It went well! For us this was a huge decision since we only have one bathroom and were terrified of being without. Fand S's were great and left us with a toilet as much as possible. We have been burned on other home improvement jobs so this was a nice experience and we love our bathroom.
Description of Work: Father & Son's gutten our only bathroom. They replaced all the sheetrock and removed our old plastic tub with plastic walls. We now have a tile surround on our bathroom. They installed the new tub, faucet and drain. Moved the fan and repaired the ceiling and replaced the fan. Sheetrocked, painted, installed the toilet, and a new vanity, sink and faucet. They also installed a medicine cabinet and hung our light. They tiled around the tub and on the floor.

General: Came in under estimate since we decided to put second coat of paint on ourselves and to re-paint the cabinets ourselves. We also did some of the demolition (removing mirrors and countertops) as well as disconnecting/connecting lighting and the plumbing to the sinks. Worked with Fand S to describe the changes and they provided itemized estimate. We ordered lighting, plumbing fixtures, sinks, and spa bath. Fand S is happy to do this, but we had very specific ideas in mind on what we wanted. Impressed with work for several reasons: - protected bedroom from dust by covering furniture and floor with plastic - covered bathroom floor tile with paper to protect it - carpentry was solid and well considered - tiling was also well thought out so that it doesn't look chopped up and flows from/to the shower, spa, and window as a single job. - shower pan and shower were well built and water-proofed appropriately to ensure no future water incursion. Throughout the job, Fand S worked with us when they had any areas of concern and to ensure the installation and design was as we expected. Additional comments: We chose the tile before work began and directed Fand S to get tile from the store where we found the tile. Fand S felt the cost was surprisingly high and felt they could find it for much less. They spent a good amount of time to find the same tile at about one third the cost, saving us $3500. The counter top slab (silestone) was just inches short of being a single piece for one of the counters, so Fand S called and asked how we would like to handle (two pieces with center join or join at one of the ends or elsewhere). We asked them to fabricate a shelf at one end (near the sink and against the wall) that was even with the backsplash, to hid the join. The first 'shelf' was not satisfactory, so they rebuilt it without question. Fand S took the old mirror glass to the dump (we had done the demolition). The broken glass was in a plastic tub. They inadvertantly forgot the tub at the dump, but bought a new one for us once they discovered the mistake. We called Fand S back for two minor problems that came up after they completed work and been paid. One was the shower valve didn't work correctly and they found the valve was installed upside down. The other was the grout next to the spa bath began to crack and the replaced with a flexible grout of the same color. Working with Fand S: Fand S apprised us of schedule (time and days) they would be at the house and always showed up or called to reset schedule. At end of day, job site was always clean and organized. Fand S is friendly, easy to work with, and we always get along very well. We have been extremely satisfied with the work they've done for us and have recommended them to friends. Everyone on the jobsite is happy to work with you, but Jesse organizes the jobs and is always available by phone to discuss. If they are uncertain exactly how you want something to look, whether it will work well, or how it should be done, they will ask and make recommendations.
Description of Work: Father and Son (F&S) upgraded our kitchen in 2010. We had them update/remodel our master bath and were very satisfied. The cost above includes new fixtures, spa tub purchase, tile, counter-tops, and shower glass/doors. F&S estimate was $13,405 and did not include the cost of fixtures, tile, spa bath, counter-top material, and shower glass/doors. Their initial estimate included changes to a half bath, but we did ourselves and were not charged for this. The upgrade included: -building a new shower -installing a spa bath -tiling for above -remove the wall paper, texture the walls, and paint the walls -re-paint the cabinets -new counter-tops and sinks. This required demolition of existing spa tub, bath and shower drains to moved, concrete to be broken out to move drains, and rough-in carpentry for the new tub surround, the shower pan and shower surround, and a shower/tub seat. F&S put up cement board rated for shower and built the stall from scratch. The wall paper did not come up easily and F&S re-plastered those areas where dry-wall was damaged. F&S does not do custom shower glass and recommended DeSola for the frameless glass panels and doors. (Custom glass and doors are a specialty.) See report on DeSola.

They were professional, clean, competent, timely and skilled. Work performed per budget on time and with minimum of inconvenience. While doing the work, an alarm wire was inadvertently cut and the alarm company had to be called to repair it. Father's and Son's was very apologetic and reimbursed us for the cost of repairing the alarm work, no questions asked.
Description of Work: Added cabinetry, installed a wine cooler, added touches to the kitchen, made helpful suggestions to the requested work that ended up utilizing space more efficiently and added to the value of out home.

The Company is run by two brothers and there are a couple of folks that work with them. They have probably done about 7 jobs for me, so I like them a lot. They work with me and their prices are really good. They are very good at what they do and I am very happy with them. I spent about $8,000 on the last job done by them and I think that they are better than fair on price. They are guys I can trust and do good work. They are going to come out here again in a couple of weeks.
Description of Work: I used Father & Son’s Remodeling 3 weeks ago do remodel a m master bathroom in a house that I am selling and they also cleaned up a bunch of other things and repaired a screen door.

