M.C. Fence and Deck

MC Fence did a great job! Their estimator came out and gave me a fair price on my fence and were able to install it the very next week! The crew and project manager were very professional and courteous! I would highly recommend them to my family and friends!!

Review from December 6th: I requested someone from the MC Fence to come out and give me a quote to perform the above work. My wife and I were extremely happy to have met Billy whom was very knowledgeable and didn't pressure us or rush us into anything. After he gave us his quote and displayed to us his prior work we decided to sign the contract immediately so work could be performed soon. He indicated work would be done within a week and someone from the office would call me that day to set up payment and a date for installation. After I hadn't heard back from the office within a day I decided to call myself to try and give them their first payment and make sure they would be able to start work the following week. Payment was made and I was told someone would be stopping by beforehand to mark the ground for utilities. I was also told a project manager would reach out to me to confirm the date of installation and give me a time frame for arrival (I was told I would just need to be there for the start of work for about 15 minutes to confirm everything). The day before work was scheduled to start my wife was surprised to have a construction supply company knocking on her door asking to drop off the materials. We had no idea this person was coming and a head's up would have been nice. I called the office again to confirm they would be there the next day to start work and see what time they were going to arrive. I was told the project manager would call me within an hour and let me know when he would be at my house (never occurred). The next day I called the office back again to see when they were going to arrive (I was told I only needed to be there for the first 15 minutes of work, but this is pointless if I need to wait all day for them to arrive). I was told they would be there in the afternoon. They arrived in the afternoon and installed the fence. When I came home I was told by the crew that they didn't have the post caps and that they would be by the next day to install them. The next day I received a call asking for the final payment although the caps had not been installed yet. I told them I wanted my caps installed. I was told they would be back the next day to install them. After about 5 days without post caps installed I called them back again to ask the status. They returned the next day and installed them. They did a horrible job installing them as they were not level because the tops of the posts were not cut level. No effort was put into making the job look good at the end. When I called to complain and sent an email with photos showing the poor work I was told they would be out the next day to fix the work. The workers came back a third time and tried to fix the caps. They only cut two of the fence posts to try and make them level, but did a horrible job. When I tried to point out how they were sideways I was given an excuse (in Spanish that I didn't understand) as to why they had to be that way. They also never turned the post caps 90 degrees as requested so the screws wouldn't face directly out. After the workers left I decided to write a negative review on Angie?s List. Within a few days I was contacted by one of the owners (KC) and he told me they hate getting negative reviews and would return to fix the project and would offer to stain my fence for free. Because of their generosity I decided to accept that offer. They returned and fixed the post caps. A short while later the stain color was chosen and workers returned to stain the fence. These painters were extremely rude to my wife and did a horrible job staining the fence. I took it upon myself to contact the company to advise them of what went wrong. Mike, the president, came out and took a look at the fence and said the stain job was horrible and they offered to redo the entire fence at no cost. I again took the company up on this offer. In a matter of weeks I had a new fence installed. Again though, horrible painters were sent out to stain the fence. They arrived extremely late (painters said it was a long drive from the border of West Virginia and they needed to attend to a dead cow on their farm before going to work). They also did a horrible job painting the fence. They used ALL of a 5 gallon bucket to stain 40 feet of fence. I had pools of stain sitting on top of the cross-beams that were never cleaned up. They sprayed stain all over the hinges and handles and when I asked them to clean everything up they didn?t. The stain we chose to use was a transparent stain (you should be able to see the grain of the wood). They applied so much so quickly there are portions of the fence that look like multiple coats of paint were put on it. The job was sloppy and I wish I had never had this company stain my fence. I expect they rushed the painting job so that they wouldn?t be stuck in traffic on their return trip to the border of West Virginia since they arrived so late. This is the second time MC Fence has replaced the entire fence and the seventh time they have come out to get the job done correctly. I have given up with them at this point and I have taken it upon myself to go and purchase new hinges and handles for the fence to replace the ones the painters ruined. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to fix the wood that is ruined by the amount of stain applied. Lastly, since I have had so many issues in the beginning you would think someone from management would have called me to see how the project turned out. It has been over a month and I haven?t heard a word. Also, midway through the project I told them I was looking to have them do further work at my house ($7000) as incentive for them to fix their current work. They obviously didn't take it seriously and have lost my future business. Update: The day after posting the above review I received a voicemail from Vice President KC. In the voicemail KC stated that my Angie?s List review comments were an ?intentional tort? and that he already discussed my review with a lawyer. He went on to state that he hoped to resolve this ?without legal action? but he is prepared to go that direction. Shortly after receiving this voicemail I received a similarly worded e-mail from KC stating that I did not contact the company before posting this review to tell them they did poor work. He also went on again to note my comments were done with the intention to harm his company. Since he was talking about taking legal action if I did not remove my review I refused to talk to him outside of a documented format such as email. In about 8 e-mails to each other I advised him of the facts of what occurred during my fence installation process and that it was his company?s fault the work was poor. In the last e-mail to me KC stated that he was going to seek ?litigation for damages.? I haven?t heard back from his company since then. According to the Angie?s List customer service department, MC Fence and Deck posted a response to my review on December 16, 2013 that stated the stain job was ?awful.? They also indicated that they ?are replacing the fence and refunding? my money. Neither of these things has occurred nor have I been contacted to arrange for these to occur and it has been approximately two months since they made this statement. I would also like to note that I advised the company on December 7th that they are not allowed on my property again. I don?t know how they plan to replace my fence without permission to enter my property. Throughout this process KC appear to be mad at me with the outcome of this project instead of getting mad at his employees for the work that they did (or didn?t do). Had anyone from his company ever asked me what I thought I would have told them but nobody ever asked. I have found it incomprehensible that a company would threaten and bully a customer with legal action after they did poor work and even admitted to it.

