Small Time Movers

Overall experience was Excellent. Spoke with owners on the phone initially and they recommended 3 movers for our job. for $95 an hour. This sounds high at first but 2 movers cost $85 so for $10 more you get an extra person and they definitely do alot of work each. The men called us on their way to our home and showed up promptly at 9am. They were all very polite and courteous. They wasted no time and got to work fast. They were very careful with all items and navigated the 3 levels of stairs professionally with all the heavy/bulky items. They pretty much emptied our entire 4500 sq ft home (and packed the PODS extremely tight) in about 4 hrs. The men only took about 2 breaks for 10 min or so, which we were fine with given the efficiency at which they worked. They could have easily dragged this job out another hour or two if they were slow. Overall very happy with Small Time Movers.. wish they could help us unload all this into our new home in FL. We'll be checking Angie's List for some movers when we get there.

After arranging for the move and a written extimation of servies, they showed up on time, wasted none and had the move accomplished in the estimated time. Everything that need taken down was put up as good as new at the new location. My daughter was totally please with the service. Recommend them to anyone who needs a wuick and efficent move.

After seeing the positive reviews here about Small Time Movers, I called Bill and Deborah Thomas and told them we'd need help with three separate moves in December/January. Within a couple of days, they arrived to see what needed to be done and to give us an on-site estimate -- one that was strictly adhered to with no additional or hidden costs and included an Angie's List 5% discount. Our first move was to a small apartment in SC and Bob and his very courteous crew arrived promptly and loaded a truck we rented and drove ourselves to SC. Another mover unloaded the truck at the destination. Our second move was a two-pronged one -- moving some of the furniture from our TN home to Atlanta where my son was moving and then going to Gainesville, FL, to unload storage units there and then back to my son's Atlanta home where all was unloaded. All went smoothly with no problems and very quickly. The third move was the remaining furniture and all the effects from our large home in TN to storage units in SC. Bill and his crew made this trip overnight and used only three of the four storage units we reserved earlier, saving us money each month while our home is being built in SC. He also picked up a bedroom suite in Atlanta at my son's home and took it to SC. On the return trip, he dropped off the storage keys to my son as we would no longer be in TN but would be arriving in Atlanta for the night on our way to SC. During all these moves, Bill and his crew remained courteous and helpful and did whatever was asked of them and more. They always showed up early, made sure to put down cardboard over the hardwood floors to prevent damage, and packed and wrapped every item securely before loading on the truck. Although we did alot of packing ourselves, we also had quite a bit left for Bill's crew to pack, as well. Bill said he wanted to take the stress out of moving, and he certainly did his part! He and his wife, Deborah, are a pleasure to work with and I couldn't recommend them and their crew, Charles, Tim and John, more highly. We plan to call Small Time Movers and ask them to come down and move our belongings from the storage units and the apartment to our new house when construction in completed. We recommend this company highly -- they are not "small time" at all but "big time" movers when it comes to delivering what they promise!

I called in to Small Time Movers about a week before when I wanted to move. It was short notice but they were very pleasant and agreeable - listened to my description of the job and gave me a rough estimate in addition to outlining their rates. Scheduled an appointment was painless and easy. Bill, the owner, and his two movers arrived at 8AM sharp - even woke me up as I had stayed up until 4AM the night before packing. They wasted absolutely no time and immediately started getting to work. This was impressive not just because of the early hour but because the house was only 80% packed when they arrived and a total mess. This was absolutely no issue to them - they moved around the half-packed boxes and didn't mind the strewn about clutter. The two guys doing the heavy lifting were extremely courteous and were friendly and kind. They had no problem working around our cats or other animals either. It took them about three hours to pack up all the rooms and we went immediately to the new location - the drive is about fifteen minutes - they were there in thirty and got to work immediately, having gotten lunch on the way. Unloading and positioning of furniture took another three hours or so for a total of six hours. I never felt like time was wasted or that effort was less than 100%. We had an upright piano moved as well. This took us six guys to get in our house. They moved it with two without breaking a sweat. At the request of the owner (due to it being afternoon on a Saturday right before Christmas) I paid in cash. I accidentally overpaid by $100 but didn't realize my error. That evening I received a call from the owner who had just counted the cash more closely - he informed me of the error and offered to send a personal check to refund the overpayment. That sort of integrity speaks volumes about the character of the owner to me. I was not looking forward to moving at all. In the end the entire process went incredibly smoothly thanks to Small Time Movers. If I ever move again I'll definitely be giving them a call.

