Toran Heating & Air Conditioning

The service was fine, he was very nice, and honest. It was easy to set an appointment, and he was upfront about central air conditioning units are going to be changing in the near future, and probably cost more. I had to pay an additional amount for the coolant.

My old (truly vintage) gas boiler came to a screeching end in the middle of a frigid winter night. I left a message early in the morning with Toran Heating & Air Conditioning and got a prompt call back. Art Toran was on my doorstep in person by 10am to investigate the situation. I ordered a new boiler and the crew arrived right on schedule the next morning to install it. Their service was friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. They had the old one removed and the new one up and running by mid-afternoon. They gave me some tips on bleeding my radiators and left everything in good shape. Art stopped by a couple of times during the job and was there at the end as well to check on the installation and to make sure I was satisfied. I'm planning to have Toran perform annual service checks. They are at the top of my list for any future heating and A/C needs.

In the midst of The Polar Vortex, our ancient house heater was diagnosed by PGW as putting out much too much carbon monoxide and they shut it off. I went to Angie's List and found the Toran listing. They had a very good rating and answered the phone when I called. Mr. Toran came over that day and said he was not comfortable attempting to clean an old furnace like ours and recommended replacing. I have never been so relieved, having worried about the old heater for some time. It was old 23 years ago when we moved in. There was one big snow day when no one could get out, but the next day at 9am Mr. Toran and the crew appeared with the new heater. They worked on removing the old heater and then brought the new one in and began to install it. They drained the water from the system, and when the new heater was installed, they refilled the system and balanced the nine radiators. They put drapes down to prevent dirt. They were unfailingly courteous, and worked as quickly as they could. Later I had a question about the expansion tank, and when I called Mr. Toran, he answered right away and even came over to see what was going on himself. We are very happy with the whole thing and would certainly use Toran again .

Called and spoke with Art, who made an appointment with me to come out on the 21st of January, unfortunately it was the day of the big snowstorm. I called that morning to see if he would be able to make it, as they are located in my area. He mentioned we should talk the following week to reschedule. So I rang him this week, monday and we set a date for today 12/30/14 between 2-230 pm. I called him this morning and wanted to confirm but no one was available to speak with. I finally got a call from him at about 1pm and he told me he wasn't sure he could make it at that time, but he could call me back in a few mins to let me know....and I never heard back from him. He just totally dropped the ball and left me hanging. This is the second company I've found on Angieslist that has done this to me, and I find it very strange that in this slow economy companies would disregard potential jobs so effortlessly. Honestly, after this kind of experience, I personally would not look to hire a company with such poor communication ethics, even before the job starts. I take this a serious red flag..maybe you should too.

Art was very responsive with both the estimate and the installation. His crew was very professional and efficient as they were able to install a four-unit Mitsubishi ductless HVAC system in one day. There were also a couple of modifications needed after the system was installed and they came out next-day to fix them.

I just didn’t get a good feeling. I told him that I was thinking about updating my system, he said he would get back to me with the quote and he never did. I didn’t want to badmouth him because he did come out and he looked at it but he didn’t really say anything about how to improve anything. My air conditioning was not cooling my house and all he said was to put a less restricted filter in, which I think is fine only if you like dust all over your house. I didn’t think he said anything valuable so I don’t have anything positive or negative to say about him. He just came out, took a quick look and said the system is about where it should be and there was nothing wrong with it or right with it. So, I didn’t get any real feedback. If I want to get a new system put in, I probably will not go to them. I don’t think it is a major company, I think it is a small one, which I have no problem with, but he didn’t come across to me as he was really well established. Normally when you do business with a company that is established, they got a whole procedure they go through with and tell you upfront what they are going to do after checking everything and will make recommendations afterwards but he didn’t do any of that. He came in and said my levels were okay, said I have cold air coming in but it was not going through the system very well and that I need a new filter. In my opinion, it was not a major company. He didn’t come across as a salesman; he didn’t come across as very positive or negative. He did what he said he would do but he didn’t. He offered to give me a quote for a new system I told him I was going to get next year and that was it.

We are incredibly happy with our experience. I initially got a very high estimate from another company and wanted a second opinion. I called Toran heating late after hours and Art called me right back! He quickly scheduled a time to come give an estimate and was flexible about coming in the evening when I was available after work. He was able to schedule our replacement very shortly after the estimate. When they came for the installation (right on time), they laid down tarps to keep our floor clean and quickly removed our old unit, brought in a new unit and installed it. All of the guys on the team were incredibly friendly and answered all of my questions about the process. Art, the owner, was here for most of the install. Art also gave me a recommendation for a duct cleaner who was also very responsive! As he left, Art mentioned that he would come back and check on the unit in the spring to make sure the a/c was ready to go! This is the second time we've used Toran heating and have been very pleased (the first time was to fix our a/c). Their price was less than we were quoted from other companies and they did a great job. I trust them and would highly recommend them!!!

