At first I was not sure I wanted to call this person because of two previous Angie List comments, but I after looking at a number of other previous positive write-ups I decided to give the company a chance. I found the company easier to work with on scheduling a time and they were at my house as promised. The person did a great job and cleaned up after the work was done. I was so pleased with the work, that I will probably have him come back in the coming weeks to do some painting.

Main complaints: 1) In a couple of spots, the drywall was not properly repaired. Within days we started seeing cracks in the drywall 2) The paint job overall was awful. We could see diagonal and crooked paint lines on the wall the next day, once the paint dried and settled in.
Description of Work: We had drywall cracks over several doors and windows. We simply wanted these fixed and painted over. This two-person team performed this task - but in quite a shoddy manner.

I had to dig through our records to find this customer, seeing how we did this work TEN months ago. The member was satisfied with the job and promptly paid his bill. That was the last I heard from him. If he had bothered to call with his concerns, I would have been happy to do whatever it takes to satisfy him. On our invoices it clearly states, "Please feel free to call if not completely satisfied.". The member apparently decided to take the lazy route and simply post a negative report ( a year later!). If your cracks open up within a mere few days after repairs, I'd bet you have a serious foundation issue! Nothing we do can prevent foundation movement. And if the paint job was so awful, why did the member say everything was acceptable when he paid his bill? How could there be "crooked paint lines" when the walls are all the same solid colour? All of this customer's "problems" could have easily been remedied had he bothered to call. If anyone would like to see the member's invoice (paid in full), email me and I'll send you a PDF copy. We stand behind our work. Thanks, Chris

This was my mid 80's parents 60 year old home and Mom is hard to deal with and very, very particular. Dan Golden came as promised gave her his best verbal estimate at $50.00 per hour and completion time. He was punctual each day to start, worked very steady and left things neat at the end of each day to allow kitchen use. He patiently worked with Mom explaining the pluses and minuses of the different texture styles and thicknesses, making her several sample boards and modifing some of those until she knew what she wanted. He worked as quietly as possible for what he had to do. He hit his estimate within 1 hour and even gave them a senior citizens discount which he had not mentioned. He left after 3 1/2 days and other than no wallpaper and no cracks and new fabulous looking textures top and bottom, you could tell he had been there, clean and neat. Mom can't wait to paint. So Mom pick a color! Dan is "A" material.
Description of Work: Removed wallpaper from kitchen and breakfast room. Repaired "Multiple" cracks in sheetrock, both ceilings and walls, from several years of foundation repair by 3 different foundation companies and 1 minor roof leak before new roof. Textured walls and ceilings to meet owners wants to update and consideration of ease of repairs if any future settling.

We needed repairs done to almost every room of our house after a lot of foundation issues had been repaired. The were a little difficult to schedule with but overall they were able to come out when we needed. The company was not cheap, but given their reputation on Angie's List we went with them instead of a cheaper option. We cannot be more pleased! They worked for days, but you cannot see any of the old cracks and the texture matches EXACTLY. They worked with us to manage the price and the work and were very polite and kept the house clean despite working all over the house, setting up scaffolding, and more. We mainly had to dust and vacuum afterward due to the small amounts of dust left by their work. My only criticism is that they did not work full days (typically they were there from about 9 to about 3:30), which meant that they were probably at our house an extra day, so we had to take an extra day off work. In the end we did not mind due to the fantastic result.

Thanks for the kind review! I would just like it to be noted that we had an additional job to finish at the same time we were working on your job. So I had to work at your place until 3 or 3:30 and then work until 6:00p at our other job. That was really the only way to get you in the schedule in a timely manner. It seems to have worked out O.K. for all involved. Thanks - Chris

