Dear Angie's List Members, I have recently had three projects completed by Schumacher Constructing and could not be more pleased with their work. In May, TJ completely "gutted" a bathroom and rebuilt it, re-routing the pluming, re-tiling the shower and the floor, removing really old tile on the walls and replacing it with wainscot and then painting the top part of the walls and the ceiling. This bathroom was at least 30 years old and now it looks like new! He completed the work on time and on budget. A couple weeks after that bathroom was done, his father applied a 2" ceiling border in my kitchen and finished it off perfectly. Then a week later, he and his father removed some old aluminum awnings from the back of my house. These last two jobs sound small, but that is the exact reason I am pointing them out. All three of these projects were things I could not do on my own, but a lot of contractors will take the big projects and shy away from the smaller things that really need to be done. I am thrilled with the "finished" look in my kitchen and all the light that now finds its way into my rooms since the awnings are gone. I veryhighly recommend Schumacher Constructing for any projects you need done around your home whether they are big or small. They arrives on time, they is totally focused on what they is doing, they cleans up when done for the day and at the end of the job. TJ gives you a fair price and comes in on budget. And, he is usually available when you call but if you have to leave a message, he calls you back promptly!!

I selected Schumacher Contracting because they a were local company. TJ, the owner, came my home and I immediately felt very comfortable with him. My job was a small 10 X 12 deck replacement. It took a while to get things going - none of it the fault of the contractor. First I needed permission from the homeowners association to have the work done, then I also needed to get a local building permit. I had a written agreement from Schumacher on the materials and price, but it turned out that the composite we had agreed on would not meet the requirements of the homeowners association. To get the right color, more expensive composite would have to be ordered. Despite the increase in price, TJ honored the original quote. Once the work started, I could count on the crew to arrive when they said they would. Since I was a small job, they were fitting me in with other work but my construction kept on schedule . The crew removed old materials and kept the area neat. My rebuilt deck is beautiful. I'm looking forward to many almost-maintenance-free years of use. TJ and his crew were a pleasure to work with. I would recommend him to other Angie members without qualification. I will definitely use them again in the future.

TJ's professionalism and quality of work made our bathroom renovation a very pleasant experience. From the initial appointment through the completion of the project, TJ provided outstanding customer service along with ideas and suggestions on helping us choose the proper products that would fit into our design and budget. He was very accommodating in working with us to schedule a start date for the project and completed the work within the time frame given. TJ was very prompt in returning phone calls or text messages and always willing to go above and beyond with any concerns. There was never a mess to come home to because TJ cleaned up each day before he left, nor was there any mess during the renovation process. TJ was very easy to work with as well as his father and they provided us with a new beautiful bathroom within our budget. I look forward to working with TJ again on future projects and would highly recommend him for any renovation project!

We feel so lucky to have found Schumacher Contracting. We first approached them in the early summer, not long after moving to a new home and discovering that it had many serious problems, inside and out. We needed a contractor who could take it all on. We interviewed several contractors and TJ Schumacher impressed us from the very beginning. As other reviewers here have noted, TJ is professional, responsible and communicative. He was honest, clear and straightforward in his assessment of the issues at our house and his cost estimates were reasonable and competitive with those of other contractors we considered. He had creative solutions for the many problems at our house and it was clear to us that he was actively thinking about how to approach those problems even when he wasn't on-site. We really felt like we had his focus and attention the entire time. He also has a great crew working with him. We felt completely at ease putting our house in their hands. Upon moving into our house we discovered that we had a serious drainage problem in the yard. The yard had been graded improperly so that water pooled four to five inches deep against two sides of the house and made its way into our basement. Water also pooled in various places throughout the yard. Due to the small size of our lot, simply regrading the yard so that it pitched away from the house was not a feasible solution. TJ proposed installing underground drains to direct the water away from the house. Because they were digging up the yard, we asked them to install a patio and 2nd floor deck at the same time (we had planned to wait a year or two to do the deck/patio, but it didn't make sense to dig up the yard twice, and the drainage problem couldn't wait). TJ provided useful advice as we chose materials for the project. Work began in the yard in late September and the entire project (drainage, patio & deck) took about three weeks. They began by digging up the backyard to address the drainage and then began work on the patio and deck. Along the way they consulted with us frequently to make sure we were happy with the progress. As the patio took shape, we asked them to make a few changes from our original design. This meant the cost was higher than we originally planned, but we were very happy with the result and TJ was great about making sure we understood and approved of the added costs before he proceeded with our changes, so there were no surprises. We could not be happier with the result. First and foremost, they solved the drainage problem. Water no longer pools against the house, which is great for our peace of mind. But in addition, the patio and deck are beautiful and so well-constructed. They compliment the house well and are aesthetically pleasing, whether we are in the house looking out at the patio or in the backyard looking back at the house. This was just the first of many projects we had Schumacher Contracting complete at our house. After the experience with the patio, deck and yard, we knew we had chosen the right people to handle the problems inside the house (reviewed separately). We will have them back in the spring and/or summer to do the final phase.

