The electricians, the plumber and the cabinet maker were first rate. The drywall crew did a good job. The painting crew had no one on site who spoke English during most of the work. That made it difficult to understand what questions were being asked and to be sure that our instructions would be followed. One room was completely cleared of furniture while we were out in order to make room to paint the cabinet doors and drawers. We weren't warned of that in advance and it was a shock when we walked back into the house. I would have liked to have had some advance notice about that. In addition, even though it seemed that the painting area was adequately sealed off from the rest of the house, we found overspray on the furniture in other parts of the house. In the end DFW had a cleaning crew come in and take care of that. It's worth mentioning that the paint that was used on the cabinets was one that would dry to a hard durable finish. That's a good thing, but it had a very strong odor. So much so that we had to board the dogs for 3 days and spend 2 nights in a motel ourselves. We had a few concerns throughout the project but DFW made sure we were satisfied with the work every step of the way. We would definitely do business with them again.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled our kitchen. The old kitchen cabinets were taken down and removed from the site (down to the studs in some cases). New cabinets were custom built and installed. Plumbing was moved, The ceiling was redone and painted. Light fixtures and other new electrical components were wired and installed. Granite counter tops were installed and the existing floor was retained and undamaged.
Several crews but Jason was on top of the scheduling. Workmanship was great, no complaints. Entire hob tood 5 weeks from start to finish. Wife pleased, I was pleased.
Description of Work: Remodel of two bedrooms and bathroom, refinished hardwoods, cabinet refacing, interior painting, skim and retexture, wall crack repair, repaint all trip, upstairs storage, strip and re-wallpaper.

Rick Annett was the person that we worked with. He was exceptionally professional and helpful. He was very honest and as result we decided to work with them. We were very impressed by his knowledge, experience and eye for detail. DFW was very pricy and originally we were not going to use them since we could get the same job done by others at 80% less. However, the expertise of Mr. Annett was the sole reason we decided to work with DFW. He was present during the entire process and was always accessible via email, phone or text. We highly recommend him.

I would say overall things went very well. Juan was great at communicating and being up front about expectations, which I really appreciated. I would say responsiveness by the working team itself was good. I had to reach out to them a couple of times via text to confirm a few things, but they did communicate back in a timely manner. They replaced the bottom trim on three columns in our front porch and repainted the columns. The paint matched perfectly and our front porch looks great. The garage had a minor leak in the roof and the draywall had to be replaced. I had the roof repaired earlier and DFW improved just replaced the dry wall inside the garage. It was a small repair, and Juan was up front about the dry wall possibly not matching. We also had some walls textured and painted. DFW improved did a great job with matching the original texture and paint. I was very happy with the texturing and painting inside our gameroom. Overall I was satisfied with the work completed.
Description of Work: Retextured and painted walls, removed and replaced front patio trim from 3 columns including paint, and replaced a 1' x 4' piece of sheet rock in the garage.

Given the number of good reviews I?m shocked. They never engaged. I called on 9/26/13 & was directed to voice mail. I left a message with my specific needs?stain cedar fence & paint interior woodwork & doors. About 1 week later, ?Misty? left a message on our home phone that she was ?returning our call?. I responded within a few hours, was directed to voice mail, and left a message again. No one has called back. Today is 10/16/13. Regarding using them again: I don't know. This maybe an individual employee issue.

I found DFW Improved on Angie's List in 2011. I have been in the construction business for over 30 years, and I have never had the pleasure of doing business with a company of such honesty, integrity, and pride in their work as this one. I had a 4 car garage, kitchen/living area, and upstairs loft. They transformed this comfortable (temporary home) into a home. I now have 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, and 2 living areas, plus an amazing kitchen. Since Sept 2011, I have called them back to put in a security gate, and build a garage (which they have just finished). DFW Improved is not a typical construction company. Gary, Gary, and Ron are hands-on owners. We worked together on design of my home, budget, and scheduling. I feel that both parties were amazed at how well we worked together, and I will stress that we did work together. They were more than open to my input, as I was theirs. I had always heard that remodeling was a nightmare. Well, I here to tell you that this was a delightful experience. Thank you Angie's List for your help.

