This was a very good experience from start to finish. Lon was prompt in returning my call, coming out to give me an estimate and his crew did a professional job that looks great. The quality of the sod they put down was excellent. They cleaned up after themselves and really I couldn't be happier with the whole experience.
Description of Work: Lon's crew prepared the area, added top soil and put in sod in large sections of my front and back yard. His people also put down a stepping stone walk using flag stone that I already had.

We put the job out for a couple of bids. We liked Lon's bid the most and we also felt like his attack of the problem was less complex and would carry away more water than the other bid. It also happened to be 40% cheaper. His crew worked for 2 days well past dark on one night to complete the job. Lon came out afterwards to inspect and found a couple of items that were missed and fixed them that day.
Description of Work: We were having drainage issues around the house. They installed drains to the street to help alleviate the problem.

Lon used quality materials and the entire job was completed in 3 days. I have never been happier with a contractor than I was with Pinkard landscaping. The job was done quickly, with no problems and the site was cleaned up to the point where you could not tell recent work had been done. Truly amazing job on both the french drain and retaining wall.
Description of Work: Replaced a failing railroad tie retaining wall with stone including drainage in the stone retaining wall. Installed 700 ft of of french drain inlcuding tying in 2 downspouts and providing 6 drains throughout the heaviest areas of standing water. His team had to remove a deck on the back side of the pool to install the drain and also tied it to an existing french drain and fixed the pool overflow drain and connected it also.

My first service with Pinckard Landscape occurred when my aging Bradford pear tree needed to be replaced. I heard about Pinckard Landscaping from one of my neighbors so I contacted them to get some recommendations and prices to replace the tree. Lon Pinckard arrived promptly at the appointed time, went over my needs, discussed several options with me to consider. After I made my decision on the type of tree I wanted, Lon provided me with a written estimate with a guarantee and a timeline by which he could complete the work. My total cost for the tree replacement was $1,450.00 After speaking with several other companies, I decided to have the tree replaced by Pinckard Landscape. Lon Pinckard went to great length to ensure I selected the right tree for my needs. He then personally selected the tree and he and his crew planted it . The tree has done very well. As a result of my positive experience with the tree, I decided to switch my landscape maintenance to Lon's company. They have been performing my landscape maintenance for several years now. Lon Pinckard is an honest professional landscape company owner who wants to make sure his customers receive good quality service for their money. I have been very pleased with the service his company provides and plan to remain a customer for years to come.
Description of Work: I have used Pinckard Landscaping to provide a landscaping plan, to replace an aging tree, as well as provide on-going landscape maintenance for my home.

They showed up and went right to work, and within half a day they had a big section of the work complete. The owner was on site a lot of the time, and was asking good questions, making sure I was happy with things as they progressed. By the end of the day, they had knocked out the project as agreed. There are a couple of minor outstanding issues, but Lon, the owner, will be out in a couple of weeks to take of them. Overall, it went really well, good guys and good work.
Description of Work: I needed some sod cut and removed, the ground to be tilled and the soil amended, edging put in, two boulders placed, some irrigation lines moved, and two trees planted. This was the major prep and install work for a new landscaping project in my backyard.

Overall it went well, we are pleased with the work and the quality of the bushes. The owner came out himself, was very professional and straight forward with pricing, schedule, etc. The only thing we were a little dissappointed with was we specified red rocket crape myrtles to be installed and they actually turned out to be dark pink. At the time when they were planted the bushes were bare so we had no way of knowing until we started getting blooms. We would recommend Pinckard Landscaping and we will probably use them in the future for other landscaping jobs.
Description of Work: We had 6 wax myrtles planted in the backyard along fence line for privacy and 4 crape myrtles planted in backyard as well.