He showed up and there was not a single speck of dirt when he was done. He took it down, and put it in a bag in my basement for me and covered the existing hole.

The work TJ performed was great! From the beginning i liked TJ's professionalism, flexibility and straight-forwardness. We talked about the items I would order versus what he would order and he did all of the research ahead of time to direct me where to make my purchases, finding the exact model numbers i wanted as well as the best price. TJ was meticulously clean and neat during the project, and had a crew come clean my whole first floor on the last day. His estimate was very close to reality, only having to minimally add on work that came up for various unplanned items along the way. I thought his pricing was fair. I absolutely love my new kitchen, and i get compliments on the workmanship whenever someone sees it for the first time. I would highly recommend using TJ and in fact I will be calling him in the winter for my next remodeling project.

TJ, the principal at Schumacher, responded quickly to do the estimate and understood the goal of the job immediately. His estimate was competitive with most of the others we received. We had actually chosen a different contractor first, but that didn't work out. Since TJ had been one of the last contractors we'd had in to provide an estimate and we liked him, we were lucky he was still available to do the job. He started within a couple weeks and finished the job within the time specified. He removed all debris from the premises and every day he cleaned up any dust outside of the work area. He was polite and provided updates. The finished product is fantastic and everything works beautifully. There was one little paint mark that we could remove from the tile sealant and TJ came back and spent the time to make sure it was cleaned up and looking perfect. Altogether we had a positive experience with Schumacher.

I could not have been happier with Schumacher Contracting. We've never used a contractor for any work in our house before and were a little nervous with a project this large. TJ (owner of Schumacher Contracting) was very responsive leading up to the project and was in constant communication with us during the demo and rebuild. TJ's knowledge and professionalism put us at ease during the project and we are thrilled with the end result.

We moved here from Los Angeles ca. to Chester County area in Pa. and purchased a home with an unfinished basement, which we wanted finished. We looked on Angies's List and found Schumacher Contracting and they had good reviews. We contacted them and made arrangements to get a estimate, He was on time and gave us a price, we also had three other estimates and decided to go with them because they gave us a good price and we knew he knew what we wanted and gave us suggestions, being from the other side of the U.S. and not knowing anyone here we felt confident he wold give us what we want and needed. They started work and were always explaining what he was going to do and when we added suggestions, he listened and gave us what we wanted, also making design suggestions of his own, which worked out even better than we expected., They always called and let us know when they wold be here.they were very friendly and professional!!! We Loved what they did. the price was very reasonable, and they worked hard and had it finished sooner than we expected,. We love our new basement it came out beautiful.

This was my chance for a dream kitchen and TJ delivered! My kitchen is very small but I got every thing I wanted. The results are wonderful! We were working within a very unforgiving budget. Every-night TJ was asked are we in budget? You know the back -splash is the first thing to go... TJ was very professional. He keep me informed of each detail. He listened to my needs for certain flooring when they weren't the ones he choose. He found ways to make things work when my 100+ home wasn't square or level. When there were challenges, TJ found solutions,for example, he found a unique sink that made my kitchen's space look larger. He found a way to cut costs so that I could have the back-splash I kept saying would be the first thing that was cut. The care and attention he gives to the smallest details was wonderful. His work ethics are truly old world. His care to keep the rest of my home clean was impeccable. He (we) exhibited great patience the day the counter-tops were to be installed and were not cut correctly even though he left another job to be sure the installation went well. That was the only part of the project that he subcontracted out. As far as time line is concerned TJ took the time that was needed to do the job well. I will use again for any other major project. I will refer Schumacher Contracting to everyone I know.

Things were not good. He gave us a quote and we tried to reach him to get some additional information but he never called us back. He called three weeks later to inquire about the job. He quoted us $7,000 but it did not include everything. He did not get back to us in a timely fashion so we went elsewhere because we did not have such a problem with other any of the contractors we contacted as far as getting back to us.

We had a wonderful experience from beginning to finish. He did the demolition in the bathroom and helped us pick out materials needed for the bathroom and told us where to purchase them. He also picked up materials for us as well along the way. The work done was outstanding and we love our new bathroom! He cleaned up everything after he was done the work and also checked in with us while the work was being performed to explain everything he did each day.

The entire job was completed in 3 weeks and done extremely professionally. TJ was very skilled in the tile installation and had an excellent eye for all of the design details. He had very good working relationships with the supply stores and worked well with them. He did a very good job coordinating the granite installation with his work and he accomodated several new job scope changes as the work progressed. The flooring in both rooms looks extremely professional and is aligned and leveled perfectly. The backsplash looks fantastic and the new arch adds a whole new look to the house. I have not had any problems since the completion of the job.

i had horizontal cedar rails added to my composite deck--the composite deck supplier is out of business so we had to get creative on how to repair. TJ was understanding and willing to work with my unusual situation. I had one other contractor out that just didn't/ wouldn't consider the repair, so I was happy he was so positive and the end result was great. Also, I had him add a gate across a wide walkway co-ordinating with the railing, which included getting out a grinder and putting a post into my bluestone walkway--again, the result exceeded my expectations and he was very easy to work with. I plan to have him do additional work on the house.