This is the second time we have utilized the services of this company and I shall consider no other company when further services are required. Their work was completed to standards that exceeded our expectations on both occasions . Their attention to detail, helpful suggestions, professionalism, timeliness and worksite cleanliness were unparalleled. Having received another bid for this recent job, it is also important to say that no attempt was ever made to "sell up" unlike our experience with another firm.

I cannot comment on the work that could have been done, as the Company did not do any work, after I contacted them. I saw their ratings and was excited about the possibility of working with them, however, it seems like Mr. Westerman is not a very good sales person. Indeed, when I initially scheduled our appointment I had to reschedule our appointment, due to a work obligation. I think if a supplier has a potential customer, they are willing to understand "things come up" and that request for a rescheduling should not be held against them. But, Mr. Westerman used that fact to excuse his not showing up to our re-scheduled appointment. I waited for nearly 30 minutes waiting for him to show and I didn't hear from him until I sent him a tongue-in-cheek message about how well DFW Improved must be doing, given he didn't show up for a timeframe he agreed to. I ask you, if you didn't show up to an appointment FOR BUSINESS and for a POTENTIAL CLIENT, would you proffer sincere apologies or profusely apologize OR would you send this message to your potential customer: Thats not fair. You changed our prior appt. I agreed to come on a Saturday, but I didnt realize I too had a function with my kids ( a birthday as well) I put our appt as 3:15 not 2:15 because I was mobile...my bad, yes. I can be to your house in 20 minutes, and we can start over if you would like. Nobody did anything on purpose here - you changed I meet we had scheduled, and then we had a minor miscommunication about when that was changed too, and I apologize for any confusion...and no one is trying to "p*** away business". Please let me know what you would like me to do. Ed My response was the following: What a "mea culpa"....! "That's not fair" and a "I accommodated you POTENTIAL CUSTOMER so give me a break"! I don't get to an apology until the end.... I can only imagine if we hired you and something went wrong, what your attitude would be. Hence, my very well concluded that you STILL don't need any business with that attitude, and you certainly won't get my remodel of 2 bathrooms; a bedroom, new carpet for 4 rooms, paint, and likely hardwood on a first floor. This is my last communication. Sent from my iPhone On Sep 21, 2013, at 2:52 PM, "Ed Westerman" wrote: Frankly, I am not sure why he got confused because the 2 o'clock timeframe was his suggestion. Overall, as impressed as we were with Kenneth and the company, we received a much lower estimate for comparable quality and decided to not use them. However, I wouldn't hesitate in seeking them out in the future. They are top notch!
Description of Work: We were interested in getting an estimate from DFW Improved because of their excellent rating and reputation. Kenneth came over and was punctual and professional and really listened to all the details of what we wanted with our master bathroom remodel, granite addition on a ledge in our family room and wallpaper removal and painting in our master bath and kitchen/breakfast nook.
