We hired DFW to update the kitchen and remodel the master bath. Overall the completed job looks good. Kristie in the design studio was helpful in pulling all the design elements together. The granite that was installed looks amazing and the cabinet work in the master bath is just what we ordered. There were a few issues that were resolved except one. The painters did not paint the bathroom the correct color or the correct finish. They did repaint to our satisfaction. When the bath cabinetry was stained I had to monitor the work, which DFW should have done. After taking pictures of my concerns , talking to DFW, and finding my own translator, eventually the work was performed as it should. The shelves that were installed in the master shower do not slope, so they hold water. Though I must say the tile work itself looks good. The one issue that was not resolved was the condition of the yard\garden, which I made very clear at the beginning of the project that I wanted no damage done to the garden. Workers did not clean up after themselves, leaving white stains on many shrubs(which took numerous complaints to get cleaned off) and left debris in the yard (chunks of tile and excess grout\concrete). The problem with leaving the excess grout and concrete was that it was poured onto the flagstone walkways or dumped onto plants.. So now every time I walk on the flagstone path I see stains or chunks of cement like material. And I will have to wait till spring to see if the plants died. If they had cleaned up the yard as they should have, I would have given them a higher rating.
Description of Work: We hired DFW to update the kitchen (granite counter tops, back splash, and sink\faucet) and remodel the master bath (new everything).

Juan, with DFW Improved, responded promptly to our request for a bid. As a non-profit wanting to keep an eye on costs, we had to receive a number of bids before we could contract out the work. Juan was very patient through the slow process on our end. DFW Improved was neither the highest nor the lowest bid we received but, after going over the scope of work with Juan, we felt they would do the best job. Once we were ready to move forward Juan and his team quickly scheduled the work ? even showing up on an icy day. Once on the job they were flexible when we needed to add a few more sheet rock repairs and also with matching our paint colors. They were extremely professional and took good care of our building. The work looks fantastic!

The response to the request for an estimate was prompt and professional. The initial quote was for the exterior paint & repair of our house. We then requested quotes for the other projects and scheduled these as well. The coordinators we worked with were friendly, detailed and professional. Actual scheduling of the work was not well predicted and was delayed several times, with delayed communication of a new schedule. For example, we were told that a portion of the project would probably be done on Monday or Tuesday of the next week. No one came or called that week. The following week, the coordinator called to apologize and estimate another date. We were flexible with the deadline and the coordinator did contact me for times that I needed to be home. I did not follow up or call when work did not take place and did eventually get a follow up call. The majority of the work could be completed without someone home. The portions of the projects that we wanted done by Thanksgiving were completed by the holiday. Consideration of the scheduling problems was given on some of the follow up estimates and this was appreciated. The only workmanship quality issue we had was with staining the fence. Stain was not applied to the two boards beside the gate latch that had been in the plan to stain. Some stain was dripped onto the house exterior siding. The coordinator agreed that the issues would be addressed but had difficulty getting this scheduled by the painters. This was rescheduled several times for dates when the painters would be on the property, yet it was not addressed. To his credit, the coordinator followed up and checked on this until the work was completed. This was the last portion of the project to be completed.
Description of Work: Paint exterior of house, including doors. Repair of exterior including some siding and trim replacement. Stain a portion of fence and gate. Repair chimney, replacing bricks Chimney cap installed. Roof inspection with minor repair.

They were very responsive, clean, courteous and fairly quick. They were here when they said they would be, did what they said they would when they said they would do it! We are thrilled with out new bathroom and the custom work is spot on. We will definitely use them again and highly recommend them to friends!
Description of Work: DFW Improved did a total get and remodel of our master bathroom, down to studs, and built it back up. Moved walls, removed spa tub/shower, vanities, floor, popcorn ceiling - everything. Then added new drain, plumbing for vanity, tile floor, cabinets, and built a wall to wall shower. Love!

