G.L. Hunt Foundation Repair

I had a small broken area of concrete along the side of my house and was concerned that it might be a structural issue. There was rotten wood showing in the small hole. I called GL Hunt because they are listed in Angies List and rated highly. They immediately set up an appointment for a week later. On the day of the appointment, Coy the field technician called a half hour before he arrived to let me know he was headed toward my home. He arrived just before the scheduled appointment time and reviewed the broken area with me. He examined the wall and knocked along the side of the house then explained that the issue was not structural and that it was just cosmetic. He explained that during the construction of the home that the builder must have left the wooden frame in place over the actual foundation and that the cracked area was just mortar that was applied over the frame to finish the look of the house. He suggested that a mason might be able to repair it quickly and explained to me that the mason would likely knock out a foot square area around the broken area and patch that. He made my day by telling me it was cosmetic, then he REALLY made my day. When I asked him how much the service call was, he told me that it was no charge. He spent about 10 minutes with me and I am so grateful for his help. He gave me his business card should I ever need it and also provided a reference for a mason. It's nice to see a company that tries to help its customers, even if I didn't engage them for further service. Thanks to you Coy! I'll definitely remember this and will sure to recommend GL Hunt.

It took them two days to complete the job. Everything seems to be well. About six to eight men to came out to do the job. They were fast and careful on what they were doing. They were very pleasant and they worked well with each other. They communicated very well. They measured the from the inside and they jack the house from underneath. The sale rep that came out answered all our questions, he also gave us options which no one had done. He took pictures & showed us everything that needed to be done. He gave us a choice for our budget. everything was great when they were done. They cleaned very well. I would tell members to except great service and they are very professional. They only do this so they have a lot of experience. I would use them again. They told us that if we would like they would come out once a year for the next five years to check under the house to make sure everything was were it needs to be at no charge. After five years if they need to come out it would only cost us $500.00

Everything went well. They were on time and finished within a week. They did an excellent cleanup. They were nice people and I didn't have any problems with any of them. When I asked questions, they gave me answers. I believe their price was high. I wouldn't have any trouble recommending them.

Daniel arrived on time and was very professional during his visit. We had already had one company come out so G.L. Hunt was a second opinion. Daniel did a more complete job of measuring our foundation inside our home and even went outside to look at the exterior of our home (which the other company did not!). We were lucky that both companies said our foundation was solid and we were not charged a cent for the visit. When I asked Daniel about fixing the crack on my wall and ceiling, he suggested I wait 6 months to see if the crack grew and give him a call at that time and he'd be happy to come back out to re-measure my foundation, again at no charge. He also gave me suggestions about my flower bed guards keeping water too close to our foundation and suggested gutter extensions. What a great employee! We will use this company again in the future and recommend them to all our friends.

I was unsatisfied with their work and I was not happy with it. They did not do a good job and it makes me angry to even talk about it. The whole thing is just awful. The exact done itself to address the problem was not done properly. It made me very upset.

The initial consultation they came out and viewed what needed to be done and gave me a price. The team that came out was very hard working. They were here almost all day. I saw a lot of laughter and joy, which lets me know they were well taken care of and their work ethics were very good! When they were finished they picked up the debris very well I didn’t have to go behind them, I was very impressed and that said a lot to me. i have already reccomemnded them to my mneighnor anfd they hae already used them , and i will continure to reccomend them. I have already recommended them to my neighbor and they have already used them , and I will continue to recommend them.

It was accomplished in a timely and professional manner.

I was concerned about my foundation shifting. we had a few cracks here and there. Coy came out and gave a very good inspection. Bottom line we have a little bit of shifting but not to the degree I thought. He did not think doing foundation repair was necessary at this time. I am sure some foundation companies would have sold me expensive unnecessary repairs. Thank you Hunt.

I started noticing some cracks in my upstairs bathroom, so got concerned. I called these guys and got an appointment setup with no issue. They were more punctual than I was, but didn't seem bothered that I was a few minutes late. He spent about 30 minutes inspecting my foundation, taking a look at some work done on some concrete slabs in the back yard, and then measuring my home's level. Everything came back perfect and with no issue. Since there wasn't any work, he charged me nothing for the visit. I was nervous about this because foundation folks could tell me anything and I would have no idea if they were lying or not. I didn't have to worry about that here.

We had a feeling that we were going to need foundation repair based off of what little we knew about the area (NE San Antonio) and the symptoms to look for inside your house. We had several companies come out and give us estimates and decided to go with GL Hunt. Koy came out to give us an estimate. He was very professional, answered all of our questions, and was very good at explaining exactly what we were going to be having done. We were told that the next appointment wasn't for 2+ months. It wasn't ideal, but it wasn't something that was their fault or a deal breaker. However, when the lady called to schedule my appointment they had an appointment open up later in the week and I was able to book that! The crew came out on the day they were supposed to and took how long we were expecting. They were very courteous and professional the entire time they were here. The foreman was in constant communication with me and kept me apprised of everything they were doing. They finished up in just under 2 days. I don't recall the exact number, but they used 22 or 24 of their concrete piers, put their soil stabilizer in the ground, and scheduled a static line test for me with a plumber (something required and included in their price). The team doing the soil stabilization noticed that we had dirt settling in the holes they dug and scheduled another team to come out and fill the holes in more with top soil. It was great! Overall, I'm incredibly happy with what GL Hunt did and have piece of mind knowing that they not only offer a lifetime warranty, but will be around for a long time. Some of the other foundation repair companies offer a lifetime warranty, don't do a very good job, and change their business name. They continue repairing foundations but, because they're a "different business", they don't honor their warranty. GL Hunt has been in business since the late 80's, as the same company, honoring their word and their work. Ultimately, that was one of the biggest reasons we went with them.

