Sila Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical

I had yet to make an appointment with Sila for the big deal I had bought when they called me and asked if I would be available that afternoon as they would have a technician in the neighborhood. I was home and would be home that afternoon but what impressed me was that they had obviously cross referenced their records in an attempt to save money. The technician arrived when expected and after I showed him where the three components were located he went to work. I'm not exactly sure of how long he was busy at work but it seems to be about an hour or longer. That man worked diligently inside and out and left a report of his inspection in a clear cover in the vicinity of the heater so that it could be reviewed in the future. This is the second time I have had Sila at my house to do inspections and I have been very pleased with their professionalism both times.

During our home inspection we learned we needed to replace the furnace within the first year. After moving in, we noticed that the temperature difference between floors was significant - the top floor was too hot, and the first floor was too cold or too hot. We brought in Sila to buy ductless units for our third floor and upgrade our furnace, and they determined that we needed some ductwork done rather than a ductless unit, saving us quite a bit of money. The owner of the company came to assess our house and supervised the project as well, given that our Center City Philadelphia house was a little more challenging in terms of ductwork. His team was courteous and professional, cleaned up after themselves, and taught us how to regulate the temperature in our house. We will absolutely use them again.

Sila Heating & Air Conditioning are good and punctual. They were even early to the appointment. They didn't dilly-dally, but they did a thorough job. They're polite. They put some protective booties on when they're walking on carpet. I've got a service package with them. I forgot to give them a call to get regular maintenance done and they actually called me to remind me. Their prices are reasonable.

I have used Sila for service of my HVAC for many years and have been very happy for the most part. They have always been professional and effective even though they are heavy handed on trying to sell you extra things. I called them to estimate a complete a/c and blower replacement. The blower is in the attic which is usually a little more difficult of an installation from what I understand. The estimator was professional and on time. I got 7 bids and SILA is the only estimator who actually did a complete heat load calculation to determine the appropriate size of the unit. Mine turned out to be oversized. That is where the good news ends. The prices I was quoted were absolutely outrageous. I expect that a/c replacements will be expensive but I believe my estimate was a real price gouger. Their pricing is off the charts. Example: for a 2.5 ton 13 SEER unit with a basic multispeed air handler they quoted over $9,000!!! Their price was almost $4,000 higher than the next highest bid I received. For the top of the line 16 SEER they were at $12,000!!! I am extremely disturbed by their pricing and will now look elsewhere to service my equipment.

I bought a service contract for both A/C and heater covering parts and labor if a repair is needed after a thorough inspection and testing.

I had a couple of minor problems. I felt it was poor decision making on the part of the installers about how to run wires. I do a lot of construction work myself and a lot of home improvement projects. Thinking things through before you execute the work is a critical part of the job. I think they lacked foresight in some of the decisions they made. When I pointed this out to the management team, they had six guys over here examining the work. They would have torn the whole system out and started again, if I had asked them to. They were very responsive. I am pretty pernickety. They have done everything I asked them to do.

Great experience w Sila - purchased Angie's List Big Deal for 65 A/C Checkup; Also had filter replaced; Very accommodating with my requested scheduled date and time; Furthermore I had a tremendous experience with their technician Shawn W - polite, respectful, thorough, and patient -- if we could clone him and get people like him in this world, we would have an even greater world to live in - Thank you Sila for having the quality of a person like Shawn to work with - great experience!!

Sila is great. I've used them for all HVAC stuff in my house and they're always responsive and professional. They're not cheap, but they aren't outrageously expensive, either. It's worth the price.

The staff at Sila was responsive and courteous. They scheduled a two hour window and were actually able to show up a little early. They called first to confirm that it would be OK to get there early and they would start outside and not need to come inside until the scheduled time. The technician was professional and courteous. When he arrived, he described what he would do, how long it would take and where he needed to go in the house. He wore booties when in the house and kept his work area clean. When finished, he described in detail what he did and noted recommendations and options for future maintenance.

Was very happy with service performed. He was punctual and professional.

The tune up was good. I have had no problems. He was on time.

I had AC issues last year with leakage of Refrigerant on both units in my 13 yr old house in NJ. Several times local HVAC men came out and only refilled the units and said i would have to have them leak checked. I went to find these gentlemen and of course too busy, not available, I went to Angies List and found Sila and 300+ excellent reviews. I called them and arrange to have someone come to my home and look at both my AC units. The units indeed were leaking the bottom worst than the top. The gentleman from Sila, Tom was excellent, he told exactly what was wrong and showed me. Before he did the gas leakage test he told me cost and asked me if i wanted to go ahead and I said 'yes'. After finding out that the bottom unit had no Refrigerant in it , I asked Tom my options and Sila sent someone out, Mike and we reviewed my installed systems and we came up with a solution for the bottom unit. I had Mke go ahead and have the Sila installers come out. I had to have new coils, line and condenser ( this the outside unit ). The men arrived and performed the repair work. All the Sila men were careful not track in my house and were very professional. I was seriously impressed. I would recommend Sila to anyone ....they are GREAT ....

Excellent overall experience. 2nd time using this contractor via Angie's List. Receptionist was very polite when making the appointment. Shawn the technician was very professional, on-time and took the time to walk me thru what he was doing and his recomendations. Very respectful of my house (put on booties when he arrived) as well as did a thourough inspection of both the indoor and outdoor units.

