Toran Heating & Air Conditioning

Art was very prompt, responsive and courteous, and he got the job done very fast, for less money than other places had quoted us for similar services. We're excited about the system because it is extremely quiet, allows zoning for different rooms, and also does not require ductwork (basically they stick a 3-inch or so tube out the side of the house, which goes down to the main condenser unit outside) -- which was a requirement for our home, since it's really old and ductwork was not possible. if I were coming at this fresh, one thing I would be sure to clarify is whether the system will be mounted on the wall, or actually recessed into the wall (the latter would be much more expensive, I'd expect). The dimensions Mitsubishi gives on its site (that it protrudes 12 inches from the wall) appear to be for the recessed version, which would also have the benefit of allowing the tube to be hidden within the wall, rather than sitting on it. Ours seem to protrude closer to 14 inches, and the piping is visible (they covered it with a line cover for us). Also, I'd definitely recommend being at the house when the guys first get there so that you can discuss in detail -- and in person -- *exactly* where you want the units to go. We ended up changing some positions at the last minute, and I'm very grateful I was there to get their advice and clarify details. Our one complaint is that while Art himself was very courteous and responsive, his subcontractors were very messy, leaving dirt/brick and plaster dust on the floor and holes in the walls that we will now have to pay someone to fix. I understand that, as an HVAC company, they don't do plasterwork, but we would have appreciated a bit more thoughtfulness and care on the part of the workers to minimize the amount of touch-up work that would be required afterwards (Art himself tried to help us clean the walls) -- not to mention a quick vacuum or sweep of the dust left behind. It might be worth discussing your clean-up expectations up front with the workers so that they might take a bit more care to begin with. With that said, the four units are now installed and they are amazingly quiet and effective. Bring on the summer! (Or, for that matter, the winter -- they do heat, too.)

Excellent. Work was done in child day care center. Art worked on a time table that was convenient for us -- when the center was closed for a holiday. He and his crew came into the building without my being present and completed the work in record time. They were finished before the children returned to school after the holiday. They were punctual, professional, neat and clean and did excellent work.

I asked Toran to quote a ductless air conditioner for my living room because I was tired of lifting and installing heavy window units each season. Art quoted a reasonable price and I also checked out the product on the internet and found that I could get up to three zones with one outdoor unit. The three zone price was only about twice the single zone price so I was pleased to get most of my house air conditioned with at less than half the cost of central air. Art showed me how the system works. I was concerned that it might be noisy. It is remarkably quiet because the compressor is outside. The compressor is also quiet so neighbors will not even know its running. The hoses and cables do not go in the walls with this type of installation so there will be some very limited construction of soffits indoors and some minor repainting where plaster was penetrated. These services were not included in the price but are simple enough I will do them myself.

No problems. I'm saying price was excellent but didn't shop around. A year ago Art installed a high efficiency gas heating unit for us at a good price; excellent job.

Went well. Art responded to my call in a timely manner, showed up when he said he would and replaced the motor quickly. Also charged less than the original estimate.

I contacted Toran because they had such great reports on Angie’s list and I am surprised I had such a bad experience. I was told that my gas valve was defective and that the repair would be ~$700 (~$600 for the part + labor). I looked the part up on Grainger and found that it was closer to $150, not $600. I called Toran and asked them what their mark-up was but they did not have a good answer. This left a bad taste in my mouth so I called another heating company. It turns out that my gas valve is working fine. The problem was with the power supplied to the valve. The valve was not seeing power and was therefore not turning on. I had the gas furnace control board replaced for ~$350 and the furnace has been working perfectly for 1.5 weeks.

Art Toran originally came out and gave me an estimate in October. I got several other estimates and he was both the lowest and highest recommended on Angie's List. He came back witha contract, decided that the unit did not have to be as big as originally stated and reduced the price accordingly. He and his workers came on time, as promised. The worked quickly and with a minimum of disruption to our busy office. Best of all, they cleaned up!

In both instances, he (Art) and his workers were professional, courteous and thorough. He answerd the phone as early as 7:30 in the morning and made himself available at all times - extremely responsive. We are very pleased with Toran and will use them as our regular heating/ac vendor in the future. My husband is a developer and was extremely pleased with his work.

My furnace failed just before the new year holiday. I was scheduled to be away from home. Fortunatley, the weather was above freeing most of the time. Art Toran came out promptly after I called. I was interested in installing a high efficiency replacement boiler. Art pointed our all the pros and cons of that type of unit. He helped identify a plan for an apropriate exhaust location and condeate plumbing for a high efficiency unit. He priced out both a high efficiency unit and a unit of 82.5 percent efficiency. Based on price, I chose the more traditional boiler with the intent of investing the difference in other energy upgrades such as windows. The traditional uint was less than half the price of the high efficienicy unit. Toran acquired the new equipment quickly and installed the the boiler over a two day period. He closely supervised the entire project. His installers were polite and efficient. Art gave me advice on operatoin and maintenane of the new unit.

I called Toran at 8 am Sunday morning. Art showed up at about noon that Sunday, diagosed the problem and told me that he would get the necessary parts Monday morning. He was back at about noon on Monday, made the repairs and we have a functioning heating system. Art was prompt, efficient, and reliable. He then called two days later to make sure that everything was working satisfactorily. It was.

Install was quick and professional. Excellent work!!

