Description of Work: We called Universal Home Services when our downstairs furnace would not work. I printed their coupon offering $49 dollars off on repairs. They charged me $59 dollars for the service call that would be deducted from the bill should any work be performed. They came to the house and stayed for 9 hours. We had been without heat for two days now. When they left, neither furnace was working. We were worse off than before they came. Now we had no heat at all. It was quite cold and we had to go to a hotel (with an elderly woman who was receiving treatment for stage 4 cancer. Even though our situation was worse, they wanted us to pay $200 for their visit. We declined. They agreed to come back Saturday morning for repairs. Nobody answered the office phone until after 1:00. We were then told that if a technician came out we would be charged $200 because it was a Saturday. We would also be charged $215 for them to install another circuit breaker. They were going to charge us almost $500 dollars just to return it to the condition it was in when they came. What we later found out was a simple repair (15 minutes and $150) was completely overlooked by Universal. So, we paid another electrician the $150 to repair the damage Universal had done to the first furnace. Universal left our second furnace disassembled after having unwired some of the components. Now we have another HVAC company coming to repair what Universal did to the second furnace. It was a complete nightmare. DO NOT EMPLOY THIS COMPANY. CROOKS.

 + -1 moreJon Blaylock arrived later than the dispatched stated he would arrive, but he called to notify me of his expected arrival time. He took the time to explain the work to me and to review their "Straight Forward Pricing" plan. He reviewed his work with me and answered my questions. The person who took my call stated the technician would have the discretion to waive the $59 service/travel fee. This was a bit misleading as Jon explained to me he could only do this if the work exceeded a total of $600. Jon worked into the evening. It seemed to take a long time to complete this short list of repairs.
Description of Work: GFI Replacement (2) & Troubleshooting Circuit, Light Fixture Repair, Dimmer Temp Check, Exterior Bubble Cover Installation.

The receptionist was very courteous and knowledgeable and even offered to send out an electrician that afternoon, even though I didn't need anyone until the following day. The electrician arrived on time, was uniformed and very professional. He gave me a written quote in less than 5 minutes and got right to work. He went about his business very quickly with no nonsence and was finished in less than an hour. He cleaned up after himself and was willing to answer all of my questions and even gave me some free advice on a DIY project I was working on. The only negative was I thought the price was a little high, however, let me say that I agreed to the price ahead of time and that I was unable to do it myself. So, I had to pay the price. I would definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: Added a new outlet under the countertop for the cook top and replaced pair of breaker outlets above the counter in the kitchen.

 + -1 moreJob 1: They were easy to work with, I was able to change the appointment three times, and they were very gracious. They arrived on time and were very helpful. I also had asked them to wire outside speakers for me and Ed suggested I work with another person who specializes in installing audio equipment and wiring. His referral was equally helpful and the work done was very satisfactory. I was pleased with both the original company and with the audio company. I will definitely use them again. Job 2: They were very helpful, referred me to another vendor to wire and supply my external speakers, and performed the work as described. They provided an estimate and stayed within it and their employees were very polite, helpful, and cleaned up completely. The manager handled quality control himself.
Description of Work: Job 1: They installed a photo cell and a door bell and they replaced the grounding wires for the house($750). Job 2: They did some minor work--rewiring a solar switch, door bell--and then replaced the electrical grounding system($600).

Description of Work: I HAVE AN OLD HOUSE THAT HAD NOT HAD ELECTRICAL UPDATED IN A WHILE. SOME OUTLETS WERE NOT WORKING, AND WAS HAVING POWER SURGES. A TECHNICIAN FROM THE COMPANY CAME OVER AND DETERMINED THAT I NEEDED A NEW PANEL, AFTER DOING SOME DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. HE GAVE ME A FLAT RATE ESTIMATE. I HAD THE WORK PERFORMED THE VERY SAME DAY, AND HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS.