We got pricing from 3 people and they were the most reasonable. They did a great professional job and the clean up was great as well.

I was replacing the 18 year old original construction HVAC system with a high efficiency system. Spoke with representative at the Suburban Home show in Oaks, PA. Representative arrived on time for appointment, performed sizing requirements, reviewed and explained what would be performed and provided an estimate. Estimate was fair (Lennox equipment) but above that of another contractor whose brand (Carrier) was also providing interest free financing at the time. Interest free financing was a major factor in selection as confident all bidding contractors (all Angie's List A rated) would have performed quality work and brand comparisons (Trane, Lennox & Carrier) were all highly rated by consumer reports.

My original intent was to merely have my air conditioning unit given annual service by Sila. However, when their technician began working on my unit there were so may things wrong with it plus it was nearly 40 years old he recommended complete replacement. A salesman was on my doorstep in less than an hour who very carefully explained all of the options and the costs involved. I signed paperwork right then and the installers were at my home the next morning and completed their work by early afternoon. They were also very professional and left everything s clean as they found it. Overall a great experience!

The service man arrived on time and was polite and informative. He suggested that I purchase disposable filters to make changing them more palatable and arranged for my puchase of a carton of those filters. He also noted that given the fact that my air conditioning unit is now 10 years old, it is quite possible some of the parts, particularly the capacitor and the compressor contractor, could need to be replaced in the up-coming future. He quoted me prices for replacing the individual units and also for both a one-year ($684) or a five-year ($1,084) contract either of which would include an annual service call and the no-charge replacement of the capacitor ($325) and of some other parts (but not the compressor) when it does fail. I like the idea of the annual contract but plan to check with a couple of other AC contractors before making a decision. Overall I am very pleased with this Big Deal.

The initial contact with the office to setup the appointment was handled efficiently and courteously. Once I explained the reason for the call I was advised upfront that a service call would involve a $85 charge even if nothing else was done. I was also given a price of $149 for the AC inspection. That was acceptable so I schedule the appointment. The technician arrived within the first hour of the two-hour window provided and was professional and courteous throughout the call. It was raining steadily this day and I noted that he had rubber or plastic booties he would slip on/off each time he entered/left the house to avoid tracking in water, dirt, etc. We do not keep our house especially clean but we do appreciate this type of consideration. Following some quick Q&A with me as to the problem and associated "symptoms", he diagnosed the faulty high limit control (Texas Instrument P/N 025-29041-004) which he stated upfront would coast $284 to replace. That seemed a little high to me but I agreed for him to replace it during this visit at that stated price - more on this later. It was this point he first mentioned the option to sign up for their yearly maintenance plan which would cost $245/year. Had I chosen this option I believe it covers both the heating and AC portions of the system but I am not positive of that. It may have been only for one portion of the system or the other. In return for this coverage they would inspect the system yearly and I would not be charged for any needed repairs. The suggestion to purchase the maintenance plan was brought up several more times during the visit, though not in a pushy or annoying manner. I generally decline maintenance agreements, especially at that price and did so in this case as well. At the end of this two-hour visit the total bill came to $522.57: $85 for the service call, $284 for the heater repair; and $149 for the AC check. I wish I'd previously made the switch to a smart phone technology like my wife has. With it I could have readily checked the price of the aforementioned "high limit control" ($20 on-line) before deciding to have Sila replace it for 14 times that amount. With the technician having diagnosed the problem for me, I could handle the replacement myself, just two sheet metal screws and reattaching two wires and your done. I didn't learn of the part's cost until afterward *sigh*. This is where my rating of a "D" for the "price" category comes from. I would have assumed that the $85 charge for the service call included the diagnostics. If that assumption is correct, then I just paid $260 to have a $20 part swapped out. I will confess some ignorance of the pricing structure for this profession and maybe this is considered standard pricing, in which case my "D" rating is unfair. However, even assuming that the $85 service charge only pays for a technician to arrive at the house and that the trouble-shooting was part of the $285; he spent the greater portion of the two-hours doing the AC service which only cost $149 with no parts involved. Thus the the heating repair seems pricey.

The Sila technician was very professional, seemed capable, and showed up on time. He recommended that more work be done to the system than we could pay for at that time, so we deferred addtional work. Pricing for the ultimate repair seemed high, but we have a home warranty program and need to work with them to get estimates before we can proceed.

Mike arrived right on time and was pleasant and professional throughout our time together. He was very knowledgeable and responsive to our needs/interests. The estimate for services came in a little higher than the other company we interviewed, so we didn't end up working with them. But we would definitely contact them again in the future.

Sila Heating & Air Conditioning went very, very well. Excellent. The work was done in October. We spent $7500. The sales representative was very cooperative, very friendly. Actually worked with us to get us a very good deal on the units that we had installed. The installation was quick and clean with no problems what so ever. It was done in one day. I like that the sales rep followed up on the initial bid and was trying to make the sale without it being a hard sell at all. It was friendly one to one.

They were very nice and did a good job! They were very responsive and sent out a good team to complete the work.

John and Brian arrived promptly and were very professional. They covered their feet with protective covering before entering the house. They assessed the problem and informed me what it would cost to replace the part and how long it would take to complete the job. They finished the job in less than an hour and also pointed out some other issues that they felt needed to be addressed but were not pushy to have this work completed immediately. I was pleased with the job.
