My husband and I visited the Churchville location as walk-in customers. The staff was courteous and professional in greeting us, and pointed out the vinyl window replacement options and let us do our thing. Personally, I appreciate not being hovered over. When we asked for help, someone attended to us, and answered our questions at the basic level. We were also inquiring about hardwood floors, so we were shown to the flooring show room and again left to our own to shop. Overall, the in-store experience was good. So before we left, we scheduled 2 appointments - one for floor measurements and one for a window measurement/consultation. The floor measurement went fine - the person showed up on time, was very professional, polite, courteous, and knowledgeable. However, the window consultation was where it started to fall apart - he showed up late (granted, it was on his way home from work, so there's some flexibility to the agreed upon time), and the first thing he said when he walked in was how he needed to rush out to be somewhere else. When he was finished measuring for windows, he promised us a quote for both the floors and windows within a day or two. The quote never came. We called. He told us another few days. The quote never came. We called. He told us another few days. The quote never came. Finally, I called and left a voicemail 30 minutes before a competitor's representative was coming to the house, and told him if he wanted his bid to be in the running, to send me a quote. *POOF* An hour and a half later, a quote (for windows only) appeared in my inbox. Format of the e-mail was pretty much: Hi, <personal excuse> Window 1: $9500, Window 2: $9650, Window 3: $10050. There was no itemization (which we specifically requested). He also called to tell me there was a problem with the floors. So I spoke to him about the floor problem - we did not have enough room from the top of our refrigerator to the bottom of our cabinets to accommodate the thickness of the wood we had chosen. While on the phone with the representative, I confirmed that the cabinets had a ledge which could be cut (his recommendation), and that we would cut that portion of cabinets in order to fit the floors. I requested that he please send the quote along. I still haven't seen the quote. I'm not sure why we weren't taken seriously, as a walk-in willing to spend ~$15k total (well, I'm guessing, since I never got the floor quote) - maybe because we're on the younger side and brought our baby? Either way, we signed with a different company for the windows - one that valued us as customers and delivered services when promised, unlike Tom Adams.

Dear (Removed Member Name), After reading your comments, I agree with you that you were not treated with the respect that you deserved. As salesmanager of Tom Adams, I am upset with what you wrote. We have been serving customers for over 60 years and our success is based on our ability to inform, educate and meet our customers needs in both flooring and in windows. I am sorry we missed the opportunity to earn your business, and I will have a discussion with our sales representative who did not treat you correctly. He normally is very helpful and a good communicator to his clients. I do not know what happened, but I promise you, he will learn to treat his clients better because of your comments. We work very hard to meet all of customers needs and be truthful in all information. Contact with the company was easy. The person answering the phone was pleasant and efficient. She called back to set a definite date for service. Dennis, the serviceman, arrived early and was pleasant and clearly competent in his approach to analyzing the problem. When he called back to the office to get authorization for the work and the price to be assigned to the job, the conversation was short in time and not overheard by me. Since I had requested help with one window, I was very surprised to hear that he had been told to charge me $100. I gulped hard but knew I had to do something, so I told him to go ahead. The window had not been open-able for more than a year. It turned out that the window had gone too long without lubrication. He applied silicon lubricant and pulled the window up and down until it moved easily. At that point, when I pointed out that the price seemed to me to be excessively high for one window, he immediately said that he would do all the windows in the house (5 more). He rapidly did just that. I thanked him for his work and attitude. I still think the price quoted by the office to fix one window was ridiculously high. For all the windows, the cost was about $16 per window. Some people might not consider that excessive. Having watched him work, I think Dennis had been instructed to charge at the hourly rate commanded by medical specialists. For $8 -$10, I can buy a can of lubricant and now that I know that lubrication should be an annual affair (no-one ever told me that), I will take care of it myself for less than I was charged per window. Someone may not be lucky enough to have Dennis as serviceman. Someone might get just one window fixed for the $100.
Description of Work: When I noticed that the company's van listed repairs as one of their services, I asked this original installer of the windows to send someone to help un-stick my bedroom window, which no-one in the house was able to open.

