A-1 Garage Door

The repairman was on time, calling 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment to let us know he was almost here. After looking at the damage, Charles (the repairman) told us that these doors are no longer made and that the entire door would have to be replaced. He gave us a brochure for a different manufacturer and quoted us a price of $1500. We were astonished and somewhat skeptical that Clopay was no longer making this very common type of door. We got a second opinion from another company recommended to us by a neighbor. He said of course Clopay still makes this door. Only the bottom panel needed to be replaced for a total cost of $450, which included oiling the rollers and springs. A-1 either doesn't know their business or they thought they could pull the wool over our eyes. Either way, it was a very disappointing experience.

WOW! This was one of the best experiences I've ever had with a service provider. Everything was perfect. Mr. Nyantakyi responded immediately to my call, scheduled an appointment at an early date, and arrived right on time. The provider was very knowledgeable. He carefully examined the door, wiring, switches, and motor. He quickly determined that the problem was with the 40-year old motor, which needed to be replaced. With my approval, he replaced the motor, hooked up the wires, and installed two new buttons to operate the door. He did all this very efficiently, and the motor worked on the first try after it was installed. Moreover, it has continued to work perfectly. I also thought the price was very reasonable. Another company that estimated the job wanted $200 more than Mr. Nyantakyi charged, and I can't imagine that their motor would have worked any better. This was a great experience all the way around. I would hire this provider again without hesitation for any additional problems with either garage door. His SuperService Award is well-deserved. I would also highly recommend him for the smiley face and would strongly recommend him to anyone.

We called A-1 Garage for urgent service after our double car garage door came off the tracks late on a Sunday evening. They sent a tech out first thing Monday morning. We expected extensive repairs were needed to replace the damaged tracks and pulleys. The tech quickly fixed the door and replaced only the necessary parts as well as made normal tune ups. In the end the door worked better than it ever had without any up sales and modest cost. A few months later the garage door opener and tension spring broke (unrelated to previous repairs). Again we called A-1 and again they sent out a tech within hours of the call. We continue to be very happy with A-1 Garage Doors. They are very responsive, focus on fixing the problems, and never use pressure tactics to sell unnecessary services or parts.

They actually made the garage door better than it was before. The installer took his time and once done explained in detail the problem and his solution. I would use them again.

Very satisfied with this service! Abbey contacted me within a couple of hours of requesting a quote. Their price was competitive and they came quickly (next day), which was a nice surprise considering it was the holiday season. Charles was very polite and professional and arrived right on time. I asked him about potentially replacing the springs on our other garage door as well but he told me they still have some life left in them and advised me to wait - I really appreciated his honesty. He did a wonderful job with the replacement and our garage door is back in business. I would definitely use them again and I highly recommend them!

This company is fabulous! I emailed them at 1 AM Monday morning, and had I stayed awake 20 more minutes I would have seen their response, asking if I would like to call them right then (1:22 AM) to schedule. I was already asleep. Instead I got a call from Abbey that morning before 8AM, and in short order had scheduled a visit between 9 and 11 AM that same day. Charles arrived about 9:30, having called 15 minutes earlier to confirm it would be a good time. He quickly assessed the problem, completed the repair in under an hour, at a price that beat all the online estimates I had seen - and he gave us a $20 Angies List discount. He was polite, informative, friendly, fast and professional - perfectly matching the superb responsiveness of Abbey in the office, who was every bit as polite and professional as he was! Having a broken garage door is a bummer, but if it's gonna happen, call this company - they are truly exceptional, and quite deserving of their Super Service awards for the past years.

