Absolutely fantastic! We are so thrilled with the work Pinckard Landscaping did in our yard. Our back yard was a neglected mess. Now it is an oasis. Sandy came out and designed landscaping very specific to our needs. Then her crew came (with Sandy there guiding them) and went way beyond our expectations. Where we thought they would do a little, they did a lot! The gentleman who runs her crew, Savino, is an artist. He pays attention to detail and added elements we did not even anticipate. Lovely! The only flaw I would have in this service is their estimation of the work date. There were a few small weather days, but the planned day and the actual day differed by three weeks. They are so very popular - as their work is so good - that they were just overloaded. The scheduling would be the only place I would suggest better planning. I went ahead and put an "A" on punctuality because on the days they did come they were on time. Other than the delayed start - we are thrilled! It was worth the wait and we just love Sandy and her crew. The fellows worked extremely hard all day long and still were very kind and had smiles on their faces. We would use them again in a heart beat and suggest them to all of our friends!
Description of Work: The folks from Pinckard worked on our back yard. Sandy, their designer, came and worked with me on the design. She is very clever and creative and had a lot of ideas when mine were lacking. We have a live oak in the back of the yard - the only tree. Around the back of the live oak, the folks put in a beautiful raised garden area with a number of fantastic plants surrounded by pave stone set in concrete in the ground. They did an area in front of the tree which tied in to the area behind and looked like a little patio. This was created with pieces of flagstone meticulously laid with grass planted between the stones. This was a perfect place for our new garden bench. Another small garden area was updated and completely re-done with matching pave stone (set in concrete) and new plants, soil and mulch. They re-did another area with pave stone and added river stone, per our request. By our new storage barn, they built steps. We expected them to simply layer flagstone for these. They actually built steps with cinder blocks and cut and concreted the flagstone around them!!! Beautiful! They had extra pave stone and asked if we would like them to use it to surround a couple of other plants in the yard - no extra cost. WOW! Yes, of course! They added sod and grass in areas where it was needed and cleaned up the yard (where we had it a bit junky). Then they cleaned up all that they had brought....tools, extra material, rocks, mulch (they asked if we would like some of this added to our front gardens - again, no extra cost - WOW again!). Our driveway, which a few hours before was covered with all of the stuff used in the yard, was clean as it could be! It was amazing! Love our new yard and really love Pinckard landscaping!

For the past several years, we have had standing pools of water in our backyard, and attempts to correct it were not successful. We went on Angie's list to find someone and hired Lon Pinckard, and we're very glad we did. They did this job without damaging any of the sprinkler lines in the back or plants along the side of the house. (When finished they checked the sprinkler system, and all worked fine.) They had to dig through some very hard red clay, and they also had to remove several large stones that had been placed along the property line on the side of the front yard. Grass in that area was cut into small rectangles and placed back on top when finished. (The ground has not sunk in that area and all old grass and new sod has done well after a month.) The crew laid down wooden planks to protect the landscape when bringing in the wheel barrows with the stone to be placed in the drain. Lon's crew were very hard workers and seemed to take pride in doing the job right. Several neighbors came over and looked at the job done during the process, and all were very impressed with the workmanship. They did an excellent job, and Lon was present at the beginning and end. It was evident he wants the homeowner to be satisfied with the work done. We would definitely recommend him.
Description of Work: Lon Pinckard's crew put in a 150 foot French drain with 4inch PVC lines, 3x9 steel drain inlets, and 2 down spout connections from our backyard to the street in the front. They added 20 yards of sod in the back where water pooling had killed the St. Augustine. They cut a perfectly slanted hole at the street curb not far from where a neighbor broke through the curb to put a hole for his French drain.

