We decided to call Paul Davis restoration. restoration back in May 2024, believing that they were going to be the answer to the tree that had fallen on our house in January. What we found from the Paul Davis restoration of Greenville and Spartansburg, South Carolina is that they like to cut corners to be able to make more profit than the project they are working on. They Decide what not to do and what to do without regard to the amount of money that has already been paid. This company has provided us with a quote and then decided not to do many of the items on the quote that was all based on insurance recommendation on State Farm’s webpage. This company, Brent Cunningham, Bruce Ko and Case Godfrey have lied, threatened, and have left us with an incomplete home while we were trying to navigate the trauma of having a tree fall on our home. We have pictures of everything that they decided not to do, we have pictures of all the damages , and some of them are provided by their own employees. They allowed their subcontractors to do damage to our home, and we have pictures from Paul Davis restoration showing all of these things that, were in respect to their integrity, showing that they lacked it. Since we have dealt with this tree falling on our house, we believed that by taking on State Farm recommended contractor of Paul Davis restoration that we were doing something good for ourselves. Since we hired this company and signed documents with this company, they have proved that they are shady, coercive, and threatening, without delivering what they provided in a quote. Now this company would like to put a lien on our home for nonpayment, when we still have an incomplete home and haven’t done a proper walk-through yet, mind you we have the final payment waiting for them upon completion minus the things they have not done. This company is not a company you want to hire for anything that would provide you with the security blanket that you think they should provide. I have 120 some emails expressing lack of communication from their side of the company, lack of accountability, and lack of professionalism. At this point, these people are questioning my integrity as to whether or not I’m going to pay a bill that I’ve already paid 3/4 of prior to any of the work that is still not completed. The work has come across as shady, the integrity that they’ve shown has been unacceptable, and how they treated us as the insured recovering from a trauma to our home has been extremely distasteful. I would never recommend these people to anyone, find someone better because these guys find a way to make a profit without doing a proper job.

Great! They were very professional. Dried every thing thoroughly. Treated for any potential mold. Cleaned up all traces of floor removal and returned appliances to their placement. They were very punctual and worked well around our schedule, always calling within 20 minutes of their scheduled arrival time.

The company owner was very detailed when I interviewed to hire him for the project. Once the project got started it was downhill from there. I was never informed when someone was supposed to show or what time they would show. There would be days nobody would show at all. The entire team of people they had working for them had no idea what the others were doing. A "custom" towel cabinet was to be built and the poor fellow, they considered a woodworker, had no clue what he was doing more than I did. I could've looked up on youtube and built it better myself. The last week of the remodel was like a Hail Mary of sorts to hurry and get the job finished up at all cost. This of course left the bathroom looking like a rush job. In the end the mess of the job was left and I cleaned for 2 days. No call to say they were coming back or thanks for your business or nothing.

No communication. 30 day timeframe...still not complete. The use sub par contractors as well as project managers. Avoid the hassle and choose another contractor.

I thought the price was reasonable for what they did. I was unhappy with the communication. I would use them again if I could get a different project manager. The work started after Thanksgiving and went on until New Years, but at least we got it done.

  • One of the two restoration contractors preapproved by my
insurance company was Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling. I asked both
contractors to provide an estimate and both proposals were similar in content
and price. I selected Paul Davis but had no prior experience with them. The
restoration work under the house included replacing insulation, duct wrapping
and reattaching several branch ducts that had come loose from the header. On
the first floor a portion of the wood floor was removed and new flooring
installed. In order to match the other wood floors all the floors in connected areas and
rooms had to be sanded, stained and refinished. Carpet in several rooms had to
be restretched and cleaned. Throughout the process Scott Kerley, the project
manager with Paul Davis worked closely with me to schedule the work, keep me
informed and answer my many questions and comments. The subcontractor for the
wood flooring was Tony Johnson Flooring and the work was done in a very
thorough, professional manner and I am delighted with the final results. Paul
Davis did the entire project to my total satisfaction and I am extremely happy
with the final results of all phases of the restoration. I highly recommend
Paul Davis for restoration or remodeling work.

