M.C. Fence and Deck

All through the process M.C. Fence and Deck was very professional and responsive. I obtained three quotes from different businesses, based on my providing the measurements. M.C. Fence actually came out to measure for themselves, and found that I had measured incorrectly (the gates were longer than what I had measured). As their price was very similar to the other two quotes I had received, and they came out and made the correct measurements, I decided to work with them. There was a delay of a couple of weeks because the gates themselves were backordered, but as soon as they came in M.C. Fence was out to install them. They did a great job and I am very pleased with the results.

I thought they were great and everything they did was perfect.

The lumber arrived the afternoon of 4/16/2013. They unloaded it in my driveway to that there would be no damage to my side lawn. The four-man crew arrived at 0830 on 4/17/2013 and started to work immediately. They first removed the old fencing and placed it in their haul-away truck. The next step was to dig up the old fence posts and put them in the truck. The crew then laid out the new post for my 216 feet of fencing. After they made sure that the layout was right, two men started digging the new holes. The posts were set in about 2 or 2.5 feet and cemented in with sacrete. While the posts were setting they cut and laid out all of the support rails. By the time this was done the first posts were set and construction could begin. While one man installed the rails, two others started laying out all of the other parts to the fence. The fourth man was constantly cleaning up the area so that debris never built up. The fence was built relatively quickly using their method. The last thing they did was to build and install two gates. One gate was 48 inches wide and one was 60 inches wide. They both had curved tops that actually dressed up the appearance of the fence even more than the lattice. The gates were supported on 6X6 posts so that they will not eventually droop. The whole job from start to final clean up took 11 hours. During this time there was never "no work" going on. The crew staggered breaks and lunch so someone was always working. Shane Boyle, project supervisor, came by every couple of hours to make sure everything was going well and I was happy. Mike Colwell, President of the company, came by also to make sure everything was up to my expectation. I was so impressed with the workmanship and professionalism that I have contracted M.C. Fencing and Decking to build a new deck.

Overall very happy with MC Fence and would use / recommend them. Upon starting work, there were several challenges with my property which they were able to overcome. Issue 1, difficultly finding the pin in one corner of the property. They searched for a while but were eventually able to locate it after calling a manager on-site with a metal detector. Issue 2, neighbor's fence bult a couple feet into my property (not identified originally). After discussing with my neighbor, MC Fence removed this small section of fence, re-supporting it which allowed them to build the fence straight and closer to the property line. Issue 3, a large stump hidden under ivy was not discovered until the fence was being put up. Fortunately KC had a stump grinding contact who was able to come out early the next day, so the project could be completed. My only contention in the end was that I was told a foreman would meet me at 8 am Thursday morning when the project was scheduled to start. This was so I'd be able to walk the property then promptly leave for work. They didn't arrive until about 2 pm that day, which forced me to take the entire day off of work. I understand the realities of the business, but it would have been nice if I had received a courtesy call letting me know they would be there much later in the day. Anyways, overall I think MC Fence dealt with some adversity with my property and were able to successfully overcome these challenges. I've very happy with the beautiful fence that encloses the backyard. (which my dog and two boys can now be contained within) I've already received a compliment from one of my neighbors stating "beautiful fence, very well-thought out!"

All communications with the company were excellent, they returned calls and emails immediately and came out to give me an estimate at a time that was convenient for me. When Mike came out to give the estimate, he was right on time and made suggestions to help me decide on the type of fence. When it was time to build the fence the crew got to work right away and in no time the fence was up. They were extremely efficient, professional and experienced. I highly recommend them and would use them again for fence or deck needs.

Excellent service. This is a small family business. I met father, son, and son-in-law. Very pleasant people, focused on quality and customer satisfaction. The fence was installed the day after several inches of snow, so it was a muddy mucky mess in the back yard. But when finished every rock dug up to sink the post holes and every clump of mud was gone, hauled off. Then Mike came by to re-inspect and make sure all was to my satisfaction. And it was. This is a nice family, with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.

Before we settled on our new home, Mike met me at the site. He measured and gave me a written estimate with all of the details that were required for our home owners association. We had several other estimates done as well and decided to go with MCFence & Deck, based on their credentials, materials used and price. Once approved by the homeowners association, we agreed on a date of installation. His crew completed the job in the time frame given to us. They cleaned up and took all of the trash and left us a beautiful fence!

The work crew arrived five hours later than what they promised, but they were in communication with me about the delay throughout the morning. When the crew arrived, they completed the job in two and a half hours and did excellent work. The fence is beautiful, the gate works smoothly, and none of our landscaping was harmed in the process. I am completely pleased and would recommend MC Fence and Deck to anyone.