I purchased the Big Deal to have my boiler inspected. I had booked the appointment so early in the year that Art showed up with the equipment to check the central A/C unit. I don't have central A/C, though. Art informed me that they don't usually check heating systems until after Labor Day. So instead of having the appointment go to waste, I inquired about having central A/C or split A/C units installed in the house. Art took measurements and said that he would give me an estimate for A/C. We also set up an appointment to have the boiler inspected at a later date. The following week, I received the A/C estimate and a month later, he came back for the boiler inspection. He cleaned out the boiler and tested it. Everything checked out well. So, for a total of $79, I got the boiler inspected and an estimate on installing central air! What a deal! Overall, Toran was available, prompt, courteous, and professional.

Mr. Toran replied to my request for an estimate the same day. He came out that same evening to take measurements and see what was needed for the job. I received a quote via email within a couple of days. The price was great and Mr. Toran didn't try to sell me into another system like some of the other vendors. The install went without a hitch. Mr. Toran and his team arrived early on a Wednesday morning and went right to work. Everyone was very professional and did a great job. All the units were in place that afternoon. The electrical was installed the following morning. Mr. Toran followed up later that afternoon and again two days later. While the ductless system was being installed, Mr. Toran even took out time to check out my furnace and give me some much needed instruction on the operation, care and maintenance of it. All in all, a great experience. I would use them again and refer to others in a heart beat. Hint, hint.

Prior to the work beginning Art explained to me what to expect. They came on the day promised. I was told ahead of time that it would take two days and it did. They removed all the old material. They were unintrusive and professional.

I purchased an Angie's List coupon for a heater inspection and tune-up. The owner was responsive to my initial contact and, after a bit of confusion, set and met a convenient time to come to our house. He arrived when scheduled and spent approximately 15 minutes cleaning and inspecting our heater. I wasn't there to interact with him, but I was a bit disappointed that he left after telling my wife only to make sure that we changed our filter monthly, but didn't offer any definitive "report" on what he saw in our furnace. I can only assume he didn't see any obvious issues, and the heater has continue to function fine since, but I would have appreciated more information.

Tora n was one of four companies to submit a quote for replacing my old oil boiler and removing the old space hog of a oil tank, Art took the time to come out (at the agreed time) to assess my heating needs during this summers brutal heat wave - could have blown me off but didn't, quickly and efficiently performed the necessary calculations to size up and recommend several natural gas boiler models that would meet our needs, after researching the pros and cons of each ( standard efficiency vs high efficiency) we decided on a Weil Maclain Gold series model. During Art's visit he recommended I have the chimney liner inspected to see what kind of shape it was in since oil and gas produce different types of exhaust byproducts which may not coexist well in an old or deteriorated chimney flue, well that was the right advise at the right time when the chimney guy removed the old stainless steel liner it was corroded badly with several holes throughout, So my advise to anyone converting from oil to gas do yourself and your family a favor have a pro inspect it thoroughly. Contacted Art after the new liner was installed to setup the furnace install date, we agreed on a date maybe a week later, his crew arrived on the first day on time and quietly and efficiently went about their business and the same went for the second day, when finished they made sure the basement was as they found it.

Very well. Art coordinated all the pieces from his end and worked well with the chimney contracter who was replacing the chimney liner. It took 2 days overall - the workers cleaned up very well after they finished.

Toran came out and gave us an estimate. We discussed what boiler would be the most efficient and the different options on brand and ventilation. They made sure to schedule us in immediately before the weather changed, and completed the job in about three days. They did a wonderful job, we are very happy that we used Toran and his recommendations were great.

We have a very old, solid stone house without central air. We wanted an air unit in the kitchen and in the bedroom. Toran came out and gave us an estimate and then recommended we go with a Mitsubishi split ductless air conditioner. They got back to us promptly with an estimate and put us on the schedule within the week to start the job. The work took one day. They were very professional and cleaned up well when they finished. Overall it was a good experience.

I had an air conditioner condenser and coil installation in my home. As a return customer with Toran Heating and Air Conditioning (had a gas furnace done last year) I knew I would get the same reliable service that I received on the first installation. His men work hard, are very neat, polite and cleaned up when they finished. Art is knowledgeable and experienced and I feel very confident that if I have any questions or concerns that he will be available to answer them. I highly recommend Art Toran and his company.

When Arthur came to check out the setup to give me an estimate, he insisted on taking his own measurements even though I had blueprints and had done an estimate of my own. His square footage was less. The crew included four men on the first day plus two more to handle removing the old unit, and three men on the second day. Arthur came both days and on the first day spent considerable time at the beginning. Since we have a dirt basement, it was a literally dirty job. And to get everything in and out, they either had to work it around a narrow stair landing and down stairs with little headroom, or hoist it through a high hatchway into the back yard. While the team didn't wear "company shirts" in a preppy way, in this case it was probably better since the job was in such messy surroundings. Everyone was on time, good-tempered, and polite, and when they took their breaks, they didn't leave any cigarette butts around. The price was very good. There was a small issue with one of the checks, but it was handled promptly and professionally. It took them about a day and a half.

I fully expected that a tune-up would involve everything that you read from other HVAC specialist websites - condenser coil cleaning, voltage readings, filter check, checking belts, oiling fan motors, etc... Instead, Art asked me if I had changed my filter - which I responded yes. He checked the refrigerant level outside and the pipes. When it came to doing anything with the unit itself in the basement, there was nothing done other than measuring the ducts to make sure they were of adequate size. There was no condenser coil cleaning. There was not even a cleaning or checking of the discharge pipe to make sure it was not clogged! When I explained the humidity level issue, again, he just assured me that there would be lots of water on the floor or on the unit if it was not draining properly. I mentioned that maybe the blower was set too high, which then resulted in him changing it to medium-low. I truly feel as though I wasted $79 and only received someone verifying that my refrigerant levels were good. Nice folks, but I feel jipped.
