The first team member arrived on time (9:00 am), moved heavy furniture to the center of the rooms and walked around to formulate his plan of action. Once he started in the living room, he was a ball of fire. He edged all the walls - no tape necessary! Steadiest hand I've ever seen!!! Once that was done, he got busy doing the serious painting. Around 11:00 am, the 2nd team member arrived and joined in, working in the master bedroom - again no tape. (Amazing!) Scott stopped by for a few minutes to see if they had what they needed and to preliminarily check on the progress. Everything was on schedule. After a 45 minute lunch break, the guys were back and started again, like a whirlwind. Best painters I've ever seen! They came back the next morning at 8:00 am to finish the trim and the doors and decided to paint the backs of ALL the doors (since they were there anyway!). They left at about 10:30, job completed, house immaculate and looking gorgeous. I will tell everyone about DFW Improved. We're going to use them to remodel our bathroom next year and finish painting the rest of the rooms. The crew was friendly, happy and appeared to love their job. I can't say enough good about them!!
Description of Work: This is the 2nd time I have hired DFW Improved - and will continue to do so. I hired them to paint the living room foyer, hallway, master bedroom and bathroom, including doors and trim. Scott Pace, the team leader, gave me all the information I needed and his team took it from there. They purchased the paint (at a discount) and got 'er done!!

Our initial meeting was delayed by our sales person's personal engagements. That isn't a big deal but it set the tone for the rest of the dealings with DFW improved. We engaged them in July and ended up requesting our money back in October. I feel like I should have charged them the 300 dollar design fee back as interest for holding over 7000 dollars over that time. My fault for thinking paying the deposit earlier than they requested would get them on schedule.
Description of Work: Nothing was actually done. It took months to get to the point that we had any idea what sort of design was being proposed and it not what we wanted. When we spoke with our sales guy, who then relayed the info the design guy, we were given the run around as to what was feasible even though they said it would be no problem. The final straw was when the design guy sent me an email that was actually meant for the sales person indicating basic that they weren't willing to respect our design requests and the he was "sorry he had to deal with this." All in all we were out 300 dollars as a "design fee" for basically nothing.

Response from DFW Improved
This project had some very unique design aspects associated with it and we did not feel comfortable with the way the client was wanting us to construct it. Schedules were extremely difficult to coordinate so the design and planning process definitely drug out longer than either party would have liked. The email that the client refers to was from our designer to the sales person stating that due to the difficulty they were having finalizing a design "I am sorry you are having to go through this". It was not meant derogatory towards the client in any way, shape or form. We failed to set a proper expectation up front and we disappointed this client resulting in one of the worst reviews we have ever received on Angie's List. However, this situation is ultimately our fault and we take responsibility for it.

Gary was very punctual and professional, He returned my call right away came out and gave the estimate very quickly. My problem was with how quickly is was done. This was a very big project and I felt like he didn't take enough time with me and with the estimate to detail out the costs. Giving me an allowance for cabinets, when I really don't have any idea how much cabinet are going to be, it was just to generalized and not specific enough for me to make a decision on a big project. In addition his quote was about $10,000 higher than my other quotes. I really liked Gary, I'm sure he is very good at what he does, I just need more detail and I didn't feel like he went the extra mile for such a big project compared to the other contractors that were giving me quotes.

This firm is excellent! We appreciate their determination to stick with us until this was fixed correctly.
Description of Work: We had a roof leak - involving the roof over a 'round' section of the house - and it was only an intermittent leak (when heavy rain/wind were involved). The strange thing was that there was no leak in the ceiling on the second floor - the leak showed in the ceiling of the first floor breakfast room (the water was coming down the interior of the wall). Brian came out and gave us an estimate and stated that it appeared that the rain was making its way under one of the ridge rows. Of course, the repair was being done during the dry season. Did I mention that this is a very steep roof? The crew came out and put a sealant along all the ridge rows and then we just waited for the first blowing rain. When that rain came, it was evident that the repair was being done in the right area, but there was still some water getting through. At that time Brian made the determination that they could continue to try to piece meal the repair, i.e., keep putting more sealant on - or, at their expense, they would come and remove all the shingles from that roof area, put down a rain/snow barrier and then put new shingles back on the roof. This crew went above and beyond in making this customer happy!