I called regarding drywall work in my master bath. The wallpaper had been removed and the room textured (knock-down) by another contractor and the result was very bad. I need to get it re-done. I requested that he come out and look at it and give me an estimate. He said that wouldn't be possible for a couple of weeks. I asked him when his schedule would allow him to do the work involved. He said "the end of next week" which would be one week from now. So I was confused as to why he couldn't come to look at the job for two weeks but could actually do the job in one week. He explained that he charges $50 an hour and apparently looking at the scope of a job and giving an estimate isn't something he is willing to do unless you pay him. Since my job involved repairing a bad texturing job I did not feel comfortable hiring him without meeting and talking to him about how he planned to solve such a problem, or even if he could fix it. It was fairly obvious from our short conversation that this was not a working relationship which I wanted to pursue, so I'm not sure how much it would have cost to get him to look at it. I would recommend that other potential customers read his negative feedback on Angie's before deciding whether to do business with him. His work might be excellent for all I know, but between my conversation with him and his responses to negative reviews which I subsequently read, I feel he could be difficult to work with, especially if there are any problems which need to be resolved. While I appreciate that driving around and giving estimates really cuts into his profits, there are circumstances when it is necessary to meet with a contractor prior to hiring him. This was such a case.

I'm sorry that the intricacies of using a contractor review service such as Angie's List have eluded you thus far. Perhaps I can help illuminate things for you, since you wasted no time in slagging me. You probably noticed all of the paragraphs that our customers were kind enough to write about us. These are called "reviews". And you might have noticed that we have a very large amount of said reviews with a big "A" next to them ( currently at 127 - and these are just from the customers who took the time to post a review ). Now I know there are a few D's and F's, but guess what? These are almost all from people that we didn't do ANY work for! So what can we deduce from this data? I think it says that we tend to do a very good job for the vast majority of people. Such a company would most likely be able to handle any job that you might need help with. I know I would want a company like that to help with my projects! Remember the saying " If you're good at your job, you will always be busy."? Well, we're VERY good at our job and tend to stay pretty busy! As a result, I can't possibly provide a free estimate to everyone the day after they call. Most people can understand this and choose to wait for an estimate, call someone else, or just decide to hire us at our hourly rate. But certain people, like yourself, take this to mean "He doesn't want my business 'cause he wouldn't give me a free estimate." Not true. As an example, consider my trip to Taco Cabana last night. There was a 15-car backup at the drive-through and the inside was nothing but people! Did that mean Taco Cabana didn't want to sell me a steak taco? Nope. I could either wait my turn or go elsewhere. I decided to wait, as I knew that the taco would be better than going to Taco Bell! I didn't get on Twitter and start whining about how Taco Cabana didn't clear out everyone else ahead of me! As for this business of my liking to make a profit - yes, I do! That's how I feed my family. I spent much of my early career driving all over this metroplex giving "free" estimates. I soon found out that we got 40% of the jobs we bid on. I'd much rather work a full day than see my pay reduced by half, wouldn't you? This is not a Socialist country, so why do you find it odd that I like to get paid for my time? If you feel that my time is not as valuable as yours, I do not want to work for you anyway. There are many other contractors around here who will be happy to come out and hold your hand and assuage your fears, but be prepared to pay for it - in more money or inferior quality! So for anyone who reads this - feel free to call if you want a free estimate. But please don't take it personally if we are too booked-up to drop everything and rush right over!

I called up Chris after reading the many positive reviews here on Angie's list. He promptly answered the phone and informed me that his father (Dan Golden) was in my area and could come in the morning for an estimate. Dan promplty showed up the next morning, gave me a fair estimate and said he could start work right away! He was at my house for the next two days repairing and re-texturing numerous settlement cracks and holes at my house. Dan did an OUTSTANDING job on everything, was very professional and cleaned up after himself when he was done. You could not even tell he was there, ZERO mess! The price was very fair considering the HIGH QUALITY of work done!I would HIGHLY recommend Drywall Repair Specialist for any job that you want done right the first time! I will have them back out soon to do some more work for me!

We had a little scheduling mis-communication at the beginning. Chris quoted me $50 an hour plus materials (drywall). They came promptly on Tuesday, estimated number of pieces of rock, obtained the rock then hung, taped and bedded drywall. On second day, the second coat went up and then the texture. I couldn't be more happy with the results, very professional, very clean, blemish free.