Mr. Coy Smithhart (very professional), called to confirm our meeting time and was able to come by our home before our appointment time (flexible), which was great for us. Once Mr. Smithhart arrived he immediately identified an area outside of the foundation issue that we could improve upon to protect our home. He assessed the cracks in our walls and stated that he didn't believe that we had a foundation problem (he could have tried to sell us on repairing something that's not broke, but he didn't), but a cosmetic issue that a different company should be able to fix at a cost that would be very reasonable. Additionally, he made several suggestions to prevent foundation problems in the future. We were impressed!

It went ok. He was a little more educational than others. He was a little more thorough with his measuring and what he had planned to do. He was trying to hard-sell me if I do this today then they will knock off this much money. It was a little hard-sell which was more than I appreciated. When I went to the other place I found out that it wasn’t a very good product. He showed me popular products.

They came and did a great job. They did a quick assessment and they were on time. I really appreciated that. They were very knowledgeable and they gave me some really good information. I enjoyed the experience. I would absolutely use them again in the future.

I don't want to criticize them, because there might be some logical explanation.

The appointment was schedualed for 3pm on the 24th of September. At 3:15pm on the day of the appointment, I called GL Hunt to find out why no one had arrived. The person that answered the phone explained that thier computer had gone down and that they had lost all of thier appointments. Although she was apologetic and seemed to remember me when I had originally set the appointment, she said she was unable to get anyone out there today and had nothing available for the rest of the week. I was on vacation that week and had set up a few appointments with other companies to get estimates. I understand that things happen, but I didnt feel that my business was all that important to her becuase she didnt try to squeeze me in sometime that week. The 24th was a Tuesday. Due to the lack of punctuality and the failure to rectify the situation for me, I decided not to consider this company and take the chance of having the same issues down the road. UPDATE: Shortly after posting this review on Angies List, I had a representitive from the company call me and stop by the house to apologize for the missed appointment. He also offered me a gift card which I refused as I did not want that to influence my rating on this website. I have already had the work I need started by another company so I will not be able to use them to see how things turn out. He assured me that the companies reputation on Angies List was very important to them and that my initial rating had been reviewed with all employees involved to ensure that this would not happen to future customers. In light of this, I will upgrade my initial rating becuase of the followup, but to raise the rating to an acceptable level would undermine the whole point of this website.

Coy was great. He came out early, went through the house and gave me an honest assessment of my options and cost. I was very pleased by the service

I think they were very deceiving in they business.

An appointment was set up during the initial call although no appointment was available for about 10 days. This did not impact my schedule. The representative arrived at the schedule time. He appeared knowledgeable and was thorough in his examination of the problem. His final conclusion that the floor crack was not a structural issue and that no foundation repair was required.

We called G.L.Hunt after researching Angies List as we were concerned about our foundation. We have a alarm system that requires the gap in the doors be within a certain range and found that the gap in the front door was widening and the office and bath room doors were not latching without forcing the issue. Cory Smithhart was the gentleman who was sent and he was absolutely wonderful....he was courteous, professional and extremely knowledgeable not to mention patient to explain exactly our situation...He was very honest and told us no more settling than our house had done, it was not enough to warrant the cost of repair and told us how to simply fix the situation....I can assure you that should we ever need any foundation work, we will not hesitate to call on G.L. Hunt to do the work and will certainly pass on the name should we ever hear of anyone in need of foundation issues. Thank you Cory.

We met with Coy. It went very well. He was courteous. He explained that they no longer do cedar post beams, and that they do sono tubes now. He explained the cost, and also explained everything they would be doing. My husband was also very pleased with him.

I had a draining problem and the GL Hunt representative came out and went above and beyond in assessing the situation and offering a solution. I was unsure if GL Hunt's solution was the one for me and I had specific questions about his drainage solution that representative who came out could not answer. He said he would discuss my issue with his manager and they would get back with me, but that did not happen. Overall, I was pleased with his promptness and professionalism and would consider using them again.

We contacted G.L. Hunt due to concerns that our home may have foundation or structural issues. We have several cracks in our interior ceilings and brick exterior. They were very helpful and eager to help when we first contacted them. Daniel, the Field Technician, arrived at our home right on time, was very friendly and professional. He did a thorough walk thru of our home, inside and out, measured levels, inspected our ceiling cracks, etc. In the end, he assured us that what we had were cosmetic issues only and there were no foundation issues with our home. We were very relieved, but also very appreciative of this company's honesty. HIghly recommend G.L. Hunt. Hopefully we won't ever need to contact them again, but if we do, we'll do so with confidence.

We had noticed that bricks on the exterior of the house were cracking, and several doors were not closing properly. Based on an Angie's List, we called GL Hunt and asked for an estimate. The representative that came out, Coy, was great. He explained the entire processed, answered all of my questions and assured me of the service and what would occur. We agreed to use the company and paid the downpayment. The next day a representative called to schedule the service. The day we scheduled, the team showed up promptly and introduced themselves. They were incredibly professional. The crew chief, Roderick, was very professional and answered all of my questions. Being a very curious person, I know I annoyed the crew with my constant questions, all of which were answered very politely and in great detail -- you could tell the pride these folks took in their work. Everything that was promised was delivered (so far, one more step to go). The cleanup was great! It took two days and each day when calling it quits, they cleaned up nicely and left everything nice and neat. They repointed the brickwork and checked the doors -- all working fine. An overall excellent experience.

I called to ask a technical question on a remodel project for my home. I got in-depth explanation on how a new foundation is tied to an existing post-tensioned type foundation, best practice techniques etc. I am thankful that they offered sound professional advise and took the time. Shows that they are passionate about their work!
