Tom is very competent when it comes to assessing needs and performing work...competent, conservative, and efficient. The only problem we encountered, and it was significant in our eyes, was the company's failure to acknowledge our acceptance of their bid and to ever be in touch with us for 2-1/2 weeks, leaving us to wonder if they received our acceptance and if we were still on their agenda. Our report would have all A's were this not an issue. Our first visit from Tom was the day after we called (2/28/12); the bid came in 6 days later on 3/5/12, which we promptly accepted. We did not ever get an answer from them, after our placing several phone calls to see when work could start until 3/22/12 when an email arrived stating they could come the following morning, 18 days after our giving the go-ahead and with no communication in between. We were impressed with Tom; we did want them to do the work. And we are quite happy with what they accomplished, feeling confident that our serious drainage issues have been resolved by taking the measures discussed in the paragraph above. Despite communication glitches, we are very pleased with what Texas Landscape Solutions did to solve our problem. Tom found that he used fewer materials (river rock, etc.) than he initially bid and he is, as I write this, making a price adjustment. This indicates the integrity with which he does business; I doubt we would have ever known the discrepancy - in our favor - ourselves. The company indicates below that Tom's father, Ed, had been seriously ill; and for this we sympathize. Had this ever been mentioned to us during the process, we would not be having this discussion now. They never mentioned it at all; in fact, the letter attached to our bid sent by Ed Flaherty said: "If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send an email (
[email protected]), call Tom (cell #725-4658) or me at 342-4951." And it was Ed himself who answered the phone when we called and prepared the paperwork for our project; so we had no way of knowing that he was perhaps not up to speed and dealing with other, larger concerns. (Our secondary landscaping beautification project was never discussed again; it will be put on hold for now. Just happy to have the critical issue solved.) In short, fine work; lengthy period, from our perspective, from initial visit to project completion (3-1/2 weeks) ; lack of keeping us, the customer, informed or even acknowledged. Our concern and well wishes for improved health go out to Mr. Ed Flaherty and our sincere thanks to Tom Flaherty.
Description of Work: During torrential rains in February 2012, we discovered that water was leaking into one of our bedrooms due to a number of factors: soil level being too high (probably a result of 40-year old house settling and silt building up in that exterior corner), a hardscape under gutters which directed rainwater toward the affected corner, and improper grading of front yard where gutter released flow. We came to Angie's List as we always do for service people and this company had rave reviews. We called one day and I believe Tom Flaherty came out the very next morning, He assessed our situation; instead of major overhaul that we expected, he made a more modest proposal: excavating some soil and topping with river rock, removing a portion of our hardscape, and putting in gutters to redirect rainwater across the front yard. It sounded good; he was personable and we were impressed with his 'less-is-more' approach for starters. An additional landscaping/beautification project in another part of our yard was also solicited; Tom gave us specific suggestions which also sounded good.
