Terra-Sol Landscaping

The yard on our 1969 home was really overgrown and unmaintained when we moved in a little over a year ago. The yard has 3 tiers that were really just muddy slopes because there were no steps, paths or retaining walls to hold any of the soil in. I knew just from research and talking with other people that re-doing our entire yard could quickly and easily cost upwards of $20-30K. I called Dave after reading good reviews on Angie's list and he scheduled a time to come out on a Saturday so both my husband and I could be home. Dave really listened to what we were saying, offered suggestions for solutions along with pros and cons of different types of materials. I gave him our "if money wasn't an issue" wishlist, but told him I knew we probably wouldn't be able to do it all. As expected, the full design was more than we could afford, but Dave was really willing to work with us to prioritize and decide what elements to incorporate in order to get it down to our budget number. Throughout the design and bid process, Dave was very responsive and checking in with me to see if we had questions or had made any decisions. Two other companies (also well reviewed on Angie's list) didn't even follow up with me after their bid or acknowledge my email when I let them know I was still reviewing bids. Dave really went the extra mile with his professional design and responsiveness, as well as being very competitive with his bid, so it was really an easy decision to use Terra-Sol. They wanted to start a couple days early to take advantage of the good weather for grading. We had planned to do a little more demo ourselves, so starting early meant that Dave's crew had to do a little bit more demo than originally planned, but they took care of it no problem and didn't even charge more on our final bill. The crew was very pleasant and polite--just the kind of people you like to have working on your home. They took a little less than 4 days to complete the work, which was an amazing transformation in that short amount of time. I am really pleased with how the yard turned out and have received so many compliments from friends who knew what it looked like before. I would definitely call Dave if we need more landscaping work done in the future.

The job was scheduled within two or three weeks, and they kept to their schedule of completing it in three days. They brought in heavy equipment for the job, and they cleaned the walkways and driveway each night before leaving for the day. They had 2 or 3 employees on site most of the time, and up to 6 men for part of the work. They were polite and worked wtihout any issues or problems. Dave stopped by to check on the progress several times and kept in contact with the onsite crew chief. The outcome was fantastic and we've received many compliments from neighbors and passersby about what an improvement it is. This company was easy to work with and performed as promised.

The service by Terra Sol Landscaping was excellent. We had several bids and they were very reasonable. We thought the work was excellent. They gave us a discount for being an Angie's List member. He came and did the work and they were punctual and on time and he gave us a time frame and did the work within the time he gave. He made drawings when giving us the bid which other bidders didn't do. He was very professional.

I can't praise this firm highly enough. I interviewed a number of firms before selecting Terra Sol. Terra Sol stood out from the rest for their total professionalism and follow-through on every aspect of the job. David Zimmerman, who owns the firm, was extremely patient and thorough in describing every aspect of the work involved and drew up a wonderful landscaping plan that addressed a number of very difficult problems. TerraSol's staff was perfect: courteous, professional and very hard working. I could go on all day about this firm but suffice it to say that they are excellent in every respect. I strongly encourzge you to use them. You won't be disappointed.

David was prompt and courteous in coming to our house to look over the work that needed to be completed. He gave us a proposal and as the wrok went on it was deemed that new soil was not needed and he reworked the bill. His workers were prompt, conscientious, diligent and respectful. They made the yard look brand new. We were very happy with all thier work.

We received 3 bids before we found David at Terra-Sol. We had some drainage issues and a limited space available. One of the contractors wanted 50% four weeks up front and that is just not acceptable. He wanted make sure we were committed to the job. None of the three had a good solution for the drainage issue. When David dropped by our house spoke with confidence of a man with years of experience in landscape design. He gave suggestions on how we can fix the drainage issue and he gave us a drawing on how the finished product would look. He said he would not need payment until the job was completed and this gave more confidence that he could get the job done and done right. He gave us an approximate time for the start of job and actually was able to get it done a week sooner. When job was completed we had some minor issues with the job and he came by the very next day and fixed them to our complete satisfaction. To quote my wife it looks ?beautiful? . David is a professional and I would recommend him without any hesitation.

The work was completed on time and on budget. The crew was very professional and went out of their way to be accommodating. Overall a very positive experience. Would not hesitate to recommend Terra Sol.

Since we did not use them I have nothing to report.

David provided several ideas and drew up some excellent plans for our new back yard. What we especially apprecieted was that he listened to our ideas, and provided some more cost-effective alternatives. Upon removing the old concrete patio, David's crew found some significant drainage problems from work that was done long ago. They fixed broken / disconnected drainage lines under the old patio, and then continued on the agreed upon work. In the end, they surpassed our expectations, and we love our new back yard. David and his crew did a great job!