[member name removed], I am happy that Dennis was able to solve the problem. I see your windows were purchased 11 years ago. Our minimum Service Charge to come to anyone's home is $100 - This is for any home repair and I believe you will find this rate competitive to our industry and others, plumbing, heating/air and others. We pride ourselves in our training and honesty. Dennis fixed the problem quickly and because of the time frame was able to offer additional services to you- since you were charge the minimum rate -by lubricating the additional 4 windows. You have to consider drive time and gas and cost of an insured, certified and trained service person. I understand your feelings but when you breakdown the costs, liabilities and workmanship, it is a fair amount for a minimum service charge. Thank you for your time and if I can be of further service, please call me, Robert 215-357-7000 ext. 138

When I called, I was told that I had to go to the store and pick a carpet before they would measure the space. So I took the hour and half round-trip travel to the store and reviewed the carpeting with a representative. I chose a carpet within my price range. Then was told that they only do measurements on Tuesdays and Thursdays which was inconvenient since we have to take off work. After the measurement, I was contacted by another representative who gave me a cost that was $100 over the original estimate provided by the first representative's estimate. Due to the discrepancy in cost, I asked which carpet they were providing and I was told that they do not have a record of the carpet I selected and that I would have to come in to select another carpet. I chose not to use Tom Adams because they did not value me as a customer (wasting my time), lacked organization and professionalism.
Description of Work: We did not go forward with the provider because they wasted our time. They lacked organization and professionalism in providing us with mis-quotes in price and repeatedly required our time to travel to the store.

[member name removed], I am sorry to hear the experience that you had with us. But I must explain, that all flooring is measured based on the type of flooring that the customer wants and needs. Knowing in advance is important in the layout and transition to the adjoining rooms. In measuring, our estimator works 5 days a week and based upon a first come basis we do fill his schedule quickly. But with all that said, I could not find in our computer that you were measured by our company. Every measurement for consumers gets logged in our computer. I understand that it is possible that a human error in logging my happen, but I searched by your name and address and did not find any record. Is it possible that you have us mixed up with a different company. Maybe as a convenience to you, one of my sales associate came out, but then they would have brought carpet samples. So you see my confusion on what you wrote, so I am asking the courtesy of you calling me so I can find out more information and correct our system so we always give our best service and price. My name is Robert and I am the salesmanager, please call me at 215-357-7000 ext. 138 or e-mail me at Salesmanager@tomadamswc.com I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you

I love, love, love Provia doors and had one installed by Sears some years ago...late last year I purchased three sets of doors from Tom Adams because of all the good reviews they had here on Angie's List...and with a cost of $14k for the doors I expected it to a problem free transaction. It has been anything but that and the hassles continue as I recently learned the doors are not installed correctly and the re-installation that is now required will void the warranty (which is one of the reasons I purchased ProVia in the first place). The doors have to be removed because 2 are not square and the one that is square was installed directly on the floor joists so we can't put in a sub floor in order to install flooring in my kitchen. In the beginning, the installer (Steve) showed up at my home when my architect was there and I asked him to take the measurements for six replacement windows as well as the doors while he was there. He either lost the measurements or forgot and then said it never happened, so the order for the windows never went through, which in retrospect was a blessing for me. Steve installed the 3 sets of doors, 2 of which share the same exterior wall...and each door he installed differently...and the installation of each door grew poorer (otherwise I would have stopped him)...culminating in the final set of doors where he cut two pieces of metal and bent each into a j channel and glued them to the sides of the door so the edges facing out on either side of the door from top to bottom are sharp, dangerous and a shiny silver color...and he used caulk to fill in the bad cuts of trim everywhere. I have never seen so much caulk used on exterior doors or anything else for that matter...there is even noticeable drips from the caulk. On one of the sets of doors the water comes down from the top of the trim and drips out the cuts because there is no drip catcher on top ( sorry I don't know the name of that piece). I sent pictures to Tom Adams with my complaints and after all the pictures, including pictures of the dripping water after a storm, the only reason the sales manager agreed to correct the issues was that the trim color was wrong...turns out that during the sales process there was an issue with the original order in that the wrong trim color was selected/ordered...I was accused of picking the wrong color but I can tell you there was a never a color swatch for the trim presented and the door color is selected via a computer application...then he accused me of preventing them from fixing their work because I cancelled an appointment scheduled during one of the blizzards we had this year and another when it was so cold no one should have been outside and I was "required" to be there...their Service Manager is one the biggest jerks I have ever spoken to and apparently has no idea what customer service is or why he is there...all the while their Collections person, Dottie, is very dedicated to collecting their money regardless of how unhappy the customer is...its a shame they don't unleash her on their installers. I initially agreed to take a credit for the ugly trim work thinking that the install must be okay as I thought the installlers had to be certified by ProVia...apparently that's not true...I have filed a complaint with ProVia and this is quickly shaping up to be to be a lawsuit and a complaint to the BBB as well.

