional. The schedule was spelled out to me and with the exception of winter weather stuck to it and completed a huge job in a very short period of time. The quality of the work done was superb and very apparent they took much pride in their work.

I can definitely recommend this contractor. We were replacing a direct-vent gas fireplace. The actual fireplace unit was scheduled to be installed by specialists (not related to Moss), but as we discovered, fireplace technicians only do the fireplace itself. The rest of the job has to be done by someone else. In our case this meant that, first, the mantel had to be removed and the wall opened for access. Once the new fireplace unit was hooked up to the gas line, it had to be properly framed and fixed in place with all the right clearances to pass inspection, and then after inspection new drywall had to be put up and the mantel put back. Well, that was the theory, except as soon as the old fireplace unit was removed, we saw that the foundation of the house had cracked and settled underneath the fire-pad, leaving a two-inch open gap to the outside. No wonder there was a freezing cold draft all winter last year. This had to be fixed before the fireplace could be installed. Supposedly it was a minor job, but see if you can find a masonry contractor to do a minor job on short notice. I phoned around to speak with various companies. Most of them needed a long lead-time before they would even give us an estimate. Some said they had a minimum job cost of $1000. Others just didn't bother to return calls. No interest in finding a solution. Meanwhile we had to cancel the finishing-up job by Moss, because the fireplace hadn't been installed on schedule. When he heard about our problem, Greg (Moss's job coordinator) put me in touch with their masonry subcontractor, who showed up the next day, had a look at the problem, told me how it needed to be fixed, quoted the lowest price I had heard yet and did it 24 hours later, in between other work. Greg did not charge any markup fee for this. Then the fireplace technicians returned and one of them promptly injured himself horribly, having to rush to the emergency room. This meant we had to postpone the finishing-up job again. No problem whatsoever. Not a word of complaint. No "administrative fee" or other extortion. Just a cooperative effort to schedule the last stage of the job in the most efficient way possible. Another thing worth mentioning: to save money we wanted to make sure, if at all possible, to preserve intact the existing marble plates and wooden mantel. The fireplace technician said that in 30 years of putting in fireplaces he estimated a 95% failure rate at this. He said the marble basically ALWAYS breaks when it's pried away. Nope. Jeff (the guy who did the actual work for Moss) paid such care and attention to the job that zero damage was done. When we finally got to the framing job (which the fireplace people had originally been supposed to do), Jeff calmly studied the fireplace installation manual for a few minutes and did the framing in two hours, including clean-up. The inspector actually complimented us on the quality. Well, I see this is turning into a pretty long post. I could go on. There are a number of details I'm leaving out. But what I guess I will just say in summary is, wow. Use these guys for your next home project. If your experience is anything like ours, you'll be grateful.

Moss made it pretty easy to coordinate the handyman for the day - to include prioritizing and estimating the length of time for the projects. Jeff arrived as promised and quickly got to work - he worked efficiently and made no mess. He was able to accomplish a number of other items on the list that we never thought he'd get to. I would highly recommend Jeff and Moss for handyman services.
Description of Work: As part of the Moss referral program, I received a handyman for a day for referring a friend to Moss. Moss sent handyman Jeff Hammond to complete a number of tasks - install a new storm door, fix a sagging door from the garage to the house, repair drywall, replace electrical switches with new switches, dimmers, or timers.

Thank you for your recommendation! We are glad you were able to put your free Handyman for a Day to good use as a thank you for your referral. We appreciate your compliments to our team and hope to work with you again!
Moss came out for an initial quote of a much larger job. The VP and a new sales guy came out to see the house, hear what I wanted done and give me an estimate. The overall impression I got was a positive one, but I had a feeling I wanted to test them out before committing to the larger job (>$20K). I settled a sub-project that was only about $2K. My thought was that if they impressed me on this project, I'd go with them for the larger one. When I made the decision to go with Moss, I met with my sales guy Chris and selected a door. I think I did that back in June because I have a record of my pre-construction meeting on June 17th and I know I purchased the door before that. He set me up with Brandon my project manager and we scheduled the pre-construction meeting. Brandon came to the house, looked at the job and told me that I'd only need a few hours for the work to be completed. He stayed approximately 5 minutes, we discussed the fact that I wanted the door frame and any associated trim to match the existing look and he left. Knowing that the contractor would be there on the 25th and that the front door would have to be open and unlocked, I took off from work. The evening of the 24th, I got a phone call from Brandon (now a full month later) to tell me that the storm door had not come in and wouldn't be in for 3 more weeks. This was frustrating because I had already taken off of work (which essentially meant I had to cram 8 hours into other days) and it was so last minute. I think the company should have been making prep calls ahead of the meeting to ensure the materials would be there. We then rescheduled for 25 August, another day I had to take off of work. On that day, Mike the contractor arrived late. It appeared that the door frame materials that Brandon ordered were incorrect. Instead of ordering replacement wood for the rotting pieces that needed to be replaced, he ordered the decorative trim for around the door. Mike also informed me that he didn't have any other materials to do the work besides the actual door resulting in lost time for him to go to Home Depot. Additionally, the weather was looking ominous so he didn't want to take down the rotten trim only to have to quickly put it back up to protect the house from water damage. He did the work on the inside of the house, replaced one exterior light and then told me he'd need to come back in better weather for the rest. Brandon rescheduled me for a month later in September and I again took off a day from work. This time when Mike came, the weather was good and he got right to work. I felt comfortable enough with the contractor to be in my home and had significant pressure from work not to be gone another day, so I left Mike to complete the work. When I arrived home, the work was not yet complete. However, Mike had left a voicemail at my office that I heard the next morning. He came back the next day and completed the work. The debris remained at my house for another month. It took one phone call and two emails to have it picked up and (not surprisingly) I got my final invoice the next day. Overall the work was done pretty well by Mike. There are some mistakes. The storm door and cement step are uneven and Mike didn't install the sweeper thing on the bottom of the door to prevent water/bugs from getting in between the doors when shut. The door handle on the storm door wasn't actually screwed in so the third day we used the door, the handle just popped off. The door is also just installed just crooked enough that it gets stuck depending on the weather. Nothing is a show stopper here and I ended up with a working door and lights which is what I really cared about. However, the real issue I have is with the poor communication on the part of the project manager Brandon and his senior management. I think communication is the most important part of customer service and it was just really lacking. At the end of my project I attempted to call Moss to express some concerns I had. I understood that Brandon was covering for some other project managers based on what Mike told me. I know what that's like so I wanted to relay to his management that perhaps he really needed some extra support. They never called me back either despite having an admin or office manager call me to tell me I'd get a call the following day. In general, if I hire you to do work I expect you to communicate openly and be transparent. I also expect you to plan ahead because that's what I'm paying for. I spoke openly with Brandon and his colleagues at Moss about how my preferred method of contact was email because of the number of meetings I attend during the day. They repeatedly called my cell phone when I rarely have it on me and used "well I called" as an excuse to the fact that they were canceling things last minute. A few of my calls/emails went unanswered, which I think is pretty scary considering one of them was to ensure the contractor had gotten the key to my house to be able to get in and finish the work. Based on this alone I would not use them again.. and it's a shame because I think communication is so much easier than installing a storm door.
Description of Work: I hired Moss to install a new storm door for my house and replace 2 exterior lights. The wood frame around the doorway to which the door had to attach had rotted from water getting in and settling so the frame had to be replaced. The regular door also needed weather stripping. While they were there, I also contracted them to patch some drywall on a ceiling that had previous water damage.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We hope to work with you again.

