Five Star Flooring

Ken quickly showed up and gave us an estimate including replacing the flooring and repairing the subfloor. When they began the work they found the subfloor was ok. They estimated three days for the job and finished it the first day. One piece of trim had split on removal and a worker came the next morning and replaced it. The final bill was $900 below the first estimate.

The work well. Five Star's workmen are professional, neat, polite and kept us informed. The work was completed within a matter of days.

They worked for me for about November or December 2010 and I believe that it was about $30000. They remodel the kitchen. The owner was incredibly meticulous and I really appreciated that. Absolutely I did this. As a matter of fact, I had ordered cabinets from another company and he actually contacted the other company for me to know where a couple of defect in the cabinet because I ordered the cabinets unstained. And then Five Star Flooring would got to do the staining and they found some of the materials they used in the cabinets were not good for staining for they contacted the cabinet company for me and had the cabinet company come back out and try some of the doors off and like come out for a better wood so they would stain better. They did an excellent job. It was high but I got what I paid for. They were very helpful when I called. They were always there. I hate to give them all A, I mean, I do, but I have give them this because I tried to contact them since they had some other work done and they were too busy.

The quote they gave me was too ambiguous. The pricing was okay as long as my floor did not need leveling. However, the self leveling product was $65 per bag, and if I remember correctly, they told me until the carpet was pulled up and they saw the floor they could not tell me if I needed the self leveler but if I did it could take up to 10 or more bags which would put the price way out of the ballpark from all the other quotes I received. Also, during the holidays when every other installer couldn't perform the install until after the 1st of the year, they said they could do it Tuesday of the next week (they measured on Friday). My concern at that point was why every other installer was busy and they weren't. Also, when I informed them that we decided to go with another installer, they sent me a rather patronizing/condescending e-mail reply back in a tone that I really did not appreciate.

They are fantastic! Their work - currently in progress - is exceptional and beautiful. 5 Star was very busy finishing other jobs and did not get back to me with a quote as quickly as I had expected/hoped. The previous retailer that I contacted never did get back to me after coming out to measure so I was afraid that our job was too small to work. Once 5 Star did send us estimates - apologizing that it had taken time to get back to us due to their workload - we went in to talk to them. We got excellent advice during our discussions on a Saturday and I dropped off our deposit on the following Monday. 5 Star has kept us informed on progress from the start - ordering wood, preparing/finishing the steps treads and risers. Once the work started at the house they have come everyday. Have worked a full day. Have cleaned up after every day's work. Their work to date has been fabulous!

Our experience with Five Star Flooring was fantastic from the initial phone call and throughout the timeframe of the project. Ken evaluated our subfloor situation and made the correct recommendations based on the condition and existing materials. The project estimate was actually much less than we expected so we added a second bathroom to the work order. Great communications, explanation of the task, great crew. We are very satisfied with work that was done at our house and would not hesitate to use Five Star again or recommend to others. Our house was built with a very noticeable unlevel floor in the master bathroom. There was a drop of about 1 inch over a 6' span due to floor joists that were installed incorrectly. I made several unsuccessful attempts to correct the problem but realized that I needed professional help.

We had Five Star Flooring put a wood floor in the den. We had them replace the brick on the fireplace with a 16 inch tile that the owner designed to match our foyer area. They crew was awesome and the work looks great.

I was going to lay the flooring myself but found three unlevel spots in the floor that I thought needed to be leveled. Apparently a water break in the slab. I called Five Star and their man came out and said that the unlevel spots were within specs. So they installed the floor over the rough spots which are under the refrigerator and under the washer. The floor looks great. After NUMEROUS tries, I finally got the pine molding to pretty well match the bleached oak finish of the cabinets.

They just went above and beyond what I expected. They just walked me through the process and answered my questions. They were very responsive, and they were just great people to work with.

They gave me a quote and did the work. It was good that they could do the work pretty soon. I guess they were available so they got that done pretty quickly. One thing that I did not like was that they did not do the work as I thought they were going to do; they did alright. I would probably get more quotes before I use them again.