We requested bids from 6 well rated firms in May of 2012 for a $20K+ hardscape and landscape project in Happy Valley. I provided each firm a detailed specification including materials I thought would be used. David Zimmerman the CEO of Terra - Sol Landscaping, responded quickly and arranged a meeting the following week. I walked Dave through the job and he made several suggestions for improving the job and reducing the cost of the project (all of which were incorporated in the final job). I provided the same spec to each of the four firms which expressed an interest in the job and gave them two weeks to provide me with an itemized bid for the project. Dave was the first firm to respond and provided a very detailed estimate for the project including labor and materials to be used. Before we made our decision we reviewed four bids in detail. Dave's was not only the most complete bid, it was slightly lower than the next lowest bids. The bid prices ranged from a low of $20,000 to $27,000. We selected Dave's firm because they had an excellent reputation, we're well reviewed, showed a clear understanding of the jobs to be done, and their price was very competitive. We completed our review and signed a contract with Terra - Sol in early June. Dave indicated that the crew he wanted to work on our project would be tied up until mid to late July and that they would start our project at that time. As things worked out Dave's staff actually started the project several week earlier than expected. Throughout the project Dave, his office staff and field staff were all very pleasant to work with and very responsive to any questions or concerns we had. Their team worked quickly, did even more than originally asked, complete the job in a reasonable time and the quality of the work was exceptional. We couldn't say enough about how good Dave and his staff are to work with or about the quality of their work. The final touch was the job was completed earlier than expected and slightly under the estimated cost even though they had gone beyond the provided spec to do some additional work. .

I had this company out to provide a quote. I talked to their representative for about 20 minutes about the work we wanted done. He told me to go inside and he'd work up a quote and get back to me. A minute or two later I went back outside to ask him something and found him peeing against my house in the side yard. Yuck! He could have used our bathroom if he asked, but he didn't. There is also a public bathroom in the grocery store 5 minutes from my house, so there is no excuse for this behavior. My yard and more importantly, my newly painted house, is not an outhouse! Obviously we will not be hiring this company.

We contacted several firms via Angie's list and Dave was very responsive and creative in listening to our ideas and requests. He gave us good advice about what works in our environment and made a design for the area for maximum enjoyment and minimal maintenance. Once we gave the go ahead, the entire Terra Sol team were very quick and professional. They turned up on time, did the work and kept us informed as they progressed. Dave was there all along to supervise and ensure that things were moving according to plan. The team has worked together for over 20 years and it shows. We were extremely pleased with the results.

I have also hired them previously to re-landscape my front yard. He was very good and I would use him again.

Terra Sol is the kind of company you hope to find when looking for help without being an expert. This was probably not a very large job for Terra Sol, but David and Rea were prompt, friendly, professional, knowledgeable and reasonable. Their employees Fred and Maury were smart, hardworking, friendly and skilled. They took exceptional care of the existing landscaping and did a very thorough cleanup before leaving, including hosing down the walkways as well as the street in front of the house and around their truck. Prompt service, helpful advice, professional crew, reasonable pricing and great cleanup. I would not hesitate to work with Terra Sol for any future landscaping needs.

Outstanding. The owner of Terra Sol, Dave Zimmerman, was involved in every aspect of our project. He met with us to discuss our project, provided a detailed landscape drawing and plan, gave us the bid, and met with us a second time to review the project and make changes according to our requests. We also talked to him several times on the phone to figure out some details. The workmen were equally outstanding. They have been working for Dave for about 15 years. They worked hard, answered our questions, responded to our requests, made sure that the pavers and rocks were laid properly and according to the plan, and created a lovely patio and rock walls. Dave checked in on the project in person every day. Despite the particularly cold and rainy week, the project was finished in eight days. They cleaned up everything after the work was done. Even after the project was finished, we wanted to make some changes in the shrubs. Even though these were minor changes, Dave sent two of his crew on the same day to change out the plants. I wholeheartedly recommend Terra Sol.

They were easy to work with and very nice. I would recommend them even though I didn't use them. The situation is, the company that we chose, he's more all inclusive. We just want simple.

Excellent experience. At our first meeting, I walked through what we were looking for and produced a sketch that I had done. He asked several questions about what we wanted to do with the space and then made recommendations on how to improve my ideas. Things I liked about TerraSol: 1. Dave produced a to-scale design without expecting us engage his firm. This was a refreshing difference from several of the other companies I contacted. It accommodated our wishes in an aesthetically pleasing way. 2. Once we agreed to move forward, we were constantly kept informed of what was going on -- as it was around the Christmas holidays, we could have easily lost touch. Dave was excellent about keeping us informed about timelines, what was happening next, when he would be by, etc. 3. The work was done in a professional and high-quality manner. 4. Dave explained everything, and was very transparent about pricing.

