I liked John a lot. He has a strong sense of integrity and high standards. Everything we discussed along the way he would send me in writing to confirm before doing, with solid price information. He would email regular updates, and checked in every day, doing some of the work himself. John at times had higher standards than I did. For example, when our laundry room work required tracking plumbing into the basement, he insisted on repairing the drywall where they did the basement work. The drywall was already a mess down there from a flooding problem we had several years ago so he actually left it better than it was with no additional charge. When putting new marmoleum on the small pantry area that was the former laundry room, he felt the subfloor was not in good enough shape and laid new plywood down. I can't remember for sure but he either didn't charge us additional or we agreed upon a very small amount for supplies and he did not add in labor. Also, even though our projects were smaller in the scheme of things, he spent a lot of time on the details including stain matching. When original wood trim did not quite come in the right color, he insisted on doing it over without me having to say anything. We also went through many samples to match our grout coloring just right in the kitchen. Our home is a beautiful old craftsman style with a lot of detail, so we very much appreciated his efforts to get even the small things right. The work did take longer than anticipated, but John was in regular communication and I understood the reasons. Since the projects were not disruptive to our everyday it was not a problem. His people were very friendly and respectful, being careful with shoe removal, creating clean work areas, and cleaning up at the end of each day. In another example of John's style - in our kitchen area we have these unique imprinted tiles running along the edge of the counter. They were not properly installed by the previous owner and some have fallen off. John's people re-installed the fallen ones while doing there work and noticed one was missing. During the project and in the time since, John has looked at every local tiler for the tile. Months after completing the project he finally found it and bought us the length of tile we were missing as a thank you for a referral we gave him. He even offered to come in and install it. He also sent the supplier and product info in case we need to source the tile again in the future. The tile price was probably small, but the effort and thoughtfulness were not. Overall, I recommend the company highly.
Description of Work: We had a number of smaller projects to complete. The original project was to do two areas. First, we removed a smaller non-structural wall to open up an upstairs hallway and built in a bench and bookcases for a beautiful window seat. We also painted, changed some heating ductwork to heat a new room that was a covered balcony we previously enclosed with windows, and did some minor carpet repair to accommodate the wall removal. Second, we lowered a pass through counter from our kitchen to our family room that is in a structural wall and had previously been set to high to be of good use. This project involved a lot of work on wood trim matching, tiling and grout matching to make it seam-less with the rest of the kitchen. Since we liked John's work and team, we also had them complete another project relocating our laundry room to a large closet space within the house. This involved plumbing and electrical, marmoleum flooring installation, drywall repair, and building of a counter with a marmoleum top.

Contacted John to come out and provide a bid. Once determined the potential extent of the damages, negotiated on price. Satisfied with the price. Work was started when planned, crew was respectful and courteous not only to me but the neighbors they came in contact with. Any issues that were brought up were handled immediately. Crew left the area clean. When work was finished, John came out personally twice to make sure that the work done was to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: 2 sky lights installs, replaced the sub floor that was completely dry rot for dining room floor and the wall on the outside by the deck.

The project went great with him giving ideas on what to do with my mess of a self started improvement project. I jumped into redoing some drywall in said illegal addition and quickly found out the framing, or lack thereof was totally improper. John came out and came up with some great ideas and left me with a great covered patio for half the price I could have done anything else!
Description of Work: John converted an old illegal addition into a beautiful covered patio.

We had a small window of opportunity to extend our back yard by removing a rock barrier and replace it with a retaining wall. Problem was, the access to the work site is via a neighbor's property and we had very short notice and a very short period of time in which the work could be done, during which time we would be on vacation. We engaged Fouch B&R (whom we had used before), talked through what we were looking for, and when we returned it was done! Amazing. We were very happy with the result.
Description of Work: Fouch B&R extended our back yard to the property line by removing a boulder/rock retaining structure, constructing a retaining wall, putting drainage in place, in-filling with sand and soil, moving the sprinkler system, and finishing the job with new top-soil and sod.