The Drying process went  very well and as explained and describded by company officials.
The restoration did not go as well.
1: The down stairs garage sheetrocking, took several days to complete,  The sheetrock had to be refinished and repainted several times to assure a proper finish.  It still is not back to origional condition.  You can still see sanding marks and the finish is not smooth as the origional.  In addition their Sub-Contractors had to replace a freezer that was used in lieu of a ladder to finish the sheetrock.
2. The house was pack and place pods in my front yard. This process went very well.
3: The floors were refinished and the house contents were replaced in the home before a propoer inspection of the work could be completed by us the owneres.
4: On Monday evening we werre able to enter our home for the first time since the floors were refinished. the floors have a wavey apperance now.  There were marks in the foyer  as if a dolly had been rolled across the floor.  Paul Davis has offered to refinish the foyer. But our decision to allow their Sub-Contractors back in our home was declined.
5 Antique Furniture was damaged and had to be repaired.
6 Freshly painted walls had to be cleaned where the furniture was pushed against the wall.
7: In the half bath the plumbers marked the wall when replacing the the bathroom fixtures with their shoes
8: Additional water damage was discovered downstairs in the mechanical room. it had to be redone and the adjacent room repainteded.  When we cam home the painters had paited it the wrong color and the room had to be repainted again.

The entire Paul Davis team, from beginning to end, were the best anyone could ever hope to work with.

These people are truely experienced professionals that know how to handle the turn-key recovery and rebuild of a home which has experienced very extensive damage.  They are also very in tune to the stress and disruption a home owner experiences during an event like this.  They take numerous steps throughout the process to minimize the anguish of losing the use of your home for months.

Communication from this team from the very beginning was excellent.  Work progress updates were frequent as well as numerous questions to us to assure they were performing the work exactly as we wanted it done. The focus on work quality throughout the entire project was absolutely superior.  They seemed to be in a continuous state of quality inspections of their work and encouraged us to do the same.

On completion of this project, both my wife and I feel we have a better finished quality home than prior to the event.  The quality of work provided by Paul Davis Restoration exceed the quality of the original builder (custom built home approximately 8 years old).

Someone had found them on Angie's List and that's how we got them.  As we were going over some of the final figures and there were quite a few errors that we found where they were going to basically over charge the insurance company.  Overall, after it was all said and done everything turned out fine.  It didn't turn out fine the first time around, but there is nothing from the work that was done that wasn't resolved.  In our downstairs ceiling some of the boards had gotten water and started to buckle.  There were several attempts made that weren't very good to fix that and they looked bad.  I had to get firm with them and tell them I wanted the job done right or else I wouldn't sign off on it.  At that point they did get the right boards, installed them properly and everything looked sharp.  That was the third try, I couldn't understand why they didn't do that in the first try.  We did get everything worked out, everything looks fine now.  An insurance adjuster came out and did a break down of everything that was there.  If Paul Davis had gone way over that it would have been a problem, but it was very much right in line with that adjuster's estimate.  We have very high ethics and we wanted the job to be fair to everyone and not have them take advantage of the insurance company.   They subcontracted some people and some of those people were highly unprofessional.  He even fired one of the groups because they made such a mess and they broke a ceiling fan.  Paul Davis was trying to be professional.  The man who was representing Paul Davis came over with his wife and fixed what the subcontractor messed up.  We had to be firm and point out what was wrong.  It wasn't something that was just being fixed without question.  Even though everything turned out okay it was at the price of us having to go over everything over and over again.   Another example is they took out a porcelain light fixture out of a closet that had gotten some water damage.  It was a boy I think and he replaced it with a plastic fixture.  He put in an ultra hot wattage light build, 3-4 times thicker than what you would use in your house.  We would use it and smell a fish smell.  That thing was starting to melt the plastic, it was an unsafe act.   That is a lack of professionalism, you don't work on someone's fire damage and introduce a fire hazard.

This company is apparently part of a network of contractors which my insurance company called when I had damage from a leaky roof. They have separate divisions for restoration and contracting work, but since this was a smaller job they did both. It was covered by insurance except for our deductible. Our roof leaked, damaging the popcorn ceiling of a 10x9 bedroom. The company responded very promptly and brought in a roofer. They determined that we needed to replace a boot and some rotted wood under the shingles. I had their roofer do the repairs that day (not covered by insurance, so I paid him separately and will submit another report). They cleaned out the old, soggy insulation in the attic, brought in industrial driers and a dehumidifyer for the bedroom which they left over the weekend; and had a crew come in, strip the ceiling and completely redo it (added paint to the mix). Unfortunately a stain came through the paint but they came back within 2 days and repainted that corner with the appropriate Kiltz undercoat and it looks great. They were very prompt and courteous, and they cleaned everything up. The work was well supervised.
