Toran Heating & Air Conditioning

I contacted Toran Heating for an estimate on converting to gas heat. When I initially spoke to Art Toran, he said that he was unable to schedule an appointment for an estimate, and would call me back the next day. I didn't get a return call and proceeded to interview other contractors. He called back over a week later, and apologized for the delay, stating that his father had died. I told him I was about to settle on another contractor. He asked how much he was charging, and when told, said he could give me a better price. I made an appointment for an estimate. In the interim, I decided to read all of his company's reviews on Angie's List. While his work was uniformly described as outstanding, there were a number of instances where customers reported problems with scheduling, or stated that he did not show up on time. While I understand that a death in the family could throw off someone's schedule, this looked like a recurring pattern that I preferred to avoid. I canceled the estimate.

Very professional, very flexible in dates. Will be using again.

Called after hours because I had no heat from my steam boiler. Gave me a quick fix over the phone. I greatly appreciated the courtesy and will not hesitate to call them again. I highly recommend.

First I would like to express my gratitude for Angie's List in helping me find reputable companies to work with. I narrowed my options to a few companies and had various estimates given to me. Toran was the best choice for the cost factor. Fortunately in all other aspects involved for the installation they turned out to be the best choice all around. Art is an exceptional person to deal with as well as the installers. I am very happy and now warm. Art made certain that my new heater would be installed as soon as possible.He stopped by after all the work was completed to make sure everything was good. I am confident that I made the right choice.

Even though we did not provide he job to Art and his company the job he was extremely pleasant to deal with. Arrived when he said he would (even called while he was on his way). He was very thorough when doing the in home estimate. Professional and knowledgeable to a T. The only reason we did not go with Art was because another company was offering a special on boilers and was cheaper than all the estimates we got. If it wasn't for the special we would've awarded Art he job. His price was cheaper than most but tthe way he treated you is the way every company should treat their customers ( and I wasn't a customer yet)!

I spoke with them on the phone on 11/8/2012, and asked to set up an appointment, but they said they would have to get back to me the next week; however, I never received a return phone call. When I eventually contacted them myself, they were very apologetic, and came out the same day. They ended up fixing a loose connection at the thermostat level -- certainly something I couldn't have fixed myself -- and were fast and courteous. Would certainly recommend, despite the accidental scheduling snafu.

Returned home Sunday evening to a freezing house and unresponsive thermostat/boiler. Gave Art a call that night and he stopped by promptly the following day to check the system. This was after the hurricane and I was worried that some part of the system might have been stressed while I was gone. Art checked things out, re-lit the pilot light (as well as the one in the hot water heater), fixed the minor issue and gave me an overview of the system. Just in time for the coldest night of the year so far. I was once again delighted with the promptness, responsiveness, and professionalism of Toran Heating and AC. (See earlier review regarding new boiler installation).

Art had his crew into the basement and hooked up a new gas heater in no time. The guys even noticed that I had a leak in my water line coming into the house because they could hear the water running all day. So I got some plumbers in there to fix that too!

From the beginning, Art Toran was very accomodating. After checking out various contractors, we offered Toran the job. We told him that Wednesdaywould be good to do the job. Two days before we were supposed to have the job done, we needed to change the date to Friday, two days later. He had no problem and said that he will be out that morning. When they arrived Friday morning, the techs went right to work. While they worked, I asked questions and they were professional in answering them. There was no wasting time or fooling around. They finished their job, cleaned up and left.

He was very prompt in returning my calls.

Punctual and professional for an AC tuneup. I would use them again. They tried to sell me a service plan which I will consider in the future. For now, I feel secure that my AC tune up was done well.

All went as planned. Dealt with the quirks of our old ('27) house without fussing about it. Particularly pleased with the tidyness of their installation and the great cleanup job - they left the place neater than when they started. Their representative (Art) answered all my questions and was helpful throughout the job.

He was very prompt at stopping by to scope the job and very prompt at providing a very competitive bid for the project. The installation was scheduled in a timely manner and the schedule was maintained. His work crew was very polite, professional and courteous and they did a very high quality job installing the boiler. My thanks.

The front office was very nice and the service man were nice to my mom. She was waiting for them at the house, even tho I was the home owner they didn't try to talk her into getting something we didn't need.She said they were very nice and clean.

The experience was outstanding, especially since the entire process was explained in a manner which I could understand. The serviceman even went the extra mile to patch up a hole in the vent leading from the heater to the exterior of my home.

We have a contract with them so there was no charge. They were prompt, when right to work and were courteous of other people in the house. They did not make a lot of noise or leave a mess.

When scheduling, I my calls were returned promptly. Art arrived on time and was professional. He even replaced our air filter for us. Great experience and great discount when I mentioned I found them through Angie's List.