This is one of the more professional and conscientious contractors I've worked with in the area. They were prompt, courteous and unambiguous about their pricing and services. The whole process was pretty seamless for us; they took care of the details like verifying the property boundary and having the utilities marked. The work was done efficiently and the quality is exceptional. Also, the price was very competitive.

We couldn't be happier with the fence. The materials showed up the day prior. The supervisor arrived within the time specified to get the crew started, and within five hours, the crew had installed over 250' of fence with two gates built on site. Because of the cold, they were unable to stain the fence, but will be back to do that. The workmen left the yard clean, and the fence is solid and looks beautiful. The neighbors have given us compliments on the fence. We are having a deck built and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

I used an Angie's List coupon for this service and they also gave a 10-percent discount for Angie's List members. They were fantastic; outstanding. This company was responsive and called me right back when I called them and asked for an estimate. They came quickly to do the estimate and then had a crew out here most of the day replacing old chain link fence and two segments of wooden fence and gates. The new fencing looked really nice. They also rolled up some old chain link fence that I did not need any longer. They did a fantastic job and had to cut some hedges back a little to get the fencing in. They cleaned up everything and took it away. They are going to come back and treat my deck at a later time. I thought their price was reasonable.

Our fence installation proved to be a very complicated one thanks to the PWC zoning office. KC, Mike, and the installation crew were very professional in handling our unique situation as they'd never encountered the issues we faced. Although we were very uneasy with the initial fence design due to the cumbersome approval contingencies of the zoining office, the fence turned our wonderful. We're very pleased with the end product and would recommend the MC Fence and Deck company to anyone inquiring about those types of services.

Their service from top to bottom was excellent. The product is great and every one of their employees was professional, courteous and responsive to our needs. We rec'd an estimate from another fence company that told us to go get a survey of our property, arrange to have shrubs and foliage either removed or trimmed to prepare for installation and then they would (for almost twice the price) install the fence. MC, was able to determine property lines from our plat and the buried pins with 100% accuracy, trimmed any shrubs/bushes/trees or tied them up if they could to minimize trimming and installed the fence all on the same day. They came on time, worked very hard and cleaned up very well after installation was complete. I would highly recommend this company again without hesitation;. If they had an A+ rating, this company would get it from us.

We rate our overall experience with MC Deck and Fence as highly satisfied. MC Deck and Fence provided us with accurate estimates and they were extremely friendly and courteous during the entire process, from initial estimate to project completion, and afterwards. They exceeded our needs and the project looks like a million. Our neighbors stated that we have set the bar for our new housing area in Ashburn, Va. As most families concerns go, costs are among one of them, ours were the same. We were extremely cost conscious because we just moved into a new house but wanted to add a deck immediately so that we could focus on patio and landscaping in the spring. Matt was able to meet with us several times and listen to our grand scheme for future projects and how we wanted to incorporate a deck into those plans. After several revisions, we agreed upon a design that fit our needs and fell within our desired cash outlay. The deck is a hybrid consisting of pressure treated pine decking, aluminum balusters, vinyl railing, 8 foot vinyl arbor, and 2 hanging plant trellis on two corners. The lighting is Trex lighting with auto and programmable lights and day/night sensor. The exterior is sheathed in Trex panels. The neighbors commented that this deck looks like it is part of the house, neither too big nor too small, it looks simply amazing. The team also brought my 6 foot wide grill to the top of the deck and placed into the grill cutout area, I did not request that they do that, they offered. That is exceptional customer service. Yes, we have set the bar in our new neighborhood with the quality and craftsmanship, and friendly customer service offered and provided by MC Deck and Fence. We cannot thank MC Deck and Fence enough for providing us with such a high quality product and one that others, even those with composite decks, like as well. Thank you! The quality of the fence is wonderful, it looks beautiful and was definitely a good product, however they damaged our sprinkler lines and then denied it despite photographs and irrefutable evidence.

We contacted MC Fence and Deck through Angie's list after Hurricane Sandy rolled through the area and knocked a tree down on our fence (and my car). They gave us several different options on the replacement - from just fixing the part damaged from the storm, or the complete replacement. After discussing the options with them, we opted to go with the complete replacement. We received quotes from a number of other folks, and MC Fence and Deck was very reasonable, and the strong reviews others from Angie's list had given were taken into consideration. We worked closely with them through our home owners association review process. They were great in getting us all of the pertinent information to get the fencing approved. They had the materials dropped off the morning before, and were at our home promptly at 8:00 AM. They tore the old fence down, and put the new fence up and completed by 2:00 PM. They completely cleaned up after themselves and hauled the old fencing away. A+, 10/10, whatever scale you want to use they are at the top. Already have asked Mike to give us a quote on replacing our deck. These guys are the best, and I can't recommend them highly enough.