I first contacted MC Fence through their website and did not get a response after 3 days so I called and made an appointment for an estimate. The appointment was made for the end of the week. Billy arrived on time and was both professional and friendly. I asked him if he could also have a look at our deck which need some work. He took some measurement of both fence and deck and explained that the fence it self was In good condition and that the posts were not cemented when the fence was originally constructed therefore this caused the leaning of the fence and the gate. He explained what needed to be done to correct the fence, which included taking the fence apart, install new posts with cement and installing the correct size posts for the gate. After receiving the estimate a couple of day later, I called and made an appointment for the following week MC Fence called the day before to let us know that they would arrive around 1:30 in the afternoon. I was a little concerned that there would be enough time to do the job and was assured that the job would only take a couple of hours. On the day, my husband was home and received a call to say the materials did not arrive on time and were able to be there the following morning. The day of the job the team arrived on time with all materials and got to work. My husband was rather impressed with how quickly they got to work cutting down the fence, digging through what is a clay/rock ground to install the new posts. Also, to our surprise building a new gate right before his eyes. The cost of the fence included the Angie's list discount and I suppose the new gate as mentioned as a coupon. The fence is now sturdy and looks great! I would so recommend M C Fence and Deck and look forward to using them again on our deck in the near future. Thank you for a great experience.

I set up appointment with a friendly representative for an estimate. I was called the day before to confirm the estimate appointment. The estimator was very courteous and informative. He advised me that our gate with the rotted/squirrel chewed posts was still very sturdy and sound and would not need to be replaced. Two other companies had told me that it was not worth saving. When the crew arrived, they were friendly and worked steadily, not taking breaks. They cleaned up perfectly in our yard and in our neighbors'. Part of the job was replacement of posts on property common to us and a neighbor behind us. Overall, excellent work. We have already recommended them to others and will call them in the future if we need additional fence repairs. We also felt that the price was very fair.

Great service. We just bought a house that has an older fence and deck that required some updates/upgrades for additional safety and to accommodate ownership of a small pet. We solicited estimates from a handful of places that do deck and fence work, but we found that most of the other companies seemed annoyed/unhelpful if you weren't asking them to put in a full deck or fence (either they just didn't provide an estimate or they just priced themselves too high so as to say 'you may as well be putting in a new deck and fence'). The estimator that came out was super cool and professional, and he provided a number of solutions/options to a few issues we needed solved without pressuring us one way or the other (which I appreciated). They were able to have a crew out to our house within a of couple days of sending the estimate and the crew was able to start/complete the job without me present (some folks may cringe at that, but I was THAT comfortable with their competence that I wasn't worried about having to take time off work to oversee them). They did a great job, and would highly recommend their services to anyone requiring deck and/or fence work.

Overall, this experience was very good. They did not initially install the patio correctly, it was short about 18 inches, but they made it right and installed a border around the patio, at no charge to me. The fence was also done very well - for the amount of money that I spent on the overall job, I resented paying extra for them to stain the fence, and the person who stained it did not follow MC Fence's direction to wait for my approval of the color, but overall, I'm pleased with the result. They were extremely responsive and professional, and I would recommend them and use them again.

Great company. They came right out and gave us an estimate. They did a wonderful job and left the yard clean when they were finished. They used a better grade of wood and removed a large amount of brush and haul it away before they could begin work. Not only was the work and quality of fence materials better than the other companies we got estimates from, but the other companies wanted several hundred dollars to remove and haul away the brush. We will confidently recommend them to neighbors and friends.