Moving is miserable for everyone involved. And Charles, John and Tim seemed miserable by the end of the day, and even before. I don´t have anything to complain about. They moved our possessions and nothing was damaged. Some of the walls and drywall was nicked up, but that wasn't their fault. Some of our furniture simply would not get through the passageways. Other than that everything came out in good shape. He drove the truck very slowly and safely. My only gripe is price. We had a a lot of stuff, but not THAT much stuff. I really didn't think the whole process should have taken almost 9 hours. It was a mistake to agree to pay by the hour. The best way is to get a bid for the whole job up front. I thought that the workers took their time. I'm not criticizing them--I repeat they did a good job--but I'm pretty sure the process would have been speedier had they not been charging me by the hour. Also, a $75 fuel charge to move 5 miles?

They did the job. I say that as simply as that because they were not professional, careful or attentive. They gouged the floor in the new house and stood there in front of my daughter and laughed "OOPS", then they were surprised when I insisted they call the owner to report the incident, who, by the way, 17 days later,has NOT contacted me or returned any of my phone calls! They also broke the leg off my cedar chest and even though the two pieces were there in front of them, they didn't know anything about it? There were other incidents but I think you get the idea! Did they do a lot of work? H... YES Did they do it with a smile? NO Will I recommend they? H... NO

We paid about $95 an hour, which was less than other places quoted us. They showed up bright and early and took good care of my antique furniture pieces (a chifforobe and a bed). Everything arrived at the new house in good condition, and other than a few minor scuffs on the walls as they moved big pieces through tight spaces, there was no damage to anything.

I have moved MANY times throughout my life, sometimes I did the work myself and other times I hired professional movers. Without a doubt, Chuck, Tim & John (The Small Time Crew that completed my move) were the best movers I have ever worked with. The excellent service from Small Time began before they even showed up at my door. We had several issues (problems with the new property and a death in the family) that caused us to have to reschedule our move 3 times. Small Time was understanding and always accommodating. The crew was actually about 20 minutes early arrive at my old home to begin the move. Once inside they were all business and moved at a quick pace. However even with that pace there was not a single bit of damage to either property or to any item that was moved, a first for me. This was not an easy move, as we weren't taking everything and the guys had some stuff to work around. Also, we weren't the most prepared and there were half full boxes and last minute items that had to be thrown on the truck. Nothing was a problem and the guys took care of every request I made. I was VERY impressed that the old was empty and the new house was full in only 5 hours (and that included a lunch break). If you are looking for movers in the East Tennessee area I HIGHLY recommend Small Time Movers (and I am a hard person to please).

Everything went very well from start to finish. This company very professional, friendly and knowledgeable in their profession.

First of all the positives: I would like to say that Small Time movers are extremely flexible, Due to a confusion on the closing date for our home, we had to reschedule atleast 3 times with less than 24 hour notice and they were extremely flexible and understanding. They were extremely punctual, they were not even a single minute late. They did a move an unloading for us when we moved from a different state, I like their quality so I wanted to hire them again, even though some of the competition is more competitive. Now to the negatives: The moving crew we got were extremely unprofessional and became a pain to deal with before the end of the night, they constantly nagged and complained about how heavy the boxes are when especially they were unloading. They were completely fine when they loaded them. They knew we are moving to a two story home, but were particularly angry when we asked them to carry the boxes upstairs. The guys had the nerve to ask us "WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO GO UPSTAIRS? THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!!" They disassembled the bed and said they assembled it, but it kept crumbling apart on us after they left. We reassembled it after they left. They forgot to assemble a dresser and when reminded, they gave us a attitude. There was a trainee with them, who mostly was just standing and watching around most of the time, so at one time when we asked him for help shifting a dresser, he gave us an attitude saying "IS THAT YOUR FINAL ANSWER?" These are just some examples, but all evening we were just dealing with some angry moving crew. I am sorry, We are paying $95/hour for your services, if we want our furniture or boxes upstairs we want them upstairs. This is exactly why we hired you and paying you the big bucks. I used to be a travelling consultant and we have moved multiple times, but have not come across such poor show of professionalism. Small Time Movers have lost my business in the future.

Small Time movers is a family-owned business near Chattanooga, Tennessee. I was very pleased with the fact that they were willing to come up to West Knoxville (roughly 90 miles or so) to pick up this load. I also was pleased that it was going on a dedicated truck. (I had spoken with another local mover and it would have been combined on a truck that was going to Louisiana). They picked up on a Friday night and delivered near Pensacola the next morning. I thought that the price was certainly reasonable. They were careful and did a good job. I would definitely recommend them and would use them again.