I purchased 8 hours of work for $499. I intended to use it to have 3 ceiling fans installed. I had gotten estimates from other companies who were going to charge $300 per fan installed. Maria scheduled and rescheduled this according to our timeframe. She kept me updated via e-mail (my preferred method of contact) with all details and reminded me ahead of time. She was very clear about the fact that we would be invoiced separately for any supplies needed, but also said we could provide anything we might need. Greg arrived on time, was very professional, explained what he needed to do, made helpful suggestions. He completed the work within the 8 hours and offered to do other things. We had him look at problems we had been experiencing with 2 other ceiling fans and he took care of them too. We would definitely recommend Moss and will definitely use them again. In talking with my co-workers, several of them had also used Moss and were also happy.

We sincerely appreciate your recommendation! Our $499 deal was intended to help you get your home improvement items completed in a timely manner. We are so glad we were able to help with your home improvement and look forward to working with you again!
I purchased a deal on Angie's List for 8 hours of professional services (1 service provider for up to 8 hours, or 2 providers for 4 hours each) for $499. Because all of the work that needed to be done was in my very small powder room, Moss assigned a single handyman (Dolan) to perform everything. Dolan arrived on time and got right to work getting everything prepped to paint, including removing the old light fixture and mirror. He applied two coats of paint, took a short lunch break, and then installed the new light fixture and mirror, and then did some patch work and painting on the wall where the old mirror had been anchored. He also did paint touch-ups on the crown molding. Finally, he installed two new floating shelves. My powder room was literally transformed in just a few hours, and Dolan accomplished it all with 45 minutes to spare. He checked with me on issues like the placement of the light fixture and the shelves, and was meticulous in cleaning up when the work was completed. I absolutely will use Moss again for handyman services, and already have a couple more projects for which I plan to use them in the near future.
We are so happy with the results of your project! Our deal was created to help with your home improvements with quality and timeliness in mind. We look forward to working with you and hope you are enjoying your new powder room!
The contractor arrived exactly on time, and the job took exactly the amount of time they expected. The contractor was excellent and very easy to work with. Would definately hire again. Thank you!

A representative of the company called in advance to get an idea of the scope of the services required. I was informed that what was required was not what the deal was meant for. After successfully completing several smaller projects for me, and seeing the quality of work and professionalism of the team, I am now a repeat customer with Moss Building and Design, and hired them to build a full bathroom in my basement. From my first interactions with Camille Delew, the sales and design consultant who negotiated the details and outlined the design, through my final interaction with Marty Fletcher, the project manager, who conducted the final review, the Moss team set themselves apart through seamless support. Valerie Irons, a customer care manager, met with me to walk me through the design process, the unique project management tool (love it!), and offered whatever level of support I needed to make material selections. Valerie was my central point of contact through out the project. I don't know if she was supposed to be, or whether I was supposed to go through Marty as the project manager, but it didn't matter. Whoever I reached out to, they coordinated the answer/solution and kept each other in the loop. I appreciated that. The build team did a great job. Elwood and Jamey became like extended family, respectful of my home, aware of my pets, and diligent in the build. They did the yeoman's share of the work and left my home cleaner than when they started! Kevin and Frank were expert craftsman wiring for new light fixtures and electrical circuits, and all the hidden plumbing work that make civilization civilized. I would hire Moss in a heartbeat to do another build.

After 4 weeks a contractor from Moss came out, took pictures and told me that the Angie's list coupon can not be used for the drywall repair. (Hairline cracks everywhere). I ask for a fix price for that and for the Bathroom remodeling. Never heard from them again. Waste of my time. I have since then another company out (also from Angie's list), gave a fix price and will start in November. I will give a review with them as well. So far, perfect communication.
