We had an old Federal Pacific electrical panel in our house. There were many articles written about the panels failing and setting houses on fire. We started searching on Angie's List for an electrician to evaluate the panel and replace it. The firm was running a special and we signed up for it. The price was reasonable and we compared the cost with other friends that had their panel changed. Ours was a pretty good price. The electrician showed up on time the day they were going to replace the panel. They got to work right away and installed a good panel (Square D). They upgraded the strength of the circuit breakers and also installed a grounding rod to protect the house from any electrical surges from lightning. I have had other electrical work done at the house and the other firm offered to upgrade my electrical service. I explained that is was already done and showed them the work done. They said Electricians of Dallas had done a good job and used a good panel for the electrical service. They also commented that we had received a good price quote for the work.

Easy to set up the appointment. When the electrician first got here, he sought to sell me a new breaker/service box to replace the one that was installed when the house was built in 1982. He indicated it wasn't due to hazardous design or overloading, but that it didn't have one of the more modern features of a single switch cut-off for the entire box,. Once he understood that I just wanted the surge protector installed, he made a call to get some additional information and installed the surge protector so that it covered most of the circuits on the box, but not all of them, indicating that because of the design, it wouldn't cover all the circuits.

I got the Angies list special for whole house surge sulpression. I called, set up the appointment, checked their website for the type of equipment they usually used, etc. When they came the job took about 45 minutes. I had them leave the box for the surge suppresor so I could save for the warranty information. I was shocked when I read the information and it only covered replacement of the part itself. It was a $30 Square D part, so for 45 minutes work and a $30 part I paid $199, and there was no coverage for my electronics or anything else. I called Electricians of Dallas and they came and removed the suppresor and refunded my money. I appreciate that.
Description of Work: I had a whole house surge suppresor installed that was an Angies List Deal.

See above for the details. It would not let me cut and paste.
Description of Work: They had to move the breaker box and the service outlet box (I think that's what it's called) to the outside of the house. I had to be gone all day, because they had to turn the electricity off. The service man who came out to assess what was needed said it would take five to six hours. When I spoke to the owner, he said it would be closer to 10-11 hours. The owner was right, and it was a challenge to be gone all day. The workers discovered that they needed to go under the house and so they had to move stuff out of a bedroom closet to have access to underneath the house. When they went down under the house, one of my cats followed them down there. Withiin a couple of weeks, we had a full blown case of fleas on the cats and in the house. The flea problem lasted a good two months plus. It may not have been caused by my cat going under the house, but I didn't have much control over what was happening. Not being an electrician, I cannot fully evaluate their work. Likely my house is much safer and I certainly have more power in the house. It was an expensive venture and they tell me there is more to be done. The flea episode has kept me really busy so I have not had a chance to get back to the electrical issues. These are nice people and I think they are professional, but the time estimate became a problem and it would have been good to have them be on the same page about it.

Serviceman was on time, polite and performed the work in a relatively short time, athough additional time was spent as he went out shopping (twice) for breaker (additional $20 for breaker, as best I recall) from Lowe's and Home Depot. Inspection of breaker box appeared limited to that required to install the surge protector. In fairness, for the price, I'm satidsfied, but would prefer contracting with businesses a bit closer to home.

The electrician was thorough in his inspection, testing and explanation to me.
Description of Work: The electrician performed a series of tests on my circuit breaker to find out what was causing the A/C circuit breaker to trip. He also checked all connections of the A/C to the circuit breaker. He could not recreate the problem but did provide a possible cause of the problem. His explanation of what he was doing and how both systems connect was clear and I was able to understand the situation. He treated me with respect and courtesy throughout the visit. I also thanked him and the owner of the company for coming out the next day I made the call. I will highly recommend Electricians of Dallas to my family and friends. Sincerely, Esther from Plano

This was a pleasant experience. The best thing about it, I had used one of angie's special deals. The tech said I didn't need the special deal. I explained and showed him the problem in both rooms and he fixed them. He explained what was happening and why. He was very professional and knowledgable .
Description of Work: He upgraded an outlet in the bathroom that was 12 inches from water and also stopped it from blowing the switch when the dryer and curling iron were on at the same time. In the Kitchen I had 4 outlets on the same circuit. He divided the circuit and now I feel much safer I could probably have all in in use at the same time.