I met with Jason Bailey and described what I was doing with the flooring and thought it a good time to get the dingy, drab walls painted. He left me paint swatches to find colors I liked. I had outpatient surgery at this time, and could not drive, so luckily my brother was able to pick up samples of the colors I liked at Hope Depot ( I do not know if DFW improved would have done this for me if I had asked or if I would have waited to get doc approval to drive again). Anyway, I picked out the colors for walls, ceiling, trim I liked and contacted Jason again. He arranged a time to have the painters come. He got my paint requests when the first man arrived and he went and picked up paint to do the project. The men who did the actual work were thoughtful and careful of my belongs and did a great job. They left the place as nice as they were when they came ( or maybe better). It took about 2 weeks from contacting Jason to being able to get in the schedule to get the actual work done. This was the only part I was less than thrilled about, but it indicates how busy they are. I was under no urgent deadline, so the time delay was not a big issue for me, but if someone had a narrow window of time when they wanted things done, I would ask DFW Improved about that as the very first question.
Description of Work: The walls in the living room, dining room, and hall area were painted before I had new flooring installed, then the painters returned to do touch ups.

This was the biggest house project I've ever undertaken. Four months later I'm still completely thrilled with the results. I highly recommend DFW Improved. My old carpeting & vinyl tile were 25 years old, so well due for replacement. For several years I've intended to hire individual contractors to do the various updates. Instead I looked for a general contractor who could do the whole project. DFW Improved was well rated on Angie's List, responsive; I ultimately picked them for the project. DFW Improved has a showroom with the various materials, tile, wood, carpeting, etc. I was happy with their selection, and preferred to use their materials. The project took about three weeks. The progress was ongoing, I could see the results every day when I got home. I had some luck in the scheduling, but it was excellent timing. Gary, the sales manager, met with me more than once. He talked me through all the options, and quoted several options. He's knowledgeable, great to work with. Tony, the project manager, also great to work with. He kept the project moving, kept me updated. Very patient, and always wiling to explain things to me. Gary & Tony both met with me for a detailed walk through before the project started. Tony met with me for a detailed walk through after the project, and quickly arranged for the small touch ups that I requested. A successful project, and a long review to go with it!
Description of Work: - Removed "half wall" between living room & dining room. - Re-routed the electrical/ outlet from the half wall. - Multiple sheet rock repairs. - Replaced downstairs baseboards. - Painted interior walls throughout most of house. Trim paint - painted new baseboards. - Removed vinyl tile, and installed porcelain tile in kitchen & master bathroom. - Installed engineered wood flooring in living room, dining room, master bedroom. - Removed old carpeting, installed new carpeting in upstairs bedrooms and on stairs.

Response from DFW Improved
We apologize the homeowner was out of our service area. We feel it's better to be upfront with the customer & not go to certain areas of town in which we know we cannot provide the DFW Improved acceptable level of service. We hope to make our way to all areas of the metroplex as we grow, but at this time we do not have the man-power to service the customer.

They were always on time and were willing to work within our schedule. The individuals performing the work were professional and kept us informed at each step to ensure we were satisfied with the process. They worked within their estimate and went beyond in some areas to ensure we were happy. We were very satisfied with the experience and would use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: DFW Improved repaired some water damage in a bathroom and replaced drywall and painted in the garage. In the bathroom, they replaced some of the sub-floor and installed new tile and base boards. They re-installed the toilet and painted the walls, base boards, and door in the affected area. We also had them replace some laminate flooring with tile in a separate bathroom. They pulled the toilet, replaced the flooring, and installed new base boards. They then re-installed the toilet and sealed and painted the base board. In the garage, they removed the water damaged insulation and drywall and replaced with new insulation and drywall. They then painted the entire garage to ensure matching paint coloring. As part of the garage repairs, they were nice enough to assist in moving some large items out of the garage.

These are really nice guys who seem very honest, so I hate to leave a less-than-stellar review, but this was my first Angie's List experience and I have to say I'm disappointed. I chose a company with top ratings and I hoped that meant I wouldn't have to worry about miscommunication and missed appointments. Both employees were very professional, friendly and great to deal with. My disappointment was about appointments. First, they showed up an hour early for the initial estimate. Then work was set to be done on a Sunday. I called after several hours and was told the roofer couldn't make it, so we rescheduled for the next day. The same thing happened the next day. We stayed home and no one showed up. I finally called and rescheduled again. The roofer showed up on the third day and the work was done. He worked all day and everything was left very clean afterward, which was great. Part of the eave was replaced and painted for an extra $100. I was disappointed to find that the minimum had been done -- probably my fault for understanding the entire piece of damaged plywood under the eave was being replaced, but only half of it was replaced, which left a seam in the middle. The roofer put one layer of paint on it, left me the can and told me that they don't really do paint but I could "have one of my little nieces or nephews paint it sometime". If I had nieces and nephews I wouldn't have to hire anyone. Again, probably should have gotten it in writing, but from what the salesman told me I understood that this would all be finished well. There was a second leak, which they tried to estimate and fix for us, but it wasn't possible. I later called and asked them if they could at least place some plastic there or something temporary before it started raining. I haven't looked to see if that's been done, but it wasn't done in time for the snow a few days later. Judging from the leak problems we continue to have (even though the work they did looks great and the leak could be coming from another spot), we may just need a new roof. They said our roof was in good shape, but the worker said the shingles were all worn out.
Description of Work: We had part of our roof repaired where rodents/squirrels were tearing it up, and we had hoped to have a second leak fixed.