Due to my home sitting on a slope, I have battled erosion problems for years. I finally had to admit I need ideas and help on getting the landscaping done that would help reduce and/or stop the erosion as well as looking good, adding value to the home and functional. I called a total of three landscapers. Two were not from Angies list and one (Pinckard) was from the list. Of the two that were not from the list one showed up said he would work up the bid and get back with me---he never did. The second person came out, told the estimate--- but didn't seem to excited about having to do it one step at a time . There was no way I could afford to the whole yard at one time---- be nice but just many issues that add up in cost. Mr. Pinckard arrived on time and was open friendly from the intital contact. I began showing him the issues with the yard and my concern was the total cost. I explained I would have to do the work at stages as I wouldn't be able to afford the total cost for the whole yard. Mr. Pinckard expressed different ideas that would address the most urgent needs, then we talked about the additional work that could be done later. A bid was given for each of the ideas as well as the time frame. Mr Pinckard was more than willing to do the work in stages and what I could afford. He also suggested a great tree guy---- before the yard work could begin some tree work needed to be done. I was able to decide to tackle two of the problems areas. About two days after we initially met, I called Mr Pinckard to let him know what I had decided. He was able to work me in within the week. His crew showed up as planned. They were polite and profoessionl. After the work, they cleaned up as well as discussed how I needed to water. And, how I should juggle the dogs so the new sod would have a chance to grow a food firm foundation . I still have some more work that needs to be done and will have no hesitation on having Mr. Pinckard come back for the work. The work that was done will give me a good head start and who knows depending on how the new grass and plants grow, the additional work may not have to be as intense. The price that I was quoted is what I was charged. There were no "surprise" unexpected issues. As soon as I am able, I will continue with the additional landscape needs and will use Mr. Pinckard service.

Updated:Mr Pinckard returned to the house and had crew redo the tilling job on the side of the house and even offered to till in soil amendments that I had purchased. Asked contractor to return and remove roots that were not removed. This is what good service is all about and more service providers should be so concerned wth customer satisfaction.

Over the past few months I have had bids on replacing my retaining wall but all were very expensive. I called Lon Pinckard out to quote a retaining wall replacement. He came out exactly when he said he would and was very pleasant to be around to converse with. He took the time to understand me and my needs and then gave me his bid. The bid was much better than his competitors and he said there was only about a 2 week lead time to have the repairs done. Almost hired him on the spot but still needed to speak with my wife. We ended up accepting his bid. The scope of the job included removing the completely worn out and rotted railroad tie retaining wall and replacing with a natural stone wall. The wall itself was about 3.5' high and 60' long. The location of the wall posed a big challenge as it was in the rear of my property behind my fence line and the only access was through the entrances of the water easement that runs through my property and were many properties down the way. His crew ended up taking down my fence and accessing from my yard. He brought his mason over to view the property and within 2 weeks I had a phone call from Lon telling me he had an opening and could get my wall done the next day. I left for work early the next morning and returned during my lunch break to see the progress. I arrived and there was a huge pile of natural stone in the roadway along with emergency cone placement to direct traffic around the debris. One guy was churning and making the mortar to hold the natural stone in place while 2 guys were hauling stone to the back of my property. Once I got in the backyard I could see that there were an additional 4-6 guys constructing the wall. They had removed most of my fence to gain access and already had the old wall removed from the entire property and about 20% of the new stone wall complete. I was pleased with what I saw and left the property to go back to work. Ended up leaving work early so I can pay the guys hopefully before they went home. Got home and the entire project was complete and cleaned up. I went back to check the wall out and I was amazed at the quality of work and the speed in which it was performed. I would definitely hire Lon for similar work if needed. However, not all reviews are 100% good. There are always pros and cons to every situation, I believe. The one complaint I have is where his workers could have taken a little more caution as they were pretty rough with my existing landscaping of plant material. Quite a few of my plants/flowers were broken at their bases due to the dumping of stone in the backyard. Fortunately, the plants damaged had multiple stems so they were not destroyed. I understand that my yard is small and that the plant material made it a huge challenge to maneuver and the staging of stone and mortar was problematic. That is why I am not holding this against Lon or his crew but to use this as a way for them to catch constructive feedback/criticism about the service. Again, I would definitely recommend Lon and his company to do more work for me and I invite others to use his service. And for the record, Lon has made every effort to contact me and replace any damaged material. They also did some landscaping work for my neighbor across the street including hardscaping the flower beds and that too looks great.
Description of Work: Remove old , rotted railroad cross-tie retaining wall, dispose of old materials, and replace with a mortared natural stone retaining wall approximately 3.5' x 60'.

Lon arrived and we walked my property while I pointed out where I receive uncontrolled run-off from my neighbors and from my own roof; I also explained that I thought french drains should be installed to carry the water out to the street. After careful review, he said I didn't need french drains, I needed to control the surface run-off I had and offered me a quote on this service instead. After explaining what needed to be done, I told him I could do this work. In hindsight, I probably should have asked for a quote but didn't. I will call Pinckard Landscape Services if I determine the job is too big to handle. Thanks for your honesty and professionalism Lon.

