Our lawn cutting guy was actually at our house when I got the flyer so I showed it to him and asked if he could match this price. He said no way, that price was way too low for him to do all those things listed.
So me and another neighbor (who was also over at our house at the time) decided to call the guy and have him come and give us an estimate for the side and back of the house which were not included in the $69.95.
He showed up the same day and took a look at my front yard and gave me a quote of $220 (far from the original $69.95). He said that the "special" was in fact $86, then the extra charges were for additional mulch that would be needed due to the size of my yard (my yard is not big at all!) and then to "groom" my plants and sago palms would also be extra.
The guy assured me that I would be 100% satisfied with this job.
He then took a look at the back yard and quoted us almost $300.
We decided to just get the front done and hold off on the back. So when I called to confirm that we wanted the front done, the charge had now gone from a verbal quote of $220 for the front to $236. I sucked it up and still gave him the go ahead.
His guys showed up the next day and did the work but when I got home, I noticed a couple of things. The mulch that was advertised as "treated dark hardwood mulch" didn't look any different from regular mulch that I could buy at Lowes. The other item that was advertised was that the soil would be trenched away from the house foundation and this had not been done. I e-mailed the company that evening and was told that the crew would be back on the morning to trench the soil away (which they did do).
The main issue I have with this company is that my weeds in the flower beds have come back with a vengeance (see attached picture) and it hasn't even been 3 weeks since they did the work! I also did not like how the flyer is so deceptive with the pricing but that is really my fault for falling for these misleading advertisements that lure you in with a pretty much false "special" price.
Next time, I will do what I usually do which is just go to Angie's List and choose someone myself rather than letting these types of companies choose suckers like me!