I can't really judge quality of the work since AC functioned okay prior to service. I got the price on a big deal coupon and it was very fair; but subsequently other coupons were available for $49. The F for responsiveness is for 8 phone calls to get Art to show up. I felt like I was chasing him and that he didn't really want the work, which wasn't exactly in his neighborhood but was no more than 20 to 25 min. drive from his place of business. If it weren't for the responsiveness issue, the professionalism grade would be higher. Art was friendly, polite, clean and conducted himself appropriately. I was surprised that I had to provide my own replacement air filter because in another house that was always included in the service. Art quoted me a fair price to replace an air duct in the system that had been damaged by the original installer. He said he could come back and get to it in about 2 weeks. It's now 7 weeks later and I haven't heard from him.

The Toran team showed up early in the morning. The work was completed by noon. It has been approximately one month since the work was completed and we just passed the massive heat spell of June / July 2012. The system functioned flawlessly.Great work, done in a timely fashion. Highly recommended.

Art Toran was very helpful in making recommendations, submitting a competitive bid and completing the work in an excellent fashion. This is rental property and Art worked well to accommodate the renters within their time constraints and finished the work on time. He communicated with me and the renters throughout the process and followed up afterwards to make sure that everything was working well both to my and my renter's satisfaction.

I bought two Big Deals for AC service from Toran in March, 2012 because when I called for service they told me I needed two Big Deals because I have dual zones. They also told me it wasn't hot enough yet to test the AC units and to call back in a month or two.OK, I thought, fair enough, even though I would have preferred to just make an appointment at that time, especially as I had already paid for the services. When I called back in May to make an appointment, they told me they were scheduling two weeks out, and they would call me a few days before to tell me which day they would come out. As I am not a stay at home housewife, and currently am working two jobs, I am not exactly flexible, so I told them I needed them to schedule a time, and I then I could schedule a day off. That was not to their liking and they brushed me off with, just call back the week you want us to come out. I called the week they said they were scheduling for (this is now my third call for the service I had paid for in March) and they tried (again) to brush me off with 'we're scheduling two weeks out' (which I guess could go on forever). I told them they had told me they could come out on that Friday and could they confirm that? The guy who took the call was like, 'is your AC working?" and I explained that I had paid for a service call (sheesh) and could they please come out since I had already paid for it? So, they did agreed to come out on the Friday and they were on time and were professional, although they did not bring a ladder to get on my roof to check the top AC unit. I had told them one unit was on the roof (accesible via roof deck) before they came, yet no ladder. The guy performed the services and said he would come back for the roof unit and he would call the following Monday when he was in the area and would stop by. I told him AGAIN that they have to schedule a specific time for me because I WORK. That was three weeks ago, and I haven't heard from them. I don't want to hear from them again, becasue this was not a GOOD deal, and they did not give me what I would call good service. I don't think I will be buying any Big Deals again, as I think it is a dis-incentive to pre-pay for service.

I originally had Arthur Toran out for an estimate a year prior to his doing the work. I chose at that time to risk my old boiler for one more heating season, but last fall I decided to bite the bullet. When I called, he looked up the old estimate and came out to look at and measure my place again in order to determine the proper type and capacity for the replacement. His evaluation and estimate were essentially unchanged from the previous year, the exception being a slight increase in the cost of the unit itself. I got one other estimate at about the same time. It was appreciably higher and included some additional equipment (that Arthur later explained was unnecessary). In the previous year, I had called two other heating people, one of whom recommended a less efficient boiler at a slightly higher price, and another who came out but never got back to me. Neither of these two bothered to take measurements. I chose to go with Arthur because his price was not unreasonable and because his manner was professional. The unit was installed over two days last fall. The workmen showed up on time, did not require my supervision at all (they locked up on both days since I had to leave), and left no trace, in terms or dirt or debris, of their having been there.

Arthur Toran showed up with his crew earlier. I was asleep so they started the work outside first. When I woke up they finished up the inside. The crew finished all the work in one day. They were ontime and efficient. In addition I got a $300 Angies List discount that made it even cheaper. I would hire them again and I highly recommend them.

Arthur Toran and his crew arrived and removed the crushed air conditioner that was destroyed by a wife chasing her husband. with the Angie's list discount of $300 they were well below the next lowest bid. They were on time efficient clean and very courteous as it took me an hour to get to the door I was sleeping. They did the work outside and waited for me to wake up. I let them in and they installed the condenser in the basement and finish the job that day. I was a builder for 30 years so I know what is professionalism and Arthur and his crew demonstrated that. thank you Arthur. I would recommend this company with highest regard.