Took a long time to pick a landscaper. First one's price was too high and their quote did not match my requests. Second one was very personal and took notes, then never delivered quote. Third one delivered a quote but it was vague and they did not respond to questions. Fourth one the quote was high, and did not match my requests, their response was my budget was too low so I admitted my highest figure, and his final quote was 2 dollars less. Finally decided to go to Tera Sol and we worked out a plan and quote that was $3k less than the fourth landscaper. Included in Dave's quote was a deck that cost $500 to $1000 less than two other quotes I received from deck companies. My recommendation for backyard jobs is to get the work done in February to April, before the landscapers get crazy busy in the summer. i started the process in May but did not get the job done until late August. That means start the quote process in February or March. I did not contact Tera Sol until July and by then they had firm schedules for several jobs throughout the summer. The job took about 6 working days, with 2 to 4 crew per day. Dave's workers are immensely courteous, and never left a mess. The team that did the flagstone bench was subcontracted out and they did first class work. Dave knows who to go to when jobs call for more than general landscaping. The job involved lots of rock cutting, and the crew took time to spray the rock dust off the grape arbor at the end of each day, which was a nice gesture. The flagstone I decided to go with was from Montana, and took some effort to locate. It matched my color expectations but some oxidation rust color appears that I did not expect. I was out the day the flagstone step from the house was built, and so was unable to influence its shape. it was larger than the drawing, and reduced the remainder area for table and chairs. Dave offered to change its size but suggested I delay the decision for a month to be sure. I decided to leave it alone for now, its a nice seating area for the 1 and 3 year old. The important thing is that if the drawings are not detailed, and I doubt many are, then you need to monitor the shape of curves, the placement of stepping stones, and other small changes to go the way you like. I will go to Tera Sol again if I need additional work in the future. We love our backyard and have Dave and his team to thank for it.

Dave's crew was in and out within a week. He had to level and build levels as well as put considerable time and effort into the artistic design of the garden. They made sure everything was to my satisfaction and cleaned up thoroughly afterwards. He also did a wonderful job with the outdoor lighting design.

Of the 4 consultations/estimates we recieved Dave (the owner) was by far the most thorough and professional and from the start clearly the person we were going to use regardless of price. Then, to my extreme surprise, his bid included roughly twice the work proposed by any of the other three at only about 10% higher cost. Dave was present at the start of each work day and thoroughly reviewed what had been done the prior day and the plan for the current day. His crew was incredbly curteous and went out of their way to be polite and professional. The work was completed ahead of schedule and more than met expectations. We would absolutely recomend them to any and everyone.

I kept walking up and down the pathway saying "I love this path! I am so happy with this path!" The irrigation system is finally just as it should be."

I use them off and on all of the time for various jobs. I like the guy that runs it and they have done really well.

We are VERY happy with the results! With any large project, complications or questions do occur and the owner of Terra Sol (Dave) was very responsive to any issue that came up. Dave often solved the issue or answered the question that very day. His crew was very hardworking and professional. I obtained other bids before starting the project and his was comparable. The project was completed in the time he stated. The curb appeal of our home is greatly improved. I would recommend Terra Sol to anyone!

Fantastic experience from start to finish. David came over to view our yard and talk to us about what we were looking for. He gave us some general thoughts about ideas he had to get our reaction and a sense of what we were looking for. He came back to sit down with us and show us a sketch of his plan and get feedback. It was a great plan, we had just 1 or 2 small adjustments. Then he sent us a detailed estimate. The price was reasonable and compared well to other people we talked to. We had a few questions on variations and he gave us differential pricing. Once we had the plan we wanted we sent the signed contract and he told us they would come in 2-3 weeks. They came exactly as scheduled. David arrived the first morning to explain a couple things. The on-site crew, led by Fred, was great. They were efficient, friendly, and careful. They did most of the demo on the first day in the rain. They saved a couple nice things, like bulbs, amid all the destruction. Two other guys came the next morning with bigger machinery to complete the demo. That afternoon, Fred and team began work on the new pieces. At the end of the fourth day, they were completely done. They cleaned up everything, and everything looks great.

On time, pleasant to work with and cleaned up the work site each day when the work was done. Did such a good cleaning up job, could not even tell work had been done when finished. The work was excellent! Would not hesitate to use Terra-Sol in the future and would highly recommend to anyone else considering using their service. Dave Zimmerman is wonderful to work with!