Remember that these guys are GC's and are only as good as their contractors. We had issues galore- 1. Backyard not cleaned up after roofing done. The trash was swept up into a pile but no one picked it up so it rained again and I had to re-sweep it all up2. Shingles were left in our driveway since after the roof was done 3. Plumbers flooded the bathroom since they didn't bother to call each other's mobile phones before turning the water back on. Not only did the shower solder break but so did the one under the tub, although not to the same extent. 4. Granite was not the same color as in show room, not nearly as yellow, a lot more black. 5. Granite was not templated correctly. Replaced with new granite by another subcontractor company, but they put in a sink backwards which we had to call DFW on. 6. The guy came to stain the fence the day when there was an 80% chance of rain 7. Stain guy spilled stain on our patio and didn't clean it up. 8. We went and bought the ceiling fan that they hung in the bathroom. They lost finial for celing fan light and I had to call Hunter and get another one shipped 10. Frameless Glass corner of glass cracked off and had to wait another 2 weeks to get bathroom done after replacement came in. 11. Roof has had two leaks, one immediately after installation and another found 6 months after. There were a few more things, like the plumbers showing up at 7pm but these are the core things. The guys at DFW improved took care of all the issues but we had to eat half the cost of the replacement granite. If someone from the GC had been there when their subs were there we probably could've avoided 80% of the issues but they were not the majority of the time. Would I use them again? I don't know, maybe, maybe not. Like I said, they did take care of everything but I expected more with the reputation they have. If you use them for a singular job, like painting, you are going to pay a premium since they are a GC. I almost used them for an exterior paint job 3 years before this job and I was able to get the job done 800 dollars cheaper than their original quote by another reputable painting company.
Description of Work: Master bathroom remodel and roof replacement.
Overall quality of final work was excellent: Good overall work with trim and granite countertops. Excellent work with updating lighting (spots and undercounter). The painting personnel were outstanding. Designer did a great job of blending the kitchen update with rest of our home's interior. DFW Improved has dedicated craft people who want to please and work long hours to make the job come out right. Some areas of improvement: Poor upfront measurement of appliance space and estimated accommodations for the appliances to fit and operate led to a delay of a couple of weeks on an original two-week project estimate. We think that had the measurements and necessary cabinetry on a built -in microwave and oven been communiciated better to the appliance company that this delay might have been shortened. There was a similar problem with the dishwasher fitting under a new granite countertop. The appliance company's installer ( a subcontractor for Capital Distributing) dropped off the appliances, but did not install the majority of the appliances, because the cabinetry was not prepared "properly" for him to pop in the appliances. He ranted so much that we thought he had low blood sugar and we needed to give him some lunch. He installed one out of four appliances. The built-in microwave and oven did require a separating shelf which DFW Improved constructed quickly. The appliance installer never returned to install the remaining appliances despite our paying Capital Distributing for appliiance installation. DFW Improved stepped up and did the remaining installations but it did extent the project's duration. We think that better upfront communication initially between DFW Improved's initial sales person regarding measuring/requirements and that of Capital Distributing and their installation subcontractors could stop this problem from happening again. Overall, we are pleased with the outcome of our kitchen remodel and would use DFW Improved again. The DFW Improved project manager, Chad did an excellent job to adjust to the daily challenges of our kitchen update. He popped in each day to clear up small obstacles. He had a pleasant attitude and kept the project going when the obstacles seemed extra tough.
Description of Work: Kitchen and Bathroom remodel which included new granite countertop, backsplash, new sink, faucet, new cooktop, built in oven, and microwave, and dishwasher, new lighting, removal of popcorn ceiling, fresh paint, and installation of new windows.

