Toran Heating & Air Conditioning

Came out promptly on 9/28. I was told the estimate would come on Nov 5. Didn't get the estimate until 10/11 by which time I had already hired someone. Though moot, the estimate was 20% higher than the 2 others I received.

We received several estimates on installing three separate Mitsubishi Split systems in our 1895 three story house with radiator heat. One in the dining room on the first floor and two on the second floor, in the bedroom and the family room. Mr. Toran was very prompt and detailed in the initial two visits explaining the systems, the way in which the work would be done and by whom, his supervision and the followup post installation. His estimate was reasonable and we liked the fact that he was readily available by phone for any ore installation questions. The process of installation while complicated given the age of the house went very smoothly. the crew was careful, clean, and very polite. Again, they responded to any concerns or questions and finished the work in a day and a half. We liked their willingness to do the units on the second floor completely on the first day so we could sleep and relax. The protected our furniture and were careful with art and other valuable objects. They also understood that we had three cats that we needed to keep on the top floor and out of the way and called both mornings to give us sufficient time to do this. The work involves both inside and external operations and we were impressed with how efficiently they did this and also explicated what was going on. The unit on the first floor was installed on the second day and was more difficult because of the way in which the house is built. Nonetheless they finished in half a day. The clean up and replacement of furniture and the protection for items that could not be moved was excellent. Mr. Toran carefully went over all the operations of the controls several times to two senior citizens and came back the next day to make some adjustments to the dining room unit. We are very happy with the units and the cooling they provide during this hot summer. They are quiet and cool quickly so we can shut off the units in two of the rooms when we go to sleep and put them on in the morning when we get up and in less than 5 minutes we are comfortable. The outside compressor is very quiet. We do not hear it and that is wonderful considering that our neighbors compressors are very noisy. We appreciated the professionalism, courtesy and the excellent communication and would use Toran Heating and Air-conditioning again and recommend them to others. Finn and Barbara , Philadelphia

Had to have an old forced air furnace replaced and a new central air system installed. Art from Toran was quick to get out to give me an estimate which was competitive with other bidders. I went with Toran and Art and his guys were out within 2 weeks and finished the installation within a day. They were timely, clean and did a good job and I would recommend them to others.

Toran provided an estimate for an A/C replacement in my attic. Estimator was timely and produced proposal quickly. Toran would likely have done the job well but we opted to go with a more competitive bid.

Art and his team were great from start to finish. He came promptly and when he said he would and gave an estimate in line with the others. I chose him because of his level of professionalism. The work was done quickly and with very little disturbance of my routine (I work from home). There were a few kinks to work out and there was a prompt reply and it was resolved quickly. As to the choice of what we installed, I wish we had done it earlier. We were able to keep the entire house 3 stories, stone construction reasonably cool all summer without having to have ducts installed. We reached target temperature in the rooms that they were located in and passively cooled the other areas sufficiently. Now, it's cold out and we're using the gas furnace as a back-up to maintain a minimum temperature and then "spot heating" the areas where we are most of the time with warmer temperatures with the splits that adjust easily and with a quick response.

Kept us informed prior to delivery and during actual work. Initial visit determined best furnace fro replacement and layout of the space it would be housed. On the actual installment day, they were prompt for the 9 am appointment and set to work immediately. They were efficient, professional, cleaned up afterwards, tested unit and instructed us on its use. Out request to set the unit on cinder blocks to have it off the floor was met with no resistance or flack. The owner, Art, even called us a week later to be sure we had no problems and was the work to our satisfaction -- something unheard of with most contractors (out-of-sight;; out-of-mind approach). We had a number of cold weather days after the new heater was installed and it performed admirably. Kudos to Toran! Professional, priced reasonably and follow-up when completed, What's to complain about?

Our landscaper informed us that our AC Condenser had to be disconnected after the first day on the job. I called Toran Heating and Air Conditioning after hours and they were able to get someone on site within 24 hours. Even though I was at work they were able to coordinate the time and do the job via phone while I was at work. Super convenient!

This company installed a high efficiency boiler for us in 2009. In fall 2013, I called to set up an appointment and never heard back from them. Figured the heater was working fine since being installed - no complaints - so put it off another year. This year I made it a point to get it inspected. Called in early November, was told by the owner that someone would be out the following week. No one came, so I called again. Sounded like they never heard of me so took all my info down again and said they'd be out the following Tuesday. Tuesday comes and goes - no show. Called them the following day and said "since there was a recent storm (rain?!) they were busy and would have to come out the following week. Again, took my info down like they never heard of me. Two months have no gone by and it's safe to assume they're not coming and probably have no record of me whatsoever. Each time I called, I spoke to the owner and it sounded like he was scribbling my info in a pad or something. This is the owner I was talking to, mind you. When redoing the utility room where the boiler is located, I decided to do my own quick inspection while I search for a new service provider. Cleared out some drywall where the PVC exhaust exits the house and a big chunk of mortar fell out that was allowing a draft in the entire time. They also notched out a support beam to put the exhaust where they did. Then I noticed the pump to drain water out of the system was struggling. Turns out they zip-tied the tubing to a hot water pipe and it was completely flattened, putting unnecessary stress on the motor. Put in some new tubing and now it drains in seconds, whereas before it took over a minute to pump the water out. Probably would've blown the motor had I not noticed it. Glad they did me a favor by never following out because I'm sure these issues would've been swept under the rug or I'd have been charged for the fixes.

