The member purchased a "$99 for $400 worth" of flooring installation from our DEALS area on the Angie's List website. The DEAL is good on 1,000 square feet of flooring or more. The member had a small tile job of less than 100 square feet totaling around $600. When we informed her that the coupon she purchased could not be used on this job she got upset. We offered our standard Angie's List 10% discount and to buy back the coupon on the spot, to no avail. The terms of the coupon offer are not in fine print. They are stated clearly and prominently. We have tried to do everything possible to avoid confusion, and frankly this has not been an issue to this point. I will review the coupons and language thereon at once and make sure there is no ambiguity or lack of clarity on our part. As always, I appreciate this and every review posted as they can only help us improve our level of service to our clients. Dan Ratcliff President 972-679-6426

It was very good. It was excellent. Everything is as it should be. We did have a little bit of a problem but they took care of it. They said that they would take care of it no matter what it was. The work they did on the floor was great. Their responsiveness is an A+.

This was over 2 weeks ago and I have not heard back from anyone. I did not complain about the work or ask for anything to be fixed yet. I just needed someone to come and check on the way the grout had set and looked. I am not saying the service was bad, I guess what I am saying is that after the work was done I seemed to have disappeared from their priority list. We were also told by the salesman that he would follow up after the work was done to see if everything went well. We have not heard from him either since the week before the installation. Normally all of this wouldn't bother me; however, when I am told that I will be contacted and checked in on, I expect for the company to follow through with their promises. I shouldn't have to make those calls myself. I'd like to fix this review at some point, cause I see that many people have wonderful reviews for this company, but as of now all I have to go off of is the lack of communication I have received from them following my final payment. Update 12/30/2015: I am still working with the company with the issues I am having with the tile. An installation manager came by to inspect the work done and agreed that it was not up to standard. We are now in the process of figuring out what needs to be done now that the problem has been identified. Update 3/12/2015 After working with the Owner and Installation Manager on the issues with my initial tile installation, the issues that were originally present have been fixed by installing new tile. The new tile was at no cost to me and looks great. Although I was frustrated in the beginning, the way that the owner and manager worked with me to solve the problem was nothing short of professional. It took awhile, but our floors look wonderful and we are very satisfied. I also understand that not every installation or product will go as planned and I appreciate how everything was taken care of throughout the process.

We have been actively working with this member to resolve his issue. In fact, the way we found out there was an issue was from a call Karen in our Client Services area made to the member. Karen then sent an email to our management team. This review was posted when the member felt management did not respond quickly enough, and this is probably a fair point. To be clear, however, we did respond and would never stand idle while a client is dissatisfied. We are currently on great working terms with this member and will solve his problem, guaranteed. I replaced all the carpet and tile in my home after leasing it out for 1 year. My home is rather small 1500 sq ft. The house was completely empty so I assumed that the job would be relatively easy as there was no furniture to move. I read the reviews about this company and felt that I was making a good decision by hiring this company. The tile was installed first and took time as they had to remove carpet and tile. It took about 3 days to complete. I was quite surprised by the mess left behind. Grout and thinset on moulding, walls, doors. Lots of tile scraps in my yard, shower and tub. I expected dust and there was a lot of it everywhere nothing was covered. I called my sales rep after the install and sent pictures of the glops of stuff and the hand prints left by the grout/thinset. I also called the office and asked if some of this should have been cleaned up they stated that they do clean after the job is finished and they should have cleaned. They offered to send the installer back out to clean up. I had already started cleaning up the mess and my schedule was not flexible enough to accommodate another day off work to have someone come in and clean what should have been done after the installation. The carpet was installed a few days later and the installer was 2 hours late. After multiple calls to the office I was told the installer was about 30 min out he arrived about 1-1/2 hours later and was very abrupt apparently unhappy that I had called. I had to be back at work and had allotted an adequate amount of time to meet them and let them in to do the install but the late arrival was putting me at a disadvantage at work. I also advised the sales rep during the selection process that I wanted all porcelain tile, I had 2 different types of tile installed. One that looks like hand scrapped wood throughout most of the house and another for bath and closets. After the install I realized that the bath/closet tile was ceramic not porcelain as I requested and thought that was what I was paying for. Over all I like they final look, but am disappointed with how the installation was managed. I am also disappointed that I clearly stated I wanted porcelain throughout mainly because I like the durability of porcelain tile. I am glad that the house was empty as I can't imagine what it would have been like to have anything in the house while the installation was being performed.