It was a great experience overall. John came out a few days after our initial call and gave us an estimate. We thought the price was fair and scheduled the work to be done. Cody managed the project and it was done in the timeframe estimated. Both John and Cody were great to work with and answered all of our questions. The crews that worked on our house were great. They arrived on time the days they were scheduled. They also finished the project on time, which you know rarely happens when working with contractors! :o) They were very professional and asked for our input if they weren't sure about something, rather than just guessing. Overall, it was a great experience and we look forward to working with DFW Improved on other projects.
Description of Work: Repaired drywall throughout house. Replaced drywall ceiling in 12'x14' bedroom. Retaped drywall and repaired drywall holes in garage. Rewired two wall outlets controlled by switches to be constant hot. Installed two overhead light boxes and wired to switches formerly controlling outlets. Replaced some plugs and switches throughout the house.

They did a good job with the pony wall removal, but there was a miscommunication with how low the wall should’ve been cut. As a result, my granite that was installed needed to have a shim around to make the granite level and reach the wall that was removed. They did a creditable job with the dog door; the dog door works well and they even added a small stone-type patio with two steps in the yard for the dog. Everything looks clean and neat, but they were slow with getting the work done. It was in the middle of the summer, so it was hot, so it did take a little longer than we liked. The supervisor at the time, Craig Smith, followed through and made sure everything got done. He even came out to do a few touch-ups himself. Mr. Smith then provided us with a bid that was a bit more expensive than we liked so I asked him to revise the bid, and after a few weeks of not hearing back from him, I emailed him. I got a response back from the company that he was no longer with the company, and that somebody else would be in contact with us in a couple of days. It’s been five weeks now and they’ve never contacted us back.
Description of Work: There were two jobs that were done: They removed a pony wall with an elevated bar in the kitchen prior to us installing granite countertops. The second job was to install a dog door, cutting through a brick wall. We also asked for a bid for more extensive work in the home.

Great experience. While DFW Improved was not the lowest estimate we received, we liked the idea that they had a project manager and answered any questions/concerns we had. Other companies we received quotes from didn't mention a project manager nor did they have the experienced staff to do everything we wanted done. Don and Doug were great, ensured us that they would get everything done in a timely manner (as we had a nightmare of an experience with another contractor for a different project). Doug was a great project manager and ensured that everything was done correctly. The crew were very nice, polite and cleaned up the area to our standards. The siding that needed to be replaced (due to water damage from a gutter leak) was complicated since we have a pergola that was attached to that part of the flreplace wall. We had other companies come out and their ideas were not anywhere near what DFW Improved did. They took 2x4 lumber and built a frame under the pergola to support the weight of it while they removed a key piece that was attached to the fireplace wall. After the siding was removed, replaced and painted, they reattached the pergola with no issues. We were very impressed. As for the painting on the outdoor fire place and bbq island, the surface was not stone but we thought it was gunite. We couldn't confirm since the company that built it is no longer in the DFW area. Doug ensured that whatever they used to paint the surface, that it was going to work. It turned out looking great. We would highly recommend DFW Improved and they would be the first company we would call for any future work. Thank you DFW Improved!!

Fantastic experience, great results, competitively priced, and probably the most professional service company I've dealt with. Diagnostic and proposal were delivered in a thorough and well-documented way, work was completed quickly and with good oversight (along with great communication between the project manager and me before, during, and after), and a couple of minor touchups were taken care of immediately. EASY company to deal with! Wouldn't hesitate to use them again for a wide variety of projects - I'm new to the Dallas area and feel like I've found a future partner on home improvement projects rather than just a company looking to extract the maximum profit possible from me.

I called DFW on 8/29/12 to get an estimate for what I needed done and spoke with the receptionist. Deidre was very pleasant and helpful to talk with and said I would get a call within 24 hrs for an appt. Keith called back the next day and set the appt for 8/31/12 at 2:30 - he arrived promptly and was very easy to talk to about the job. He looked at the border and said his site manager, Tony would take a look and tell me exactly what it would take to get the border off. He called me that evening with the quote of approx. $465 (minus the 10% Angie's discount) to remove the border and paint the kitchen. The following week, Craig and Tony came to the house. We talked about what the job would entail, estimated time it would take and what I would need to do in prep (removing things from the walls and off countertops, remove chairs, plants, etc.) We determined a start date of 9/20/12 at 9:00 a.m. They would move the appliances and replace them. I would need to supply the paint only. Tony and two painters (Ephron and George) arrived 10 minutes ahead of schedule. We explained to the guys what they needed to do and they began laying down drop cloths. Ephron and Tony began to remove the border to see exactly what it would take and how long that part of the job would take. Everything went nearly perfectly (perfect would have been the paper coming off totally without leaving any residue). Ephron began removing the border while George did the prep work. Tony left them to their work and said he would see me today to look at finished job to be sure everything was done properly. They were completely finished by 1:45 p.m. and everything was replaced and cleaned up. They did a fantastic job!! I will happily recommend them to anyone who wants the job done professionally with no muss, no fuss. I will be calling Craig very soon to discuss painting the rest of the house. I'm VERY PLEASED!!
Description of Work: Needed to have border around ceiling removed and the walls and trim painted. The border was on textured walls and they said they would remove it, and if necessary, refinish the remaining wall sections to match the texture. Fortunately, it was fairly easy to remove - most peeled off and rest was dampened and scrapped off with no damage to the wall. The painting proceeded with no problems.

