The tear took only one day and the crew was great. The plumber was on time and also efficient in plumbing for the conversion. The tile crew came next and worked tirelessly building the new shower and laying the tiles. Custom cabinets were installed but they had to remake the doors due to a communication issue on their end. The cabinet builder did a beautiful job though was always late to appointments.
The counter tops and under mount sinks were installed next. There were a couple of chips on the edge of the marble that had been filled in, but we were unhappy with the look. Robert came out and agreed they didn't look good so he sent the installers out who ultimately beveled the edges for a beautiful finish.
The painters were always on time and cleaned up every nights. They had a lot of work to do since we had new custom cabinets, our clothing closet and our new linen closet all had to be primed, textured, and painted or stained. The electrician was also on time and finished quickly.
We had some problems with the installation of the heated floor due to a sub-contractor who made some errors. Robert and Joe responded to the problem quickly and it was taken care of, though it was a huge inconvenience and pushed our finish weeks late.
The work is now complete and the bathroom looks wonderful and functions beautifully. We couldn?t be happier.
So not off to the best of starts. Then we started talking about the replacing of the countertops and removal of the tile backslash. He told me at that point that if they remove the backsplash and don't put in the tile themselves, the tile contractors will have to replace the dry-wall. That was news to me and I ask him why. well he started to get irritated with his answers on why I didn't understand why that is and I didn't appreciate how he was explaining it to me. Since I was already NOT happy with how they DIDN'T do an appointment, I told him I changed my mind and he could leave. I didn't like his tone. he left being not to happy and said a F U while walking out the door.. very nice, huh??
"it always amazes me how the good reviews tell the entire story but the bad reviews leave out the items that make the writer look bad. it was a normal process. you went to the shop first instead of calling for an in home appt. that is your choice to do it that way. I did call and tell you I would call back once I understood your availability. I failed to call back because I thought we said around 3, no harm done. you failed to mention the part where I said I am simply trying to explain all the details so we are on the same page and you are not surprised when we are finished. you did not understand why the backsplash needed to be removed so granite can be installed, I said because it is currently 3/4 and new is 1.25. Also explained the tile removal will damage the sheetrock and someone will need to replace it. At that time you said "why the F will that happen". That is when I got irritated but I continued to be polite and explain. once again you responded with a rude comment and said we are done here. I said are you sure you don't want me to measure, I am just trying to be sure you understand the process. you told me that no one else has said anything about the sheetrock and you don't know if anyone has that in the bid. I responded again by telling you that I am just explaining so you do know and that you don't call me later yelling at me because the sheetrock is messed up and no one to fix it. This is a problem when you have two companies doing the same job. I then said you can have the tile guys remove the tile and then I am not involved but you did not like that answer. I did get irritated with the fact that you did not understand the simplicity of the process and was telling me to get out. just because you do not understand why something has to be done in a certain order does not give you the right to curse at me all the way to the door. the last thing you said was get the F out and that is when I responded with a FU. I will not deny my lack of control and admit I should have been more professional in this matter. HONESTLY, I am so tired of all the customers that write these stupid reviews. The last bad review was completely wrong and fabricated. I did not respond to it because it was so ridiculous. The husband failed to tell his wife that he messed up the job and blamed it on my guys. I cannot fix stupid. I do not agree with Angies list as a referral base nor do I advertise with them. Most of the trades that you find on here pay to be here. they are put on the list because of their outstanding work and professionalism, but to get in the higher ranking they have to pay. I don't agree with that so I choose not to. I appreciate all the business this brings me and the people that use this site for what it is meant for. Hope this clears up some things."
The pros are that the stone is very pretty, I love my countertops so much (soapstone)! And I feel the price was fair. Melissa was a gem to work with.
The cons: The owner, Robert Beazley, is snarky, pompous, rude and argumentative....also unresponsive to many of my emails, voicemails and texts. We, the customers, were blamed for things that went wrong, we were argued with and at the very end we were told a cutting error (cooktop hole was cut too far to one side and required us to hack into a brand new cabinet we had just installed) was our fault and that no compensation would be considered (we asked for $340 to cover the cost of the cabinet we had to cut). For the record, we did not ask that the cooktop be centered over where the old cooktop was. We were not done reworking the island in our kitchen remodel. We asked to not work with him any longer and only deal with Melissa on this last fiasco. She handled it in a very professional way. Then...Robert called my husband to argue with him about the issue of the cabinet and to argue that we found him difficult to work with. We specifically asked to not deal with him anymore to avoid his confrontational nature and rude demeanor, yet he called anyway to argue with us about that. I want to be very specific in this review as, I read some of the other negative reviews and then I read Robert's responses to them. We actually aren't that angry that the stone was cut incorrectly - it was a small error and I do not believe his installer did it on purpose....I think he thought he was doing what we wanted. Our issue is Robert, plain and simple. He is difficult to work with, has terrible people skills, does not seem to understand customer service and he is just plain rude. My husband had to ask him several times on the phone last night if this was a serious call/conversation. In hindsight, it was laughable that he handled this situation the way he did. We are trying to find the whole thing funny at this point, but to be honest, it was upsetting and we are frustrated and disappointed.
We've asked Robert to send us his bill so we can pay it in full and be done forever with Stone Cutters. I do not plan to return to this page to read anything Robert writes in response to this review. Please just send the bill and do not contact us anymore.
"[member name removed], Thank you for Choosing Granite Stone Cutters. We appreciate your kind words."
