We could not have been happier with the work James Hicks and his crew did. James came out and reviewed the work we needed, got us a competitive quote, and was able to schedule in our time frame to get the work done. His crew was professional and polite. We would definitely hire him again.

I started by calling and speaking with James of Bolen Electric. I had used him before and came to respect what he can do. He was also very personable, and I liked him, which is important to me. James was very prompt in responding to my voicemail and while he was busy at the time, he told me that he would dispatch one of his associates, Tim, who quickly got in touch with me and arrived in short order at my home. Tim quickly diagnosed the problem as a faulty switch and promptly replaced it. The cost was very reasonable in my opinion and I even got a small senior discount. I would use Bolen again because of the quality of the service I have received from them and the quality of the personnel.

Work was carried out timely and hassle free.

James was very punctual & professional.  He knew just what I was wanting as far as enough light, but not wanting to light up the entire neighborhood.  I have never installed any kind of lighting before so I didn't know what I needed!
I am very happy with the final job!

They did good job

They showed up 5 minutes early, were very professional, and fixed the problem in about 15 minutes. He offered to so some more work since it was a 30 minute minimum.

Initially they installed the panel and service and did a good job.  However, they were slow and uncommunicative.  
I hired them to also to install all the new lighting, switches, plugs, etc. for a complete remodel in the same house.  They sent us their estimate and we agreed to it.   We had them start.  They said they'd begin 2 weeks later but they didn't show up.  They showed up over  3 weeks later to start the installation.  They worked for a couple of days and stopped.  They said they'd be back when the framing was done even though there was plenty they could have done before the framing was complete as the demolition was done. 
A month later, we contacted them to see when they'd be back as the demo was complete and the framing on the new addition was complete.  They said it would be 2 weeks before they came out.   Two weeks later they did not show up. I asked what they were waiting for and they told me that they would come out and look at it and let me know.  I had a very stern conversation with him and asked if he was actually going to do the job because if not I would have to replace them and he assured me and said yes they still wanted to do the job and would be back on Tuesday.  I said ok.
A week later they said they'd be out in another week (yesterday) and FINALLY do what they were hired for.  He asked where the most updated plans were. I had sent him the updated plans over 6 weeks earlier and he responded and he had gotten them at that time via email and text. The updated plans were identical to the old plans with about 5 fewer lights and a few fewer switches.  We were going to pay them the same amount for less work.   
Today, I get a TEXT from James Hicks of Max BOlen Electric, the one I had been dealing with this whole time.  His text said that because of the delays in the project (there was a 2 week delay due to asbestos found in the house 6 weeks earlier, other than that there was no delay that affected them) and because they were a "small team" they were going to quit the job because they didn't need the headache.   
They quit without ANY notice at all AND after they promised they were going to complete the job just 2 weeks earlier!!  The entire time they were slow and unprofessional and rude and unreliable.   I would advise against using them unless you have a project that is going to take a time satisfactory to them to finish, get their money and run and even then don't expect them to be considerate, polite, professional or keep their promises.

The electrician was very professional and answered all of my questions. I appreciated his patience and willingness to help me understand more about my home as a new home owner. I would recommend them to anyone!

We were changing out our stove from electric to gas and needed a 110 plug.  We looked through Angie's List for someone close to our location, and Max Bolen Electric fit the bill. It has been difficult finding an electrician to come to our house, so we were excited they were able to fit us into their schedule. James showed up with an apprentice, quickly assessed the situation, and completed the work in short order. They cleaned up the job site well.
James was professional, amiable, and just made us feel comfortable. Glad we found them as we have other work we would like to have done of a much bigger scope.

We followed his advice but didn't like his price.

The technicians did an excellent job.  They were efficient and cleaned up after themselves.  I also wanted to add some outlets in the garage for a woodworking shop and asked their opinion about the plan I had in mind.  They O.K.ed my ideas and suggested the proper size wire and breakers.  They also indicated where in the Electrical panel the breakers should be placed.

Although I scheduled the work for after 2 PM, I arrived home from an outing at 10 AM, called and said they could come as soon as they wished.  The electricial arrived at noon, intorduced himself and I showed him what I needed done.  Instead of one light fixture, I now had three I needed replaced (my wife went with me to the store to get the fixture and said she wanted all three kitchen lights replaced).  He replace all three light fixtures.  He tested the light switches and found that one of the wires was connected to the wrong terminal, changed it and the swithces worked perfectly.  He did all this work in the same estimated time the estimator gave me and so the bill was what was quoted.  I am very pleased with their work.  The only problem....I forgot to print and use the Angie coupon.  I still feel like I got my money's worth.

I had lost power to one section of the house after a power outage. After using Angie's List, I called several Electricians and selected Max Bolen after he returned my initial call personally and worked with me to see if we could solve the problem over the phone, thus hoping to save me a service call. That did not work so a technician was dispatched the same day and he was able to fix the problem in less than an hour. The technician was prompt, professional and so helpful, showing me exactly what he was doing and explaining why. (I liked that!) I was very satisfied with the work and fully plan on using them again for any future difficulties I may have.

The project was more involved than any of us thought it would be when they provided an over-the-phone quote.  It's not normally so expensive to install ceiling fans, and they could have done it for less, but it wouldn't have been done right.  That's because whoever had installed the original ceiling fan in my bedroom had left a mass of wires above the fan in the attic, which was unsafe.  So James, who came out on the first day, was extremely careful in explaining to me everything that was going to be involved if I wanted to do it right.  That included correcting old mistakes, both inside and out, and putting everything in place to create a safe and elegant installation.  
I didn't know that arbors are so tricky, if they are not covered, for installing ceiling fans.  After last summer's brutal heat, I wanted two really effective ones to replace the one ineffective fan that had been there.  James spent a lot of time figuring out the best way to cover and place all of the wiring in a way that would be least easily viewed.  He gave a lot of thought to the several options and came up with a really good solution, even choosing cedar blocks to mount the fans on (their bases were slightly larger than the arbor beams).
The other thing that drove the cost up was installing wall switches where there had been a chain pull (in the bedroom) and a hand-held remote control for the patio fan.
I would rather have a job done right, especially if it's electrical, and pay a little more.  I had absolute confidence in James and Chris, who worked steadily for 7 hours.  They were consummate professionals, very knowledgeable and capable.  I am extremely satisfied and will definitely call on Max Bolen again for my electrical needs.

I have an old "off brand" electrical box. I described it to him on the phone and he arrived with a replacement in hand. He removed some extra wires and tightned up the connections. Then he replaced te curcut breaker. He explained that at some time in the future I will need another panel, but not yet. He has experience with this type of box.

Everything went very smoothly from start to finish.

James met me at my house on time. He was very polite and professional. I discussed with him the problems we had been having. Once he understood the problems, he quickly went to work. He completed what we discussed in a very efficient and professional manner. Perhaps the most valuable part of the service call to me were his analysis and recommendations regarding the load on the circuit in the den.

I just mentioned the problem with the 3-way switch as James was about to leave and I said he could address that when I had them out to do some of the other work we discussed. He said he could probably fix that very quickly and seemed to already know what was causing it. He diagnosed it and fixed it in about 5 minutes as part of the same service call.

We will be remodeling the den soon and definitely will have this company do the electrical work for us. We had been wanting to establish a relationship with a good electrician for more work on our house and I think we have found the right people.

I can't say enough positive things about Max Bolen Electric and the great service we received from James.

The work wasn’t that good. He had a local number listed, but I ended up having to pay transportation charges. I wouldn’t use him again.