Art was excellent. I felt comfortable with him immediately and knew that I could trust him in my home for the job. He was able to squeeze my new heater install in before the holidays, which was a big relief. I whole-heartedly recommend Toran Heating and Air Conditioning for reasonably priced and reliable service!

The work was done on time without any trouble.

Overall, Toran did a nice job. Anytime I had a question or concern, Art would address the issue immediately to make sure everything was done properly.

Art was highly responsive, came in with a very competitive price, mobilized extremely quickly, and showed up personally for both the estimate and the installation, to make sure that the intangibles I'd mentioned were taken into account at critical junctures. The team was friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and clean & considerate. I frankly can't think of any complaints or even constructive criticism!

When I called for an appointment, the provider said he was very busy and would call me in a couple weeks after his schedule cleared. He did not call. I contacted him the following April, after a heating tune-up would not be useful, to cancel the deal.

Overall, the job was well done, I believe. Mr. Toran provided the solid equipment as specified and completed the installation in the time period he specified as well -- so far everything looks very good. I think the real test of quality will be to make sure the installation is solid without problems a couple of years down the road. Mr. Toran also provided a good 7-year warranty on parts and labor -- of course, this will be as good as his willingness to honor it, should the need arise. First of all, I can understand others concerns about his responsiveness on initial quotes. This was a bit slow for us, as well, but he did provide us a quote that was very competitive. Mr. Toran is no nonsense and straightforward, without a lot of sales pitch, which I like. I believe the mechanic he had work on our boiler and water heater installation was very competent, though it is difficult for me to judge the quality of the workmanship. They were clean, polite, and on time with what they promised. There was one small hiccup. During the installation, a gentleman contracted by the gas company must come and install the gas meter outside the house. There are certain requirements in place, including a galvanized pipe going through the wall that will not rust when damp. Mr. Toran's people did not have the correct pipe going through the wall, so they had to run out to the store and get a replacement. It seems to me like they should have known this -- they claimed that they thought they could paint with galvanized paint. They seemed to be trying to cheap it out here -- so I hope that is not indicative of the rest of the job. The other issue is, the guy who came to remove the oil tank, while he did a good job, he was not at all pleasant. He ripped a plastic window cover off my basement window that was attached by two screws (looking for a place to run his hose for draining the oil), and just set it back in place without any acknowledgement that now it was no longer screwed down -- so, I guess this is something I will have to take care of. But, on the big things it was well done. The large oil tank was removed without a mess and without any damage to my house, so for this I give them kudos. Overall, I guess a well done job -- of course, there are little ways one would like to see the job and house treated with a bit more respect.

I called on a Friday to set up an appointment and ask questions regarding converting from oil to gas. I believe I spoke with Al. He answered some of my questions but I felt he was trying to get me off the phone by promising to call and set up an appointment on Monday. Monday came and went without a call. On Wednesday he called and said he was in the neighborhood and could he come by later in the afternoon to look at the job. He arrived, looked at the job, measured, and said it would take about a week for him to get back to me with a proposal. I never heard from him again. Very unprofessional not to call and at least say he couldn't take the job.

Art Toran was an excellent contractor. He carefully explained the price/performance trade-offs before the sale. He gave the best price and installed on time. His work inside and outside was clean. The two systems worked well from the beginning. He was friendly and informative about the operation of the units. I would highly recommend his company to anyone else.

I went with Toran without getting other bids because when I was having problems with another contractor last year, I called Toran for some impartial advice and he was unbelievably helpful and generous with his time. Based on the estimates from the other contractor and some discussions with family members in the business, I knew he was in the basic ballpark with price. He was responsive and professional.

I am a previous customer and called to request maintenance on my air conditioner. He asked if I had purchased my unit from them, and when I said I didn't, he stated he would not come out, even though I am a previous customer. He said they are so busy with installations they don't have time for anything else. I was very happy with their prior service, which is why I came back to them. I am very disappointed in how things have changed since I last used Toran.

Art the owner was personable and engaged throughout he process including the day the unit was installed. His crew did a very nice job on the install despite some pouring rain showers and left my utility area tidy. I have used the unit several times since the install and am very happy with the results.

They were fast and professional. They kept the work area clean and did not leave much for me to clean up after. They were responsive to my questions and were able to fit the instillation to what I wanted and what the layout of my house would support. There was one issue with a leak after the instillation, and they were very good about fixing it.

He was very disorganized and unprofessional when speaking on the phone but because ratings were high on Angie's List, gave the company a try. Then he never showed up or called at our scheduled appointment.

I left a phone message but never heard back from the company.

No Call / No show. I would have had other work for him but not now.
