Ty is great. Floors look great, which is the most important thing. He is very professional, courteous, responsive and flexible. He followed up with us afterwards to make sure we were completely satisfied. Customer service was exceptional. Only wish we could hire Ty to do something else around our home. We would highly recommend this service.

Ty and his crew showed up EXACTLY as scheduled, and completed the work according to schedule. They were skillful, tidy and professional. Ty also arranged for a cleaning crew to clean up the fine dust after the floors were done. The work they did was first class, and the floors look great! Ty communicated everything to us fully. He explained what he was going to do, and what was going to happen and when it was going to happen. If I ever need floors refinished again, I will call Brown's Hardwood Floors first!

Ty and his crew are really good. Upon inspection the floors didn't require a complete re-sanding just a buffing and re=coating (2 coats). Ty determined that the majority of the flooring was finished with an oil base finish and the bedrooms were finished in a water base. It was decided to stay with the original coating types. One of the bedrooms had an isolated bad spot where the finish was worn through the stain and it was in a very conspicuous location. Ty's crew was able to re-stain the spot and coat over it. When they finished it looked as good as new. These guys are punctual, reasonably priced and they really know their stuff. My floors look great and I definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: Buffed and re-coated approx. 2,100 sq ft of hardwood flooring throughout the house. They used both oil base and water base where appropriate and applied two coats.

Ty Brown and his men, Kenneth, Jamal and Henry were incredibly prompt, professional and hardworking. When we first contacted Ty, our appointment was set for the Monday after the 24" of rain Charleston received the weekend of Oct 3. I thought for sure he would cancel but he made it at 9:00 am. The quoting process was quick, flooring selection and purchase easy and when they installed the floors last week they were on time and worked so hard to not only finish the job on time, but early! I would HIGHLY recommend Brown Hardwood Floors if you want not only incredibly beautiful floors, but a job that is done efficiently and low hassle.

Ty and his team were fantastic from beginning to end. He responded to every call and text in a timely manner and was always extremely courteous. He is just a true professional through and through and clearly expects the same from his team. There was a very long and very deep gouge going across the hardwood floors in our living room. This was damage caused by a previous contractor. Another flooring company had tried to repair it and only made it look worse. Ty and his team were able to make the gouge completely disappear. You really cannot even see it at all now! The floors look just beautiful. The floors he refinished in the linen closet are a perfect match to the rest of the hardwoods in the house. The transition he installed is wonderful as is the shoe molding. We couldn't be happier with the floor work and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company to our friends.
Description of Work: Repaired a deep gouge in existing hard wood floors, and repaired and refinished hardwood floors in small linen closet. Also, installed transition between hardwoods and tile laundry room and installed shoe molding in living room.

The maple floors are exactly what I envisioned, and were expertly installed. Ty and his crew removed existing carpet and put down the hardwood floors in 6 rooms of my house (three bedrooms, a closet, the kitchen and the main living room.) Ty was easy to work with, he was responsive from the beginning of the project to the end, and went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. Additionally, he listened to what I wanted from the project and had great recommendations to accomplish my goal. The finished product is top-notch work! I would recommend Brown's Hardwood Floors to anyone interested in installing new hardwood floors!

Ty and crew were amazing. Can't say enough about how eager they were to make us happy from the start. Their hustle, quick response time, availability, communication, professionalism were all outstanding. I could not think of a single think to suggest as an improvement. The workmanship was amazing. Even the patch was beyond my expectations. Thanks Ty for a wonderful job!