I spoke to Addie on the phone & explained the problem to her. She asked one of the technician's to speak to me on the phone. The technician tried to explain to me how to trouble-shoot the problem to avoid me being charged but I explained that I preferred that the technician come for service because I'm pretty technically challenged. When I asked how much it could cost I was told a service charge for this type of problem would cost $80 & if the part in question needed to be replace it could perhaps cost $20 more. I agreed to have the service done the next morning between 7am-9am. Addie was very pleasant & she told me to please call her the next day if I had any problems. The technician, I believe his name was Charles, arrived the next day. He met my sister because I was at work. My sister told me that he fixed the problem & told her how to reset the light again if it happened again but HE CHARGED HER NOTHING!!!!, because it was a simple & quick fix. I hate to be dramatic here but I have to say this is the absolute best service I have ever received from any company & I use Angie's list all the time for many different things. I get good service most of the time but this was the absolute most honest & generous of the service companies I have ever used anywhere. I have added this company to my favorites & will recommend them to others & they are the first company I will call for any garage door issues. I am planning on calling them back to get a garage-door tune up as well. If it isn't yet obvious, I was very happy with this company & it's very honest & professional service person.

Service went fine. Technician came when promised. Technician replaced rollers, and lubricated hinges. There was not a lot of additional "adjustment" made; door worked well without much adjustment needed.

Our manual garage door was crooked and impossible to open and close. Charles came over within two hours of my call and fixed it. It is now level and opens and closes easily. He was pleasant and quick. I asked him for a quote on installing an opener, too. The price seemed pretty reasonable: $300 for chain drive and $400 for belt drive. Will use again.

Everything was done and we are very satisfied.

When I called for an estimate, Abbey was able to schedule Charles to come out within two hours that same day. He quickly evaluated my old garage door and quoted me a more than fair price for a new door (a complete upgrade from my old door) and installation. A-1 ordered the door and installed it the day after it arrived. Charles showed up within the first 20 minutes of the two hour window, installed the door, replaced the springs, and tested the whole thing to make sure everything was properly aligned and running smoothly. It couldn't have been easier, and Abbey was great about communication and scheduling. Everything works perfectly, but they've definitely got my future business should I need the garage door or opener fixed or maintained.

Charles was on time. He knew immediately what was wrong and replaced the spring quickly and efficiently. He was professional and polite. Since it couldn't be free I guess the price was okay. I called early Saturday morning and got same day service!!

Someone was installing a door opener for me (basically from scratch as the previous owners had taken EVERYTHING) and had problem in the end with the door. My guy assumed that there was a problem with the tension on the springs but asked that I call for a professional to come and check it out. Charles arrived and I explained all this. He looked at it, no testing the door or anything, no closer inspections and told me it would be $100 to fix the springs. I had looked up problems with springs and saw where people had been charged $200-$250, so I though it sounded pretty good. Within a few minutes the guy brought me the invoice and I paid him his $100. I went back out to the garage and my engineer was still working on finishing the install. I asked him if it was fixed, if it was running smoothly now. He laughed and said the guy adjusted the springs with a few turns of his wrench (or whatever) and then left. No testing, no inspecting of the rollers, NOTHING. So when the door still was not operating smoothly I called him; this was within 5-10 minutes of him leaving. He had no interest in returning whatsoever. My engineer was able to complete the installation, but for the $100 I paid for the professional garage door guy, I would have appreciated a little more of his "professional" help.

We called A1 Garage Door to repair a malfunctioning door. A1 advised they were available that day and gave an appointment between noon and 2:00 pm. At around 10:00 am we received a called from the Charles the technician that he could be a our home in 30 minutes. Once he arrived he accurately assessed the problem and provided options. We choose to get the door serviced for around $150. The door works like a charm! I advised Charles that they had a client for life! I would highly recommend this company!

They realigned the sensors in my garage door. They did a good job, they fixed the problem right away. It wasn't difficult to get them out to my home.

I had a previous appt with Sears o n6/3/2014 to fix my garage door. They did not show up. I signed up on Angie's List the same day and received 3 companies names. I called A-1 Garage Door the same day approx 12:47pm. Charles was here around 3pm and work completed by 4pm. charles was on time and a great price was given.

Our garage doors had been not running smoothly when they went up and down and were very loud. We purchased a deal and had A-1 come out and replace the rollers on the doors. This made a significant difference! The doors were much quieter after this was done. We had some concern after they left that one of the doors was sticking. They came back out, without charging us, to check on it. Turns out that if water is present where the door seal meets the garage floor, if you wait a while before opening the door, it acts like it is sticking and makes a jerking action to release the seal. Basically, nothing was wrong. Just normal garage door behavior.