When I telephoned Drywall Repair Specialists, Chris promptly answered the call. He was very professional. Although busy and could not confirm my desired service date at the time of the call, he promised to call the next day with a confirmed date and time - and he did. The service specialist, Dan, came as scheduled and on time. He was very neat and clean in his appearance. He was very meticulous in his set up so as not to track dirt or debris through the house. Dan cleaned up very nicely and did a wonderful job in repairing the large hole as a couple of small holes in the wall. If I didn't know any better, I would never have known there was a hole in the ceiling or the walls. I will definitely utilize this service again and refer my friends and family as well!

I couldn't wait to write this review. Chris was OUTSTANDING from start to finish!!! I called him up and he scheduled a very timely estimate. He came by looked at all of my work and gave me an excellent, fair quote. I agreed. He explained his schedule and told me when he could get me in next and would call me to confirm and schedule. At this point, I assumed like a lot of businesses that it would just get lost in the shuffle. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Chris called and scheduled me up. He came out as promised and did all the work wonderfully. Alternatively, I spent a coupon from Sun Painting and only got 3 small holes repaired and NO texture done and Chris came out and basically did my entire 4-teenaged boy damaged home with ease. It was very, very good and ABOVE and BEYOND what I contracted for. Let me tell you why. Small things mean the world to me and my family. Let me give you an example. Chris repaired a hole in my wall as I had contracted, yet right next to the repair he noticed that the edge of my wall had been bumped and scraped, so, as a professional, he repaired it. I didn't ask him to do that. Right across from it another scrape and he patched it. I know it is a small thing but my fiancee' absolutely LOVED that. I did too. He did that throughout all of his repair areas. I am not saying that I got some extra free stuff because I am sure that if charged it would not have been much and I would have gladly paid for it, but, the idea that he just repaired it as if it was HIS home showed me just what type of business Chris runs and I HIGHLY recommend Drywall Repair Specialists fully to anyone needing assistance!!

My first call was answered, so no waiting for a call back. My call came only a week or so after many area homes sustained tornado damage, so it was a hectic time for the contractors. Because of the volumn of repairs created by the storms, I didn't get a solid day/time for repair, and I had to forego getting an estimate. It was a little stressful, but completely understandable under the circumstances, and they quoted me a fair price sight-unseen. Within 48 hours someone came and the started the ceiling repair. I didn't know it was a two-day job, but the repairman returned on a Saturday so I didn't have to take off work a second day. In addition, the tile repair man also came that Saturday morning -- a welcome surprise. With all the damage the storms did, I have no complaints. I was thrilled to have the work done and done very well so quickly. Within 5 days of calling, everything was back to normal.
Description of Work: The company replaced a section of downstairs ceiling that had been damaged by an upstairs leak, and applied the texture (popcorn) to the repair. They also replaced some damaged tile grout and sealed the enclosure in an upstairs tub/shower.

I was able to get the work scheduled in a timely fashion and within a time frame that worked within my very busy work schedule. The contractor was very polite and professional and even helped me remove the furniture which most contractors prefer that be done ahead of time. He was very forthcoming about the cost and was able to complete the work within a few hours. Their pricing was reasonable and the work looked great. He also did a nice job cleaning up after himself. I still need to get that bedroom repainted so they may be receiving a call from me soon if they are able to help me out with that as well.
Description of Work: We had a large spot in our master bedroom where the drywall tape had begun peeling off of our awkward cove ceiling and our amateur attempts to fix it over the years made it look even worse. I apologize if the date of service and cost are a bit off as it was sometime in late January/early February and because I didn't use a coupon, I was never prompted to write a review. However, I would like to add one because I did receive great service.

Dan Golden is a TRUE GEM!!! Our 12-year-old Steve Hawkins' home had sheetrock problems when it was built that the builder never fixed. Dan floated out the entry way hall that had a huge hump from a bowed stud. It now looks perfect! He also added texture to new sheetrock work and repaired roof leak damage to the living room ceiling. He's a hard worker, timely, kept the areas clean while he worked and took any waste away with him. HIRE HIM and you too will be a happy customer! I would not hesitate to hire him again. Thanks Dan!

