I explained to the technician how the tenant just had the oil tank refilled the day before it stopped working. There was water coming out of the pressure relief valve. He glanced at the system and determined the expansion tank and another valve needed to be replaced. I questioned given the age of the system (about 30 years old) if the repairs would last through the winter and maybe get another year out of it, and he seemed confident it would. I explained I was going to replace the system, but would prefer to make repairs if it could last through the winter (another two months). Given the advice, I decided to proceed with the repairs. The work was performed to replace the parts and I then received a call informing me that after this work was done they went to start up the system and a black puff of smoke came out. The technician concluded that since the oil was just replaced it may have stirred up sediment in the tank which caused the issue. So now I'm not sure if they other repairs were even necessary and was told they would need to perform a full tune-up in order to remedy the situation. I'm now approaching a grand in repairs which would have taken a nice dent out of a new system had a decided to go that route. Nonetheless, he gets it up and running, and I am happy my tenant has heat and I can get the system replaced over the summer. A little over a month later I receive a call from my tenant informing me the heater is not working. I just had it fixed and tuned now there's issues again. I call up Sila and they inform me they can get someone out in the morning, but any repairs needed that aren't a result of errors from the previous service would be my responsibility and that it's like taking your car the the mechanic. This is my first experience with Sila. My auto mechanic who I have used for the last twenty years lets me know when a repair makes sense or when it's time send it out to pasture. What my mechanic doesn't do is tell me to do the repairs then try to sell me a new car a month after I have it in the shop. We'll see how it goes tomorrow and I will be sure to provide an update. 4/5/2013 Update Sila came back out and evidently felt it is perfectly normal for a furnace to stop working not more than a month after repairs and a full tune-up. Wouldn't even look at the system to speculate what was wrong without having to run a diagnostic which they informed me I would need to be charged. They were kind enough to let me work a deal out with the sales rep to maybe recoup some of the repair cost if I were to replace the system. The initial estimates I received from Sila were also $2-3k more then other estimates I received. Thanks but not thanks. If you're thinking about using Sila, look elsewhere.
Description of Work: I have a rental property that has an old oil furnace. Originally it was supposed to have two parts replaced, the expansion tank and a relief valve which was supposed to cost about $300. After that work was done, the heater still did not work and I was told they would need to perform a full system maintenance which would be another $450. Total work came out to about $750.

It was fantastic. I called them on Friday, after a week without heat, and they had our new furnace installed by Wednesday of the next week. Just 4 business days. The sales guy, Ralph, was extremely helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. He understood our situation and gave me a few options that would work best for us and our budget. I wasn't home for the installation, but my wife was there and she said everything went very smoothly. It took about 6 hours to get everything up and running and clearing out our old oil furnace. I highly recommend Sila!
Description of Work: I needed my oil furnace removed and a new high efficiency natural gas furnace installed.

It went great and I was happy with the results. While the U/V lights were very expensive, they were definitely worth it. With two small children, any mold in the house is a bad thing. Having it in the furnace was especially worrisome. I can say that I could notice the air quality after their installation. The air smelled "purer", that's the best way I could describe it.
Description of Work: I had contacted Sila through one of the "maintenance/tune-up" big deals through Angie's list for our furnace and A/C units. Sila inspected the and performed the routine maintenance. The gentleman who did the work also found mold inside of our furnace. He cleaned it out and installed U/V lights within the furnace in and out ducts. This is where the extra cost came in. We also signed up for a maintenance program with them.

We recently moved into the house. It was nice to get the A/C looked at prior to a long summer. The person was very nice. He inspected inside and outside. He then ran off a list of concerns. At the end, he offered offered maiantenance packages, but the system was realtively new. I was happy to know everything looked good and to get a full understanding of the concerns.

