Toran Heating & Air Conditioning

Toran installed the furnace the same week we decided to go with him, the cost was cheaper than the other estimates we got. Also, we had to ask for the more expensive model, Art didn't try to up sell us to something we didn't need.

I received several estimates to replace an old gas boiler. Art Toran gave me prices on both 84% and 90% boilers. His reasonable price and the government tax credit allowed me to opt for the higher efficiency boiler. His crew showed up on time, were very polite, and completed the job in a timely manner. They moved both the old and the new boilers through my narrow row home without damaging anything. Art Toran stopped off at the job site both days they were working, and made sure my new boiler was up and running properly when his men were finished. Work area in my home was left clean and tidy.

The owner and his staff did a great job at working around the challenges of installing the attic duct work in a limited space and within our time schedule. We are very pleased with the final project and would use Troan heating again.

No work was performed because they kept telling me that they'd call to schedule an appt. No appt. was scheduled even though they called to tell me, they'd call me back. They called 3 or 4 times with the same story ("we'll call you back"). The last time they called, the serviceman said he'd be in my area on a Sunday morning and would call before coming to my house. No one ever called or showed up. I was willing to wait for their availability but I guess they were too busy with other jobs to actually call back and schedule an appt. or simply not interested in the job I had as described to them in an email and over the phone. I am no longer willing to wait and will keep looking on Angie's list for a heating company that services or replaces boilers/steam heating systems in my area.

I called Toran to schedule a time for them to look at our furnace which needs replacing, in order to give an estimate. They were originally scheduled to come on Tuesday after 1pm. Well no one showed up and then at 6:45pm someone called and asked if they could come in about a half hour. We said he could come, but had another appointment scheduled for 8pm. He chose not to come. He asked if we could do Wed which was not possible for us. We offered Thurs or Fri but he could not make it until Sun. So we scheduled time at 2:30pm on Sun. It is now 6:45pm on Sun and no one has arrived or called. After rescheduling both our Sunday and Tuesday to be available, we are very disappointed in their responsiveness and professionalism.

We are very, very satisfied. They were constantly communicating with us. I would use them again in the future and would also recommend them to others.

We were very pleased with the job. The air conditioning is working well. We are looking forward to warmer winter at a lower cost!

It went fine. But they were not able to install a high efficiency unit because the entrances to my house are to osmall to accomodate a unit that large.

Art is knowledgeable and experienced. He listened to our needs and recommended what he felt was the appropriate solution to our problem. The system is great and we finally have cool air on our 3rd floor.

I found Toran Heating on Angies List and sent an email on a Sunday afternoon. Art Toran called me that night. He came out that week. I had lots of questions, and he answered them all -- every time I asked them. He worked with me at length to come up with the right configuration for my house at the best price for me and then pulled it all together for me in what I thought was record time. I signed the contract on a Sunday (Art came out on a Sunday because I was a little desperate) and I was in the cool by Wednesday. The guys who work with Art are pleasant and courteous. It was a pleasure working with this company. I'll have Art back out in a month or so to do maintenance on my furnace. On top of an exceptional experience with Toran Heating, I have to say that I'm very impressed with the ductless split system. So glad I went with that system! It's so cool and quiet. Even the rooms that don't have a unit are cool. I'm still astounded by how comfortable my rowhouse is. I never believed I could have central air! Thanks Art! Just a note -- I got quotes from two other companies that were highly rated, Art provided more flexible solutions and offered the best price.

Great service! Luckily they managed to squeeze me in during this very hot summer heat wave. Everyone was friendly and courteous and took care to leave things neat and clean each day when they finished. I had an explanation of what would happen before the job started and then Art took the time to show me some basic maintenance tips. It was a very good experience and now I am enjoying keeping cool!

Mr. Toran came on time to provide us with the estimate for the system. His employees finished the job as scheduled. Overall everyone was professional, responsive and responsible. The work was done over two days. Mr. Toran seemed to know his client tell, he did not use sale pressure tactic on us. His price originally was not among the best but he was willing to reduce the price at the end. Overall, it was a positve experience.

Art Toran was great to work with. I wanted to research his suggestions on the web and he was very helpful in giving me all the information necessary to do so. Our AC crashed during a heat wave and our former HVAC company, while very polite about it, simply did not attach much importance to expediting a visit to develop an estimate, and then profferred a more costly (but otherwise the same) solution. On the day that Toran was to perform the work, he called to say that the AC unit had not yet been delivered to the distributor. Understanding that we were sweltering, Art convinced the distributor to release another unit that was being held for another contractor who had not yet collected it and installed the AC, coil, furnace, and thermostat on the promised day, and then promptly delivered the paperwork to enable us to file for the various energy rebates and credits that are available. Art Toran could not be more accommodating.

We received quotes from several of the top HVAC companies on Angie's List and Toran was the best. They did a great job on a tough install. All equipment was moved to and from the 4th floor and the roof without a crane. The AC works well, and they will stop by after Labor Day for a complimentary heating check before winter hits. They absolutely deserve all the positive reviews that they've gotten here.

Art and his crew were prompt and courteous. They worked very hard; removing my old oil furnace, oil tank and installing a chimney liner, gas boiler unit and hot water tank in 2 days. His original estimate was within my budget and the final cost was NOT MORE than the original proposal. He even came out the following Sunday to sign a Pa. rebate application form which I had just downloaded from my computer. You need not ask me if I would use Toran Heating again. Art and his crew are honest. That alone is refreshing in the world of contractors.