We have called on A-1 twice -- both for emergency weekend visits. Both times, they came right away and didn't gouge us for weekend service. They found a quick and easy way to solve the problem without huge replacement costs. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Charles just left and this guy was great. After calling 3 other companies who couldn't come out for several days, Charles was willing to come out within 2 hours, and it was a Saturday. He replaced the unit and hooked up a remote that goes on the outside wall of the garage door for no extra charge. When he was done, he even swept my entire garage, not from his mess which wasn't much, but of all the leaves and dirt that had accumulated there over the past few months. I felt embarrassed that he was doing it when I should've swept my garage weeks ago. Charles was very pleasant and very polite. Wish he took credit cards, not just checks only, but being a small business owner, I can understand. Forget calling any other place. You'll be so happy you called A-1 Garage Doors.

A-1 Garage did a good job. I was able to get an appointments quickly and they did a good job.

Charles was great. He provided a very fair estimate and indicated that he would available pretty quickly thereafter to do the work. Once we made the decision on which company to use, Charles was able to come out to our home within 24 hours. He arrived on time, and worked quietly and efficiently for several hours. I was very impressed with his manner and work ethic. He removed the old doors within the first hour, stacking pretty neatly on his truck for disposal later. We hadn't made a final decision on the garage door opener when he first arrived, but when I brought it up, Charles politely suggested that it might be best to replace it since it was pretty old. He didn't pressure us, just offered a recommendation based on what he saw. So, we moved forward agreeing to the new opener I thought Charles did a terrific...installing two doors, panel by panel, and then the new garage opener within about 4-5 hours. When he finished, he swept the garage floors and took away all of the trash. He is a man who is obviously proud of work and wants to make sure his customers are pleased. Three days later his assistant called to follow up to see how the installation went, and offer to come back if we have any problems. She, too, was very efficient and responsive to calls and emails. She generally responded to emails very quickly. This is a small business and I am very glad we decided to go with them. I will recommend A1 Garage Door and Charles to anyone who needs to get this work done quickly and efficiently.

My old wooden garage doors were getting worn out and needed replacement. I contacted several garage door companies including the big box stores like Home depot and Lowes. The experince at the big box stores was totally unsatisfactory. The price was good, but after they tagged on the fee for removal of the old garage door and upgraded rollers etc, it all piled up. The sales person did not know anything about the install process, and told me that an installer would set up an appointment and visit me in a week or so, thereafter the door would be installed in around 3-4 weeks time. I wanted torsion springs, but the sales person deferred everything to the installer. I then contacted Costco - their contracted dealer door pro america called me and gave me a quote. After that I spoke to a few other garage door companies to understand what they would offer in terms of the product, upgrades, installation and price. I found A1 garage doors through Angies list. Abbey at A1 took my first call. She was knowledgeable and know what was required to be done. She gave me a price quote on the phone and also applied the required discount. They also offered me upgraded commercial grade rollers and a 1 year labor warranty apart from the manufacturer warranty on the door. They offered both Amarr and Clopay doors. She told me that they could install the door within 2-3 days. After a little research, I decided o go with Amarr doors. Their price was the best, better than the box stores and the Costco dealer also. I wanted to make sure that they were authorized dealers for Amarr doors, so I called up the Amarr customer and got that confirmation. Once I placed the order, the door was installed in 2 days. Charles the owner arrived at the agreed time and in about 4-5 hours installed both the doors. He is a silent worker, does the work systematically and neatly. He hauled away the old doors and cleaned my garage to remove all the installation left overs. Our door opener is a little old, Charles told us about what kind of door opener we might wan to get as and when we are ready to change it - he did not apply any pressure or try the scare tactics to sell a door opener. We are extremely happy with the professionalism of A1 Garage doors and have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who wants work done of their garage doors.