Started out very good, but downhill from there. Granite was well done and on time. Installed within first two days. Other work was where the problems existed. However, they still haven't fixed a chipped rough spot along the Kitchen sink side.
New Cabinets installed with existing cabinets did not match in size or configuration. Required considerably redo but never did match to our satisfaction. Just had to accept bad workmanship.
Continuously late for scheduled work times. They would tell us 9 am but show up 11 am or even early afternoon. Several times, they never did show up. Didn't call to let us know they weren't coming until almost Noon. Management of subs was terrible---just thought they could come and go as they pleased. One showed up at 6 pm while we were eating with family. I had to accept a 6 am time in order to get the work done before Thanksgiving.
Tile sub did a great professional job!
Initially told us 2 or 3 weeks but actually took 7 weeks with numerous field corrections and redo's. We were without a kitchen that entire time.
I had to help numerous times in order to get the actual work done. I.E. One man showed up to install the new Vent-a-Hood. It took 4 hrs and two persons (including myself) along with numerous field corrections to the wood vent-hood wood enclosure to get it installed properly. I also completed many other tasks without any consideration in the Final Invoice Amount.
Dos and Dont's:
I would get the construction time in writing upfront--not verbal. I would assess a $$ penalty for each week of overrun especially for a Kitchen remodel.
Everything went wonderfully. I would recommend this company without hesitation.
In detail:
Our showroom experience was great. Melissa worked with us and she is very friendly and helpful.
After we decided to go with Stone Cutters, we scheduled our install. A day later, we got a call from Melissa telling us that their schedule had changed a bit and we could do our install earlier if we wanted to.
The work performed was fantastic. The quality of the install was great and the crews kept the are very clean. The work was done in only a few days.
After the install, they have their quality guy come through and he is meticulous. He took care of some touch-up cleaning that I didn't even notice was required and he spent some time showing us how to properly take care of the new counter tops.
Overall, it was a five star experience. Highly recommend!
They were able to schedule the counter to be done within approximately a week. They came to the house to take down the exact measurement and were told again that we requested two underlying new sinks which were also purchased at the time but were using the existing faucets. Requested edge be rounded. Installation was scheduled for a weekday - old counter removed and replaced with new counter. Edge was a pencil edge not rounded as requested which I brought up, was told by the installer that they would install and needed to follow up with manager. Spoke to Manager and they came back out on Saturday to round the edge after installation. Installation went well and they cleaned everything up. I would suggest that order be written down as everything was done verbally - I think they thought this was a small installation and didn't need to be noted. We are very happy with the outcome and would definitely recommend them.
The installation went ok. I was impressed with the amount of time it took to tear down the old and install the new (3 days). I think they could have done a better job on sealing the seam so that it is not so revealing.
I had purchased a slide in range and contacted them to purchase a very small piece of granite (3W x 28L) to fill in the gap between the stove and the wall that matched the granite that I purchased.
Melissa came out and took the measurements along with measurements for the bathroom. I was advised by Melissa that they would give me the piece for the kitchen when they did the work for the bathroom. Then I was told that they were swamped and it would be a couple of months before they could do any work. I then asked if I could purchase the small piece needed. I even offered to drive to McKinney from Rowlett to pick up the piece. No response from either Robert or Melissa.
I placed several calls and emails in which they never responded!!!! I finally reached Robert and was told that they would install the small piece that was needed - but again, I would have to have additional work done in order for them to come out to install.
In my opinion I was being held hostage for small piece of granite I needed for the kitchen if I did not have additional work done because they knew every lot was different and I would have a difficult time finding something that would be a close match.
Now I have a gap between my stove and wall that I am trying to figure out how to close and can hopefully find a company that has granite that matches or comes close to what I already have.
VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!
This has been reported to the BBB. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY......
"This is a very puzzling review for us [member name removed]. When returned to look at bathroom, [member name removed] was very happy elated in fact. There were hugs and gushing of how much she loved her new kitchen, never were there any mention of ANYTHING being wrong with seams or anything with the kitchen all that was said was how much she loved it and what a great job we did. Had any of this been stated when I was there I would have scheduled someone to come out and fix immediatly. I took measurements and let her know that yes we could give her that extra piece for her kitchen free of charge even though that is not normal practice when a customer changes out appliances AFTER our installation has already been finished for several weeks. Because of that fact i did state that we would have to wait for a day when we would be in the area again because I could not justify driving all the way to Rowlett just for one small 4x34 piece. I understand we cant always please everyone but we were willing to do this extra piece that was not part of original kitchen installation for free and to get bashed like this i believe is very unfair. Thank you."
We are approaching our home upgrade in at least three phases, kitchen/fireplace, floors, and miscellaneous updates. I pray that Robert is available for us going forward because, frankly, we are spoiled. This is to say that I would use Stone Cutters again to the exclusion of practically everyone else.
I ranked the price an and quot;Aand quot;. Would I have liked the cost to be less? Sure. Would I sacrifice the quality I received for a thousand dollars, heck no.
The punctuality category got a and quot;Band quot; rating because the cabinetry contractor commonly was late when appointments were set. There several minor redo items regarding the cabinets and most of those were small details. We felt empowered to question even the smallest detail based on the clear direction set by Robert and I must say that in the end everything was well designed and perfectly implemented.
My measure of success is how I feel when I write the final check and in this case the money was well spent and deserved by Stone Cutters. We will delight in my our new kitchen for years and writing this check will be very easy.