Outstanding! After pulling his information from Angie's List for my +70 year old parents, they contacted Lon about repairing the +20 year old pave-stone retaining wall that was sagging in several areas. Lon was on-time for the appointment. According to my father Lon "was very polite, personable and thoroughly professional. He took the time to examine the wall, explained why it settled over time and what needed to be done to correct the situation." After establishing the price and setting the schedule, Lon explained that his crew would show up around 7:00 AM - 7:30 AM and would work throughout the day to make the repairs necessary. Much to my skeptical father's surprise, the crew was out working at 7:00 on the morning they were scheduled to begin. My father told me "They were some of the hardest working people that my he'd ever seen. They went about the business of rebuilding the wall without any problems at all. They were tidy, stopping during the day to make sure the sidewalk was cleaned and passable by neighbors. They didn't litter the yard with fast food wrappers or leave any trash." They completed the scope of work in one day (as expected). Here's the astonishing thing - The crew returned the next morning (again around 7:00-7:15) to review the work before moving on and they decided that two sections of the wall weren't exactly correct. Without any guidance or comment from my father, they rebuilt the two sections until they were absolutely perfect. My parents were amazed that Lon and the crew cared enough about their little project that THEY wanted it to be perfect, even though it meant another 4-5 hours of work. My father stated that after talking with Lon for 15 minutes, you could tell that he wanted everyone to be happy with his work. My father has already recommended Lon to 3-4 other family members and friends.

They were fair and knowledgeable. Their services they offer were impressive. Right now I do not have the finances to complete the work. Their customer service is spot on. They responded right when I wanted them and arrived exactly on time. They were very professional and I would have used them had I had the money right now.

The property behind our property is about two - three feet higher than our property. During heavy rains or a very wet rainy season, water from this property pours onto our property. We had previously installed a "dry" creek bed to collect the water; however, this creek bed continually filled with mud and had to be cleaned out and relayed. We needed a more permanent solution. Lon suggested a concrete gutter faced with stone against the fence to collect the water. he also installed french drains to pull excess water from the yard and drain to the street. Workmen were on time, conscientious, polite and professional. The trenches for the drains were properly dug 2-3 feet deep, drain pipes perforated and wrapped and rock surrounding the pipes installed. The drain at the street was cut through the concrete creating a very neat hole at the street instead of the lazy way of breaking the curb as I have often seen done. Workers cleaned up after completion. They also had to relay the dry creek bed and worked with me until I was happy with the result. Lon was always available by phone and came by regularly to inspect the work and progress. Because of the major holes dug, the sprinkler system was completely checked to be sure everything remained in proper working order.
Description of Work: Installed a concrete "gutter" faced with decorative stone running about 90 feet at the back fence line to catch significant drainage from the adjacent property causing erosion on our property. Also, installed french drains to help alleviate the water collecting in portions of our back yard when it rains.

Everything regarding the installation was performed without any problem, except that replacing the sod was not included. And I thought that it would be.
Description of Work: French drain, 130', installed from rear of house to front curb with 4" PVC pipe. With 2 gutter down spouts. I was told by another highly rated company that perforated corrugated pipe, rather than perforated PVC, was the best type to use on a french drain. I knew that it wasn't' and Mr. Pinckard confirmed it. They claimed that soil movement would cause the PVC to come disconnected or break. A total load of bull. The corrugated is cheaper and much easier to install, doesn't age well, and the uneven interior can cause more problems. And, the price was slightly cheaper for Pinckard's.

Called Lon and set up a time to get a quote. Lon arrived about 30 minutes late, but called before hand to let me know. Was quoted $2240 for the drain to include tying in 4 gutter down spouts, 5 ground drains, and drilling out through the curb. Got a second quote from another A list company, but it was $200 more and came with $350 additional if a jack hammer was required. Lon called to check in and I talked to him about the differences in the quotes. He said no extra for jack hammer and agreed to resod the trench area. So I mailed in 50% and got on the waiting list, expecting 2-3 weeks. It was 1 week and they were ready to get to work. Lon arrived about 5 minutes before 8 the morning of the job and went to work marking the trench line. His crew arrived about 15 minutes later. I wasn't home when they found the White Rock Escarpment, but they did rent and use a jack hammer to get the trench dug. They finished up about 7pm with the sun setting fast. The next day the neighbor called concerned about the St Augustine used to cover the trench (we mostly have Bermuda, but I had asked for St. Augustine due to the low sunlight between the housed) and a misaligned sprinkler. Lon came out and fixed both issues. Sprinklers have been run several times since, and no standing water. So everything appears to be good to go. The B for price, is good but I don't know enough to give an A or lower grade. The B for professionalism is the crew, understandably had to use the restroom through the day. Unfortunately, that meant some part of my yard. I am not sure where but the smell was rather noticeable. 2 sprinklerings and it is good again. I wish they had just used the hose and rinsed it off/down.
Description of Work: About 100' French drain on east side of property between our house and neighbors out to street. We had standing water under the fence for up to several days at a time.