Lon was very effective in making certain he communicated with us on every aspect of the job and he made sure we were fully satisfied with the work that was done. The workers showed up to work on time and didn't leave any messes behind. He's an honest contractor, which is not easy to find these days. We would most definitely hire him again. The only negative aspect of this experience was that Lon recommended someone he works with often to do the painting on the trim of our house, Luke Boren. Luke Boren spray painted the eaves of our house and didn't cover the new roof at all. There was overspray in multiple areas on our new roof, when he finished painting the eaves. He said he'd reimburse us the cost of having those shingles replaced and never did. Be sure you don't go with Luke Boren, based on Lon's advice.
Description of Work: Lon installed drains, attaching them to six downspouts on our home because I had a huge problem with erosion. I also hired him to remove a retaining wall that was made out of wood landscape timbers. In it's place he installed a very nice, limestone retaining wall which the drains connect to, so that the runoff from our downspouts runs into our ditch.

He had a tree service come in and remove 4 large (20 ft+) Post oaks. Then his crew came back and spent a whole day removing other small trees/bushes, remove pave stones, level and till soil. The second day, they added new top soil, layed sod and left the place looking like a model home. We would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Lon and his crew did a major overhaul on our backyard. He had an arborist come in to help determine which trees needed to go and to do the removal. His crew then took out a number of bushes, leveled the back yard and layed sod. All the guys were very nice and professional. It was a 2 day job and they cleaned at the end of each day.

Sandy responded promptly to our initial request. It took only a few days for our schedules to align to meet. She provided a plan in less than a week of our initial meeting. She then met at a later point with us to review the plan and change up some of the plants. We agreed on the project at this time. The work was scheduled about two-three weeks later. All work was completed within 2 days. The entire team, including Sandy, worked very hard. The end result is a beautiful yard. The team was professional, cleaned up everything upon project completion, and were just a pleasure to work with.

I moved into my house one year ago. The house sits on a hill and receives a lot of drainage from the properties up above. There also happens to be a natural spring at the upper edge of my property that drains down under a retaining wall along my driveway. I learned that the drainage along my driveway and adjacent retaining wall had been a problem as long as any of the neighbors could remember. The water is iron and calcium chloride rich so it had a tendency to leave a reddish or white residue on the driveway that had to be washed off constantly. The water gauge out front by the curb under the lawn was also constantly flooded with water. I had several people out who assured me it was drainage from the hillside and not a leak from the pipes. Pinckard was prompt to come by and give an estimate. He took a look and came up with a plan to redo the existing french drain with an extension to better drain the front yard with a connection to drain the water gauge hole. The workers were prompt, and showed up the day that they planned. I received a call from the Mr. Pinckard ahead of time to let me know exactly when he would be there as well. The work was smooth and took one day longer than expected because some hidden (previously unknown to me ) underground concrete beneath the old front drain that had to be removed He called me to inform me of this and promptly took care of the problem. After the french drain was installed the area was thoroughly cleaned and the turf on the lawn in front was meticulously replaced. They left little trace that they had done so much work. The french drain is functioning like a charm and areas that I assumed would never be able to be drained are now quite dry. I'm very pleased with the result, and I'd certainly call him back for another job like this. A+ rating for sure.
Description of Work: French drain installation. Replacement of an improperly installed older french drain around 200 feet long with an extension to the front yard underneath the driveway. This required a strip of concrete to be removed cross the driveway with repouring of concrete after the drain was placed. An incidental find of a concrete "floor" under the old french drain had to be cut out and removed. A strip of lawn had to be removed and preserved and was later replaced after the drain was placed.

The entire experience was excellent. Sandy came out and spent plenty of time looking at the yard and asking questions to understand what we wanted. Her suggestions and overall plan were right on the money. It was about two weeks from the time she gave us the quote until they were able to come do the work, but that's what I would expect for this busy time of year. Sandy and a crew of four people spent the entire day here and we are amazed at how much they accomplished in that period of time. Everything they touched looks fantastic. They cleaned up well after themselves and they were all polite and helpful. Perhaps most impressively they worked at 100% the entire time they were here; that hasn't been my experience with other companies in the past. The level of service and the value met (or exceeded) our expectations in every way. I would not hesitate to recommend their services again; as a matter of fact, I've already given Sandy's card to two different friends.

