The work was sloppy, rushed and incomplete. They never cleaned up after themselves. When they opened a package, the papers were left, when they drilled a hole, the shavings were left. (I'm talking about the areas that we were living in not just the new section they were working on). They had to drill a hole in our children's bedroom to get into the pipes of the powder room and left the dust and hole. They had no intention of fixing it. We had to tell them more than once. Anytime we suggested something they would say it couldn't be done or that it would be too expensive. When we would point out many flaws they would always say "that is how it is supposed to be" or "we gave you a great deal". Examples: 1. All seams of drywall show. 2. Any molding and woodwork around doors, windows and floor are left uneven, cut incorrectly and have large gaps to be filled with putty leaving the new molding looking old. 3. Doors to closets and entryways were cut too short, too long, left jagged on bottom and some were bowed. 4. When asked to correct something, they were obviously annoyed and would cause more harm then good. Like a bull in a china shop. (so we opted to live with their horrible work and tried to fix it all ourselves as best as we could). We had to completely remove the whole sides and sill of a window and replace it with new wood because the window they made was too messed up to try and fill the major gaps. 5.All walls and ceilings are crooked. When asked why, they said "you can't help it, that's how the walls are." How so when we gutted it and they put all new walls, ceilings and such. One wall in the new bathroom is obviously bowed. Didn't they ever use a level? Walls around doorway to closets are so uneven the doors hang on an obvious slant. We had to buy 6 inch molding to put on top of closets to cover the hardware of the sliding closet doors. (Keep in mind, I know what quality work looks like since my previous home was done with exceptional work and care, however that builder is in another state.) 6. All vanities and fixtures we had supplied so they knew the measurements of them before putting in the boxes for light fixtures. They were not centered to the vanity so I had to exchange my light for another to pass it off as if I wanted it off center. They also scratched the front and side of my vanity and placed it in front of the air vent over metal so we had to try to hide the scratches with stain and cut the metal from the vent so that we could apply a cover. 7. The doorways to our bedroom and laundry room that they had put in, I like to refer to them as Willy Wonka doors are ridiculous! I understand that our ceilings are low, so one would assume that a prehung door would not work well...especially when they cut most of the bottom off and left us with crazy looking doors and handles that you must bend down to grasp. When I asked why they didn't get a regular door and cut it down evenly on top and bottom and hang it, they said it couldn't be done and reminded me of what a "great deal" they had given us. 8. They had also given us a wall to separate the laundry room which looks completely unfinished at the top. It is open on top to allow us to put a drop ceiling, however, they left it uneven so when we do add a drop ceiling, it will not lay flat. There is so much more to be said for inside but now I will tell you about the garage. Did I mention that we had to hire another electrician to fix his wiring? He had wires from the bedroom connected to the GFI in the bathroom as well as many other misdirected connections. [I also forgot to mention that before they started putting the wood up for the walls in the empty, gutted garage they had brought the pile of wood and placed it outside in front of the garage. This was the day before the big hurricane hit in the summer and the warnings were stated everywhere about the amount of rain and wind we would have for days. So we carried it inside so it would not be sitting in water and they were annoyed with us and mentioned it to us. Why would they want wood to be saturated and have no time to dry before installation?] The garage initially looks beautiful from the outside. They tried to talk us out of the color and type of siding we wanted and even the amount of a shingle look we added. What do they care what we want? Let's see if the siding buckles in the summer. Also, we were told they would bring us a brochure on garage doors since we wanted a specific type. It never happened. A few days later there was the most basic white door installed (we gave up and allowed it). We specifically stated that we did not want a 9 panel glass door. A 9 panel glass door was installed. We then insisted it be changed to a door with a half moon window top. A door without a half moon was installed. (we gave up and allowed it). Then you notice the crooked water drains, the entry doorway that is so crooked that you see the outside when it is closed and the various shims that actually stick out a few inches to try to level or hold up doorways and windows. We wanted a drain put into the cement floor in the middle of the garage before the cement was poured to allow water to drain out when cleaning cars and equipment. We were first told it couldn't be done, then we were told it would be too expensive, then it was agreed upon to do it. Only to wake up the day the cement was poured and it not be done. The cement guy said that he had called the builder from the supply house to get the drain and the builder told him we were not doing it (again we gave up and allowed it). Also, keep in mind that we had replaced our hot water heater, air conditioner and heater with another guy who was fabulous and he too was aggravated with the builders because they did not cover the new systems and placed objects on them while they were sanding and such. Disrespecting his work and could have damaged his work. Also, all of the work we wanted we specifically sat down with the father (Bob) and told him. There were no surprises or ridiculous requests. All were agreed upon and assumed that he would be doing most of the work. Not his son and a daily worker. Instead every minor important request that we wanted was not done...smaller lights by wall in bedroom, insulation in ceiling, garage door, drain, etc. Then they had the nerve to say to each other that we do not communicate with one another and that my fiance works 2 jobs and doesn't know what is coming or going. This I specifically heard with my own two ears! I am assuming since we let them walk all over us and we did not demand them to fix their mistakes or replace or add what we truly wanted we were misjudged! I guess not wanting to fight or be demanding could look like that. If us being nice and passive is a flaw then so be it. The lack of communication was with Bob and his son Jamie. Jamie was never there when we sat down with his father so he does not know what we asked for or were told. They did as they wanted. They were annoyed that it took longer than expected and rushed through everything. Anyone that sees our home notices and can not believe it! Unwillingly, my fiance asked them to come back to fix the Willy Wonka doors. They said yes but wanted to be paid their remaining bill. They over charged us $6000. for a check we had already paid that they said they forgot to account for. When we brought this to their attention, we never heard from them since! And we hope we never do! We only wish that we had retained extra money from our final payment to cover the costs we are still putting out to fix their mistakes.
Description of Work: Their goal was to build a two story detached garage and turn a family room and existing garage into a bedroom with a full bath. We wanted the garage built first to have a place to put items within the home so that they could work on the inside. Since the permits were not ready the builder suggested they start inside (knowing there are 7 people living in a small split level home). We agreed and tried to keep things out of their way. It was not easy and they kept throwing it up in our faces. They knew the work environment from the beginning and wanted to start inside since they were "slow". They also added new moldings in two other bedrooms as well as new closet and bedroom doors, and added new drywall and fixtures to a small powder room that we gutted. As well as a wall separating our laundry area. The builder also did the wiring of the electric work within the new bedroom and bath himself. Except for two extra lights that we bought and put in and he charged us $100. each. He refused to put them in as well as smaller sized lights by a specific wall and extra insulation in ceiling (that we specifically asked for and were told we would get for sound control). Instead we had to buy and insulate the ceiling ourselves before they put in the ceiling. They refused to do it. The tile work was fabulous; however, that was from a friend of ours.

They did an addition for the house, a couple of years ago. They did a really good job and their prices are good. I’ve recommended them to others.
Description of Work: I’ve used Halliday Construction as my contractor. They did some siding for me recently.

We contacted this contractor because he was a friend of a workmate. We were not satisfied at all with the attention to detail and the professionalism of Bob and his team. We had initially contacted Bob to do a bathroom remodel and garage addition. The bathroom was done so poorly we will probably have to have it redone sometime in the near future. There isn't a square corner anywhere in the bathroom. The new floor was not correctly built up and it now sags in the middle. There were just so many things wrong that I don't know where to begin. Lastly when we pointed out all the problems to Bob and informed him of our decision of not using him for our addition he left without making repairs to the shoddy workmanship. Suffice it to say that we will never use this contractor again.