Having watched a lot of Holmes on Holmes, I knew the importance of having a whole-home surge protector (plus some friends of mine didn't and when their house was struck by lightning, they lost a ton of equipment.) So when this Angie's List Big Deal came through, I couldn't pass it up. Overall the service call went well. The electrician was quite a bit late as an earlier appointment had gone long. I called the main office to switch to another date, but apparently the electrician didn't get that notice and showed up in the early evening. Luckily we were home and he was able to install the surge protector. He did tell me he thought our breaker box was not in an allowed location. However, I informed him that I bought the home five years ago and had a licensed electrician replace the entire breaker box/obtain the proper permits & inspections so everything was fine. He didn't push to upsell me on moving the breaker box and simply added the surge protector. He was very helpful and had me take photos of the installed surge protector and said I might be able to get a discount on home insurance by sharing with my insurance provider that I had this installed/show them the "evidence." I am very pleased with the service. I completely understand that sometimes previous jobs can run long affecting my later-in-the-day appointment. And in the end, everything worked out and I'm very pleased with the surge protector.

The work was done as part of an Angies List special deal. The work was done properly (I've done enough electrical installation work to know what I see) and efficiently with new material and including the upgrades that I asked for (two addition circuits were added in the garage). The electrician that did the work was polite and communicative. He contacted me on schedule to advise me as to when the work would be done. He showed up on time and worked efficiently with a minimum of disturbance to the house and existing equipment. He answered all of my questions about the system in the house and educated me regarding the electrical code so far as adding additional circuits to the box in the future. The new box works well and has already protected us from a circuit overload that the old box had not detected or isolated.
Description of Work: Electricians of Dallas replaced my electrical service entrance breaker box. The old box was a 200Amp Federal Pacific box, approximately 35 years old. That type of box is a known possible hazard. They replaced it with a Square D box of good quality and added two extra circuits in the garage per my request..

I called the company and the contact person was very friendly and set up an appointment. The day of the appointment I waited until an hour into the 3-5 time range and called the company to see if the electrician was in route. The electrician was at another job and couldn't make it that day but set up a time for the next day (Saturday). He arrived early and said he wanted to make up for not completing the work on Friday. He was very nice and it took 15-20 minutes to add the surge protection device to the electrical panel. Most of the time was taking the panel off and putting the panel back on. The actual addition of the surge protection device was 2-3 minutes. He said not to remove any surge strips I already had but this device should protect everything in the house unless there was an direct lightening strike. He gave me the papers in the box (warranty) and after he left I read the material and looked up the device on the internet. The device installed has a 2 year warranty and is limited to the cost of replacing the device and does not cover replacing anything in the house it didn't protect. Most other whole house surge protection devices have a $25,000 replacement limit if the device fails. The cost is little more for the device but would be worth the additional protection. I checked online and the cost of the installed device is $37 at Amazon.com. (product code is SDSA1175, Square D 120/240V, 3 wire). In the future I will ask Angies List to provide the exact equipment and check it out before purchasing an Angie's list deal. The device is the lowest possible whole house surge protector available and doesn't have great reviews. I expected better from Angie's List Big Deals. This isn't a deal.Be sure to find out what the equipment is before you buy. So the bottom line: the device costs $37 (probably less wholesale) and labor is $162 for 20 minutes of work and the drive time. This deal is overpriced.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal. The deal is $199 for a whole house surge protection which requires adding a square device to an electrical panel. Be sure to find out what the equipment is before you buy.

Response from Electricians Of Dallas LLC
All customers are encouraged and welcome to call me Vincent (owner) with any grievances they might have with our products and/or services. Although we don’t give 100% satisfaction guarantees, we have given full refunds to customers that were completely dissatisfied. As for square D, we are fully confident in square D products. They have the best reputation for putting out the best products on the market. As for where we buy our equipment, we find it necessary to buy our electrical equipment locally to serve our customers more efficiently, rather than buy them online.