Ty Brown is a very friendly individual and he was a pleasure to deal with. There was some miscommunication between the location we purchased the flooring from (Lowe's), Brown's Hardwood Flooring, and us as far as who needed to purchase the glue, equipment for installing the glue, the moisture barrier and the quarter round. When Ty came out and did our installation estimate the quote was for $1,625.25. This was a good quote compared to what you will receive from the big box stores and their sub-contractors or specialty stores (like Lumber Liquidator's who quoted almost double that amount). The mix-up on who needed to provide/purchase the additional items needed to install added $590.46 to the above total. We were still very pleased with the final cost for the flooring installation. We wished we would have known about the glue and other items, it would have kept our install from being delayed an additional day. There was a bit of a mess (saw dust covered everything in our garage) that had been left for us to clean up. This may have been caused because we wanted the job completed on a very tight deadline. Either way, it was a bit of a pain to clean up. We had temporarily moved out of the house while the install was occurring and had no issues with the employees freely coming in and out of the home. We aren't sure how often Ty Brown was at the property during the install since we really weren't on site all that much until completion. The work was completed on time and only a couple minor issues: having to inject some more glue where planks had not completely stuck to slab / filling a couple of gabs between planks / a couple of small gaps between plank and the wall near bedroom door = had to be fixed by Ty. These fixes were made in a timely manner and Ty was very willing to come back at any time to fix any other issues that might pop up. We would recommend using Brown's Hardwood Floors and would use them again when needed.
Description of Work: Installed solid plank bamboo flooring in the master bedroom, master bedroom closet, two kids bedrooms and closets. Installed 3/4" pre-primed molding in all locations flooring was installed. Removed and hauled away the old carpet, pad and tack strips from the concrete slab where flooring was going to be installed.

Project went well at a competitive price. Ty and crew did a nice job removing carpet and installing new floor. They cleaned the workspace diligently. He kept coming back to make any needed adjustments. The restaining/refinishing went well with only 1 issue - it would have helped to tape the staircases and trim, since we restained using a darker color.

We selected this company to install our hardwood floors after buying a house based on the great reviews. There were several issues that arose. First we ordered our wood from a company they recommended. The wood was to arrive in 4 weeks, so we scheduled the install based on this date. The wood ended up arriving 6 weeks after the initial 1st month (so 10 weeks total). We kept the contractor informed of the changes as we received updates. When the wood finally arrived Ty said he would work us in around his already planned schedule. No big deal as long as it got done. The initial suggested time frame was 1 to 1 ½ weeks. The crew arrived and removed the old floor and they laid the first strip (no problems there, at first). The problems began after. The next day when my husband was here, 2 people were dropped off to continue with the hardwood. The 2 individuals asked my husband for a roller, brush, tray, and trowel for the glue and moisture barrier. Why did we have to provide the tools for a job that we were paying someone to do you ask, we asked the same thing. We provided the roller and brush and tray, my husband went and bought a trowel to their specs. When they requested something else that was the last straw. He called Ty and asked why was his team not provided with the necessary tools to perform the job. The time frame for our floor also went from 1 week or so to 2-3 weeks because of the delay in our wood arriving. We parted ways with this contractor and they did not charge us for the demolition. However that is not the end of the story. Later that evening we noticed that the first row of wood they laid was curved (I watched them lay this first row and they did not use any chalk lines or levels of any sort). So in turn the 2-3 boxes which they laid were not straight. The moisture barrier was applied carelessly and was on the baseboard above the area where the quarter round would be placed (they were well aware we were not replacing the baseboards). I personally tried to get this off and asked several others how to (flooring specialists) and was unable to with ordinary tools. To top it off, I originally offered the 2 men drinks from the fridge while I was gone and they took it upon themselves to take several for the 2 of them and ended up getting moisture barrier on our BRAND new stainless steel fridge which we had just purchased 1 week ago. The frustration of lack of communication was also an issue and we ended up having no floor for over a month before we could find someone else. Ty made good and removed the moisture barrier from our baseboards and refrigerator after we had to call him and tell him about it. The floor that was already placed had to be removed and at least half thrown away. There was no floor prep (our concrete slab was uneven, one main reason for replacing the floor). I will not use east coast hardwood supply either because they told us we could return the unused boxes (when we originally purchased) and when we took our time to drive down and return them (we spoke with Anthony over the phone and he said ok), we were told by Mr. white (his father) that no we could not return it because it was a special order item (although nowhere on the receipt did it say that or were we told that). We also had issues with the glue although this company blamed the new contractors. This experience ended up costing an extra 2500-3000. When the new contractor ordered our threshold from them (to match) they never received it. After 1 month of waiting our contractor went with another company. I have never had this much frustration and difficulty with a contractor, ever.