The Colwell family were wonderful to work with: everything was done promptly and professionally and the fence looks great! Our estimate was done immediately, all my follow up questions were answered right away by phone and email, and they were able to put the fence up two days after our HOA approval came. The team worked quickly and left the work site clean and tidy when they left. Great job! I would recommend this family owned company to everyone!

MC Fence was very quick to respond -- they responded within an hour of submitting a request for quote on their website -- and were extremely professional from the first interaction. Mike, the owner, was able to schedule a Saturday appointment to measure the fence and provide an estimate, which was a very nice surprise. Mike was prompt and professional throughout. He went over our requirements and offered helpful suggestions to design the fence in a way that would meet those requirements while eliminating unnecessary costs. Mike clearly knows his business extremely well, which gave us confidence that we would get a quality fence. After totaling the costs of the various aspects of our fence, Mike was able to give us a quote on the spot. I had a price in mind and Mike's quote was significantly lower. We had been planning to have another fence company provide a quote, but based on the other company's lack of responsiveness, Mike's professionalism, and the quote, we decided to accept Mike's quote on the spot. Mike provided an install date -- the Thursday (5 days) after the initial meeting -- and time at the same time as the quote. Mike stated that the lumber would be delivered the day before and that the install would be done the following day. On the day of the install, the crew did not show at the specified time. However, Mike called shortly after the time they were supposed to arrive to apologize and provide a new time. He said that despite the delayed arrival, the fence would still be completed in one day. While this could have detracted from this review, Mike handled the situation extremely well. One of the things that Mike said set his company apart from other fencing companies is that there is always a supervisor on site. When the crew arrived, I went to see if I could find the supervisor to ask if the crew needed anything from me. Unfortunately, due to a language barrier, I couldn't find out if there was a supervisor there. I've heard horror stories from friends and family about home improvement projects where the contractor sits around, wastes time, or does a poor job. I'm pleased to say that we had none of these problems with MC Fence. The crew was obviously very skilled, professional, and efficient. They demolished the old fence more quickly than I thought possible and started building the new fence. The entire project took about 5 hours. The final product looks awesome. Mike stopped by at the end of the day to inspect the fence and make sure that it met his standards -- to include clean-up. He also offered helpful suggestions for maintaining the fence. Overall, we're extremely satisfied with both the service and the end product we received. We're thinking of having more fence and deck work done this spring or summer. If we decide to go forward, I'll be calling MC Fence and Deck.

The overall experience was good, they even could handle a woman changing her mind a few times. The price was in line with the other quotes I received. The install was done in a timely manner. My email questions were answered. It's all good!

I had left a message requesting for an estimate and the office had called me back right away. Matt (project lead) came out right away to perform an estimate (I think it was about 2 days after we called the company) on a new fence and deck for our townhouse. He spent his time here andactually listened to us, which was a new experience. We had two other companies come out to perform an estimate and they were more concerned with telling us their achievements and how to higher our costs then to listen to us. Matt told us exactly how our current deck (approx. 20 years old) was out of code and explained how the deck crew was going to build the new deck to code. He worked with us to design the deck (placement of stairs and other options). Although MC Fence and Deck was not the cheapest, we decided to go with them because they focused on decks/fences (not a construction/building company) and they listened to us (that was a major factor for us. The deck and fence turned out gorgeous. The fence and deck crew (two man teams) were great. The fence took one day to be torn down and built. The deck took about 6 days. We were originally told it was going to take 2.5 days, but the crew did find some major issues with the original deck that they had to mitigate (long story short, the old deck was mounted to cardboard behind the siding of the house, versus blocking/wood braces). The deck crew (Mario and Miquel) did a great job and it was obvious that they knew what they were doing. There were a lot of finishing touches that they made that we did not expected, such as the detail put into the railing on the stairs. Matt and/or Mike (owner) did stop by often to check in on the project. The only issue we encountered with this company is that there can be a bit of a communication challenge. Sometimes we had discussed things with the management office (Mike and Matt) that would not always trickle down to the crew. There also seemed to be a communication challenge even within the management team. My suggestion: after the estimate is completed, communicate directly with Mike. In the end, however, all issues were resolved and the finished product is great.

MC Fence and Deck met all of our expectations and more. Matt was very involved in overseeing the project from start to finish. His crew was punctual, did the work correctly (finished in one day!) and clean up was meticulous. Matt is an honest and fair contractor and it was a pleasure working with him. We will definitely be contacting MC Fence and Deck for our fence maintenance and future projects!

The crew did a fabulous job. The grading of the property line varied and Matt and his team provided on-site suggestions to make the final project look appealing and professional. We were very pleased with the results. Prior to the start, we reviewed the project several times before finalizing, but once we agreed to a final design, Matt provided a compettive price and ordered the material, which was delivered the day before the fence was scheduled to be built. We are very satisfied with the end results.