This job was complicated because the old sink that was in place had a unique shape and the kitchen granite countertop had been cut out for this shape. There were only a few sinks out of the many out there that would work without me having to replace my entire countertop. Ian Macintosh did an incredible job of finding a sink that would work and also would meet our taste! Ian oversaw all of the work and we ended up with a beautiful stainless steel apron-front sink, a touch-activated faucet, a new garbage disposal, and all of the water damage being corrected! The price was higher than expected only because we chose expensive fixtures. I will definitely use DFW Improved and Ian Macintosh again! The quality of work done far exceeds any contracting job I have had done in the past.
Description of Work: My dishwasher pump had malfunctioned and caused water damage to the cabinets below my kitchen sink. My kitchen sink was also very ugly and worn, and my garbage disposal was breaking down, so I wanted to replace them at the same time. DFW Improved (Ian Macintosh) came in and handled all repairs and minor granite modifications and replaced the sink and faucet with beautiful new fixtures as well as the garbage disposal.

Everyone I worked with at DFW Improved was knowledgeable and helpful. The company is very efficient. The work was done well the first time, so we didn't have to do any back-and-forth to get things done right. They also helped me deal with the insurance company, They were a bit pricier than other companies, but you get what you pay for. They were also able to easily handle unusual requests, like closing up the dog door. It helps that they have a wide range of expertise, so you can work with just this one company to get all the work done.

I Was looking for painting services in a short window so I contacted DFW Improved to see if they could accommodate. I left a voicemail after hours and received a call the following day. The woman that called asked for details regarding my needs and timeframe and assured me they could work to accommodate what I was looking for. She said I would get a call back later that day or the next day at the latest with price and scheduling information. Two days later I still hadn't heard from them so I called back. Left another voicemail and still never heard back. At that point I had wasted four days of my tight schedule because they assured me they could do it. Not only did they not do it, they set my expectations and convinced me they would, they also caused me to waste valuable time that I didn't have. I wish they would have been honest and upfront saying they didn't have the bandwidth to assist me at this time.

Vendor stated he could complete all services with no issues. After the day work was done, several different areas on walls were not patched/fixed. Vendor sent someone out to patch. Vendor asked if everything looked OK through text message, when I responded that I had to do some work myself there was no response. Next communication was about payment. I would not use this vendor again. I have updated this review to reflect the professionalism level of this company. AN F! I have the records showing the last text message on Sept 6th to Jason Storm stating that I had to repair spots myself then next communication is a voicemail on the 11th from Jason asking about the check. Again, do not use this company for any services.

Response from DFW Improved
It is unfortunate the homeowner's perception is we did not follow up with him. After receiving this review we went back through our records & procedures to ensure our customer service procedures are up to DFW Improved standards. We found text message to the client asking if the quality of the work looked acceptable. The homeowner replied back with "there were a few holes that were missed, but he repaired them". We then decided to call and left the client a message for us to get together. We left him 2 messages and never got a response. We then sent him an email discussing final payment and some information on door research we were asked to do by the client. He never would call us back or meet and he never acted as if there were issues he wasn't happy with. We asked multiple times for a meeting and the client was always silent. Unfortunately we can only rectify and make right what we know about and are allowed to complete.
Wow! DFW provided many services over the course of several months. (see previous reviews) Because of their professionalism, quality of work, and responsiveness - we hired them for several large projects including putting in a new underground drainage system to better manage erosion issues on our creek lot home, redesigning the deck, putting in new cable railing to both the upper and lower decks, building new modern and architecturally beautiful fencing, designing and building a carport to complement the style of our home, replacing what was once a swimming pool with an outdoor pavilion and outdoor living space/kitchen. The work required all aspects of building: drainage, plumbing, construction, roofing, stonework, woodwork, and architectural design. Jason Bailey, our sales representative has an excellent commitment to quality and customer service. Our two contract managers, Aaron Murphy and Jason Storm were professional and ensured that we were satisfied with the outcome. Although it was a large - ongoing project - they worked with us diligently on getting the best price for the quality of work provided. We are thrilled with the end result.
Description of Work: Redesigned and remodeled deck. Designed and built large modern pavilion, outfitted with outdoor kitchen. Included putting in large stone patio and kitchen island. Redesigned back of home to incorporate new outdoor living space and ensure better flow between home and yard.

They showed up on time and where very responsive. They even came back after the job was done to correct any issues. Their quote was competitive with a few other companies. The only issue was that they did not use primer on the exterior brick. Our house had original brick from the 50's and had never been painted. They went straight on with the exterior paint, no primer. The work was already 80% complete when I saw it, so there was no going back. They assured me that the paint would stick, but I have my concerns. They used Sherwin Williams paint, so I called a few stores to ask about their paint. The all said that primer should have been used. They were less certain about whether or not the paint job used would last. Most said I would "probably" be okay. The paint has been on for a few months now and it still looks nice. There are a few places where things have scraped against the brick, like where we leave our trash cans, and the paint has peeled. I have serious concerns about the longevity of their work.