Response from Brown's Hardwood Floors LLC
Let me start off by extending my sincerest apologies to the [Member Name Removed]’s. This was a misfortunate event in which a lot of things went wrong. I was not able to complete the work due to the fact that it took longer than anticipated, for the floors to come in. I was however, able to remove the old flooring and do the initial install of the starter board. We were initially quoted the timeframe of 2 to 4 weeks for the flooring to come in. The flooring they selected had to be special ordered due to the type of wood and design they chose. We were later informed by the flooring company, that it would take an additional 2 weeks because it was coming from overseas. Because of the delay, I advised Ms. [Member Name Removed] that I would be unable to complete the work because I already had other clients booked for several months to come. I was able to refer her to another company who had more workers available so she would get the work done in a timely manner. She decided against going with the crew I selected, instead she went with another company. I received a call from Mrs. [Member Name Removed] to inform me that they had concerns about some of the work that was done. We set up an appointment for a visit so that I would be able to examine what may or may not have been a problem. There were minor issues which were promptly corrected within two days. After the corrections were made, the company they selected to complete the work came in to finish where we left off. I made certain that when we left, I was in good standing with the [Member Name Removed]’s. Approximately four months later, I received an e-mail that a review was written from Ms. [Member Name Removed]. I was in complete shock and dismay to see that I was given a grade of “F” when the work was completed by another company. I immediately contacted Mr. [Member Name Removed] in reference the review that was given. He was surprised that Ms. [Member Name Removed] had even written a review. He explained to me that he knew that his wife was upset about the entire situation surrounding the floors and the delay of the wood. He advised me that he was in a meeting but as soon as he returned home, he would discuss the matter with his wife. Days went by and I still did not receive a response from Mr. [Member Name Removed] or his wife. I reached out to him to see if he had a chance to speak with his wife and he informed me that he did. He notified me that his wife was extremely upset about her complete experience of having the work done, the delay in the wood arriving, and the fact that it took longer than expected. He said that he would not be able to edit the response at this time and for me to simply respond. At that point, I was at a loss for words and simply thanked him for taking time to hear my concerns and feeling. I am still however confused that this review was even written. I honestly believe that since she was unable to write a review on the company she was actually angry with, is the reason I am receiving this review. The last conversation we had, prior to me leaving their home, was very pleasant. I was aware that she was somewhat unpleased because it was going to take longer than estimated for the floors to arrive. Though the delay had nothing to do with my company or myself, I apologized for her inconvenience, and when she offered to give me payment, I declined it. The work that was done by my company was done at no expense to her.

Ty was very helpful and accommodating with our difficult time frame. He personally picked up the wood from the shipping terminal and delivered it to our house when the A/C was turned on. Construction on our house was delayed several times and when it finally was ready, we only had a week to get the hardwood done before we had to move in. Ty and his crew worked hard to make sure the work was complete with enough time for the finish to dry. He also came back to add wood filler and fix a few things after we moved in. The crew was a little careless and made a lot of dings and scuffs, but Ty did his best to repair the major ones and thankfully our builder will take care of most of the rest. The floors looks great though, and overall was a great experience working with Ty and I will keep him in mind again if I need more hardwood installed or for refinishing. Thanks!

My experience with Mr. Brown leads me to advise anyone contemplating contracting with him to install flooring, to look elsewhere. His workmanship and responsiveness to my issues were so shoddy, I was compelled to sue him in small claims in Charleston, SC. I won. (Cergnul v. Brown file # 2015CV1011500535). Additionally, in further testament to Mr. Browns lack of character, he did not pay his judgement. In fact, I had to engage the sheriff's office to commence collection efforts. Mr. Brown has yet to satisfy his legal obligation to me (it is the end of the 90 days). Please feel free to ask any questions for specifics and/or pictures. ***12/29/2015*** Mr. Brown has yet to pay his judgement. I am disappointed that Mr. Brown finds the work done to my home, satisfactory. The floor boards buckled because they did not level the floor. They did not replace the drywall the plumber had to cut into in order to fix the water line they broke. This had to be done twice, they didn't turn the water off and remove the hoses from my washing machine before moving it. The molding around the fireplace was cracked, they installed it anyway. Only for it to end up popping off because it wasn't glued down correctly. The floors were not level prior to laying the floors, which has resulted in the floors buckling. He embarrassed me a few times when he yelled at the plumber and the men where I purchased my bamboo flooring. The toilet for my half bath still sits in my garage. They never replaced it. I have submitted photos to give everyone s better idea of how