We are extremely happy with the fence install and the whole process working with MC Fence and Deck. Everyone from their front office to their sales people and their install staff were completely professional throughout the whole process. They were extremely proactive and responsive and even checked in with me several times to notify me of the timing of the install and made sure I was comfortable with everything that was about it happen on the day of the install. Speaking of which, they installed 290ft of fence all in one day. It is solid, sturdy and has a quality feel. They did a great job clearing the underbrush where it was needed and worked to identify the best way to position around a couple of large trees so that the finished product looked its best. At the end of the day they cleaned everything up and you wouldn't haven't even known they were there except that there was now a great looking fence in place. They obviously take pride in their work and I would highly recommend MC Fence and Deck.

It's hard to find dependable, reliable, hard working companies these days. They were great and awesome and customer service was above and beyond! HIGHLY recommend them and would use them again if the time comes!

KC Colwell came out the morning of September 11th and accessed the job. We signed the contract onsite. Installation was set for September 17th. The lumber arrived the evening prior to the installation. The next morning the crew arrived and began installing the new fencing and gates. That afternoon Paul arrived with his helper and power-washed the existing fencing. We were very pleased with the outcome of the power-washing. Our next door neighbor even commented on how well the existing fencing looked after having been power-washed. The puppy-proofing didn't exactly resemble what we had envisioned. I called the office the following morning and spoke with Melissa. Mike Colwell came out on September 20th to inspect what had been done. A crew came out on September 24th, added 1 x 6 lumber and re-positioned the existing. The outcome is perfect! Our experience with Mike and his staff has been great. We look forward to working with MC Fence and Deck in the near future on the design and installation of our new sun porch and patio. You guys are great!

Very professional. Hardworking. Supervisor came out twice on the day of construction. Once to ensure the workers were properly installing the fence and once to ensure we were happy with the final product.

My husband and I needed to repair our leaning fence, so I called to set up an appointment for an estimate. The lady I talked to seemed busy and could not find a pen. But our appointment was set. I had taken a day off from work to be there for the estimate, but they never showed up. I called to see where they were but they didn't even have me in their system. I knew that was the company I called. I believe it could have been the owner that answered and he was very apologetic and he sounded very professional. At this point, I had already had an estimate from another fence company. I decided to give MC Fence and Deck another chance. He set up an appointment for that following Monday. My husband met someone from the company that Monday and liked what he heard regarding how they were going to repair the fence, It was more than what the other company was going to charge but MC Fence was more thorough to us. We soon made an appointment-they did it in a week and they were quick. I believe they showed up early morning. We love the end product. Just comes to show you that some people/companies deserve a second chance. I would recommend them because they are quick, fair, and knowledgeable.

The work started when promised, and though it took 2 days to complete rather than 1 day as promised, we are quite pleased. We are truly impressed with the workmanship and quality of our new fence. Manuel and his helper were superior workers and everyone who has seen the fence is impressed. Their ability to dig holes in our Virginia clay soil using only hand tools was inspirational. They arrived early and worked late, and nearly completed the job in one day. All the posts are straight and solid, there are no warped boards, the gate fitment is good, and they did a fine job of the finishing work, tacking down the wire mesh and installing post caps. The cedar looks wonderful and the beauty and forecast durability seem to be worth the increased cost. We obtained 3 written estimates before deciding on MC Fence. Theirs was the lowest price. I contacted MC Fence and Deck to request a bid to replace my back fence and 2 days later someone was there. (I had contacted another company from Angie's List and it took them several days to schedule the estimate.) MC's rep. was about 15 minutes late, but had the courtesy to call and let me know (stuck in traffic and, having just been in that traffic myself, I could understand!). About 20 minutes later, after hearing what I wanted and taking measurements, I had my estimate. WOW! This estimate was for exactly what I wanted done, nothing more and half the estimated price from the other company (who wanted to do more work than I wanted/needed). Plus, MC would repair the steps for no additional charge (the other guys wanted $450)! But what got MC a check right then was when the rep said they would be out the next Wednesday (other guys? a minimum of 2 weeks to be scheduled!). Wednesday arrived, and it was rainy. I thought, nope, the weather won't let them work today...well, I was wrong! The crew (2 nice young men) at 4 pm and got right to work. (The rain was almost gone and it wasn't that hard to begin with.) By 6:30 I had a new fence, repaired steps and a nice end to a yucky day. The team did a great job. No wasted time or effort. When they left, the area was cleaner than when the arrived. I am very impressed! MC Fence and Deck is a very professional company with wonderful people. If you need a fence, a deck, anything, call MC Fence and Deck. You WILL be pleased. I will definitely have these guys as my first choice!