Everything went according to plan, they were schedule to be at my house for five days and they didn't go over budget.

Overall the work from start to finish was excellent!! High quality of work, at a great price and done in a timely efficient manner.

Having work done in your house is never an easy ordeal, but TJ and his dad were thorough, unobtrusive, and very efficient with everything they did. TJ worked within our budgetary constraints and did a remarkable job with what we had envisioned. There were no unnecessary delays. The initial phase was done within the time frame he had given, as was the second phase. We are very happy with the results and would highly recommend Schumacher Contracting to anyone. We plan to have more remodeling done by TJ in the future. He's honest, fair, and willing to work with your budget. He is very detail-oriented and does a thorough and professional job.

Everything about our experience was wonderful! We were on a tight budget for a large drywall project and master bathroom renovation. TJ was very professional and trust worthy. I felt that his pricing was very fair and the work he did was incredible. The whole project took about 10 working days. The prep work to keep the house clean (plastic covering on furniture and walls, floor covering) was impeccable. After all the dry wall work was complete they did a great job with the cleanup. The workmanship on both projects is very impressive. TJ really knows what he is doing and can provide suggestions and direction for any project. Although we paid for the finishes (tile, shower door, railing, newel post) we do not have a car big enough to transport the materials. We gave TJ pictures of what we wanted and he picked up everything for us. I felt that he went out of his way to make this major project easy on us. I will be using Schumacher Contracting for any major house projects going forward.

My wife and I over the past 5 years have done a full remodel of our kitchen, finished our unfinished basement, and remodeled our upstairs bathroom. TJ was the most professional and detailed person we have worked with out of all the contractors that have worked on our house. Not only does he do the excellent work himself, he communicates everything he is doing in a timely manner. He is on time and finishes the project like he is working on his own home. He went over the deadline by a few days only because he goes over everything three times to make sure it was done the right way. I will us TJ for all my future projects.

TJ started on the date expected and finished a few days late because of days lost during Hurricane Sandy. He and his father were the only two that performed the work. They worked as quietly as possible and were always pleasant and professional. In the end, we have a spectacular bathroom, one we never thought possible. His work was impeccable from the plumbing to installing the towel bar. He is very knowledgable in all aspects of remodeling and provided his opinion regarding decorating in a professional manner. After the work was completed, TJ's father came the next day to clean up and add any final touches needed.

TJ was really great from the beginning and very accommodating of our schedule. The work he did was professional and his rate was very reasonable. He also came back after we had a problem with a couple of the doors to adjust/fix them. I plan to use him again for a few other household projects we have.

I was referred to TJ by my mother, who had used his services for her own home remodeling plans. I just purchased a new home in July which required some significant remodeling and repair. TJ began work on my house in early August 2011, about three weeks before I was to move in. During that time, I gave him access to my house and he took responsible care of the house in my absent, locking up and turning off all the electricity etc. Since I wasn't in a rush to have the work completed, TJ and his contracting partner (his father, in fact) were able to take their time and were very communicative about any snags in the contracting process. For the most part, TJ provided the majority of parts, based on my selections and tastes. I worked with him to select Lowe's products, since he could get a discount and would pass those savings to me. He also understood what my design aims were and he purchased additional items accordingly. I was very pleased with not having to bother too much about the acquisition of the materials for him. The hardwood floors TJ selected (based on a match against previously existing flooring) look beautiful. The vanities and mirrors and lighting I selected were installed well and functional wonderfully. The paint job in the bathroom and gust room look smooth and clean. TJ was able to provide me with a good referral for a window company to replace all of my windows (six in total), but the process of window installation was complicated by the fact that the three first-floor windows are all protected by decorative wrought-iron grates. TJ was able to come on the day of the window repair and cut and re-weld the window grates. On that day, he finished the under-cabinet lighting. The majority of the work was completed over the course of three weeks, with one week off in between two weeks of work. I am very happy with the results.

From the time I met TJ Schumacher he was extremely professional. He arrived with references and his contractor's license. He showed me pictures of his work and then listened to what I wanted done to my deck. He gave me a price and that was the price from start to finish. I was extremely pleased by his work and attention to detail. He is punctual and courteous. His prices are fair. TJ's work is meticulous and neat, needless to say I am pleased! My deck is gorgeous and I am extremely happy with the job. The work took about three weeks. Give or take a few days as we were hit with a lot of rain and a few items had to be ordered. But all in all it was finished in a decent amount of time and I have the whole summer to enjoy it. I also hired him to makeover my porch! He is just completing that job and will be starting my powder room. It is really hard to find a good contractor who produces what they promise, TJ is that contractor. I will be hiring him to help my son with his new house! His number will be on speed dial!!!!!