Moved into a new home. Carpeting was finished when we moved in. Small pieces of something (pebbles maybe) in bedroom over area frequently used. When repairman came back for another issue, I asked what it would take to fix and he said oh we could do it but you'd have to move all your furniture. Not too encouraging or friendly. I would say this is sloppy work if the surface under the carpet was not cleared of debris.

Tom Adams had a wide variety of hardwood flooring from which to choose, and understood the installation options for each. We wanted hardwood over a concrete floor, so we were restricted to a relatively thin plank of ~5/8 inch. The particular species, thickness, and plank width that we selected mandated a glue-down installation as opposed to floating. The installers arrived on-time and were eager to proceed. They were very helpful with advice on trim options, etc., and were willing to go to extra trouble to achieve a good result. We especially appreciate the great care taken by the installers to match the ends of the planks to an uneven contour at our fireplace hearth. Their work was very skilled, and we are extremely pleased.

We got bids from 3 local carpet companies for the same carpet. Tom Adams' price was around less than the other 2. The salesman, Rob, was very knowledgeable, responsive and good to work with. He even came to our house to double-check the original estimators measurements. Overall, the sales experience and price were first rate. 2 installers worked all day and, we believe, did their best. Still, the installation was poorly done. The famly room carpet was a white on white square pattern, very similar to the carpet that was replaced. At the entry to the room, where hallway hardwood threshold meets the carpet, the pattern lines are very clearly not square to the threshold. The stairway and upper hallway carpet, also a pattern, was cut and bound to be a runner. The carpet background and binding color are black, but the binding thread is clear, like fishing line. It may as well be white because it is very obvious. Also, the binding threadwork is very sloppy. Some stitches are about 1/8" apart, others are 1/4, with some visible loops, zig-zagging rather than in a straight line, all very noticeable because of the thread color. In the upstars hall, the carpet runner is not square to the walls. After calling the store, Tom Adams sent the original installer back to examine our complaints, which we though was a waste of time as he defended his work. He said the family room problem was that the threshold was not square to the room. Our view is that 3 different people at Tom Adams measured the room prior to installation, and if something was not square, they should have advised there would be a problem, or better yet, dealt with the issue as the installer of the original patterned carpet apparently did . He claimed they used clear binding thread on the stairs because that's all that's available, and the upstairs hallway is also not square. Tom Adams later sent another installer to examine the problems, who essentially said the same thing, though he added the stair and upper hallway carpet pattern may not be square. Tom Adams has taken no further steps to address the issues. We ended up using a black magic marker to color the clear binding thread, which is almost comical after paying $3000+. We rated Professionalism a C, which is the average of A for sales professionalism and F for installation professionalism.