I was very happy with the service Art Toran provided. The house in question is a rental home I own with my sister but we live in another state. When my tenant contacted me about the heater not working I found Art on Angie's List. I called and left a message and he returned my call within 15 minutes. Art went out and looked at the heater and we quickly agreed on a scope of work and price. He performed the work the next day. My tenant was very happy with the installation and the professionalism of the crew. All along the way Art kept me informed as to the heaters status and the work he performed. I would use Art again.

The team of three guys were on time and first ensured the house was kept clean by moving furniture out of the way and laying down tarps on the floor. The owner was called on a service call for client, but his two assistants stayed and were able to remove both units within the first hour. Despite the owner not overseeing them, the guys worked quickly (and I appreciate the fact that if the owner receives a call at any time, he always answers his phone and goes to help if he can). He also brought everyone donuts when he came back! Once the units were installed, one of his assistants went through the house and bled all the radiators in every room. While he did that, I asked the owner a question unrelated to what they were doing (it involved turning off the outside water valve) and he helped me out with that as well. When they were finished with the install, they checked that the thermostat was working properly by turning it on and off and adjusting the temperature. They worked from about 9am and finished cleaning everything up by 3pm. I've never had to replace such large units so I don't know how long these projects usually take or the average rate. He did give me a $300 discount for finding him through Angie's List! It's clearly a small operation so you feel good about supporting a small business. He definitely takes pride in his business and is very serious about his clients being happy with the work. I have plans next year to install A/C and I will definitely give Toran Heating a call when I do so!

Very good follow-through, contract details were clear, workmanship was well done with Art managing the process and ensuring that from start to finish, things were implemented as planned. Art and his team were customer focused, professional, prompt and had the job done within the time allotted and were able to produce quick turnaround time from the time or order to final delivery.

With winter not too far off I discovered that the very old, large gas forced air furnace in my 2 bedroom row house rental needed to be finally replaced. I am an out of town landlord and really needed to find someone trustworthy with good references and decent price. Art always answered the phone when I called, quickly went out to the property to give me an estimate. A week later the old furnace was removed and the new one installed. No fuss, no muss. My tenant tells me they left the house as clean as they found it. Art also recommended that the filter be cleaned a couple of times a year and that the tenant could call him if he needed to know how to do it. I appreciate that. Since it's still early autumn I haven't had the opportunity to see if the furnace is working okay but there is a parts and labor warranty.

Very well. The final price came under the estimate. The crew that did the job were professional, courteous and friendly. They worked hard and were careful of the residence (Condo). Art (my contact) worked to give me what I needed in a professional manner. I would use them again.

I e-mailed them on 9/23/2013 asking if the serviced radiators and never heard from the company.

There were very responsive, very quick, they did work in one day and it was very clean.

Toran had one crew removed old oil tank. They had to cut into pieces in order to get it up our narrow basement stairs. They covered the floors before bringing the pieces through the house. Then had another crew install the new gas furnace. The crews were prompt, very tidy and professional. I will use them again.

The inspection was adequately performed and Big Deal price was reasonable. I had trouble scheduling the appointment and had to deal with a couple of last minute cancellations.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. I purchased 2 of the Deals. It worked out all right. They were courteous and I was satisfied with the service. He explained to me what he was doing. One of the units was not working and he explained that I might need to buy a new unit. I knew that was something that was coming up. They were punctual.

They were very informative & responsive to my phone calls with additional questions. I interviewed 6 HVAC contractors for this job and Toran and another vendor (my eventual choice) were a tie & both were much better in thoroughness, promptness, product info, service & price than the other 4. I simply had to choose one( by a coin flip.)

Mr Toran was prompt to give us a quote and to let us know when he could perform the job. His crew came on the date he said they would, worked long hours under terrible heat conditions in the attic, and finished the job in a timely fashion. Very professional and courteous. The price was a bit salty but the crew had to create an access to the attic in order to reach the old unit that seemed to have been placed there 50 years ago when the house was built. They then proceed to close that up, leaving a small window for future access. A lot of work, in 95F weather.

Mr. Toran was always prompt with his communication with us. He came and finished when he said that he would do so. The job took 3 days, but was worth the extra effort on our part as we had been quoted $8,900.00 for a one day installation by another company. Art and his team were receptive, respectful of our home and ourselves. I was greatly impressed by their service as sometimes it is difficult to work with a small company in terms of response time, however Mr. Toran was easy to reach and always made calls and visits when he said that he would do so. I did not have to "chase" him as I have done many times before with smaller companies. Overall, it was an easy experience.

Toran did an excellent job! They were able to begin work much sooner than the other contractors I contacted and arrived early on the day of the appointment. Everything went smoothly and they finished installing the A/C unit in the time they had allotted for the job which was one day. They did a great job of cleaning up and answering all of our questions. The price for the air conditioner and the installation was right in the ball park with the other quotes I received and we are extremely happy with our new air conditioner!!!

They arrived on time and finished when they were supposed to. I said I needed to get the project done by a certain date, and they were able to do it well in advance. The cost was reasonable to me. The mess was minimized, and I felt very comfortable with the workmen in my home. They were friendly, respectful, and knowledgeable. The experience was exactly what you would want and expect for a quality service provider.

They delivered as promised above. The job was finished in approximately 5 hours. I was satisfied with the work of the installers and received great service throughout the process.