Lon Pinkard provided estimate in person on 10/7. Returned 10/13 to do all work. Workers were extremely professional and did their jobs as directed. Lon even went to Loews to purchase paver steps and a watering hose for me. Thoroughly pleased with everything - only minor negative is that front patio tiles were left with muddy foot prints. I am sure that if I'd asked for a 'clean-up' prior to their leaving it would have been performed.

When Lon Pinckard, the owner was here, everything went well. The worker that was in charge of the project, Sandy, made the entire process difficult. She kept telling me that they weren't able to do the work that I had requested. She also said that several things weren't in the contract, when actually they were. The quality of the work was good, but I had to ask for things that should've already just been done.

Response from Pinckard Landscape Services LLC
Thank you for taking the time to read my response to this report. We strive for excellence – in both the quality of work we perform and the customer service we deliver to our clients – and I feel this is very clear in all of our other reports on Angie’s List. As the owner of Pinckard Landscape Services, I do want to express my regrets that this client was not completely satisfied with their experience with our company. However, I do feel it is very important to highlight the reasons why these customers (husband & wife) may have graded us so low. From the initial visit, it seemed as though the customers had differing opinions on whether or not to have the Landscaping work performed at that time. Once we were hired for the work, it still seemed the clients were not in complete agreement, and my designer was placed in a tough situation. This did lead to a personality conflict between my designer and one of the clients. When the clients requested additional work be done – work that I never did or did not approve my designer to do – my designer did not agree to do the work without discussing it with me first. This was work that was not in the contract, but I would have gladly approved the work at that time (we did perform the additional work at no additional charge). Once the work was completed, the clients stated to me that the job looked great and they were very satisfied. To say the least, I was quite shocked at the feedback when I read the Angie’s List Report. I sincerely apologize to this client that we did not do everything we could to insure their satisfaction with our service. Again, thank you for taking the time to read my response. Being this is my first report in which we received a grade below an "A" (where work was performed), I will admit – I am disappointed. As I mentioned before, we strive for excellence. With this particular project the customer felt we did not uphold our standard, and if the customer feels this way then they are correct. We will learn from this, and make improvements in the areas the customer mentions in the report.

There were 3 houses involved in this drainage process. We split the total cost of the work. We could not have gotten a better company to complete the work that was done on all three homes. Pinckard was very professional, fast and did an extremely good job. They also replaced the grass that was removed to do the drainage work. We would definitely use them again.

The crew arrived early the first day and worked for about 10 hours in the August heat. Notwithstanding the 100+ degree weather, they were always cognizant of their surroundings (i.e., pool pump PVC pipe, electrics, etc.) and maintained professionalism with all details. The job was completed on the second day, and the crew made sure to clean the work area, as well as any debris down the curbside of the street. The quality of the work is outstanding and I could not be more pleased!
Description of Work: Lon installed a drain from our pool pump and side gutter, under a concrete patio and across the entire span of our back yard, which included removing much where a previous owner decided to fill a removed pond. A connecting drain from a more central point in the yard was installed as well.

We had an excellent experience with Pinckard Drainage and would recommend them to anyone.? Lon has a high level of drainage expertise and experience as well as a well trained crew.? They used only the highest quality materials and did not cut any corners.? They leveled out the crawlspace under our house, installed a sump pump, and installed french drains on all 4 sides of our house.? Lon did not hesitate to guarantee his work.? His crew was very courteous and clean and there is no more water under our house!