Moving is tough and I was worried because if the mover is undependable, late, unprofessional, then moving becomes a nightmare. These guys were great. They were affordable, polite, professional and very careful with our items. Because their price was so reasonable, we tipped them at the end of the day. The owner then turned around and tipped $20 to both my 9 year old and 12 year old because I had told my kids to help move small things. It was a move to a two story home and these guys were very careful. There was one small scratch on a wall, going up the stairs (took me 3 minutes to fix)......only one scratch on a wall after moving an entire home??? I would highly recommend these guys.

I got them off Angie's List. I didn’t pay them; my daughter did. Their estimate was pretty much in line with the other estimates we got. They were fantastic and I would recommend using them.

We learned that our house had sold and we needed to move out five days before we left for vacation in Europe. I called Small Time Movers on Saturday and they had packers at my house the next day, on Sunday. Bill Thomas is amazing, and he is no "small-time" mover. His 38 years of experience, much of it driving for a major moving line really paid off for us. Our household would have filled an entire full size moving van. It included a complete wood shop filled with heavy machinery and was filled with150 year old delicate antiques. His packers were professional and knew how to protect stuff. Bill took care of everything with high efficiency and incredible hard work. He bends over backwards to please his customers. No need to look any further if you want the best, at a very fair price.

I found these guys on Angie's List. They helped move some items from one home to the other and unload our moving storage. We were still living out of state and they helped my father in law take care of everything. He had nothing but wonderful things to say! Great guys, great service! We'd use them again in a heartbeat :)

I found them on Angie’s List, and they were awesome, they were the sweetest things. They were supposed to be at the first place at eight o’clock, I got there at a quarter to eight, and they were already there, I was amazed. When they went into my dad’s home to get this big sectional couch, my dad was sitting in his chair in the living room. The first thing the person did when he went into the house, was to walk over to my dad, shake his hand and introduce himself. He told my dad that I had hired him to get this big couch out of his way, and he asked my dad if it was OK with him. It was the sweetest thing I ever saw, he could have simply ignored my dad. It made an impression on me, and I have recommended them about three times to other people since that happened. In fact, one of my friends is getting ready to move at the end of May, and she has already got him set up. A lot of companies have a minimum charge, and I think they charged me the minimum charge, it didn’t take them long to do the job, but the locations were all in a big triangle. They wrapped those pieces of furniture like they were taking them across the country, and there was nothing else on the truck. I would probably use them again in a heartbeat.

The team arrived at the house on time and ready to work. They had my initial their arrival time (they didn't charge for driving time!) and got to work assessing the move. After understanding the work they quickly started moving the furniture to the prescribed locations. They took great care with our belongings. I have unfortunately had to move many times and had to deal with some pretty bad movers. This crew was one of the best. They were extremely careful with all of the belongings and took care not to rub against walls or ding the furniture. They provided me their expert opinion on how things should be wrapped and packed. They did a great job working in the house while construction began. I was clearly impressed by their pricing. Local companies in the Knoxville area were charging double just to drive out to the house.

The guys were on time and ready to work. They came in and went at it straight away with no lingering or hanging out. They worked as a team and handled everything with care. I would definitely work with them again in the future.

These guys are awesome! They wrapped everything in blankets, secured and loaded onto their truck. Drove 30 miles to the new location and were very patient with me as to where things should go. They also held the furniture up while we placed felt on the bottom to protect the hardwood floors. I highly recommend this company for helping you move.

They offered a 72 hour appointment option when I first called, but when I mentioned that I had hoped for a same-day appointment, but understood completely that they might be booked so would take whatever was possible, they were great about giving me a much closer date which was the following day. Next, we had agreed to a 2pm meeting, but I actually got the call the next day at 12:30 (which was great!) and they were there within 15 minutes. Both guys were very efficient, fast and careful and did a great job, especially when it turned out the alleyway was too narrow to fit the truck and we ended up using a workaround. Everything went perfectly and I wouldn't hesitate to call them again or recommend them to others for future moving needs. I'm very happy to see that the reviews they have on Angie's List were well warranted.

Great move! Very courteous and professional. If I ever have to move again, I will definitely call again.

They were very punctual and hard workers. We did have some small damage with our leather couches but they reimbursed us for the repairs as promised.

Very responsive, very flexible on dates a notice required, and worked hard the entire time. Highly recommended!