These guys are the real deal! I was trying to install hardwood flooring myself and discovered what I thought was water damage to part of my subfloor. In a panic, I called Five Star Flooring Saturday morning, Feb. 16, as soon as they opened (around 9:30 a.m.). The woman who talked to me said that they'd come out to take a look and give me an estimate. She called back a little while later and said that they'd have someone out to my house in 30 minutes. The gentleman who came by was professional and took a careful look at my subfloor. He decided that it was not damaged, only stained, and the squeakiness of the flooring could probably be fixed by screwing it down more. He also suggested adding a second, thinner layer of plywood on top to both reinforce the floor and fix the fact that the subfloor was lower than the floor in the adjoining room. He took measurements and assured me that if adding additional screws didn't fix the noisy floor, that he would come out and rip out the subfloor and replace it, but he was trying to save me money. We screwed down the floor more and that definitely improved it, and then added another layer of plywood as he suggested -- now the floors are perfect! I was so impressed with his professionalism and advice that I won't hesitate to call Five Star for my future flooring needs, and I'll recommend them to others.

Overall, the job went very well. I interviewed several companies to install wood floors in my home, and although some were very competitive, I kept going back to Ken and Karen, and finally signed with them because they seemed most willing to work with me for what I really wanted, and for a price I could afford. The wood I wanted (or was most interested in) was unusual and some companies just said they would not bother to look into finding wood they weren't familiar with. Some did show me samples, but were very pricey. Even though Karen had never dealt with this wood, she went looking and brought in samples from two different reputable manufacturers for me right away. I just liked the professionalism they showed - they did not try to rush me or push me in any direction, they clearly wanted me to be happy and not to move on big decisions until I was ready. All my questions were clearly answered and they were very upfront about any costs that could occur outside of the quoted amount. There were no surprises. They told me the work would take 5-7 days, and they were finished in 5. The crew was so polite and professional and they really knew what they were doing. They take great pains to make sure the job is done right and to the customers satisfaction. I am really happy with my new floors; they are exactly what I wanted and I think if I had gone with someone else, I would have had to settle for less. If I have other home projects in the future, I will be sure to call on Ken and Karen again!

I would highly recommend 5 Star to anyone needing any kind of home repair. The entire crew from the office to the workers are extremely polite and friendly. When they left each day everything was cleaned and put in its place. They finished on the projected date. There is not one negative thing I could say about 5 Star.

They communicated well and were very responsive. They had to operate with a home owners association, structural engineer, and with myself. They went above and beyond to ensure the job was completed.

Five Star Flooring did an OUTSTANDING job!! The quality of the work done and the materials used is worth every penny. I would recommend them to everyone and plan to use them again if I ever need services that they provide.

I liked the company over the phone. Professional and responsive. However, they missed the original time set up to give the estimate but with a phone call they apologized and came over within a couple of hours. I felt the walk through was good but the estimate was much higher than another company. I would not discourage using them but I would recommend checking more than one place.

Ken's crew was hard-working and very conscientious. They arrived on time and worked hard throughout each day. They were polite and courteous. I never had to ask them to redo anything. I was exceptionally pleased with the finished product. I would certainly hire Ken and his crew again.

Our experience with Five Star Flooring was very positive. Owners, Ken and Karen, were very professional and patient in answering all our questions?and we had lots of them! They take pride in providing local, personal service to their clients. We appreciated so much their very one-on-one, personal approach that we chose them to install our hardwood floors even though they were not the least expensive of the options we considered (that's why the "B" in price). Karen in particular is a jewel. On three total visits to their showroom, she went over every imaginable detail about the job we wanted. She answered all of our questions with great patience going over hardwood options, guarantees, combinations of hardwood and carpet, colors, differences in padding, etc. I would credit her with doing most of the sale for us. I?m not taking anything away from you Ken; it?s just that Karen is superb! A problem came up around the third day into the job when I started noticing little bumps along the edge of the hardwood boards being installed. Afraid that this was going to ruin the the look of the whole floor, I called Ken immediately. He came in to inspect and explained that the stapler used that day was set incorrectly and was leaving the staples to high. He said the incorrectly installed floor would be removed and replaced, no questions asked. Needless to say, I was very pleased with his service and dedication to keep his client satisfied. I estimate the area removed and replaced was about 100 square feet which comes at a significant cost to the contractor. Still, he did not hesitate in doing what needed to be done to have a good job. FSF?s workers were all very respectful, careful in their job, and explained everything to us. They even agreed to install a molding in my master bedroom wall at no extra charge even though that was not part of the contracted work. About my only complaint is that the whole project took much longer than estimated. In the beginning Ken said everything would be done in about 5-7 days, but it ended up taking two full weeks. The "B" grade in punctuality refers mainly to this aspect of my review. It was a bit frustrating that the project kept dragging "one more day" every time I asked. Given that the job included all four bedrooms in the house this represented a significant inconvenience for the family. Nevertheless, considering that this included the stairs which requires a lot detail and are very complicated and also the portion of the floor that had to be removed and reinstalled, the extra few days are understandable. In the end we were very satisfied with the work done by FSF. The floor and the stairs look great! Ken and Karen definitely give a very personal touch and strive to please their clients. The kind of one-on-one attention they gave us is something that you don?t find much of anymore. We really feel like we were helped not only by a contractor but also a neighbor. So much so, that Ken stopped by the house the day after the work was completed to bring fresh eggs and freshly prepared Polish sausage from his family farm. Now, when was the last time that your contractor not only made your house prettier but also fed you? Yeah, that?s what I thought? I would most definitely recommend Five Star Flooring to anyone and would indeed use their services in the future. Thank you Ken and Karen!