They missed their first appointment (he tried to show up on a Tuesday when we had agreed on a Thursday). We rescheduled for the original appointment date (Thursday) and he missed it again. No phone call. He called again the next week and we rescheduled yet again - trying to be flexible since the reviews on Angie's List had been good - and he called the day before to push off the time. He then called two more times on the day of the appointment to reschedule (an additional hour each time). My assistant called back to cancel altogether that day since we couldn't wait yet another hour - and he was rude to her. He then later had the audacity to call back again and ask if we were still interested. Absolutely not!

They took two days to complete the job. They could have started earlier then they did each day.

While it took a few calls to Toran to get them over for this small job, given the size of the job and how hot it has been in Philadelphia, I was impressed with their responsiveness. They were quick, professional and neat. I would definitely use them again.

Toran visited 2 different times, first to see if repair was possible of the AC unit, 2nd time to come up with an estimate for replacement. Both experiences were very good. We eventually went with a different contractor because we wanted to get the job started quickly and Toran wasn't available to start right away. These seem like very professional and upright contractors.

Art got back to me as promised, discussed the possible causes of the problem and promised to have someone do the repairs the following morning. The next day I got a call from Joe, the assigned repairman, who arrived as scheduled, quickly identified the problem as a failed power supply connector on the compressor, replaced it and tested the system. Everything worked fine. Joe also showed me how to clean the coils and provided additional information on routine maintenance on the system. Throughout the process Joe was professional and helpful, explaining what he was doing and answering my questions. I was happy with the service, from the initial call to the final bill. This was an "A" grade experience in every respect! Thanks to Art, Joe and to Angie's List.

Scheduled an estimate and took a day off from work to meet with Toran. No one showed up at the appointed time. When I called they had "forgot" about the appointment. Offered to reschedule for some day in the future - I did not accept.

For the same Trane/Aprilaire products, Toran provided an estimate almost 10% below the other one I received. The work took three days, with the two-man crew arriving at the agreed upon time promptly, doing their work in a professional manner, responding to the few concerns I mentioned, and leaving the surroundings spotless. Art Toran himself, from the estimate through the final review, was fully accessible and always listening. Overall: very satisfied and very relieved to have such a major undertaking go so easily.

They are the only contractor that I've had in the past year that were exceptionally good. The owner came out before the installation and outlined all the cost, what work was going to be done, and had references. They run a very efficient operation. They removed my old furnace from a tight space and did so without damaging the walls. They also honored a special request to raise the furnace and they also cleaned up everything after the work done. I've yet to see any contractor do as good of work as them. Out of numerous contractors I have used, Toran was by far the best, honest and skilled. After the work was complete, the owner pointed out things that I should know and told me to call if I had problems. I really appreciate how fast the work was done. They stayed all day, in the cold, to finish the work and I really appreciate that.

I was considering having a High-Velocity AC system installed in my Queen Village townhouse, but after having 3 HVAC companies come to give estimates, I decided to go with a triple mini-split unit instead (still too much ductwork required for High Velocity). One company never called back after I changed my mind to mini-splits; the other, Unique Indoor Comfort, gave me a REALLY high price--in fact, I think I could have had my whole house sliced up and traditional ducts run everywhere for what they would charge. But Toran Heating was behind me all the way! They listened to my ideas, they offered practical suggestions, and overall, I just had a really good feeling about them--like they are an honest, old-fashioned family contracting business that lives by their reputation. Art Toran and crew came on time when they said they would (none of the all-too-usual 'family emergencies' or 'illnesses'), they did the work quickly, neatly, and with a smile. And, they were the low bid! I had a slight complication in my installation-- I've been renovating for the past few years, and it's to where I'm having the walls and ceilings sheetrocked and everything will be closed up again. So this was my last chance to have AC installed without having to retrofit into finished construction. Two of the rooms were ready for HVAC installation, but the third was still unfinished. I asked if they could just run all the tubing in the walls and ceiling, but leave them capped off so I could finish the construction over the Summer. Art agreed to that and said he could come back when I was ready and finish the last hookup (for a small extra charge, of course, which is only fair!). And, I can say from experience, that is the sort of request that sends most contractors running away, never to return your phone calls again! And one more thing-- when they picked up my unit from the wholesaler, there was some cosmetic damage to the exterior unit's case that wasn't really noticeable unless you knew how to look at it. But they took it right back and got another unit for me. Some contractors would have installed it anyway and hoped no one noticed! Art also gave me an assessment of the other systems such as my hot water heater and the condition of my chimney, and made some helpful recommendations on improvements that should be done. I look forward without reservation to calling him back in the near future. Well done!

I located Toran from Angie's list. Since the heater to be replaced was a Rheem, I also contacted their recommended contractors. All the bids were in the same ballpark, but Toran was selected because of its superior professionalism and knowledge. This was an emergency heater replacement and had to be done within days. They started and completed the work in the exact time frame promised. I am the owner of the property but had to go out of town. I left one blank check with the occupant of the property, not remembering that I would have to give a downpayment and final payment. I offered to increase the downpayment because I would not be back at the conclusion of the job, but Toran said I did not need to do this - that he only required the standard downpayment, and trusted that I would pay the balance upon my return, which was several days after the job was completed. I settled with him when I returned -the heater works well and the occupant (my mother-in-law) is very happy.
