Who can tell how it went? We still don't have the awning! We purchased our first awning from Mamaux about 8 years ago, and this one is a replacement for it. We should have our heads examined for buying a second awning from them, because it is beyond nightmarish to get anyone from this company to respond to any form of communication. Early in April someone in the office did actually answer the phone - probably in error - and told me that our new awning was scheduled to be installed the week of April 18. It is now May 4 and of course we have no awning. I have called twice each day this week. On Monday, I could leave voice mails. Yesterday and today, I get a message saying "Please enter your remote access code". What????? So now I can't leave a voice mail. Emailing is a complete waste of time. Each year, we receive via snail mail a piece of paper asking us to "schedule our spring installation", which they invite you to do via email, and they assure you that they will confirm your email request. Yes, when chickens fly. When - if ever - we receive our new awning, we are DONE, DONE, DONE with this dreadfully run "business" . Please note that my negative comments relate solely to the business owner - if there is one - and the office staff, who may or may not actually exist. The installation guys - when they do show up - are very nice and helpful and do their work very professionally. Here's a clue: when the owners of a business have much to learn from their installation crew, something is very wrong. RUN, do not walk, away from A. Mamaux & Sons.

They have the worst customer service. Never call you back. I have called extension, left messages and sent an email. They were to put up my awnings on Wednesday . They called on Tuesday and I had the hardware out. This is every year put up and take down. I have requested in the past the date to put up is April 15 and take down October 1, and every year I start calling and no one answers. I'm going with a new awning company. Don't use them . Service stinks

They created a 12x20 custom canvas awning for my deck about 4 years ago. The product quality and customer service was good. my awning has held up well for the past 4 years. I also have also had them take it down in the fall to store over the winter and put back up each spring. The customer service has gone from good to 100% non-existent over the past 2 years. They used to clean the awnings before storing - that's what they told me when I bought it. They stopped doing that. They used to be very responsive and accommodating when you would call requesting put up/take down date or if you inquired about when they would be coming to your house. About two years ago, they stopped answering their phones or returning phone calls - COMPLETELY. I even tried calling their sales line - nothing. I noticed a few other reviews saying the exact same thing. Last year they raised their put-up/take-down prices "due to increased costs'. It used to be $180 to put up/take down, now it's over $200/each trip. I don't know what's happened in the past two years for this kind of drop off - maybe a change in management/ownership or that they've fallen on hard times and had to get rid of workers - who knows. The price increase was the last straw. I'm now using another awning company for my winter storage. Price is about the same but at least they answer their phones!

My first awnings weren't exactly what I expected. They remade the awnings, without charging me for the changes. The workmanship is perfect. The installers erect and dismantle the awnings so quietly that I'm usually not even aware they're here. That's pretty much what happened this spring. I looked out the window and - surprise! - the awnings were up for the season.
Description of Work: Mamaux made and installed awnings for me in 2000. Every year, they have erected and taken down my awnings at the beginning and end of the outdoor season. I finally bought replacements last year. I didn't even shop around this time because I like the company so much. This spring they put up the awnings that they stored over the winter.

The awning quality is much lower that we anticipated, seams are weak and some are already coming apart. They set up our awning in the spring and take it down in the fall and store. They do not offer awning cleaning services. Each year the installers put it up incorrectly., which causes the awning to sag and collect debris and look soiled. It takes repeated calls each season to get the to put it up right. As mentioned in the prior review, it is difficult to get them to respond, you cannot tell when they will come to your home and they use a post card system to communicate with their customers. We are looking for a new company to take over our awning. We would not recommend Maumax.

We had Mamaux make an awning for us several years ago. Each winter they are to take it down and store it and then they are to put it up in the spring. Each and every year, it is an absolute nightmare trying to get them to come and out up the awning. We are now in the middle of May and no awning. I have made 4 phone calls in 3 days and have not received a call back. There is no way to communicate, or schedule, via email. Each year they mail to their customers a POSTCARD (yes, in this era, they are using postcards), which I dutifully and immediately return, to indicate that we do in fact want our awning put up. I have learned the hard way to keep a copy of this, with a notation as to the date I returned it. Last week, in one of my normal rites of spring, I started calling. No human ever, ever, ever answers the phone. Instead you get a voice mail with the following options: the Sales Department (no one ever answers, or returns calls there, either); or to schedule your Fall, 2012 removal. Yes, you read that correctly - it is now May of 2014; and the only voice mail menu option is to schedule your Fall of 2012 removal. And why should I have to call - I already mailed back their silly postcard! When they do get around to installing it (and they won't let you know that they are planning to show up), the men who install it are pleasant and competent. This is why I am giving this company a D rather than an F - the installers do a good job. I feel sorry for them as I am sure they bear the brunt of customers' frustrations. It costs several hundred dollars each year for this "service", and we pay the bill promptly each year. I have no idea whether we will have an awning this year or not. We may just bite the bullet and order another one from a company that actually returns phone calls.