Rod Buhl came out and provided an detailed itemized list of the areas I wanted repaired along with a quote. Once agreed upon, we set up a date for the repairs to be done (Friday). I got the numbers of the paint colors for each area to DFW Improved on the day prior but the painters didn't get the list until the morning they were to show up. That meant one of the crew had to go to Lowe's to get the paint mixed and brought back. In the meantime, the other crew member covered all the furniture and floor with plastic. The job took most of the day but they were dilligent, worked steadily and were very professional. I couldn't be happier with the results. The only thing that was missed was a request to see if they could also repair the wood framing around my mantle which swelled and separated due to the water damage. At the time of the estimate, Rod said he would ask the repair guys if they could do it. He apparently didn't remember because he didn't ask the crew until they arrived. They said they would have been able but didn't bring the right tools in order to make the proper wood cuts. Not a big thing, but the only thing that keeps me from making this a total positive experience. I still plan to replace the carpet with laminate flooring and will contact DFW Improved to get a quote from them regarding installation. It was a pleasure working with Rod and Mauro, as well as Ken Bangs in the office.

We started the bid process in February and were about to get the process started when one of our sons decided to get married in April. So we postponed the project until we could save enough for our part of the cost, the part the insurance would not pay. We were able to begin and finish again in September. Through it all, DFW Improved was patient and worked with us as we changed our minds several times about what extra work we wanted done. They were always prompt and kept us informed about when they would be coming to do work on the house and what to expect from the crew. We were pleased with the speed at which the roofing crew worked and how clean they left the yard when they were done. I would recommend DFW Improved to anyone to do a good roofing job. The roof looks great, the paint looks good, and the price was very reasonable.

Cory and Jason were very easy and helpful to work with. We live out of state, so scheduling was very important to us. DFW was always on time and did all work in the time frame they gave us. All painting inside and out was done by two crews and the work and prep was excellent. Jason gave us good ideas on saving money since this is rental property. All people sent to work on the house were very pleasant and professional. I will use them again if we need services in the area.

I hired DFW Improved to convert my small, one car garage into a gym and a bathroom. I believed all the positive feed back posted on this website. What I was told would take 3 to 4 weeks ended up taking 3 months. Nothing was done right the first time - nearly everything had to be redone or adjusted. The crews showed little to no respect for the area in which they were working, and that this was my HOME. I could write a very long list of complaints I had with this experience, but I believe the most significant statement I would like to make is that the crews just didn't care about the work they were doing. At one point I contacted the owner after the electricians installed a broken light fixture, a ceiling fan at eye level, and the cumulative pile of trash and debris the various crews had piled in the middle of the room, and he was responsive and helpful. The debris was removed the next day and the ceiling fan was adjusted to an appropriate height. After that, I never heard from him again. There are still a number of things that were never completed but I was so sick of the experience that I refuse to let them back in my house. I believe the company must have taken on too much business and must have hired new, untested crews who they sent to do the work at my house. That is the only explanation for the extreme contrast between all the amazing reviews given to this company on this website and the experience I had working with them.

DFW is not a inprovment compant extremly small time operation BEWARE!!!!!!
Description of Work: My Family was biding out a addition on our home in the Dallas area and called DFW Inproved. We recived a call back and schedualed an appointment with Gary St john nice guy said he would get back with us in a few days… After about a week and a half we recived a call from Gary Simms owner stating Gary St John became ill and they were not able to take on our project… Really a project valued at over 75,000? If one person can keep a cpmpany from bidding a 75,000 addition this is not the company you want working for you. This deminstates this is a shoe string company that can leave any homeowner without notice. We are glad that this happend before we got any further into our process. I have been employed for over 30 years with National bulders and i would never alow a company to be rendered OUT OF BUSSNIESS by one employee! If you are looking for someone to caulk your bath tub maybe they might be your contractor.

