Alan Conkling Garage Door Service

They didn't have service for my specific garage door so they couldn't fix it. The only solution was to replace it. The garage door was tangled up so they untangled it so that I could operate it manually. They were responsive and they did a good job.

Spoke with the company and realized I purchased the wrong deal.

The repairman came on time. It only took him about 15 minutes to fix the problem. He gave us advice on how to maintain the gear so the problem wouldn't occur again.

It was easy to make an appointment. They worked around my schedule, which was that I would be available the next day after 12:30pm. They called to say they were on their way. He quickly found the issue, provided the exact cost, and completed the job within a half hour. I couldn't be happier, especially since I wasn't able to close my door when it broke.

I backed into the garage door and knocked the guide wheels out of the track. As I could park outside the garage, I told them it wasn't an emergency, so they came first thing the next morning. The guy who came out reset all the hinges and didn't just mash the wheels back in. Did a great job in about a half hour.

The torsion spring on my 10-year old double-width garage door failed at 3 PM on Friday (12/5/2014). Unfortunately I could not raise the door with the garage door opener or manually, so one of our vehicles was "trapped" in the garage until the garage door could be repaired. I checked Angie's list for recommended garage door companies and called Alan Conkling at about 4 PM. I spoke directly with Alan (did not have to leave a voice-mail) about my problem. He said he could have a technician come by the next day (12/6/2014) and have the door repaired before noon-time. He gave me an estimate for the service call and door repair which seemed reasonable to me after mentioning a $40-off coupon from Angie's list and/or his website that I could apply to the total cost. He asked me to send a picture of the damaged spring to make sure that the service technician had the right size spring on his truck. I took several pictures and emailed them to Alan. On Saturday morning I called Alan at about 8:30 AM to get a time when I could expect the service technician. About 10 minutes later I got a return call from the service technician (Jay) saying that he would arrive about 9:45 AM after completing a job for another customer. Jay actually arrived a few minutes early and very promptly started the repair. He thoroughly checked the the existing torsion springs to make sure that the replacement was an exact match. Jay was very professional, efficient and personable in getting my garage door back in operation in about 30 minutes. Jay then proceeded to inspect, adjust and lubricate both of my single and double-width garage doors. While performing these services, Jay explained what he was doing and answered any questions that I had. In less than one-hour, I had the peace of mind that both garage doors were in great shape and operating properly. The total cost for the service call and repair was the same amount as quoted by Alan the day before. I was very pleased with the prompt, professional and courteous service from Alan Conkling and would recommend his company.

On 11/11/14 or 11/12/14, I purchased $100 for $125 worth of garage door repairs from Alan Conkling Garage Door Service, and received an email acknowledgement from Angie's List on 11/12/14, including the information that my credit card had been charged $100. On Angie's List message on 11/12, I received a message from Alan Conklin, saying he does not serve the Kennett Square area. I responded 11/12 on Angie's List message that Chester County is on his Service Area list on Angie's list, and Kennett Square is in Chester County. Later in the day, he sent me another message saying he has been in business for 14 plus years and has never serviced Kennett Square, but thanks for the call anyway. His 2 written refusals to work in Kennett Square tell me it won't happen. I would like to get my $100 back and find a different service provider. I have not replied to his second message.

local affiliate came and adjusted door track a opener mechanism speed and recalibtarted door function. Every thing is like new.

What a positive and pleasant experience! I called them around 10:15 am this morning and Alan himself answered the phone. It was nice that I didn't have to leave a message and wait for someone to get back to me. The service technician, Jay, was here about an hour later to fix my broken garage door. He was very friendly, courteous and professional and explained to me where things had broken and what the costs were to replace them. Within an hour, everything was up and running smoothly again and my car is no longer trapped in my garage. I will definitely use them again should I need them in the future.

I gave them an F grade because of their lack of response. I have emailed them twice over the course of two weeks and have stil to this date not heard back from them. I contacted another company and have had great response.