Very easy to work with this company. They did an outstanding job of removing a very old split-rail fence and replacing with a new one. Cedar gates look very nice. KC and everyone at the company was a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend and am planning on using them for some additional deck work I need done.

They provided a quote that was reasonable. However some of the items that were required by local building code were not included in the quote and the financing options made this deck more expensive.

I am very thankful that MC decking fixed a very serious issue with my existing deck. The existing deck is over 700 square feet with two tiers. Part of the second tier is covered and screened in, with an octagon shaped room, witch hat ceiling, and a fireplace. Over the July 4th weekend I was doing some work under the deck when I noticed that several of the posts were severely warped and several others had large cracks in them. I called several decking companies in the local area and had little success having anyone come out to the house to look at the issue. I made an appointment with MC Decking and KC came out to the house right on the scheduled time. I had hoped that only 3 of the posts would have to be replaced but after inspecting the deck with KC and putting a level on it, it was clear that all 14 posts had to be changed out. The cause of the warped posts had to do with my builder using grade 2 posts that were probably wet when they were installed, and they used the wrong attachment hardware to connect the posts at the top where they meet the band joists holding up the second floor. The warping was so bad, the second floor had sagged over 1.5 inches at the outer edge - clearly a disaster in the making. Within a few days after signing the contract, MC had a crew on site replacing all the posts with grade 1 lumber and used bolts and post connectors to properly attach the new posts. The also jacked up the second floor structure to get the floor as close to level as possible without damaging the roof and other connection points to the main house structure. This work required a very skilled company - MC was clearly the right choice. While the post replacement work was going on, we decided to go forward with a plan to add on to another portion of the existing second tier deck that is not covered but that tied into the screened in portion. The new extension is about 300 square feet and the existing uncovered decking surface was about 150 square feet. To attach the new decking to the house, MC had to cut through the stone veneer so that they could attached the new ledger board. They also had to make very clean cuts between the screened in decking the uncovered decking to remove the old boards and integrate the new deck boards. The stone masons did a great job cutting straight lines into the veneer. The deck crew is very skilled and worked very hard. The wood quality is top grade and the workmanship is outstanding. The crew did a great job cleaning up during the construction and once the project was completed. I really liked being able to reach a person instead of an answering machine when I called with questions or items that I wanted to ensure were addressed. Melissa did a great job making sure these items were quickly relayed to the crew. We are very happy with the new deck and highly recommend this company.

Simply put, it all went perfectly. We had used them for a fence installation earlier this summer and were so pleased with the quality of their work that we had them do our deck "face lift". Our deck was installed originally in 1993. Honestly, Mario and his crew are excellent craftsmen. They reinforced the boards under the deck. They expertly laid the new C-Select boarding and the deck looks brand new. They remade the 2 steps on either side of the deck and the new steps are much improved. Communication was exceptional. We never had to wonder what was going on or when work would resume. Melissa, who answers the phone at MC Fence and Deck, is incredibly responsive and very customer oriented. In short, it was a pleasure to have MC Fence and Deck work at our home and we highly recommend their services.

McFence & Deck were professional and responsive from the very first email inquiring about an estimate for the installation of a fence at our new home. We quickly received the detailed estimate via email as well as a follow up phone conversation to see if we had any questions. We have a bit of trouble getting the fence approved through our HOA and they were quick to reply with all the information needed to get the fence approved. Once the approval was received we were able to schedule the installation immediately! The crew arrived on time at 9:00 am and they were professional, courteous and extremely hard working. They are very detail oriented and do meticulous work ensuring every post was level and set properly. Once the posts were set the wire mesh and boards went up impressively fast! You could tell the workers were in sync with their every move while nailing and cutting the fence boards. Towards the end of the day an additional 2 workers arrived to help with cleanup and finishing touches and were done by 5pm! They left my yard as they found it cleaning up all the piles of dirt and rocks from digging the post holes to ensuring they didn't leave any nails or scraps behind. I greatly appreciate that since I have 4 dogs who get into everything! Throughout the day the project manager would come and check on the status of things and even brought back additional materials needed to complete the job. I have never worked with a company who took such care from start to finish. You can tell that they take pride in their work! The fence is absolutely gorgeous and we could not be happier with the quality of the work. Our neighbors and family are so impressed! I would recommend MCFence & Deck in a heartbeat!

I had a few company's that would not return my call or didn't show up for estimates and I called MC Fence and they have came out and replied to my emails and returned every phone call. So far they have been very prompt and informative every step of the way.

They were quick to schedule and provide a quote. In addition, the work was completed on time.

The crew was on time and explained/ ran through plan before starting. They worked very quickly and efficiently inspite of the 90 degree heat. It was a clean, well executed and professional job.