We were provided with a printed schedule at the onset, and communication was excellent, with updates almost daily. John always returns phone calls and emails ? usually right away. Changes were handled graciously, and any loose ends were promptly attended to. The job ended on budget and on time.
Description of Work: We had Fouch Building & Remodeling build out a kitchen remodel which included opening a wall between the dining room and kitchen and creating an archway there that echoed the existing archway between the living room and dining room. This required putting a beam into the wall above the opening and then recreating the ceiling cove in the dining room. A new soffit was built in the kitchen, and new counters and framing for cabinets, sink, and stove. The kitchen got updated electrical power as we relocated the appliances and changed the configuration of the kitchen to gain additional counter and cabinet space. Drywall, Marmoleum sheet flooring, laminate counters and tile backsplash were all handled by Fouch. For our part, we did most of the demo, assembled and installed the Ikea cabinets, and did all the painting. We had our own plumber we had worked with before and wanted to use him again. Fouch was willing to work and coordinate with us.

The jobs both went great. The upstairs remodel transformed our upstairs into a much better space and it looks beautiful. John and his crew were always professional, thorough, and courteous. The job came in close to budget and on time. Any changes to the budget were discussed and documented. John took our loose ideas for a design and perfected it into a functional space. He is receptive to ideas and easy to work with. I would recommend him with no hesitation. I look forward to working with him in the future.
Description of Work: In our 1911 residence, an upstairs remodel including: demolition of chimney and existing walls, designing floor plan, installing new bathroom with new plumbing, including tiled shower and claw foot tub. New windows, new skylight, floor refinishing. Also installing new counter top in kitchen. In a rental house we bought after the above job: excavating and pouring new basement floor, installing new windows and door with ramp to door.

John and his crew did an excellent job on our house. They were always professional and very respectful of us as well as our neighbors. Since we were removing siding that had been on the house for over 40 years, we didn't actually know what we would find underneath the siding. John worked with us to come up with several options to pursue after the siding was removed and was flexible in helping us choose which option would be best. The preparation for the paint was excellent. The boards are smooth and our old house actually looks new. We love the paint job. John transformed the house from a tired old place remodeled in the 70's to a stunning Arts and Crafts house. The workmanship on the front porch railings is exceptional and gives the house a true craftsman look. After removing the boards on the back deck, John discovered that the deck was sagging. He quickly informed us and came up with a plan to fix it that didn't break the budget. The back deck now looks beautiful. The workmanship on the railings is beautiful. After the windows were installed inside the house, John's crew spackled and repainted the trim around the windows. We were pleasantly surprised by this and very appreciative. The new cedar fencing was installed quickly with minimal disruption to our neighbor whose fence we share. The gates work very well. The slope of the land around the house was considered and worked around nicely. John's crew always worked very hard and did excellent work. They always went above and beyond what was expected of them even helping me to store a heavy delivery I received into the basement. They also did a fantastic job of cleaning up after the job was finished. John was very accommodating with all of our change orders. He kept very careful financial records and we were happy to discover we could trust him to keep the finances straightforward and easy to understand. We are extremely pleased with the work John did for us and we will definitely use him for future projects and will recommend him to our friends and colleagues. This was the best remodeling experience we've had.
Description of Work: Removed old aluminum siding from our house, restored moldings around all windows, prepared house for painting, painted house, installed 9 new windows, rebuilt railing for front stairs, rebuilt railing around front porch, rebuilt back deck, built pony wall in basement, cemented over awful spaces of dirt in basement, installed lighting in basement and outside of house, replaced cedar fencing on both sides of house.

This was our first home build (we've used them before for remodeling work) and the experience with Fouch Building and Remodeling was awesome. Owner John Fouch is an unusually communicative and articulate contractor who did a great job setting expectations and keeping us in the loop of progress - he actually calls back promptly! Both the city inspectors and other subcontractors commented on the high quality of the work that was done and he commanded a lot of respect from his subcontractors as well. He did a great job working with us to meet the green requirements of the certification we were aiming for. The very few, typical issues or mistakes that came up were promptly fixed to the highest quality. Their pricing is also extremely reasonable. He built another high-end home for another friend of ours who were also very happy with him and has done remodeling work for lots of our friends and family.
Description of Work: They helped us build a new, green earth advantage home in the Mississippi neighborhood in 2007.