I contacted Lon Pinckard approximately 3/22/2010 to do a complete makeover of a portion of our backyard. I picked him because of his excellent record on Angie's List. He came out and we discussed what we wanted done and asked for suggestions. He took the information and returned with a proposal on 03/29/10. It turned out to be a little more than we wanted to spend, so we discussed revisions and he worked up a new proposal immediately. He informed us he was quite busy and would be about three weeks before he could start. He called about three weeks later and said he could start the next day. He and his crew showed up then and started work. He is very efficient at supervising a crew and the whole project was completed in three days. As with most projects of this scope, problem areas arose as he proceeded and we were able to make changes rapidly and equitably. At all times, Lon was cordial, personable, and easy to work with. At no time did he pressure us to do things we didn't want. His crew was friendly and cleaned up any messes at the end of the day. They always used a leaf blower to clean sidewalks, patios and driveways.

I called to get an estimate and Lon came the next day. He checked all our yards and told us what he thought would fix the problems. He gave me two estimates with different ways to fix the problem, so I could decide. I told him I would talk to my neighbors and get back to him. I called him to come back and go over it with my neighbors and he was here within a day and met with all of us. Once we made the decision, he said he would start the middle of the next week (because it was raining), and was here the next Tuesday. He and his crew started early and worked late and finished the job in a little over two days. They were neat and took special care to replace all grass that was removed. When they were finished, you could hardly tell they had been here. It has rained the last two days and they are working well. I was extremely pleased with Lon's professionalism and friendliness and the way he and his crew conducted business.
Description of Work: French drains were added to fix the standing water problem in my yard and my neighbors on one side and behind me. Lon figured out how to connect our french drains together to solve all of our problems which in turn saved us some money by allowing all of us to split the cost between us. It solved the problems in my front and back yard, my neighbors side yard, and my other neighbors back and side yard.

It went very well. Lon is a consummate professional and a man of integrity. His business practices are a model of other independent contractors to follow. He showed up when he said he would, stayed in touch between the time he came and gave me a bid and the time he was able to work us into his schedule. His crew came and worked hard the whole time and did a terrific job. My neighbors are very impressed with the work he did for us and with how hard his crew worked the whole time they were here. In addition, Lon may be one of the nicest people I have ever hired to anything for me. He is terrific. His price might have been a little higher than other contractors, but I doubt anyone's work is better.
Description of Work: Major (to me) rehab of existing landscape. I have actually described this in fairly great detail in the "lawn and yard work" category, but realize that perhaps I should have put it in here. I urge anyone looking for someone to do a rehab of an existing landscape to read his reivews in all categories.

We live on a corner lot and have a rather involved landscape with several flower beds, including one extremely long one. There are a lot of plant materials in our landscape or different varieties. For a number of reasons, I have not been able to maintain the landscaping for the past two years. I realized that I wasn't likely to have the time to do it this year, either. In the meantime, everything had just gone wild, and all the shrubs were in need of serious pruning and reshaping. To make matters worse, shortly after Lon came to give me the original bid, we had a 12-1/2 snowstorm that damaged two large shrubs (really more like small trees---a wax myrtle and a cherry laurel that were 8 years old) beyond repair. So we had to add removal of those two items to our original plan. Lon stayed in touch with me as he worked to complete two other jobs that had been delayed because of the snow. We finally hit upon the opportunity to get started. He and his crew arrived promptly at the appointed time on Friday. There were 3 or 4 men that day, and they worked very hard all day. They came back the next day with Lon's son and another guy and worked several more hours. When they finished, everything was left in great shape, all the plant materials that had been cut off of shrubs and trees were hauled away, including a pile that my husband had stacked on the curb when removing some of the wax myrtle branches that had broken away from the snow event. All in all, everything looks back in control. I am planning to have Lon do some regular maintenance throughout the year for me, and I also expect to hire him to resod areas of the lawn that died because of excessive shade from some of the shrubs and the redbud, and maybe even to plant some as-yet-undetermined large shrub to replace the "hole" in the landscape caused by the removal of those major elements that were damaged from the snow event. He does a great job and is wonderful to work with. He is great fun to talk to, he is punctual for appointments, he communicates regularly to stay in touch until the work can get done, and he cares about his work.
Description of Work: Lon's crew performed a basic rehab of our landscape. Shrubs were pruned back and reshaped. Branches were removed from multi-trunk crape myrtles. Three large shrubs were completely removed, as was a redbud tree. Flower beds were cleaned out. Leaves were raked up and the lawn was mowed. All flower beds were mulched. All materials were hauled away.