I am sorry for the difficulty that you had - But as discussed, we install pattern carpet square to the room, the doorway was not 90 degree to the wall and the pattern could not be even with and uneven doorway. In regards to the hallway area rug. When binding most binders use a clear thread, this is an industry norm. There are many shades of black and a black binding material with black thread would look worse. I am sorry that you feel we did a less than satisfactory job. I know you said we were the least expensive of the 2 other companies for the same carpet that we all bid on for your project. Obviously you selected and shopped the same pattern carpet and none of the other 2 flooring companies discussed the uneven doorway or binding material prior or you would of been aware of what to expect. Any pattern carpet with lines will show uneven walls, doorways or steps, it is a job condition. It is something that we have been dealing with since pattern wall to wall carpet has manufactured. Again, I am sorry that you feel that we did not meet your expectations, with the product selected. No carpet installer would have been able to complete the job differently

I really like the company. The sales person was very knowledgeable, he was very helpful and very professional. And he was very responsive whenever I called him with questions. The installation crew was great. They came out every day, despite the fact that it was threatening to rain every day, they came out just as long as they could. They finished the work in three days, which was surprising, considering the number of windows that I have. There were very few problems other than the rain, just a couple little things that I asked them to fix. While they were installing the windows, I did have a problem with one screen and they very promptly came out to replace the screens. Just very good company to work with.

What they did is they covered up everything and they cleaned up everything really well, they did do that. The only problem was they had to postpone the installment of my windows a week because the guy was out of the country and then he came back, they use an installer, they don't install, they use somebody else or they contracted to install the windows. I got the windows through them, the windows was very good. I found them to be more expensive than the other ones because I did price 2 other ones, they were more expensive.

Which makes me happy. I realize that you did not know that this installer for your job was a contractor that does 98% of his work for us, but is classified as a sub contractor. We have a few installers are sub contractors, but they all met our high standards for quality workmanship and have passed all industry test for installation. Always remember that all warranties and guarantees come from by us, Tom Adams Windows and Carpets, not our installers. All insurance and commitment to superior workmanship is from us, not our installers If you have any concerns, please call us- you have a lifetime product warranty and our Ultimate Labor Warranty that includes glass breakage. Our Parts, Repair, Service Support team is always here to answer any questions and I have asked them to make an appointment to review your question. Call me if I can be of further assistance, my name is Robert and I am the Sales Manager and can be reached at 215-357-7000 ext. 138- thank you

Sales: We met Paul Staub at the Lehigh Valley Home show. Paul was very pleasant to deal with and he setup an appointment to come out for an estimate. We also made appointments with 2 other companies. Paul came to the house and gave us all the details and info we needed. After getting estimates from 2 other contractors we decided to go with Tom Adams. They had the best combination of price and quality. Installation: John, and his team, arrived on time and worked hard for 2 days. John and his crew were extremely pleasant to deal with. They were professional and neat. John repeatedly asked if I had any questions. I felt they truly wanted to make sure I was happy. At the end of the install, he gave me his cell number. He said I could call with ANY questions, concerns or problems. He said they were there to "work for me!" I couldn't be happier with Tom Adams.

We went with them because they were price competitive and then overall, I wasn't happy with the installation of the service. **** 9/11/13 I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge this review for a few reasons. First, I wasn't even aware before today that this review existed. I answered a call a few months ago from Angie's List, and I answered specific questions about my experience with Tom Adams Windows. Looking at the data or content that made it into the review I see that they didn't do a stellar job transcribing the information (by way of examples, the price was off by roughly 10x, and "installation of the service" should probably read more like, "installation of the windows". What is accurate, on the other hand, is the grading for each of the areas listed above based on my opinion alone. I do agree with Robert B's response that hearing about something after so much time has passed isn't timely. However, neither my wife nor I recall having received a call or voicemail after the work was done. Maybe we missed the call; maybe we never got it. Neither of us remember a call so we can only speculate.