Thank you for your straightforward review. I hope you will be satisfied with the solutions and explanations I offered in my email today. The installation crew felt that since the project was incomplete (carpet left to do) and the home was vacant that they could put cleanup off until the end. They were wrong. Our policy is to tidy up the work area EVERY DAY during a job. The ceramic tile we installed in the bath area and closet is rated for residential and commercial and has the highest durability rating possible for ceramic tile, better than many porcelains. All ceramic is not created equal, so to speak. I sent you a full spec sheet and would be happy to provide you some extra tile to keep in the event repairs are ever necessary (at no additional charge). Most importantly, I am glad you expressed overall satisfaction with the finished job. A good result is, after all, what we strive for. Please contact me directly if there is anything else you need. Everything went okay. The only thing is the offer stated flooring installation. So I purchased the offer exactly for that, but the offer is for purchasing of flooring along with installation. I have the flooring already, so I need just the installation. But they will not honor the offer, because I had to purchase the flooring through them.

Thanks, member. I am sorry this didn't work out. To clarify, the issue is that we don't install client supplied flooring at all. Our policy is to stand behind our products and service 100%, without exception, and this is simply not possible if we are not the source of the material being installed. As with most policy, this one is based on hard experience and lessons learned. We trust our current and potential clients will understand. After reading all the great reviews on here, I called their office on Friday(9/26) morning to schedule a time for an estimate. to install hardwood floor for my entire downstairs. The lady in the office answered and took my info and scheduled me for next day 9-11AM. I cleared my schedule for Sat morning, so I can meet the them at my house, had to arrange for someone else to pick up my kids as they have activities on sat morning. Waited and nobody came, at 9:40AM, I called the office again to see if they are coming, got the answering machine. Kept on waiting till well after 11AM, no one showed up, no phone calls. I think they just completely "forgot". I am quite disappointed. UPDATE 9/30 -- The owner(Dan) send me a letter on Monday explaining what had happened. The reason he gave seemed reasonable to me. Dan seemed genuinely wanted to correct this situation. So I agreed to a second appointment for them come and give me an estimate. Michael came to do the measurements at scheduled time(actually a little early), and brought some samples. He was able to answer all my questions and address my concerns. I feel a lot better after talking to Dan and Michael. I have bumped the overall rating to a B for now, will provide further updates if I do decide to use them to install my floor. I will probably change it to an A after all is said and done, UPDATE 11/11 -- I decided to hiring Flooring Direct after checking with couple of other companies. Flooring Direct offered me a very good price(although not the lowest). I wanted to hire someone who will provide great service even after the sales and installation, and the way Dan had responded to the initial situation impressed me enough to believe that they really care about customer satisfaction. So, I decided to hire them to install engineered wood for my entire downstairs. The install crew came on time on a Monday, and finished everything by Thursday evening. I was home during the whole demolition/installation process. The crew were very skillful and professional. I was originally concerned that they may damage the base trim when they take them off, but they were very careful in pulling them off, and didn't make any major damages to base boards like I was afraid of. I am glad that I hired them. A week after installation, I noticed some areas had some glue residuals not cleaned up. I called the office, they responded quickly and sending someone over to clean it up and left me with some of the glue removing solvent. The office called back couple times to make sure that someone had called me back to do the cleaning. All in all, I felt they were very professional and provided great service. UPDATE 08/04/2015 -- Noticed a couple of the wood pieces have the top portion bubbled up. Called the main office, they sent someone out to take a look the same week. No problems at all. They scheduled someone to replace the bubbled pieces in couple weeks. The inspection guy Chris and the repair guy both asked if the floor was damaged by water. With the rain we got this year, that's a fair question to ask. I told them no. I have not spilled water, no has outside water came into that room. Also I pointed out the pieces bubbled up are in the middle of the room, not along any walls. The repair guy confirmed what I said, the bubble was not due to water, it was due to some wood pieces are slightly too wide. As he tried to replace the bad pieces with brand new wood, and the new wood would not fit perfectly in the original spot. They are just slightly larger, less than 1mm or so wider. He could try to squeeze them in, but it would probably bubble up again due to pressure from 2 sides. He tried using other pieces, all the same result. So he had to trim the replacement piece down slightly for a perfect fit into the slot. If the owner/manager is reading this, perhaps they can call the wood company(Earthwerks), and let them know. All in all, Flooring Direct was very pleasant to work with. I am extremely happy with their after-sales service.