I joined Angie's list to find good contractors. I picked this contractor due to the high rating he has on Angie's list. Unfortunately, after having set up the appointment a week before, he called me the day of the appt to cancel. I understand he didn't want to come out today because it was raining, but he ended up declining to come out at all when he "found out" that price was important to me. This was confusing to me since I explained upfront a week ago that I would have 3 contractors bidding and that I was ?very much a cost-benefit type of person?. Who doesn't want quality work at a competitive price? My beef is not that he declined to bid, but that he waited a week, until the day of the appt, to tell me. Now, I am a week out and I need to find another quality contractor to bid on the deal.

Response from Pinckard Landscape Services LLC
I received an email from this client requesting a bid. He had included another landscape companies design and plan stating that I was to bid against 2 other companies and had also said “honestly I will look at the prices and then decide what to do”. I contacted him and set an appointment to give him an estimate. The day of the appointment, it was pouring down rain. I called him to reschedule the appointment to evaluate the job in better conditions. During the course of the conversation, once again the client emphasized that cost was a significant factor. After further discussion, I explained that I am usually not the lowest bid due to the quality of my work and my experience. I am, however, very competitive when bidding against comparable companies. Also, I mentioned that requesting a proposal on another landscape companies design raised concerns for me that this was going to be solely based on the lowest bid. He said that he paid the other company for their landscape design so it shouldn’t be an issue. I understand that he paid the other company for their design, but the other company had already invested their time and efforts with this customer and it appears he is seeing if someone else can undercut them on the installation. Although that is his prerogative, I’m not comfortable with it. I made him aware of my feelings that I may not be the right contractor for him, but offered to still come out and give him a bid. My only regret is that we didn’t have the in-depth conversation earlier and that he feels he was inconvenienced.

Immediately called us once referral was made. Gave estimate within a day. We'd been trying to get this project done for six months and people would fail to show or not call back. Very pleased- he showed interest in the job, showed daily and finished up before the rains came again.

This is the second retaining wall that Lon has built for me. They are both beautiful walls. Lon and his crew were able to finish the wall in one day. You can tell by the quality of the craftmanship that they take pride in what they do. I have used other landscapers that were on Angies's list and was satisified with their work but Lon will be the first one I call when I need something done. I can't say enough good things about Lon and his men, they are just that good.
Description of Work: He built a 71' X 3' foot stone retaining wall.

I was very satisfied with the professionalism of Lon and his installation. I highly recommend him to anyone needing drainage solutions at their home.
Description of Work: I have had a continuing problem with drainage from my backyard area even though many years ago another company had installed a french drain system. I noticed on Angie's List that Pinckard Landscaping came highly recommended for their work solving drainage problems. I had Lon come out and give me ideas on how to improve the drainage in my backyard area. He designed a solution that has been excellent at draining the problem area in the backyard and alleviating water buildup and ponding. He installed an extensive french drain system with improved french drains and 4 inch diameter PVC drain pipe out to the street.

Lon and his team were fantastic from start to finish. Very professional and courteous. Lon really knows his gardening and landscaping. He's got a great eye for detail and went above and beyond in all aspects of this project. We'd certainly use his services again and recommend him to others.

Lon came out and consulted with us. He made some very good recommendations based on our personal situation. We ended up going with all his recommendations. Lon handled getting the arborist and irrigation specialist lined up. He then managed the project for us. The job was done on schedule and within budget. It looks great.
Description of Work: We had our front yard sodded and had a flagstone path installed. We also had an arborist do some tree work and had someone upgrade our irrigation system.