The whole experience was very positive. Of course, any home improvement project is disrupting, especially for an infant, but Five Star Flooring made the experience as painless as possible. They were always quick to respond to phone calls, came out quickly for an estimate, and were friendly and welcoming at their showroom. Ken and Karen were great as well as those that work for them. Everyone was very professional in addition to being family friendly. We will definitely use Five Star Flooring again if needed in the future.

These folks were no show, no calls. I will not waste my time with them ever.

The work was performed in two phases. The first phase consisted of installing the wood stairs and replacing the linoleum flooring with tile. The second phase consisted of removing countertops and the built-ins in the kitchen. This was followed by installing all the new appliances, plumbing, countertops, and tile. The only change in cost was to pay for a new electrical connection to the microwave to be in compliance with current electrical code requirements. All work was performed expeditiously and scheduled to minimize the impact on our daily activities. Costs were in line RSMeans average construction costs.

We contacted Five Star Flooring after a search through Angie’s List. Ken came within 24 hours of the phone call to assess the job. When we showed him how the planks of our “engineered wood” flooring were separating, he explained why. When we visited his showroom, he recommended replacement of our flooring with hardwood, but when we explained why we liked what we had, he showed us an improved design of engineered wood we liked. Karen efficiently handled details for setting a date for installation and delivery of the wood. The workers, including Ken and Karen’s son, solved a number of difficult problems in removing the existing floor and took a half day longer than they projected, but the result is beautiful. They also helped us install two small areas with vinyl. Karen chose the materials for us by phone and the result is perfect.

I had excellent service from the moment I walked into the store until everything was installed and cleaned up. They gave me the pros and cons of the options I was looking at and I have been thrilled with the selection we made. The crew was prompt and courteous and I would hire them back without hesitation.

I started remodeling my home in November 2010. I started with repainting the inside and outside. I had them remove a window and door which was replaced with French doors, removed siding and replaced with stucco, then gutted the kitchen. I hired a husband and wife team out of Mansfield Texas who presented themselves as contractors to do these projects. After the painting, removal of the window and door, the French door was installed, siding was removed and stucco installed, I could see these people were not qualified to do this type work. Plus they did not get city permits where permits were required. This is when I contacted Angie’s List for help in finding a qualified company. I contacted a few companies and decided to use Five Star Flooring. I was very apprehensive at this point as I had already paid the other people from Mansfield for work I knew was going to have to be redone. Ken and Karen of Five Star Flooring were very understanding and it was their “caring” attitude that swayed my decision. They assured me the job would be done right and it was! The first day, they removed the French doors. They also re-did the stucco work on the patio. None of the work I had previously paid for had been done correctly so it was all re-done. Then, they started on the kitchen. Ken went with me to pick out granite. He never rushed me and assured me, I would find the right granite and I did. He also designed the back splash and made suggestions all along the way. Ken has an eye for colors….I wish I had listen to him more. My kitchen is small but after the remodeling they did, it looks much bigger and is so functional. They also did a faux finish on the walls in the kitchen and breakfast area and repainted my den and both hall ways. I could not be happier with the work. What started as a nightmare has since turned out so well. Making sure you have a qualified company doing your work makes all the difference in the world. It will save you time, money and so much frustration in the long run. I highly recommend Five Star Flooring. I will use them on any future remodeling jobs I do.

The price did not include materials. It was a good price and they did a good job. They did good work and the price was fair. They did quality work. I would use them again.