The job was perfect in every way. We will definitely use Don in the future. We highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: We originally had three areas that needed Dry Wall Repair -- our master bathroom ceiling had a hole from an upstairs toilet that had a plumbing problem and water had destroyed our ceiling. Then we had the garage wall that I had run into with my car and a small whole in the wall on the second floor. All of the wholes had to be repaired and the texture had to match as our house is only five years old. I called Chris and described to him what the job entailed and he asked some pretty specific questions and provided a ball park estimate over the phone but said it really was an estimate and the final amount could be a little more or less depending on what he saw when he came over. Quite honestly, I was very pleased with the estimate and thought it to be extremely reasonable -- we scheduled for that Saturday morning. Don Golden (Chris' dad) rang the door about 15 minutes early. We toured the job and he asked what Chris' telephone estimate was and he acknowledged that it was on the mark -- he started to work immediately. In every area that he worked he was meticulous about not making a mess and cleaning up after himself. After we saw the first area he repaired and how great it looked, we quickly found two other additional areas that needed work -- one was rewireing our television cables through two walls to mount our TV over the fire place. Don was great, he showed us the best way to break through the walls to run the wires and said just to let him know when we were done running the wires and he would come right behind us and repair the walls. In all, we made some six good size wholes that he repaired to perfection in addition to the original job. We then had forgotten about the day I was in the attic and almost fell through the foyer ceiling some 20 plus feet. Don said no problem but I will have to come back next week with some special scaphling to reach the twenty foot ceiling. He explained to us that the scaphle had rubber wheels that would not harm our foyer floor. The following week, again Don was 15 minutes early -- he set up the equipment, was meticulous about keeping the area spotless and the end result was perfection!

We were fortunate enough to have Chris referred to us 4-5 years ago when we needed some drywall work done in our entry area. So he was the first person I contacted after our requisite wait period after having foundation repair work done last Fall. First, let me say that Chris is extremely professional. He's a busy guy and cannot come to your house to do estimates, though you can e-mail photos to him for estimation. Since we knew his work product and knew his hourly rate, we had no problem having him estimate the job the morning he was scheduled to begin. He did a quick walk-thru and we discussed everything that needed to be repaired and he gave an estimate on the spot. He had an assistant the first day of repair work and they divided and conquered both spaces. Tarps were laid down all through the house to keep the mess at a minimum and everything was thoroughly cleaned up before they left. Chris returned alone the next morning to finish up the work, which consisted mostly of painting hard to reach areas. Though he works on an hourly rate, he was all business while he was here. I was never concerned that he wasn't working hard because he never stopped working. The finished work was excellent and matched our existing texture extremely well.

Thanks for the kind words, member. But I would like to clarify the part about estimates. I have no problem with providing free estimates if I have spare time or I have a job scheduled in your general area. We are a small operation ( currently myself and my partner ) and are kept pretty busy the good people of Angie's List. Also consider that for a small job, say under $250.00, providing a free estimate eats up a good part of the profit, especially as the price of gas edges towards the five-dollars per gallon mark. But you're always welcome to call and ask if it's possible to schedule an estimate. And if you're looking for hassle-free, quality home improvement it will be hard to beat us!

Chris arrived on time but I was surprised to find it was only him. I was expecting a crew of sorts. Once I realized the work was going to take more than a day or two I sorted out my schedule and watched the work get done. Chris is detail oriented and did a very nice job. Made necessary suggestions without trying to "run up" the bill. Give Chris the necessary time and he'll give you superb work.

I had a handyman botch up some crack repair work with texturizing and painting. It was awful. Chris came and re-sanded without making a mess at all, and re-textured and painted with the least amount of inconvenience possible. He tried to keep the cost down for me as well. I would definetly recommend them.
Description of Work: Chris had to set up and prepare to sand different areas in our home, texture and paint match.

I called Chris for an estimate on patching a ceiling hole from where I stepped through. The estimate was for $200. When his dad, Dan showed up, on time, he patched and textured the ceiling for $160. He did an OUTSTANDING JOB! He was careful to keep dust at a minimum, worked quickly and then cleaned up. I was so impressed, I had Dan come back and hang a couple of sheets of drywall and then tape and bed them. The price and service can't be beat. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Drywall ceiling repair and texture. Hanging new drywall and tape and bed.