During the bid process, I appreciated that the sales consultant Jason and project manager Cory helped make sure my vision was complete and achievable. They listened and understood my goals, but had just enough suggestions to improve the final result. I had an awkward fur-down that limited the height in my shower space to 80". The only way to figure out the total effort and cost needed to remove that was to start the construction, but Jason and Cory showed the knowledge and experience to walk me through options and likely extra costs. We were able to find a plan that fit my vision for the space and fit within my budget. A standout feature of the DFW Improved package was meeting with a design consultant to pick out the finishing for my bathroom. My biggest apprehension in the whole project was picking the right tile/wood/pain/fixture combinations. During the bid process, Jason (sales consultant) set a price range category for the materials that was figured into the total bid price, and at my appointment with the design consultant Kristie had a few options in the category ready to go and they fit my style well. She was able to show me one possible upgrade option that really made the difference in the final design (the shower wall tile), and because DFW Improved is a bigger contractor company, they were able to get all my materials priced much better than I, as an individual buyer, would ever be able to get. The construction proceeded at a steady pace with the right mix of crews scheduled to come in at the right times. I appreciated that covering was placed over all the furniture in my bedroom, and an adhesive plastic covering placed on all the carpet from bathroom down a flight of stairs to my front door. I felt a genuine desire from the team to limit/avoid damaging any part of my home, and to be transparent with information about the progress. I got regular updates from Cory (project mgr) who left me his personal cell phone number and would text me pictures and updates, especially when I had to travel out of town for a week, but didn't want to miss out on reviewing progress. The only issue I had during the whole process was a section of the shower tile was accidentally stepped by the glass installation team on before it could dry and it resulted in smudging and misalignment. To get it fixed it required 2-3 attempts at re-installing, and delayed the overall completion by a week or so, but I never had any resistance from the DFW Improved project manager. Cory was always reachable to make sure the job was completed to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: DFW Improved remodeled my master bathroom and adjacent laundry room. My circumstances for this remodeling were that I had a leak in the plumbing for the master bath/shower which would require me to remove the whole tiled area and dry wall to reach the area where I could repair the damage. I wanted to use the opportunity to upgrade and convert from an outdated tub/shower and to a more modern and spacious shower with frameless glass, repair and modernize the floor tile, and open up the overall space a bit more (I had a lot of doors converging in the space). I also issues with the laundry room that shared a wall with the shower having outdated and worn out plumbing fixtures, and not being a big enough space to allow for modern appliances.

The whole project lasted about a month. Overall we are satisfied with the result. Project manager was responsive and professional. He made an effort to accommodate our needs. But the communication with various subcontractors was not always smooth. For example, floor guy came to our house not knowing what job to do. After we told him all the original floor and subfloor should be removed, he only removed the hardwood floor (but not the subfloor). It took us a couple of phonecalls to resolve this. And a different floor guy came the next day to remove subfloor. Then we found that the new floor they brought was a wrong kind of wood, so we had to wait another day to get the right kind of wood floor installed. Eventually it all worked out, but I cannot imagine what might have gone wrong, and how long this project would have taken, had my husband and I not been there 24/7 to watch out for every little job. Not everyone has the luxury of work-from-home kind of jobs, like we do.
Description of Work: Our water heater broke and caused water damage to most of the house. We chose DFW Improved for the restoration work. It included some carpet replacement and installation, hardwood floor, trim work, crown molding, baseboards, interior painting and carpet cleaning.

The guys did a great job with the dimmer switches and even replaced two batteries in detectors that I couldn't reach that had started beeping right before their visit. The pool table light proved to be trickier which meant a second visit and a little extra cost over the first estimate. However, when they came out the second time they were ready for the situation and did a great job. They even put the replaced fan in my attic for me. I appreciated the fact that they worked until they got it right. I also really wanted the work done before Christmas and they were able to do that for me too.