Response from DFW Improved
It's unfortunate this homeowner feels this way. One of our owners came out to his house to discuss his project. The project he wanted to be bid is a very complex & involved job. We wanted only our top staff to work on this project. The next week after meeting with him the staff member/co-owner became ill & was admitted to the hospital where he stayed for 12 days. We do have other staff qualified that could have picked up where he left off, but they were several weeks out to take the appointment. In our attempt to be pro-active with this homeowner we called him to be upfront & as transparent as possible to let him know we would not be able to give his job the attention it deserved & the customer service the homeowner deserved since we are so busy with one man/salesperson down. From a business standpoint no one whats to ever pass up on business opportunity. In doing so should say how serious & extreme the situation was. We truly value our customers experience from beginning to end & when we felt we might fall short we opted to be honest.

I have a specific vision when I do a job like this. Jason and Chad were great with several challenging projects. The crews worked long days and on weekends to get the job done. This is the 3rd project DFW Improved has completed for us. Because this project was meant as a surprise for my husband, there are very few contractors I would trust to do a job while we were out of town. The team, led by Jason Bailey and managed by Jason Storm were great at meeting with me beforehand to discuss the project while managing to keep the details under wraps. We hired an architect through DFW Improved to draw up the plans. I communicated with the two Jasons by phone during the process and when I voiced a concern that I wanted to ensure the posts were widened to meet the size of our vehicles, the team decided to move a post they had already placed in order to address my concerns. The outcome was beautiful. My husband was quite surprised AND pleased. The workmanship is excellent. (Photos included.)

We had significant erosion beneath our deck causing a major loss of land at the 35' drop-off to the creek below. We spent several months working with geologists, structural engineers and builders to come up with a solution for the problem. We elected to work with DFW Improved because of their ability to handle a project that had many facets and their willingness to work as a team with our engineer. Although we encountered many challenges once the initial deck was removed to reveal the sloping land beneath, DFW met every challenge, working in tangent with our engineer and they never came back with any price increases. They managed to stick to their original estimate throughout the process and didn't cut any corners ensuring a quality job as the end result. Their team led by Jason Bailey and managed by Aaron Murphy was excellent. The work required constant evaluation in order to move to the next phase and they took it very seriously. Due to the quality of the work and the professionalism of the team, we have hired them to do three more projects, including building a carport, putting in another drainage system for another section of the yard, and building a pavillion/patio outdoor kitchen. Description of Work: DFW Improved removed about 400 square feet of deck that was built out over a creek, built a retaining wall to address significant erosion, put in an exterior french drainage system to collect all the water from the house gutters and from the street and redirect it to reduce erosion, and put up new cable wiring for our deck.

DFW Improved was one of 3 estimates I got to remodel my kitchen. Gary from DFW improved responded very quickly and scheduled our estimate for the next day. Once Gary arrived patiently listened to what we needed and then made suggestions, which were great. Gary also informed us that DFW Improved also did carpet so we added that to the estimate. DFW Improved's estimate was very comparable to the other bids and we accepted. We got the project started and it was a real pleasure. Our project manager Corey was awesome, he has a tremendous attention to detail, and excellent availability. Speaking of availability Corey went on vacation and John stepped in and was awesome also, we didn't miss a beat. All of the different work teams were professional, hard working, and really skilled at their jobs. I have racked my brain but I have not one complaint.

We retained DFW Improved to build a second story addition for our two teenage sons, which is now known as The Man Cave. DFW Improved was recommended to us by a friend that also had a new addition built onto their house. The owner Gary Simms was very personable and professional. He met with use to understand our needs and worked with us through several revisions of the plans, giving us options and opinions that ultimatly helped us create the perfect room. Our project manager, Jason Storm was fantastic. His communications were excellent as he kept us informed every step of the way during the construction process. No construction project ever goes perfect, so the real test of a quality company is how well they respond and handle issues and changes and Jason was a pro through the entire process. Building a second story addition is a very evasive project and completely shuts down the usability of the majority of the house. They did an excellent job in minimizing the disruption, protecting the existing interior and quickly completing the project the project. Once the work was initiated and the permits obtained, they completed the work with minimal delays. The Man Cave is exactly what the boys wanted and nobody can believe that is was an addition/remodel. It looks like it was part of the original design of the house and we could not be happier. DFW Improved was very fair in their price and did not exceed their estimate. We would not hesitate to recommend them for an interior remodel project.
Description of Work: DFW Improved built a new second story addition over our existing two story living room. The new addition was initially designed as two new bedrooms for our teen age boys, but after working through multiple designs with DFW Improved we built one large multi-purpose room for the boys which is affectionately called, The Man Cave. Our boys are ecstatic with their new Cave
