I believe I have told the entire story above. UPDATE: One of our other contractors noticed issues with the work that Tim had performed. At that point, they just noticed that the framing was not level. We have now learned that the support has been compromised. It isn't falling in, but there is settling. That settling has affected the hardwood floors, the drywall repair, etc. This is all as a result of the company telling us that they were not compromising a support wall. The work they did has required further expenses and additional work on our end. UPDATE: The contractor did submit a claim to his insurance company, and the insurance company did offer a financial settlement for the damages.
Description of Work: We contacted Tim about our interest in opening up a wall in the interior of our home to give more openess to our family room. Tim came out and explained how he would approach the job and I decided that increasing a 3 foot doorway opening to a 5 foot cased opening would be what we would want done. The job would consist of removing the existing paneling on one side of the wall and reframing the larger opening and then cutting away the drywall on the other side. Two light switches would also need to be relocated. His estimate was for labor and the casement (wood trim) was the only material he needed to purchase. He did not include staining the trim work or any repainting of the areas. The day the work was performed Tim had a framing carpenter work with him and the helper seemed to know more about how to approach and complete the job than Tim did so it was done in a simpler and easier way . They were not able to complete the job because the casement was not ready when promised since they had needed to change the size . The next day,Saturday, Tim brought the unfinished casing materials for my husband to stain and returned on Monday to install it. He worked alone that day and did not really seem to know how to fit the woodwork to make it square out properly. He had to do a lot of trimming and ended up saying that way the best he could do because of one side of the facing being out of plumb. We paid him the agreed upon price. It was a couple of months before we were able to proceed with the redecorating due to finances, etc. but when we were ready for the hardwood floor to be installed, we realized one side of the jamb would need to be trimmed and I called Tim to see if he might come back out and do that. His attitude was that we could let the floor people take care of it or we could go buy or rent the proper equipment and do it ourselves. This was not the kind of customer service we have received from the other pros that we have worked with and I regret that we did not shop around more before we hired him to do our work. But, live and learn!!!!