Overall it was great. We have four units and a couple of the owners were not happy with some of the small repairs. Also, it took the company much longer than was originally quoted (from a couple of weeks to taking several months). Our initial contact Brian at DFW was extremely professional and just awesome! We all loved him and he didn't pressure us - he made us feel like they were the perfect company for the job. We explained everything to us and answered all of our questions in a timely manner and in a way we could understand. But as I hear happens sometimes, the subcontractors missed certain work requests and had to be called back several times on some issues. Miscommunication in several instances. To be fair, it can prove difficult to coordinate with several different owners on one job - but the residents felt if it had been done right the first time, we wouldn't have to call them back and figure out scheduling etc. One resident said that when painting, they didn't tarp and got paint on a piece of their equipment but was so frustrated at that point - they didn't want to deal with calling them back. Those instances were unfortunate because one of the owners was completely happy with their work and I was mostly happy with small issues. I would still definitely use them again but with hopes that the timing issue and extremely delayed completion was due to the huge hail storm that hit our area and all of jobs they had to manage simultaneously.
Description of Work: Hail storm repairs. We had to get new skylights, exterior painting, and roof replacement.

The overall project was well done. This was an extensive remodel and took a cramped, horseshoe shaped bathroom, with 2 entry doors, his/hers vanities on each side, and walk in closets in each corner, and turned it an open, airy, fabulous bathroom. The design idea was by Gary St. John, one of the owners, and it turned out far better than we imagined. It was truly a case of Gary saying, ?You?ll have to trust me on this,? and we are very glad we did! His advice was dead on and produced an inviting space that adds value to our home. This is the 3rd project we?ve done with DFW Improved, and in each case, the company provided professional project managers and sub-contractors that produced excellent results. Although there were a few minor issues, DFW Improved took ownership and quickly resolved the issues to my satisfaction. DFW Improved is a great company to do business with, and is now the ONLY company that will do work of this nature in our home.
Description of Work: DFW Improved did a major renovation of our master bathroom. This included relocating structural elements, re-framing shower walls and a walk-in closet, moving drains for the shower and toilet, and re-plumbing the shower. DFW Improved installed a new tile floor, a custom built vanity and linen cabinet, complete with granite top, undermount sinks and new Moen fixtures all around. A new Kohler toilet, along with 2 new insulated windows at the tub, and a new tile tub deck was added. In the master bedroom, new carpet with padding was installed, and both rooms were textured and painted. The bathroom was finished with new ceiling lighting, new light fixtures over each sink, and all new cabinet hardware was installed.

The work went very well, overall. The project manager stayed on top of things, and there were very few hitches with the process. Whenever there were issues, the project manager handled them quickly, and to my satisfaction. The custom wood work was done extremely well. The Arbor and Cabinet have added a very nice look to the patio. This is the second major project we?ve done with DFW Improved, and from inception to completion, the company has done a great job. The materials and workmanship are outstanding, and the company takes ownership of any issues that arise. I also want to stress the issues were minor, and infrequent, but always addressed in a timely manner. DFW Improved is now my first call for anything related to our home.
Description of Work: DFW Improved repaired storm damage to my roof, and in conjunction with that work, added a custom built Cedar Arbor, and a custom built Cabinet Unit for the patio. DFW Improved ran a new gas line for my grill, power washed and stained the fence, added new wiring for speakers and electrical, installed a ceiling fan in the arbor, and removed some landscaping and replaced it with flagstone and pulverized granite. The storm damage repair included a new roof using 30 year CertainTeed shingles, new felt, vents, and flashings, 3 powered attic vents, and the replacement of a skylight.

Very well indeed. The rep was very responsive and professional, knowledgeable of the work needed. The quote was a bit higher than some other quotes from contractors but I felt they had more experience to back it up, and I was impressed with their promptness in showing up and returning calls/emails prior to the work. Also they are fully insured and cover their work 100% for 1 year, which other guys did not offer. The guy who did the job was also very professional and explained exactly what he did, which matched the quote perfectly.
Description of Work: They demo'd the old chimney stack siding and osb board, removed flu cap, installed new backer board, installed and painted new Hardie siding and trim, replaced flu cap, removed debris. We provided the paint.