We didn't forget. The system we use to schedule visits crashed before Karen saved your information. We looked you up on Google, White Pages, and even pored through our phone logs in an attempt to find your number. We could only hope that you would call on Saturday when we were late, and Karen stood by checking voicemail every 10 minutes to try to catch your call. This was 100% our fault and we are changing our procedures because of it. From now on, the first thing we do is WRITE DOWN a name and phone number so we have a backup in case of systems issues. If you see this response and will call me directly I will do everything in my power to insure you get the deal of your life on your new floors. Dan Ratcliff President 972-679-6426

The initial visit was done later in the day on our schedule. Wonderful! Very thorough and informative. The installation was right on time. I contacted Don Potash, a salesman with Carrol John's Flooring, to come and give us an estimate to replace the carpet in our upstairs area with carpet that matches the carpet they installed for us downstairs two years ago and replace the carpet in the half bath with vinyl planks. He was able to come quickly and to send the estimate within a day or two. The workers came exactly when promised and were done within 6 hours. They removed all of the old carpet, vacuumed the floors, removed the toilet and sink, installed the new vinyl planks and carpet, and cleaned all the areas that they walked through. They did a wonderful job and I will heartily recommend them. If we ever need flooring in the future, I will use them again.

We got an prompt callback setting up an appointment to have their salesman come out. When he came out we went into extensive details about the need to use self-leveling compound in the dining room to make the floor even. Salesman said they did that type of leveling using bags of self-leveling compound (SLC) and that we'd be charged $30/bag for that service. His line was "You make it flat: we make it level". He repeated that so many times that my wife and I went around chanting it for the whole demolition process. By the time the installers came out, we had the floor down to plywood subflooring. Although not the lowest bid, we signed up with them based upon their Angies List reputation. The contract specifically called for extra floor prep (in a boilerplate checkmark/write-in that was a bit ambiguous) for about 100 SF at $30/bag. Based upon the discussion with the salesman, we requested that the installation manager come out and inspect our work and confirm the job. He came out promptly and pronounced everything ready and said that it should be an "easy" job. Installers arrived promptly and within a couple of hours told me that they had NO instructions to level the floor and that it would be $70/bag to level it using SLC. We immediately called our salesman who was in an appointment. His V-mail said he'd call us back in several hours and he sent us a text message confirming that he'd call back. A couple of days later he still had not called back (thus the "B" grade in professionalism). Installation went smoothly for several days until it came time to do the dining room that needed the SLC. When the installers again said that they were not going to level the floor, the head installer said, "It's not that much of a problem. I like it the way it is". (There was about a 1.5' difference in elevation of the floor). I responded "My house. My money. Level it". I then called the salesman again and asked him why he hadn't returned my call. He said that they NEVER leveled floors. My response was that when they took my money they did level floors, and that's why it was in the contract. We then scheduled a Monday morning meeting with the installation manager to discuss it. He repeated the "no leveling" line and we told him to tell the installers not to come out: we were halting work on the job until the issue was resolved. By this time we were getting a bit ticked off. The installers showed up about 30 minutes later and we sent them away telling them that the job was halted. An hour or so later we got a call from the owner, Dan Ratliff, who was very professional and who agreed to honor the contracted $30/bag rate so that we could "get this oxcart out of the ditch". Final story, the job was completed to our satisfaction, although the installers did not do any type of threshold for the 1.5" rise into the dining room. We ended up doing that ourselves. Lessons learned: 1) Don't depend upon a checked item on the contract to cover anything that you need specially done. If the contract doesn't go into detail, attach your own amendment specifying EXACTLY what the agreement was. 2) Salesmen have one job: to sell the deal. Keep that in mind. In spite of the issues, we're happy with Dan's company. At the end of the day, he did exactly what he contracted to do, at the agreed price, although we had to stand firm when the employees didn't want to fulfill the contract. The installer, Mario, was an artist. He laid most of the tile himself, and his work was just about perfect. We'd use them again, but we'd be a little more careful at the contract stage. Better for the contract to be too wordy than not wordy enough.
Description of Work: Installed about 750 SF of tile in kitchen, dining room, sunroom, pantry, laundry room and bathroom in100-yr old historic home. Put down 1/4" Hardibacker board over the subfloor before tiling. Extensive leveling needed in dining room. We ended up doing all the demolition and removal of old flooring ourselves.

