Description of Work: Harvey has been our "go to" Handyman for years. He has repaired a flagstone walk, painted rooms, repaired kitchen cabinets, fixed leaking sinks, and on, and, on. My wife and I feel his work is excellent. His price is fair. He is a meticulous worker, and extremely honest. The only issue, which Harvey will readily admit, is that it can take a while for him to be able to do the work because he's so backed up. That being said, he's worth the wait.

For both jobs, Harvey responded promptly to our initial phone calls. He submitted estimates in a timely manner. He is very busy, so it took him over a month to come out. He did a very thorough job and didn't charge us additional when the job took longer than he thought it would. He left the house clean each day. His work was neat and precise and looked great.
Description of Work: We had a drop ceiling redone in our basement. We had window wells covered with custom covers - this was difficult because we had all kinds of pipes going into the window wells.

Harvey was awesome. He is a handyman in every sense of the word in that his talents cross areas including carpentry, tile work, and odds/ends type things too. He came in under his estimate, and that was after doing more work than his estimate included. He was very cost and quality conscious when it came to materials. The quality of his work is excellent--he rebuilt a gate which matches our fence perfectly. In addition, he's a good guy and every likes doing business with a good, friendly guy. I will definitely call Harvey again.
Description of Work: -Built and installed gate, repaired storm door, removed kitchen tile to allow for dishwasher installation and replace tiles after, power wash fence, re-grout shower, remove tile toothbrush holder/soap dish and replace with plain tile, fix garage door opener

Harvey is fantastic. He worked quickly and efficiently and was a pleasure to have working in our home. I've already started another list of things for him to tackle for me.
Description of Work: I had a to do list about a mile long. Harvey insulated and drywalled a shed. Removed a kitchen pantry and drywalled to get ready for new cabinets. Fixed and installed closet doors. Hung some towel bars in our bathroom and a hanging chair in my daughter's room.

The job ended up being more extensive than originally planned, though not as bad as it might have been. I was kept informed all along as to what was being found and shown what was being done. In the end I think John did a great job of making the porch sound and look good. I expect to not need to worry about this particular problem ever again.
Description of Work: A portion of my porch roof was clearly rotting. The rotten part was removed, upon which more rot was found. All rotten wood was removed, porch reinforced, and recovered with a gutter added.

I called him several times as well as emailed him; he finally came out. He was courteous and prompt. The problem is that he never called me back to give me an estimate, so I did not use him.
Description of Work: I was in need of a handyman to do three or four projects and called Harvey. They involved electrical, carpentry and some others.

Response from Harvey The Handyman
just to clarity: first, member IS correct I was very late in getting estimate back to her... guilty as charged. no excuse except the amount of work in the queue. - "he finally came out" that makes it sound as if I didn't respond quickly. I received an email June 2. I came out to visit and take pix June 4. That's pretty prompt in my book. Darn close to instantaneous! finally, for anyone reading this: if you don't hear back from me in 2 and a half weeks, please attempt to contact me and say "where the heck is that estimate you promised me?" before leaving bad feedback. No contact from the homeowner after the initial visit and then 18 days later trashing me for non-response does not feel fair. Thanks for listening. peace, Harvey

I first contacted Harvey by email on February 12. I received a reply within a few days. I went on a trip and Harvey contacted me as soon as I returned. He came to my house on March 1 and looked at my projects, he took measurements and pictures. He sent me an estimate on March 3 giving an estimate range. I liked his estimate and said let's get it started! He started on March 11. He came to the house in the morning and I felt totally comfortable giving him a key since I work full-time. It was fun coming home in the afternoon and see what he had done! He had everything finished by March 19! The final cost was within his estimate. I can say how great everything he did looks! Wow! The walls look great, the molding makes such a difference in a room, and the kitchen floor is terrific! I will hire him again as soon as I get my new list of projects done!
Description of Work: Various household repairs: crown molding in master bedroom and kitchen; new ceramic tile floor in kitchen; repair corner plaster wall in master bedroom; repair mortar on two walls in basement; install new ceiling fan in 2nd bedroom; trim out kitchen opening; install new light fixture in bathroom and tighten cup and soap holders; replace rotted wood on front screen door; replaced two smoke detectors.

We had a small (18") dishwasher in our kitchen that broke. We want to redo our kitchen and put in a full-sized dishwasher in the next few years, so we didn't want to spend a lot to replace this one temporarily. I bought a used dishwasher off craigslist, and Harvey installed it. I have nothing but good things to say about him. He came out and gave me an estimate, charging hourly but capping the job at three hours. He came at the appointed time and was very detail-oriented with the installation. He even went above and beyond...one of the concerns with the old dishwasher was a broken spring on the door which caused the door to come crashing down when unlatched (a big concern for us with a toddler in the house). I hadn't realized the new (old) dishwasher had no springs as well. Harvey took extra time to use the springs from the old dishwasher to make the new one toddler-safe. He also stayed while the dishwasher ran to be sure there were no leaks or other problems. Since he had capped the job at three hours, he definitely did not need to put this kind of extra time in, it seemed that he is just that conscientious about the work. He sent a detailed invoice after the job. His rate for the job ended up being the same as other specific dishwasher installation guys I called, but having a good, reliable, trustworthy handyman to call is priceless! I've already emailed him for my next small renovation.
Description of Work: Replacement/installation of dishwasher, minor dishwasher repair.

Harvey was a pleasure to work with. He is personable, knowledgeable, detail-oriented and hard working. All handymen charge by the hour, and in my opinion this is not always the ideal way to pay for a medium to large project. But Harvey's hourly rate was quite reasonable and the quality of his work was impeccable. This guy does not even stop to eat lunch!
Description of Work: Harvey completed a number of projects at my house, including building a deck, installing deck railings ans steps, installing a new storm door, installing a support column in the front entry, replacing 2 basement windows and repairing/painting my kitchen ceiling

Harvey was right on time and very responsive to come out and quote the job. At first I wasn't sure tile was what I wanted because I could have selected a wood flooring to go on this covered 3rd story covered balcony. Harvey had several ideas we talked through and we decided upon tile (due to wear, appearance and functionality). Harvey worked quickly, was very neat (cleaned up the area while he did his work) and never took a break. He was always available by cellphone or email. I would say he is EXTREMELY trustworthy and someone with a great deal of integrity, I have no problem letting in my house. Harvey is a cool guy and very good craftsman.
Description of Work: Tiled a 3rd story balcony (approx 9' x 14'). This involved cutting out and laying down a plywood base, then putting down cement board, then applying leveling compound, then tiles, grout and sealing the grout. Looks beautiful!

Harvey arrived on the day he said he would. The replacement of the fence was, I'm sure, more than he had thought it might be. This was because, for at least 2 of the four posts, he hit rock when digging the holes. This required some modification of the posts which, in turn, required extra time on his part. The fence is where it was supposed to be, and the plants next to the old fence were unharmed. In addition to replacing the lockset, he applied a base coat of paint, which made it unnecessary for me to immediately paint the door. Harvey had given me a range of cost for the work in his estimate, and I was relieved to see the cost was not exceeded, given the difficulties in installing the fence.
Description of Work: A four posted rail fence was replaced in my back yard. The posts are of locust and the rails spruce. An old, non-functioning door lockset was replaced on an interior door. Decorative plaque hung on exterior stuccoed wall. Other minor fix-it tasks in kitchen.