Good, comprehensive check of both of our air conditioning units. He did recommend a couple of fixes, at really high prices, but didn't pressure me into doing them. I did a little research and decided not to have the changes made at the time. The check up seemed well done and the service man was very professional

Sila visited my home five times before they were able to complete the job and today, I am meeting with a carpet repair company to address the water leaking that occurred from my furnace into the basement. I live in a large home and one of my furnaces was noisy when the motor was running. When I saw a Sila promotion to check furnaces, I bought three coupons and asked that they take a closer look at the one furnace thast was noisy. Two men arrived two hours late on this first visit, said there was nothing wrong with this furnace, but recommended I spend $200+ on a capacitor that was going bad and/or buy repair warranties on all of them. Later, when the noise from the motor got worse, I called and asked for a visit to address the problem. It took four more visits, replacement of a faulty condensation motor (twice-the replacement motor had a faulty seal), and replacement of a drainage hose, before the noise and now water leaks were addressed. On the plus-side, the office staff was courteous and responsive. Yet, the process - and now carpet repairs - were not a good experience.
Description of Work: Cleaning and checking three furnaces with one furnace very noisy (condensation motor going bad). After motor replaced, leaking water in basement. Replacement motor had faulty seal and drainage hose needed to be replaced.

The foreman, Mike Hudson, and two HVAC technicians arrived on Monday January 15, 2013 promptly, removed the old heater, air exchanger, air conditioning unit. They were the same crew who completed all the work. They were careful when moving equipment from the front door to the basement to protect the floors and walls. They were polite, professional and worked hard and carefully. We trusted them and they were pleasant to have in our house. They cleaned up daily, made minimal demands of us and became friendly with our cats (not an easy task with one of the cats). The work was top-notch and we have been satisfied with the quality of the equipment, the workmanship and the diligence of the work crew and salesman, Matt Migliore. In particular the foreman, Mike Hudson, worked well beyond his scheduled quitting time on the last scheduled work day (Wednesday, January 16, 2013) to try to correct a problem with the electronic thermostat and had to return the next day (Thursday, January 17, 2013) to replace the faulty unit. He answered our questions and explained the system. We will continue to use Sila for our HVAC needs in the future and heartily recommend them to friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: We have had a service contract for our 14 year old heater and central air conditioner with Sila since we moved into the house in 2010. In fact we had scheduled an appointment with their salesman in early January 2013 to discuss replacing the HVAC system later in the year. When the heater suddenly stopped functioning on January 10, 2013, a Sila HVAC technician came within hours to diagnose the problem. He determined the air handler was cracked and unfixable; the electronic pilot light was repairable. A salesman presented options for replacement of the heater, air handler and the outside air conditioning unit. We have had an excellent relationship with Sila (and its predecessor, Unique Indoor Comfort) and selected the manufacturer and package that met our needs and price point. We also contracted with Sila to move at the same time the heat/cooling ducts for the main body of the house from the center of the basement to a far wall in preparation for our having the basement finished. In planning the work, the foreman also found that the metal dryer vent was spewing lint onto the ceiling insulation and was blocked by a large plug of lint which was a serious fire hazard. It alsohad been improperly sealed with duct tape at the time of installation when the house was built in 1998. We had Sila replace the dryer vent and install it properly.

We got other estimates for the same work which was much less (more in the $600-700) range.
Description of Work: Called to have someone look at our boiler which was making rattling noises. Someone came, and diagnosed a problem with the circulator pump. They quoted me a price to replace it which was $1285. The high price was because the system has to be drained as we lack a shut off valve. They also quoted me very high prices for AC service contracts.

I think they were big on talk and not so much on delivery. The air conditioner was supposed to very good before service calls and it was not that good. The people who came out were very nice. They were very young guys. I think their pricing was high and I think they were more expensive than the competition. But I went with them because their numbers were very good.

everything went well. just didn't get a great feeling from the company
Description of Work: i purchased a deal of the day for a heater tuneup. the two men who came out were professional but the one who seemed to be in charge was a little (not nasty but not overly friendly). when they tried to sell me a service contract, i told them i had one with the gas company. from then on he seemed disinterested. i would have been willing to purchase heating and air conditioning contracts for tuneup and cleaning since this is not included in my service contract but, as i stated, he became disinterested.