I've learned that a large part of what one is paying an electrician for is not the actual work, but dealing with the city inspectors afterwards. Electrician Bill was an absolute saint in dealing with the city for me. We had some initial scheduling issues at first that appear to be related to the way they're listed at Angie's List, and one minor "oops" on scheduling where an appointment didn't get passed on from scheduling to the electrician. The work was well done, and while there was one part of my problem (a set of 3-way light circuits with asymmetric neutrals) that Bill couldn't (cost-effectively) figure out (I eventually spent several hours on it myself, and I debug complex computer systems for a living) every thing else was taken care of thoroughly and effectively. But the best part is they're just such nice, honest, nice, and downright neighborly folks. All my interactions with the Electricians of Dallas people were friendly. They took the time to understand questions, think about answers, and make sure the job done was the one I needed, and done the way I needed it done. I'd happily refer my non-technical friends to them, with the highest confidence that they'd do an honest job.
Description of Work: I needed to upgrade a load center (probably adding a sub-panel, maybe a meter base) , run a new circuit for a water heater and replace some existing breakers with arc fault breakers.

We have three breaker boxes in the house. Two on the main floor and one in the downstairs study. When we had our heatpumps replaced we found out the 40 year old breaker boxes were shot (we bought the house a little over a year ago). Electricians of Dallas was running an Angies List special and we took advantage of it. Vinni came out and did an excellent inspection of the wiring/boxes and gave us a quote. It was about half of what another local electrician wanted so we decided to replace all three boxes. He noticed some things that we not up to code and some things that should be corrected. We opted to do the code work and save the other stuff for Fall. On the day of install the crew arrived on time, placed tarps over the carpeting and proceeded to work. It took them about 12 hrs to do the job. The work was excellent. The crew was professional. Very pleased!

Joe called and asked if he could come earlier than scheduled. When he arrived, he checked everything that could be causing our problems (flickering, buzzing lights and bulbs burning out). We were also a little concerned about another problem that may have been a coincidence, so he checked our breaker box and make sure everything was in order. I was impressed with his thoroughness, his willingness and ability to explain everything to us in detail, his professionalism, and the fact that he left everything tidy when he was finished. I will definitely call Electricians of Dallas again and I will ask for Joe!

I had an Angie's list coupon from a Big Deal to install a new circuit breaker for $1,499. I had been wanting to do it for some time since I have an older home that had an old Federal panel that I had been told probably didn't even work any more. Vince arrived around 8:00 in the morning and it took approximately 8 hours to complete the job. They cleaned up pretty well. Before they left I asked if they called the City to let them know they had finished so the building inspector could come or if that was my responsibility. They said they would call. The following is why I marked them down on responsiveness: By Friday the city had not come to inspect the job so I called Vince on the Friday 3/10 and he said he needed to come back and ground my hot water heater before he called the building inspector. His journeyman came back on Monday 3/12 and grounded the water heater. I called Vince on Wednesday 3/21 to inquire about the building inspection and he said he was waiting until he could come out and meet with the inspector but he was so busy with all the Angie's List Big Deal business he received he hadn't had a chance to call for an inspection. He said he would call me the day before he was to meet the inspector. Called again 3/29 and told Vince I would like to finalize the job by getting the inspector out here. He said he would go ahead and call it in so I could get an inspector here Monday, 4/2, but he would not be able to meet him. He said if the inspector found anything that needed fixing, he would come out and make sure it was up to code. The inspector came Monday 4/2 and everything passed.

Every project has it's problems and this project for me was much more than I had anticipated. Vince and his crew handled it with a great deal of prefessionalism and completed the project as agreed to in terms of my expectaions and price. I certainly feel that I got great value for the dollars I spent. I feel confident in saying that Vince probably would like a "do-over" when quoting this job. It was a tough job that Vince got done - and more importantly - did what he said he would do. It is hard to find people that are commited to keeping their word. For that reason alone I would choose Vince for any future projects that I have.
Description of Work: There is no doubt that this was a challenging job - for anybody. I am remodeling a 43 year old home and the wiring was done by the person that built it - my step-father. This all started with the advertised special of a 200 amp breaker panel replacement. When Vince arrived I asked him for a quote to do the remodel work in the house. I showed him around, he tooks some pictures and agreed to send me a quote for the work. I received the quote promptly and agreed to the price. A crew came on the agreed to start date and began the work of removing the old breaker panel and doing the demolition. This took about 7 days to complete to "rough-in" for inspection. I know that Vince had only allowed for a couple of days but he never faltered on price. After rough in inspection was complete I called Vince to schedule a date for installing switches, etc for the final. He came out on the day agreed and began what would take a couple of days of work to finish.
