Pat and his crew did a great job of landscaping my front sides and back yards. Very professional, easy to work with and I am very pleased with new look. My neighbors have given nice comments about the new look.

Did excellent job preparing and seeding lawn after removal of six large pine trees. Very thorough, removed large residual roots left after tree service had grinded tree stumps. Pat removed a number of large bushes, trimmed bushes and cleaned and weeded flower beds.

Pat was very accessible. I like Pat and wish this review could be a 5-star rating. I was able to contact him easily, or his partner, no problem there. But the lower score come from the quality of the grading job. Let me divide the good and bad; they had both. Good: Their prices were good. They helped plan and prepare flower beds around the house and had expert knowledge of the type of plants / bushes that we ended up getting. We are very satisfied with their work on these. As well, during that portion, they suggested installing underground drainage with popup fitting out into the lawn. Again, their price for this addition was great; I'm glad they offered and I'm glad we did it. The Bad: The major cost and biggest part of the project was the grading of the lawn. They were going to grade several big areas of the lawn away from the house down to the sidewalk (away from the house) as we were experiencing water in a corner of the basement and we wanted to do everything we could to eliminate any water in the basement. The work that was done did not accomplish that, but not the fault of the company. As well they created a swail between the neighbors yard and our house to remove water that I feared was draining down the foundation of the house. The grading work was done with a tractor bucket to scrape away the grass and topsoil to grade it down, but, it was very rough when they were done. The places where they dug the swail was certainly low enough (maybe a little too much), but there was little transition from the grade that was untouched to the grade that was dug. I expected it to be a gentle transition. It wasn't. Perhaps the swail was too deep. When all done, the ground under the straw where the seed had been thrown was in clods; not smooth at all. In fairness, they worked in some wet weather, but I think if they couldn't get a good result in that weather, it should have been completed later. I asked them to come out and fix it, and they came out, but the final smoothness looked little different; just moved around a bit. My expectations were higher than the final product from the grading. We agreed that after the seed took, we would evaluate the new grass and they would reseed if necessary. When the grass came up sparse and with weeds, I called. Someone came out but said there wouldn't be anything more done. In the end, I would hire Garnet Valley again for their preparation of the garden beds, and help choosing the type of plants and bushes (they were good with that part). But I would look elsewhere for a good yard grading / seeding company. I rate the value for the money low not because we paid too much for their work, but because they major part of the project didn't meet my expectations and any price was too high for that. I would have wanted them to try to satisfy my projects goals more aggressively.