Dear (deleted member name), It is troubling to hear that after 2 1/2 years of the completion of your window job, we never heard from you. After every installation our sales representatives are required to call their customers to confirm that we have met all expectations. Rich, your sales person called and left a voice message, but never heard back. We also send out customer survey cards, on all installations, asking our customers to rate our sale people, Installation and overall satisfaction of their job. We did not receive any response from you, which would cause us to call you, in attempt to rectify any problem. Our assumptions were that your installation met your satisfaction, since we never heard back. I left a voice message on your home phone, today, to find out how we did not meet your expectations. You mentioned "installation of the service", but in checking with our service department, I found no service record, ever. As sales manager my goal is always, to use our best efforts in meeting all customer satisfactions. I would hope you would give us that opportunity. Please call me at your earliest convenience at 215-357-7000 ext. #138 - Thank you- Robert B. Salesmanager, Tom Adams Windows & Carpets

We went to their store and had a great salesman who did not pressure us at all. I thought it would take a long time but it took barely 15 minutes to pick out what we wanted. The contracts were signed and we were home within the hour. The salesman came out a few days later to take initial measurements. This was followed a few days later by the actual installer, who double checked the measurements. It took a few weeks for the windows to come in which gave me time to take down all the window treatments. They called about ten days before the actual installation to schedule the work. On the day of the replacements, the workmen arrived on time and worked tirelessly. It took about 6-7 hours. They were very pleasant and professional and worked quickly. The clean up was quite well done. I was very happy with the entire process and enjoyed the people we met.
Description of Work: Replaced approximately 10 windows.

They provided a few options and were very knowledgeable in telling me the pros and cons of each material and how the door was going to look. They took us to their showroom. They made the process very easy. They responded to our call very quickly. They have done good so far. I'll have to see how the final product is.
Description of Work: We got a quote from Tom Adams Windows And Carpets. They are going to install a sliding door. The door needs to be custom made for the size so it hasn't been installed yet.

After I torn up the wall-to-wall carpet in our dining room, the 47-yr. old hardwood floor beneath looked to be in good shape but we didn't like the color. Wife spoke to salesman Rick at Tom Adams who was quite helpful and very knowledgable. Original appointment had to be rescheduled (because of Hurricane Sandy). Process took about 4 days--sanding, staining (red oak), 2 coats of polyurethane. The floor finisher was very neat, took care to seal the room from dust, etc. Did a wonderful job of staining evenly. Very happy with the outcome. I chose to do the moulding myself as it saved $120, but I also like doing that type of work. After the floor had cured completely (about 2 weeks later), they came back to move the breakfront into the dining room. Very happy with all aspects of the project.

The whole experience was a very good one. From our sales person to the workmen who did the installation everyone was very professional and knowledgeable and know the product and their trade well. They arrived on time on the day of installation and had everything completed and cleaned up in less than six hours. Prices are higher than what the well known retail chains charge, but the quality of their doors far exceed what the chains offer and with the chains you never know who's going to show up the do the installation which was a huge concern after hearing horror stories from friends and doing research online. We plan on having Tom Adams replace our windows in the future and we highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a quality product and the professionalism that is so hard to find these days.
Description of Work: We had our sliding glass patio door, front entry door & storm door installed by Tom Adams Windows and Carpets. They even replaced some of the capping around the doors. We live in a condo with continuity rules and everything had to match or be similar in style and color to the previous doors and then be approved by a board of association members. Our sales person was very professional and very knowledgeable. He was able to find us the exact colors to match the previous doors and capping along with the door styles to meet the board members approval. They even replaced the wood molding around the entry door on the inside and also around the patio door which we were very happy about.

They arrived on time & finished in a few hours & were very careful because we just had the room painted by CertaPro. I would use this company again in the future. I have used them for years. They also did other carpets in my hall & stairs years ago & installed 3 doors & all my replacement windows over the years.
Description of Work: Tom Adams installed rugs today in my master bedroom. The price included ripping out the old rugs & installing the new carpeting. It also included the padding. We did not buy the most expensive but not the cheapest either.