Came out to check a drainage problem and found that the problem was possibly not a drainage issue. Called Lon and he returned my call promptly and and we set up an appointment. He came on time and bid the work. Lon subcontracted the patio and arbor and did the drainage himself. I am very happy with how the patio and arbor looks. Of course there were glitches. The concrete subcontractor ruined a few sprinkler heads but Lon replaced them for free. The arbor subcontractor blew out a gfi outlet and Lon paid for an electrician to replace it. The arbor subcontractor did excellent work when all was said and done, but was untimely about returning phone calls, or doing the installation when promised. Lon is very knowledgeable about drainage systems and did an excellent job. Lon is very personable, stays in touch, is very timely when returning phone calls, and takes responsibility for other people's mistakes, including his own. He even went beyond his drainage bid and installed several more feet of trench for free as well as dug up and repositioned several old drainage grates for free.
Description of Work: I needed a drainage system installed from my back yard to the street. In addition, needed a 12x14 concrete patio poured as as well as an arbor constructed on top of the patio.

Lon Pinckard came out to provide estimate, very professional and knowledgeable. Gave me honest feedback on what would benefit our needs and wants versus our budget. He promised the job would be done by Halloween (our request) and the job was completed well in advance, October 10th. Extremely happy with the work completed!!!! They cleaned up everything and the compliments are awesome. We will definetly use and recommend Pinkard Landscaping.

After contacting Pinckard landscaping via email, Lon contacted us to set up a meeting with Sandy, the landscape designer. Sandy met with us to get ideas. Using what we liked and didn't like, she came up with several ideas and sketched out a design. Lon also came out to give us suggestions to fix the drainage issues in the back yard. Overall we are very pleased with the results. Unfortunately, some of the shrubs did not survive the extreme summer this year. Lon was contacted and informed us that he would replace those plants under his 90 day warranty. Working with Lon and Sandy was a pleasure. The crew was very professional. We highy recommend them.

This is our first experience using Angie?s List and we are now big fans! We had 15 years of a neglected front yard that needed landscaping and a retaining wall desperately. We read all the reviews and Pinckard Landscape was the one that stood out the best, so we called them. Lon came out promptly and talked to us and we were impressed with him. We then hired Sandy, his designer, to draw out a plan. She was easy to work with and listened to our input and came in at our budget. Then we decided we wanted to cut the budget and she worked with us to get it to our reduced budget. She was very patient with us. We actually had 4 major areas done. One was to replace our 15 year old retaining wall that was leaning. Pinckard Landscape Service replaced the wooden wall with a beautiful stone wall. See first two pictures below of before and after. Second area they did was landscape under our trees in the front yard. We had let it have the ?wild? look for years, but it was getting more ?wild? than we wanted. Sandy?s design and implementation transformed our front yard. See next two pictures below of the before and after. The third area was the ditch in the front yard. Again, we are pleased with the new look. See the next two pictures below of the before and after. The last area was our flower beds. Again, you can see the wonderful transformation. See the last two pictures below of the before and after.
Description of Work: 1.) Remove 120' wood retaining wall (which was in the stage of falling down) and replace it with a stone mortared wall 2.) Landscaped under a tree area with flagstone, chopped block stone, deco rock, Japanese Maple tree, plants and mulch 3.) Line our ditch with River Deco Stone 4.) Re-do our flower beds in front of the house with plants and mulch

This contractor spoke to me at length on the phone about a house which I had optioned which had a significant drainage problem (being on a slight hill, etc.). He clearly knows his stuff very well and, had I not terminated my contract on the house due to mold and other issues, I would certainly have used him to install a proper drainage system.

I had found Pinckard Landscaping on Angie's List with great reviews and so I called him for an estimate. I also called another Angie's List landscaping company and a local company for bids as well. To tell you the truth, Pinckard was near double the price of the other two bids. The reason I went with him was because of the details he told me he incorporated into his projects that the other companies did not; and that made a difference in the quality of work I received. The stone edging was flush with my house line as opposed to the lawn which really makes a difference when looking at it from the road - it is aesthetically pleasing. And his crew also created drainage tubes in the edging to allow excess water to drain and not flood my plants. He's got a great crew that was professional and hard-working. I am very pleased with this company and he told me he has already gotten another call from my neighborhood because they saw his work at my home.
Description of Work: I was wanting some stone landscape edging around my flower beds in front of the entire house including stone edging around two live oak trees in my front yard. In addition I wanted some shrubs repositioned and the entire bedding, including 2 pool beds in the backyard, installed with potters mix to prepare for planting.
