Limecoat

Worked well with contract who was resurfacing the pool to coordinate schedules and work. Company then went out of business in Houston.

Due to the upcoming outdoor and pool season the estimator/sales person and the crews are very busy. We worked out the proposal over the phone and through e-mail. Rains made scheduling work dates more difficult. The crew was flexible and so was I. I was not present for most of the work but this was not a problem. The work was well done and the crew was neat. This work was coordinated with the pool company who re-plastered, re-tiled and put in new coping. The coping was raised 1/4 inch making the job somewhat easier for Limecoat. Limecoat did the sealing with the new coping rather than the pool company saving me money. Unpredictable weather and busy crews require flexibility but the work was excellent and the results are beautiful. This was definitely the right thing to enhance our backyard and pool.

We worked with Darrell Ball to obtain a proposal. While his was not the least expensive proposal, I felt that after researching the various companies, we would be better off in the long run with this product and the service. Darrell came to our house and suggested several color options that would match our house paint and brick colors nicely, gave us some references to call, and told us where would go in town to see some larger installed samples. Picking the color and pattern was probably the most challenging part since the samples provided are not always large enough to allow you to visualize the final product. (they are rather heavy, so that is a limiting factor for the samples). We were replacing a sprayed-on epoxy deck that was cool to walk on, so that was the main thing we wanted to continue with the Lime Coat. We selected a color combination (earth brown, grey, winter beige, red) in a flagstone pattern that we felt would work and so far it has been a good choice. Not as cool as the spray deck, but certainly easy to walk on during the hot summer months. The Lime Coat is also a little rougher to walk on than the spray deck, but again, you want something with some traction around the pool. During this process, Darrell was a little hard to get in touch with, as I believe he was in the process of relocating his office, hence the responsiveness was not rated an "A". We were having some pavers installed behind the pool and wanted to avoid contractors getting in each other's way, and Darrell was understanding of this and worked around our schedule with the paver contractor. The process of removing the spray deck and applying the lime coat, texturing and creating the grout lines and applying the colors took four days, which is what Darrell had estimated. It was interesting to watch the process and the crew did a great job of applying plastic sheeting to keep the dust and debris out of the pool during the work. The crew also worked with us when it came time to apply the color to the surface. They tried several shades until we were satisfied. I pointed out to Darrell where we had had some previous cracking to the original pea gravel deck and he made sure his crew drew their "grout lines" to follow the cracks, which presumably will help if future repairs are needed. In the eight months since the job was completed, we have not noticed any cracking. We also pointed out some low spots from the previous spray deck application that we wanted to eliminate. Darrell said that his crew would do their best, but it was hard to guarantee that we would not have any puddling afterward. I understood the constraints and while the puddling has not been totally eliminated, it is much better than the previous situation. The crew also applied the decking material up the sides of our garage slab (about 6 inches) and around the base of the bricks of the house, so it tied everything together nicely for a finished look. The previous spray deck was hard to get clean without using a pressure washer, which probably contributed to its delamination in some areas. The Lime Coat deck can be cleaned with a regular garden hose, as it does not have the many indentations that a spray deck has. I may still use a pressure washer next spring, as it seems that the Lime Coat should stand up better than the spray deck did. We are happy with the way the deck turned out and would recommend getting a proposal from LimeCoat if you are considering a new or replacement pool deck.