[member name removed], thank you for your honest review. At the end of the day I would agree with you, that communication was the biggest issue between our sales and operations people about what the meaning of "level" is. In general, installation people like to use the word "flat," but you had made it clear during your initial consultation with Tom that you wanted the floor in that problem area "leveled." I don't think that information got back to operations. At any rate, I am glad we could make you happy and still get an overall "A" review. Again, we all make mistakes; it's how you deal with them that separates a real service company from the "wanabees." I hope we can serve all of your future flooring needs! We had every single floor replaced in the entire house. The work was completed in the exact time and for the exact price we were quoted. We could not have been more pleased; from the time Michael came to our house to measure and prepare the quote to the last tile laid by Mario. We were wondering if we were crazy to do the whole house at once but it was completely worth it. The floors look perfect. We cannot recommend them more highly.

My Sales person Kelly C., is THE reason I went with Flooring Direct! She, along with the people I dealt with over the phone in the office were all so friendly and helpful in every way. Kelly came by my home and brought samples for me to choose from. Once I made the decision and all measurements were taken, she wrote up our contract and got the ball rolling. Once the product came in they called and scheduled the install. On install date, I will say the team was later than I felt they should have been, then once they got here, the team leader left the other 2 helpers working, to bring back breakfast, then they broke to eat. They just got here. I'm a little baffled at that. My opinion is they are here to do a job....by 10:00 they should have already had breakfast and ready to go to work. We were here for install. All went well. We're crazy in love with our floors and the job the guys did. Here's my only complaint. But this will not stop me from using them again, is that do not have protocol to keep dust from cutting under fireplaces and door facings or any other dust factors, from spreading through out the home. I was clear in letting my sales person and after alittle while, the install Lead that I have asthma. This company is wonderful in every way, but lacks in this area. It took me and my husband till midnight install night, and most of the following day to get the dust cleaned up. Now they DID use a shop vac to vacuum I'm guessing. But that does not leave the floor or furniture clean of the very fine dust from the type of work they perform. That's unacceptable. After an install the floors and your home should be fairly showcase when an installers leave so that when the customer sets eyes on their new purchase they should be excited and happy and not dreading clean up at 8:00 at night after an already long noisy day. I had left out to grab dinner for my husband and I. On my return, the Team had left, and left my home a mess! I shouldn't have left. Had I been here that wouldn't have happened. My husband was so rattled he didn't know what to say. I Did call and report this to my sales person, and also Fanny in the office. The company did compensate and was very, very apologetic. They DO care and are on top of their game in that area. :) Just so you know, we have had construction in our home before, they have always put up dust shields and covered the vents to keep the dust from spreading all over the home. It would seem Flooring Direct has been in the business long enough to know the dust protocol for an inhabited home. I could understand it it was new construction. Anyway...would I use them again? Yes. But now know what to watch for. They're in it to make you happy. I believe that. :) UPDATE TO DAN'S COMMENT In response to Dan's comments dated 9/8/2014 Not sure any draping was done, HVAC vents were not sealed, shoes were not covered , ( as a matter of fact, after they tracked in wet grass from my yard I asked them to please preserve the front area carpet that they later placed our older carpet down to protect....I appreciated that alot ). Dan, no disrespect, but I do want to bring up that saying that this is a "construction" business afterall and sort of implying that the guys might, or might not follow your procedures to protect the customers home and belongings does NOT make "not" protecting our home Okay. If you're going to work in an inhabited home then great! Enforce your policy like any other professional business would. Otherwise it might be that you lean better towards new construction that doesn't have to follow any policy of homeowner consideration. But since your are in the residential side as well...I'm certainly glad to read you'll be using this to better your processes. Like I said....we love our floors and appreciate your help with installation.

Thanks for the positive review! We do everything in our power to prevent dust and debris, including draping furniture with drop cloths, sealing HVAC vents and returns and using protective footwear. The crew was professional, detail oriented, responsive, concerned, courteous, and quick. What we thought would be a two day job took a little over one day. Cleanup and replacement of furniture was done to our satisfaction.

We thought the sale and install were flawless. Our floors look fabulous!
Description of Work: Our sales associate came out to our home and showed us several samples. He was very helpful when we told him about our goals for the house and our budget. Instead of trying to upsell us, he listened carefully and helped us select laminate flooring that would meet our needs. We were so pleased with the way he treated us. He also took the time to walk us through the entire process which really helped set our expectations. We thought it would take a few weeks to get it scheduled and were pleasantly surprised to have the install scheduled the following week at our convenience. The installers were punctual and took great care when moving our furniture and cleaning. The job that they did was fantastic and they worked tirelessly over the course of two days. We were so pleased with their work and their great attitudes.
This was my third time to use this company. Michael Patch was prompt & helpful! Jaview arrived on time with his crew and work was finished swiftly
Description of Work: Removed old carpet, treated floor, installed new pad and carpet in small 9'9"x10 guest bedroom.