Overall I am happy with the product, installation, and yearly service. The only thing negative was having to wait so long for someone to come out to do the estimate. Maybe it was due to the winter months.
Description of Work: Our community home owners association uses A MAMAUX & SON as the perferred vendor for deck awnings. I call them several times over the course of Dec 2011 - Feb 2012 (was only able to get voice mail). Finally received a call in first week in March to come out to do the estimate. They showed up on time and did a thorough job explaining the design and answering all my questions. About 8-10 weeks later which is standard to build a customized canopy it was installed and we love it! Every year they service our plan putting installing the awnings end of april and take them down to clean and store for the winter. Its a great company with great product.

Our awning is being held hostage.... We recently purchased a home which had the frame for a large awning. At the closing the seller indicated that the awning was in storage at A Mamaux and Son and to call them to have it installed. I called and left a message explaining the situation. It took them a week or so to respond. When they did they indicated that the awning was actually fairly old and they weren't sure of the condition. The woman said she would have it taken out of storage and assessed to see if it would stand up to another installation and then call me back. That was over a month ago and I have yet to hear back. I have called many times and each time I get an answering machine. It has been an extremely frustrating experience as there is nothing to do but call back again and again! If the awning is too old to be put up I would understand however I would appreciate the courtesy of a notification. If ever we have another awning made I would absolutely not work with this company as they clearly don't care about customer service.

We had used A. Mamaux for the past 10 years and in the beginning service was good; however, in the past 4 years service has steadily declined with this year being the worst experience yet. They have always removed our awnings each fall, stored them over the winter and sent a reminder in the springtime for re-installation. We have always sent the card in around late March or early April. Yet, for the past several years we have had to recall the office to determine the status of our installation. Only after a reminder call have they scheduled the team to come out with the awnings. It was during the 2010 spring installation that we knew the service had taken an all time low. We were not home during the installation (but left the door to the screened in porch open for them to perform their service.) We noticed several issues with this year’s installation of the 3 awnings. Of the awnings – 2 of the 3 were not installed properly – with one awning not being fully placed on the rod with the rod hanging out. Another rod appeared to have been forced onto the house and was newly bent. Not to mention that the 2 man (inexperienced or just not careful) team decided to place their ladder in the middle of two barberry bushes – breaking main branches. That was just what we found outside. As for inside the porch area – they tied together old and new string and didn’t even loop the string through the proper brackets. After notifying A. Mamaux of the installation issue, the team returned to replace the string on the awnings; however, the bent rod remains an issue. As for this fall when the awnings need to be taken down – we will be finding another awning company to begin using.

Great...I've learned my lesson. I received a better price and better service. I'm staying with Maumaux.
Description of Work: We used the company for six years to install and take down an older awning we had inherited from the previous house owners. The awning was approximately 20 years old and had some wear and tear. I had elicted bids from other awning vendors to make a new awning. Although Maumaux's price was comparable to the one I chose for a new awning, Maumaux was unable to meet my installation time frame. Needless to say, although the new awning from another company looks great, their customer service is unremarkable. Maumaux's staff has consistently, professionally, and cheerfully shown up on time to install our awning and their office staff has always been attentive to our time frames. Their installation, storage, and take-down service costs were half the price of the prior company and other bids in the area.

They store our awnings over the winter and in the springtime they send us a card to notify us about when we would like to have them installed. It was obvious that the men who came were inexperienced, and they took twice as long as usual to get the job done. They didn't install one of the awnings properly at all. They mentioned before they left that something was wrong with the fabric. The frame had come loose because they had used tiny little screws. They sent somebody out to fix it. An experienced person came out after I called them a couple of times and took the damaged screen door down, and he came back and reinstalled it. It took a long time for them to respond, and it was probably because they were over-whelmed with work after the bad windstorm.

I called the company and told them I was a former customer who needed a new awning that they had previously installed over 10 years ago. The receptionist told me someone would call me back. I waited 3 days but no one called back. I called again and she said Joe Lenhart would contact me. He did the next day and set up an appointment that he kept. After giving him the downpayment, he told me the awning would be installed the following week. However, it was not installed the following and called John and left a message inquiring when would it be installed. After waiting 2 days, it was finally installed.

HAD AN APPOINTMENT SET UP ON A DAY THAT TURNED OUT TO BE *VERY* COLD. MAMAUX DID NOT CALL TO CHANGE OR CANCEL, BUT WHEN I CALLED THAT AFTERNOON TO INQUIRE, I WAS TOLD THEY WERE SIMPLY GOING TO COME THE FOLLOWING MORNING. THE NEXT DAY THEY CAME AS PLANNED (WHEN I WAS AWAY FROM THE HOUSE) AND THE WORK SEEMED FINE. PRICE WAS SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER THAN THE ONE OTHER QUOTE I RECEIVED.