We had a massive hailstorm in my neighborhood that caused collosal damage to everyone's home. So, everybody was getting a new roof at the same time. I got a bid for my entire project from DFW Improved after reading positive reviews on Angie's List. Their estimator came at the appointed time and prepared an estimate for me promptly. I talked with him about some issues that he did not put in the contract explicitly, such as having some rotted boards replaced on the garage when it was being repainted. He agreed that they would do that, although some "small additional charge" may be necessary for the materials. I said that was fine. He was very helpful when the insurance adjuster came - and walked through all of the damage with him. When it came time to start the project, I was assigned a different person as the project manager. The roofing project went smoothly. The painting project, not so much. The sub-contractors that DFW Improved hired were careless in a number of ways, including with my landscaping in that they damaged a maple tree and completely chopped down to the ground some shrubs and vines without my permission. I had talked to the project manager about what should be done with those plants (how much should be cut), but it was clear to me that those instructions were not passed on to the workers. I also saw that the workers simply painted over the rotted garage boards without replacing them. I called the project manager to tell him about this issue. Although he got them to replace the boards, he later claimed that I was seeking something outside of the contract. Apparently, he had not communcated with the estimator about this issue. They did the work and did not charge me for it, but I did not like the way this was handled. In addition, I noticed that the painters did not appear to be preparing to paint my front porch. I talked to the painter who later told me that the project manager said it was not in the contract. I then called the project manager and informed him that of course it was included - I wanted the whole house painted and that included the porch. Again, I had discussed the porch painting with the estimator; I rememberd it precisely because I told him that a bright side of the hail fiasco was that I would get my porch painted professionally as I was about to do it myself. Again, the work was done (but begrudgingly). When the painters started the porch preparation, they put my porch furniture on the front lawn. I came home from work that night to find it still sitting there unsecured in any way and the painters were gone. My son helped me put it all back on the porch (otherwise it would have been stolen). I complained to the project manager who said it would not happen again. But the next night when I came home - same thing. No painters, but my furniture on the lawn - in the rain no less. I was very frustrated at that point . Then, the painters used the wrong paint on my porch floor - it was not "porch paint," but the paint that is used on walls. I discovered this after I stepped on the porch at the painters' urging that it was dry - but it was sticky and scuffed immediately. I complained again to the project manager and suggest that these guys needed a lot more oversight than was being provided. He had them repaint the porch floor with the right kind of paint. Finally, the subcontractors came to put on the new gutters. The project manager informed me he had inspected it and it was done. But when I looked at it, there was some flashing sticking out in the wrong way. I sent the project manager pictures of the problem. He sent the guys back to fix it and they did so - although it was lucky I was there at the time they showed up so that I could point out the issue. All in all, the project got done correctly, but only because I was inspecting things each step along the way and acting the part of the squeaky wheel. The company is based in Frisco and my home is in East Dallas. I felt that the project supervision was lacking - and perhaps it was because of the distance involved. I did appreciate that they made things right, but did not like the lack of oversight and the internal miscommunications regarding the scope of the work.,
Description of Work: Installed new roof, gutters, screens, and painted the exterior of my 3 story historic home.

Response from DFW Improved
We at DFW Improved would like to thank the Homeowner for the comments posted about this project. As we grow as a company we strive everyday to not only build upon the good reputation we have built over many years in the construction business, but we also evaluate every job looking at were we can improve on our processes and methodology so we can provide the best possible experience for the Homeowner. We recognize on this project our internal communication as well as communication with the Homeowner could have been better. We have and will continue to Improve upon this. We would like to point out that there was a Project Management presence at the home on a daily basis and many of the issues were already being addressed without the Homeowners knowledge due to the Homeowners busy work schedule. We would also like to say that unlike many company's that refuse to stand behind their work when things don't go as planned or address any mistakes, DFW Improved does not hesitate to take responsibility to make the necessary repairs/changes . While DFW Improved is not satisfied with anything less than all A's on a review, we are glad that it was acknowledged that DFW Improved did get the job done correctly at no additional cost to the homeowner.

The supervisors and crew were all extremely professional. The other drywall companies we called had trouble even setting a reliable appointment to meet us! The crew was happy to start work on Labor Day, saving us a day of vacation - very nice! They tarped the area for popcorn removal, then removed and tarped again for painting. We are very satisfied with the results.
Description of Work: We needed ceiling drywall repair and an upstairs door re-hung due to foundation problems/repairs. We also got a quote for ceiling popcorn removal for the entire front of our house (living room as 15' ceilings). We found the prices very reasonable and approved all work.