Let me start from the beginning. Terry was my sales person. He came out and showed me both hardwood and laminate and did not try and sell me on the hardwood, but of course, the handscraped hardwood is what I liked and chose. He gave me a price, but not in writing. The price was great! It was within my budget! I later emailed him and asked him to email me the quote, which he did. We scheduled a day for him to come out and do the final measuring and writing up of the contract. The day he came out, he told me that he had made a mistake and quoted me for laminate. Why didn't I get a phone call about this instead of hearing about it when I had chose the company and we were sitting down to write up the contract? Against my better judgement, I chose to stay with them. I have a very busy travel schedule and it tood about a month for me to get three quotes and I did not want to have to start again. Also, the review for the installers was very good. I do, however, feel strongly that something should have been one on the price. The second quote he gave me was about $3000 more which put me over my budget. It was wrong not to have a phone call about this BEFORE comming out to write up a quote. 2-3 weeks after the work was done, a customer representative from the company called me and I told her what happened with the quote. She said she would let the owner know and that I would most likely get a phone call. I never heard back from anyone. Again, I feel that what you quote is the price you should honor, unless you let the customer know before they are ready to sign a contract for the work. The installers were very nice and courteous. They cleaned up each day and arrived when they said they would. My only complaint would be that I would have expected that they would fill the miter cuts on the trim and fill the nail holes. Other than that they were very good. I would recommend to the company that they tell the customer just how much dust this will create. Perhaps even have the crew have drapes to cover furniture. I understand that installing flooring creates dust but I had no idea how much! I'm still trying to get all the dust up.
Description of Work: i had hardwood flooring installed in my dining area, family room, master bedroom and closet and upstairs bonus room.

Thank you for this detailed and fair review, Clare. By the time my response posts we will have gotten a chance to speak personally. I am very aware of Terry's mistake on your proposal. In his defense, he was new at the time and I appreciate your understanding that his was an honest mistake. We did not build our reputation by being tricky with our pricing. It is very open, transparent and straightforward. People are human, however, and do make errors. I apologize for any inconvenience we caused. The great news in all this is that you ended up happy and satisfied and I am so glad this is the case. Thank you so much for your business! Dan Ratcliff President 972-679-6426
The kitchen flooring was installed before the carpeting and it was an excellent job. The installer found that the refrigerator water line had a very small leak and the floor under the frig was wet. He dried it and laid the new flooring (one piece notched into the other). Before installation, he removed the old molding around the floor perimeter (saving it for replacement - we liked it and wanted it reused) and after the flooring was laid, her reinstalled the molding (this seemed to be the hardest work - more than floor laying). Looks great! The carpet was late one day in arriving and so everything was rushed when the installers arrived early. They worked all day, for 13 hours. The team was a man and wife and she worked as hard as he. Again, a great job. They moved all the furniture, some of it very heavy (dressers had to have their mirrors removed to move through the door out of the room). I had earlier moved all the nicknaks into the room not being re-carpeted. It filled the room. They laid the new pad and carpet, moving furniture from room to room to do so. At the end of the day, it look great, except that the doors to rooms and closets did not close. The new carpet was about a half an inch higher than the old carpet. It was difficult communicating the problem since they spoke little English and I little Spanish. I got my neighbor to translate. Anyway, I told them that the doors needed trimming on their bottom. They said that they were carpet layers not door trimmers. I called the company and told them the problem. I wanted them to hire a carpenter to fix the door. Turns out that in the contract it says that they do not do doors. I had to hire my own carpenter the next day and he fixed the doors. Should have paid more attention to the contract. I am pleased with the job by Flooring Direct.
Description of Work: Flooring Direct installed laminate wood flooring in the kitchen and carpeting in the rest of the house (all but one room).

[Member Name Removed], Thanks for this excellent, detailed review. Almost all carpet is manufactured in and around Dalton, GA, and often the heavier, designer styles like the one you selected are not produced and/or cut until you place an order for them. We try to avoid delays as much as possible but they can and do happen. I'm glad yours was only one day! With respect to the door trimming, we try our best to anticipate such things and set expectations accordingly. We never want to say, "It's in your contract." Thanks again for your detailed comments. They are vital to our constant efforts to improve our efforts to give the best consumer experience in the flooring industry. Dan Ratcliff President 972-679-6426