Project went very well. They were very professional and very easy to work with. We will be using them for any future remodeling we do.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of guest and master bathroom. A separate designer was used to develop bathroom designs and they executed the designs. Included complete demo of both bathrooms and replacement with everything new - cabinets, tile, light/bath fixtures, shower/tub, sink, counter, etc. Only the toilet and window blinds were reused. Master bathroom layout was not changed. Guest bathroom had wall demo'd next to adjacent vanity area to make larger guest bathroom, but bath, toilet, and one sink stayed in same location. Also added additional work on during job. Installation of new doors in bedrooms and replacement of sliding closet doors with double hinged doors. Installation of A/C vents in laundry room and master closet. Removal of extra large ledge type baseboards in 3 closets.

We are very happy with our new kitchen and with Father and Son Remodeling. There were 4 crews that worked consecutively; carpentry and installation, painting, countertop, and tiling/plumbing/finish. With one exception I was impressed with the workmanship. We had initial issues with the countertop, but they were resolved (see below). The carpentry was excellent. Although each appliance required changes in the custom cabinets, it all appears as though the cabinets were built around the appliances. During the job, we found the new microwave required 2 inches more depth. Since the wall behind the cabinet was load bearing it was not easily modified. With our agreement, they initially added trim around the microwave, but we decided it would look better if the entire cabinet was brought forward 3 inches. We agreed on a price and two days later you couldn't tell that 3 inches were added to the depth except by measuring. This is a complex, stylized, custom cabinet with rounded corners and special trim, but they took it apart nail by nail and put it back together without a seam. The exterior cabinets were spray painted and the preparation and precautions taken to ensure no overspray on other items was excellent. The ceiling was also touched up due to the change in lighting and the texture and touch-up were matched well to the original. We did some of the work that was included in the original estimate (plumbing and dishwasher installation) and recognizing this Father and Son 'traded' us even for the carpentry work done for most of the new appliances. There were issues with the countertops. These were resolved satisfactorily. In the end, we asked that the original 'counterman' not be used and Father and Son agreed. -In one case, a counter that should have been one piece had a 10" piece epoxyed at one end. Father and Son also noticed this and said they already planned to replace with a single piece - no additional cost. -In one of the undermount sinks, the hole was cut using the overmount template and left an unsightly ring of a half inch. We agreed to pay for half of the material to replace the countertop and correct the size of the cutout. -We found that the sinks had not been properly attached and supported to the countertop. This was corrected.
Description of Work: Kitchen Upgrade - Replaced appliances, countertops, sinks, backsplash, lighting, and painted cabinet exteriors. 6 Appliances were replaced with like appliances - Refrigerator, range top, oven, dishwasher, microwave, and range hood. Minor carpentry was done so new appliances would fit in the same spaces. Silestone was used on the countertops and backsplash tiles. 36" flourescent lighing was replaced with decorative island lighting and 6 ceiling pots/cans. Do mention everything you want done and how you expect it to look - no matter how insignificant or obvious it seems. Do expect changes to the plan. Don't hesitate to ask questions about how something is being done as the job progresses.

They were very slow with their response. Their estimate came 2 or 3 weeks after they came to my house and I didn't want to proceed with the work based upon their response. Time was important to me. They didn't actually do any work. They were not as good as the other company.

They are always prompt and keep areas very clean. The finished floor looks amazing. They did a great job installing, cutting and grouting the tile. I requested they make the grout lines as small as possible and they did that well also. I was not aware there were two vinyl floors. They did not charge extra for the removal of two floors instead of one. This of course made their job harder and longer than was expected. I was impressed and thankful.

Master Bedroom - repair large hole in vaulted ceiling and paint walls +trim + doors. Master Bath - rip out shower, tub, old tile and replace all three and then paint new bath. We had a difficult time finding anyone willing to come and do the small amount of sheetrock work we needed. I checked The List and called several companies. Jesse Garza from Father and Sons came the next day. He was punctual, very courteous and very professional. We were so impressed when he said they could start the next week that we decided to have the slate floor removed, too. Their price was also very reasonable. They came early Monday morning, covered everything in plastic and spent 2 hard days of work taking up the tile. It was a dirty time-consuming job but they never stopped. The replacement of the sheetrock and insulation and the painting went very well, too. They cleaned up everything after themselves every day, showed up on time and spent a considerable amount of time being sure that things were done just the way I wanted them to be. They even painted a lot of things I didn't expect them to do! Jesse was here working every day, so it's a small team.

Sears' installers were unable to do the work necessary to increase the cutout size and said I'd have to have it done. I found Father and Son's Remodeling on Angie's List and called because it appeared they would be able to do all three parts of the job. Mr. Garza realized I would be unable to cook until all this was done so came by Thursday evening to see exactly what was involved. He came by Sunday, was prompt, well prepared and did a great job.
Description of Work: We needed the cut out in our kitchen island increased to accommodate a new cook top. This involved trimming down the wood-mode cabinet module, trimming back the corian countertop, relocating an encased electrical wire and adding an outlet for the new pop-up vent.