I would like to begin by saying how unfortunate it is that the work done was unsatisfactory to Ms. [member name removed]'s expectations. Ms. [member name removed] was referred to me by a contractor that I work with on a regular basis. He is familiar with my work and knows that I provide exceptional work and great customer service, because of this, we currently still work together. I spoke with Ms. [member name removed] about having the work done and I advised her that due to my current obligations, I was unable to do the work, however I am able to refer her to someone who had availability. Ms. [member name removed] met with the workers ahead of time and was comfortable with them doing the work. Ms. [member name removed] informed me that her floors were already measured and the wood was already purchased and she just needed to have the work done. During the process of the work being done, there was not enough wood to complete the job. Additional materials had to be purchased in order for the work to be finished. After the completion of the job, Ms. [member name removed] was not happy work and then contacted me. When we spoke, I referred her back to the workers who did the job. After multiple exchanges of text messages, which I still have records of, the contractors informed her that a date and time can be set to address all of her concerns. Ms. [member name removed] never responded to any of the messages. Several months went by and there was still no contact made by Ms. [member name removed], instead she went to small claims court to make a claim against me. We went to court and the judge ruled in her favor. The only reason the judgement was against me, was because we were unable to contact the men who actually did the work. We were unable to reach them due to them residing in another state. I have documentation to prove that was the only reason as well. In regards to the claim not being paid, the judgement clearly states that Ms. [member name removed] and I are to come up with payment arrangements that we both agree on, which she refuses to do. I have contacted her on numerous occasions, which I have records of and she refuses to come up with suitable payment arrangement. I am appalled that she has tried to discredit my character and hold my company accountable. I am dismayed and shocked that Ms. [member name removed] would write a review when the work was not provided by us. This unfortunate review took place over a year ago. Anyone who has seen my work is aware that any work done by Brown’s Hardwood Floors exceeds all expectations. We have always and will continue to provide quality work and outstanding customer service.

Kudos to Ty Brown and his wonderful crew! They did a great job on both projects. I can assure you that any time you have a question or concern, just call Ty (company owner) and you get an immediate and appropriate response. Everyone who sees these floors is very impressed with them, and they comment especially on how well the newly installed floors match the existing (refinished) floors. The only suggestion I would have for improvement would be more attention to clean-up on a daily basis as the job progresses instead of doing most clean-up at the end of the job. I would definitely recommend this company.

We contacted Ty based on his Angie?s List reviews. From the start, he was prompt, courteous and professional. He and his team worked within our narrow window of availability and kept us updated on the progress. Ty was very honest about what work needed to be done and is extremely detail-oriented (even redoing areas himself to meet his satisfaction). He was also sure to meet with us for a final walk-through. We are generally pleased with the work and would recommend him.

When we initially reached out to Ty he was available to come out and provide a quote for us the next day. He was very courteous and respectful when he came out. He got right to work measuring and evaluating the condition of our floors and was done in about 15 minutes. Before leaving he provided us with a calculation of what the project would cost and followed up with a contract and paper quote the following day. After meeting with two other refinishing companies we believed that Ty would do the best job and as a result chose to hire him. On the day that his crew was to start they arrived on time and had our floors sanded down and ready for stain in just a few hours. Over the following days he was sure to communicate with us about where they were in the process. Upon finishing Ty came by to ensure that we were happy with everything and to answer any final questions that we had. He also noted that if we thought of anything else or had any issues to be sure to contact him. His entire team was great to work with; each of them was very friendly and takes great pride in the service that they are offering. We would highly recommend them and plan to use them again in the future.
Description of Work: We hired Ty and his team to refinish our original 1940's oak and pine hardwood floors in our Riverland Terrace home. Our home is about 900 sqft with about 650 sqft of hardwood flooring.
